Harlem Globetrotters Open First-Ever Pop Up Retail Location As Part of American Dream Residency

The Harlem Globetrotters today announced the launch of their first-ever brick and mortar retail location, a pop up store at American Dream in East Rutherford, New Jersey to coincide with the organizations historic residency in the state-of-the art entertainment center. The store will officially open on Friday August 9, and will be open through the Globetrotters residency, which begin Friday August 16 and goes through August 25.

The store will showcase historic memorabilia and pictures featuring moments over the decades whilst offering fans the opportunity to purchase uniform replica collections and basketballs from both our past through to our present, a range of apparel items for kids & adults, accessories synonymous with the iconic brand as well as some special, limited edition items including autographed basketballs and other items. It will be located on the first floor adjacent to the court, which is being installed by American Dream’s hockey rink. In addition to the memorabilia and traditional items, the store will also showcase a limited edition tee shirt designed by their own Maxwell ‘Hops’ Pearce, a Globies veteran, world record holder and native of Tuckahoe, NY and SUNY-Purchase College.

“This retail location is another key move to expand the reach of the Globetrotters brand as we head towards our centennial in 2026,” said Keith Dawkins, President, Harlem Globetrotters and Herschend Entertainment Studios. “The first-ever residency of a sports organization continues to open new doors for us to engage with fans and widen the footprint of every aspect of our business, be it clinics and games, the first live broadcast in over 35 years (August 18 on Gray Television), or retail partnerships. We are setting a new standard for our business that will bring global opportunities well into the future.”

The Globetrotters will be playing daily during the residency as well as hosting clinics and other special events. One of the highlights of the stay will be the first broadcast in over 35 years, produced by Gray TV’s Raycom Sports, a national leader in sports production and syndication with deep roots in college basketball, football, and pro sports. That game will be broadcast live on Sunday night August 18 at 7:00 PM.

Tim Brando is an American sportscaster with Fox Sports. Formerly with Raycom Sports, ESPN and SiriusXM, Brando has primarily covered NCAA football, basketball and the NBA. Along with radio duties, Brando has also served as a studio host for games, a play-by-play announcer, and halftime host.

This is a font called DOCTOR BOB, and is used in many logo designs.'

From what I also read in the past the specific tattoo parlour JK had those tattoos done in used this font a lot.

You are aware of the fact that he could have just used this font because he saw it in different pretty known logos and in the tattoo parlour and just thought it was pretty anon, aren't you?

A few months ago, something happened that changed my life for the best, it was something that I had dreamt about since I was a little.

I was 13 years old when I was adopted by the Besson's, I can still remember the day, as if it happened yesterday.

I was sitting on my bed, reading a teen vogue magazine.

"Yo!" I look up and see Charlie, staring at me from the door, "there's someone downstairs for you." I frown but walk downstairs anyway, hoping that there was actually someone there for me.

When I walk in, I see miss Harrison, sitting opposite a couple, a woman who was wearing a floral dress, and a man in a suit. 

"There you are! I would like you to meet Saskia and Ray Besson." Miss Harrison says.

"Hi?" I say to them as they both wave at me with a smile on their faces.

"The Besson's, have come here today, to take you home with them." I look at miss Harrison with confusion. "They're adopting you."

I feel the tears that threaten to fall. I run to the couple and hug them with all my might.

A few weeks later I was finally settled into my new home. It was a really nice house, but I couldn't help but notice all the pictures of a boy, scattered along the walls.

"Saskia?" I call, she walks up to join me, in the living room.

"Yes dear?"

"Who is this boy?" I point to a picture of the boy on one of the tables in the living room.

"Ray? Can you come here please." She calls out. Raycomes into the room a few seconds later.

"I think we should sit down to have this talk." She leads me to a couch, as her and Ray sit on the opposite one.

"That boy in the pictures, is our son." She says with a wobbly voice.

"I haven't met him though?"

"We know you haven't met him dear, unfortunately he died a while ago, so I'm afraid you won't be able to meet him." Ray says.

"What was his name?"

"Corbyn." She mutters, almost fully sobbing at this point. I walk over to one of the pictures and pick it up.

"Hi Corbyn, I'm your sibling now I guess." I smile at the boy in the picture.

I watch my new parents, as they shed tears over the interaction between Corbyn and I.

Since I've been at college for about two months, I haven't been home as much, of course I still write to my parents, but it's been a while since I've seen them and Corbyn.

Yes I know he’s is dead, but ever since they adopted me, I felt like he was somehow with us, I always made an effort to say hello to one of Corbyn's pictures, just to make it seem like we could've been best friends.

I quickly retrieve my bag from the trunk of my car and hurry to the door, ready to surprise my parents. I decide to leave my bag outside, and fetch it after I surprise them.

I open the door swiftly and shout, "guess who's back!"

I turn and see them standing in the living room, with a girl and a boy, standing opposite them.

"I'm sorry? Am I interrupting?" I say quickly.

"Ava, this is our other child, we adopted a few years after Corbyns's passing." I smile at my mom and give her a kiss on the cheek, before I walk up to the girl - Ava - and give her a hug. When I finish hugging her, I walk over to the boy and hold my hand out for a handshake, not knowing how comfortable he was with hugging. He looks at me like I'm crazy, as I reach my hand out.

"What are you doing dear?" Mom asks.

I look at her, she looks completely shocked. I instantly think I've done something disrespectful, so I put my hand down.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know that he wasn't okay with that, I'll just head off to the kitchen and leave you all alone." I walk past the boy and look at Corbyn's picture.

"Hey Bean." I smile at the picture and make my way to the kitchen, making myself a cup of tea.

A few minutes later mom and dad walk into the kitchen, they look quite upset, I decide to give them some privacy, so I head upstairs to my room, after I fetch my bag from outside.

I put my bag on my bed, and unzip it.

"You can see me?" I instantly turn around in fear and shock at the voice. I see the boy from the living room standing there.

"I'm sorry?"

"You, you, you can see me. Why can you see me!" He shouts.

"Calm yourself down dude, I'm sorry if I offended you, but that doesn't mean you can just come up here and yell at me."

"You didn't offend me, I'm just confused."

"Confused about what?" I am purely shocked at this guys audacity right now.

"Don't you recognize me?" He says with a hopeful voice.

I take time to look at him closely, I do recognize him from somewhere, but I don't know from where.

Suddenly it hits me. I can feel myself start to shake, as I exit my room, and grab a picture from the wall outside my room. I hold up the frame, and stare at it as the boy walks out my room.

"Corbyn?" I am completely shocked right now.

"That's me." He smiles.

"I thought you were dead."

"I am, I'm a ghost."

"Why were you so shocked that I can see you?"

"Nobody else can see me, that girl that was with me, Ava, she's the only one who can see me, but now you can too."

After 9 years of pretending I have a brother, I finally have one, in the physical sense. I can't stop myself when I walk up to him and hug him. It's like all the feelings well up in me, all at once. He hesitates as he wraps his arms around me. But in the end we stand there for a few minutes, soaking in each others presence.

REALSCREEN 2019 New Orleans Keep  THE 9th ward residents OUT!      (part 1)

I was SUPER EXCITED!  about the REALSCREEN Summit 2019 when It came to my home town New Orleans Louisiana January of this year. As you Know REALSCREEN summit is a place where if you are in the film business even if you make short films you should attend because it’s a film makers networking PARADISE! You have folks from HBO WE tv SHOWTIME DISCOVERY VIACOM A&E NBC RAYCOM FOX myTV ABC NBC sports TEGNA AP BLUE ANT BET MTV EXTREM REACH SCIENCE CHANNEL E!  OWN FOOD CHANNEL  and  many more.

I went with the hopes of meeting folks who can help me get distribution for my documentary film FEAR NO GUMBO. FEAR NO GUMBO is a documentary about the recovery of the LOWER 9TH WARD (or lack there of) which is a 98% African American COMMUNITY 86% HOME OWNER community which wasn’t given a fair opportunity to recovery from HURRICANE KATRINA and RITA 2005. Fear No Gumbo is structured as a tour through the 9th Ward through my eyes, questioning and sometimes confronting the “culture vultures” who have swooped into the neighborhood, alongside examples of corruption and systemic racism that still victimizes the residents that returned after Katrina. 

I remember arriving at the REALSCREEN summit excited and super confident that I’ll find someone to listen to my pitch or just friend someone who will be willing to just see 5 mins of my film and give me a contact to follow up with. Up the escalator I go with my name tag on I’m feeling good because my picture is on the tag I’m expecting to for fill my mission, when I get to the Discovery Delegates Lounge which is the 2nd floor as I arrive  at the top of the escalator I hear this women who I later found out her name was CAROL LEIGHTON

I looked up because my head was down looking at my Delegate handbook trying to figure out where do I go to network. I looked up and she approached me and grabed my name tag and asked me 

CAROL LEIGHTON: DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING?

 Kim Roberts: I then said yes

CAROL LEIGHTON: ARE YOU SUPPOSE TO BE HERE?

Kim Robert: I said yes

CAROL LEIGHTON: ARE YOU SURE YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO BE HERE?

Kim Roberts: I SAID YES  and walked away 

CAROL LEIGHTON: ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT? DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING?

I didn’t respond only THOUGHT TO MYSELF this bitch tripping! and I went on with my day, I had a mission to meet some help me get my film out into the main steam media.

Later that same night I remember being at the cocktail party minding my own business enjoying the LIVE MUSIC having a glass of WINE. I then was approached by a women who came up to me and grabbed my name tag which had my name and picture on it and asked me what was I doing here?  Me not knowing she was the ladies from earlier CAROL LEIGHTON I said with a smile my name is Kim Roberts I’m a documentary film maker, my first film was Trouble the water which was A Hurricane Katrina Documentary WON THE SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL AND WAS ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATED FOR BEST DOCUMENTARY. I then stated that I was there looking to meet folks who can assist me with my new film titled FEAR NO GUMBO which is the follow up film to Trouble the water.  Carol then looked at me and said I’m so sorry!  I then begin to look puzzled and said for what? 

CAROL LEIGHTON: It was me who stoped you on the 2nd floor and asked you where were you going? 

I then looked down at her name tag and realized at that point she was just a festival goer like me because her tag didn’t say security or staff it had her name and production company name on it.

CAROL LEIGHTON: ALL I SAW WAS YOUR JACKET THAT SAID 9TH WARD (mind you it was a suit jacket with 9th ward on the back)  and when I saw that on the back of your jacket all I knew at that point was  I HAVE TO KEEP YOU  I mean KEEP THOSE PEOPLE OUT OF HERE WE CAN’T have the 9th ward in here!  

Kim Roberts: what do you mean keep you people out? you don’t even know me you are pre judging me you are stero typing me! do you know anything about the 9th ward? 

CAROL LEIGHTON: NO I’m from Canada

Kim Roberts: Well you Should go and visit before you leave New Orleans. Did you know that there’s a section in the 9th ward called the By Water which is mostly WHITE neighborhood but have many well to do African Americans that live there also.Did you know that HOLY CROSS which is in the lower 9th ward is a mostly WHITE section within the 9th ward and there are very many well to do African Americans  that live in that part of the 9th ward too. Also the lower 9th ward was WAS THE HARDEST HIT COMMUNITY DURING HURRICANE KATRINA and was 98% African Americans 88% home owners before Hurricane Katrina hit that community in 2005.  What I’m telling you is what my film TROUBLE THE WATER was about you should learn about the 9th ward because apparently you don’t have a clue.  Carol just stood there with her mouth open.

Kim Roberts: If I WAS WHITE and had a 9th ward jacket on would you have stopped me then?

CAROL LEIGHTON: I didn’t know if you were white or black I saw you from the back I just saw that 9th ward was on the back of your jacket and stopped you!

Kim Roberts:  I’m black from that back from the side from that top, there is no getting around me looking black.

CAROL LEIGHTON: Well I’m from Canada and we don’t see color.

Kim Roberts: Well I can’t tell excuse me!  this conversation is over with! 

I then walked off feeling like this white bitch is crazy and she might be stalking me I also felt like it was time for me to go because then felt distracted  and unwanted  there.  I hung around for a few more mins hesitating to try to network because everywhere I went she was near by and I didn’t know if THE FOLKS THERE  thought the same as CAROL LEIGHTON did about me so I left the cocktail party and went down to the hotel lobby.

Up on arriving I saw 1 of only like  20 African Americans in the whole summit a young lady name Tiffany Nicholson I spoke with her earlier that evening and we exchanged contacts. I sat down next to here and explained to her what had just happened to me up stairs at the cocktail party and explained that I was feeling outta place  and a  bit sad because of the things CAROL had said to me. I also asked if she knew how to get in touch with any of the managers or supervisors so I can report that one of the festival goers is stalking me and following me saying racists things to me.

Her first words were WOW REALLY! i can’t believe that happen to you I’m so sorry that happen that shouldn't’ have happen, who was it that treated you that way? 

Kim Roberts: I don’t know her all I know is that her name is Carol.

Tiffany Nicholson: do she work fro the company?

Kim Roberts: I don’t think so her tag had a production company name on it so she looked like she was here for the summit.

Tiffany then pulled out her phone and pulled up the summit app she then asked  when she  pulled up CAROL LEIGHTON picture was that her?

Kim Roberts: Yes that’s her right there! I then said how did you get that app with everyone info and picture in it.

Tiffany Nicholson: When you registered for the summit they should have gave you a link to download that app you and your production company should be on this too.

Kim Roberts: I did get the email but it’s not giving me access to the network.

Tiffany Nicholson: Email them and let them know you are not able to gain access to REALSCREEN summit app. Also I know the folks that run this summit I’ll reach out to them and let them know what happen to you and give them your contact, someone will be getting in touch with you about this because this shouldn’t have happen to you. I then thanked her and walked over to the bar to get a glass of wine.  The line was long to order a drink so I just stood by the doors and talked to my husband  on the phone as I waited for valet parking to bring my vehicle.  As i was waiting I noticed that a tall white male was standing near me almost standing over my shoulder watching me.When I looked up he looked down as if he was looking at his phone.I begin to wonder why in the hell is he watching me that way. I know I’m beautiful and all that good stuff but he was watching me in a way that felt creepy! so I went and waited in the cold for my vehicle.  As I waited I was joking with the Valet Parking workers and looked to my left.....Guess who’s standing there.....CAROL LEIGHTON! Looking me and what I was doing....I said to myself this white lady gotta be following me. Shortly after my truck pulled up I proceeded to give the worker a tip and get into my truck. 

CAROL LEIGHTON ASKED OOH CAN i RIDE WITH YOU? I then responded you is NO! and I pulled off and went home.

Soon as I got home I said to my husband and daughter who is 11years old GUSS WHAT HAPPEN TO ME?  I then explained to them the whole experience of me getting followed and watched and being told because of the 9th ward on my jacket I was to be kept out of the summit. The first thing my daughter said was momma they were discriminating against you.When she said that my eyes filled up with tears I then said I was not going to let that slide because I have the right to be there I paid my money just like everyone else? I then said I was going to go back tomorrow and report this to a supervisor or someone with authority  just so they could know that a  crazy lady is harassing me.
