Only good part about this is that it proves that some important RBR leadership were willing to trust Daniel in that seat and he’s a viable option. During crunch time, too. We move. I just hope Daniel’s doing well with this. I was hoping he was told nothing but obviously he was and that makes me saddest. As a fan, it’s whatever but for him it must feel so much more crushing. He’s got this though. “In life things can't always go well... but they can't always go bad either, keep going” 🙏🤪
call me crazy but i actually haven't been that sad about it? maybe it's just because i've been so busy and out of touch for so much of the past few days that i haven't had the time to be sad idk. but ultimately, a) until we fully see checo in the car in zandvoort, i don't think it's over. we've seen them do this before, where they say one thing at the start of summer break but come race day, it's a whole different situation......who knows what might happen by then. b) even if the swap DOESN'T happen now, i fully believe that 2025 is still on. it's beyond on. cause even if they've somehow justified keeping him on thru the end of the year, it's unfathomable to me that they'd justify another year of this shit when there are so many swaps set to happen and other teams potentially only getting stronger next year.
and as far as the daniel of it all goes, i'm sure some part of him IS blindsided and disappointed (if it is true, of course), but at the same time, we've seen time and time again how he's able to pick himself up and come into each race weekend fresh, so i'm more than confident that he'll be able to pick himself up after this. and honestly not just pick himself up, but use it to light a fire under his ass for the second half of the season that has him so fucking undeniable that rbr won't have any choice BUT to promote him for next year.

I’m honestly not sure how we’re supposed to be normal about Sebastian putting on a RBR race suit again. Like, Christian is getting BOTH his prodigal sons back home.
All the three golden boys will be under the same roof again!
And all the SebastiDan content!!

i guess it kind of makes sense now why Daniel would be open to going back there even if he has said he doesn’t want to be racing for a backmarker. And why, despite everybody and their mother going on about how he’ll be denying the chance to an rb junior, helmut and co are considering him for the seat because only an experienced driver can help them make that transition to a better performing team

I cannot believe RBR has come so full circle that Dan is coming back to replace De Vries at AlphaTauri.
RBR never cease to fuck over their drivers. I feel bad for Nyck.

According to this article (I used google translate) Daniel knew, as he had been told prior, and that he didn't take it well. Well informed journalists did too. They just haven't announced it as it is not yet official due to contract, clauses and sponsporship issues that need to be sorted.

"It actually starts a few days before the Grand Prix. Ralf Schumacher finally tells Sky what the better informed Formula 1 journalists have known for a while: Singapore will be Daniel Ricciardo's last race. Red Bull wants to rely on junior Liam Lawson from Austin onwards".
"There will be no loopholes this time, such as a return to second place as reserve driver, and according to information from Motorsport-Total.com , Ricciardo has been released. A corresponding press release is expected later this week, but not on Monday, so that the weekend's game of hide-and-seek does not look quite as ridiculous as it ultimately was".
"Behind closed doors, it is said in the paddock, Ricciardo did not initially take the decision so well and was understandably angry. But a certain form of acceptance has now set in".
Ngl I'm feeling for the guy
