Thinking about how out of all rc routes with immortals/deities, it's only Cain's that emphasizes his immortality and otherworldness so much.

When Lane meets him, she's instantly mesmerized by the perfection of his appearance and his aura/charisma while Cain is mostly bored and indifferent to her. He even goes as far as seducing and driving her mad in the church in 1x03, acting like "a child breaking a toy, eager to see what's inside". It's only after Lane proves her competency at deciphering the Book (and not only she's competent, she's actually better than him), he recognizes her worth and offers her alliance ("I understand you and the squad doesn't" — there's so much to this phrase now, huh). And their deal doesn't make Cain Lane's pet guardian angel. In fact, he accidentally drops her during their first flight together. And this makes Lane see very clear she can't trust him. And yet she longs for someone to trust, to rely on, she reaches out for Cain because he's a blind spot but there's something about him that makes her feel alive (she doesn't know yet. Will she ever find out?). She's scared of developing feelings for an immortal because she sees that this will get her hurt ("I wanted to get to know her better, but, to be honest, I shouldn't have") and at the same time she begs him not to disappear in her thoughts. She wants him to be kind but selfishly, be kind only to her. When Lane tries to get through to Cain when he's in his Seraph form, it's her body that remembers fear he evoked in her. And there's no miraculous awakening in the end — she's almost got killed by him.

Cain and my safety are two contradicting things, Lane thinks bitterly in 2x01 and yet on that roof she feels she should be next to Cain. When Cain touches her thighs after they land, it seems he tests both his and her sensations; but on that roof he doesn't caress Lane, he studies a human being, just one of her kind, a thing to dissect.

There's this constant ambiguity of reaching out and stepping back between then but divinity is inhuman. and we're yet to find out will it be enough for Cain and Lane even if something is missing

Going against all my initial expectations, Heaven's Secret Requiem really surprised me positively!!! And I don't even like horror, but the MC's scene with Dimitri in the tunnels was very well written!

OK UHMM.....

So, i have seen a lot of rc editors on instagram, and they are not Indian, and i have observed that they are highly brainwashed by a Russian's interpretation of the Indian Culture. I hope you understand what I am getting at, and that is Alexandra R's Kali Call of Darkness on Romance Club. They think that Goddess Kali is a blood thirsty goddess. No. She is not. Alexandra didn't do proper research, and hence didn't mention why Kali actually drank blood. Kali is not a sadistic goddess.

The reason Kali drank blood, was because of the demon she was destroying. The demon she was destroying was Raktbeeja and NOT MAHISHASURA AS PER THE WRITTING OF ALEXANDRA R IN THE STORY, and the demon, upon the spilling of his blood ON THE GROUND, would multiply. So it was impossible to kill him. Kali, killed him, and in order to prevent the blood spilling on the ground, collected it on a bowl and then drank it, before it could spill on the ground. Thus, she prevented the multiplying of Raktbeeja, and successfully killed him.

Kali was shown as a sadistic goddess in the story, and people are highly brainwashed by it and convinced that Kali actually wants human sacrifices. I, as an Indian, a Hindu and a worshipper of Shakti, doubt that she wants such sacrifices for her worship. She is the Great Mother, and a mother will never want her children to be harmed for the sake of her worship. Yes, maybe some worshippers did sacrifice humans, but it is strictly banned in India.

The story is fictional, and I know I am not supposed to take it seriously, but the few comments i have seen against the goddess outraged me and heavily hurt my sentiments.

Some people might take the story seriously, and they might build up a sense of racism and can affect people in real life.

I will not mention who are the particular ones, but if you do notice them, please, dont get convinced of the fact that Indians are bloodthirsty demons, and Kali is a sadistic goddess.

I really miss Path of the Valkyrie and Alexandra's writing in general. It sucks so hard that she won't be able to continue her work at RC. I think her writing was getting better and better over time, and while Path of the Valkyrie has some highs and lows, I was fully expecting her next project to be a total banger.

The LIs are probably my favourite aspect of her writing -- in that regard it reminds me a little of Theodora. Just the range of archetypes is impressive, and somehow they are all handed so well. Sagr's romance is a beautiful angsty slowburn which reveals the tender, caring, but deeply wounded man behind a rough exterior. Ullr's path is comforting, like coming back home. Andvari is the soft-spoken pocket-sized bf who is going to treat you like a princess and you can carry him in your arms. Thor is like a force of nature, wild and a little terrifying, and he has an absolutely fascinating set of morals that makes him actually feel kind of non-human. And Loki's path is just something else. You think you have this chaotic trickster all figured out, and the next episode he flips everything on its head.

And I also just want to shout out the female LIs in particular. Nowadays, RC is moving in a better direction in terms of making stories with more diverse casts (books like Heart of Trespia, Hell and High Water, The One, Vying for Versallies, Elite Tag in particular come to mind). But back when Path of the Valkyrie first came out, it was unfortunately the norm across RC stories to treat wlw paths as an after-though (there were occasional wins for the wlws, but it was kind of barren overall). And in contrast Liod and Vanadis paths felt like such a breath of fresh air. I mean Liod is still one of the few masc female LIs on the app. And Vanadis has such a compelling character arc about finding her voice and standing up to those who wronged her after a lifetime of objectification and neglect. They both have their roles in the bigger story and their romances feel just as genuine and authentic as the men's, rather than a side hookup.

I hope they can find a writer who will love those characters as much as Alexandra clearly did, so Path of the Valkyrie can get the ending it deserves. But even then, it's still going to be bittersweet.

4. langley (not sure about 7b yet but i really love her writing style overall and when she gets into a dynamic, she gets into it which has me excited to see her write with that same level of passion again. i also love how she gets in so deep with story branching, i don't think anyone else does it quite like her)

5. remy (sigh... i don't like her sloppy approach to building stories where she just slaps any culture or real world setting that fits on top of her story and calls it a day without much research or respect but she comes up with good concepts and her stories are enjoyable i gotta give her that)

6. veronica (wack writing schedule aside i just don't think i like her approach to storytelling or dals as a book and don't think i'll be interested in her future books unless i'm really sold on the premise so)

aside from the lyrics the music in itself, instrumental and back vocals, is very akin to cain - in this aspect i think the 1.0 version fits even better than the 2.0, it gives this mysterious dangerous ethereal vibes (which to me are also some of his most appealing characteristics)

I wonder if Lane was an anomaly or she's actually given second chance in life. Her story reminds me so much of ppl who wake up after years in coma. I think it's the latter but I know sm players believe the first one because no one could remember their birth except for Lane in ep. 4.

Also, I like how every characters in HSR has different ways to respond to their traumas. Lane's so desperate to be acknowledged by other ppl. How cold and withdrawn Dmitry is (although he can be nice). Anna can get really anxious sometimes. Kira's being emotional the WHOLE TIME (this girl is annoying as heck ngl). Noah is constantly complaining about his friend's death and eventually going berserk. Greg's trying to keep himself sane even if he knew he's stressed out by the loss of his stepsister and Nick. Cain is showing his guilt and anger everytime someone brings up his past. I like how mature this book is. Alexandra K. is great at fleshing out each character without doing too much. I like the way she's focusing on what part of the story need to be told on each episode. The first episodes she's more focused on the abominations, the zombies, and the book of Apocalyse. In June update, she put more details about the cults, the rituals, and just a bit about the shaman. This is one of those books I could enjoy even if I weren't dating anyone in the game. I think one of Alexandra's strongest suit is she's great at pacing her story and balancing every element in her story. If she kept this up until season 3, I think she's going to be one of the best RC writers.

her backstory must've been mentioned for a reason so it's likely she was always meant to be here and be the one to decipher the book, but i agree with you. i'm tired of the chosen one trope too and with the themes of coming back to life/resurrection in hsr and lane thinking about why she's even holding onto life, it would be a great set up for her to be a random person given a second chance to save/doom her soul/humanity based off the path you choose.

omg i never thought of that?? lane's need to be useful came from being raised by parents that didn't want her. she had to try to earn their love by proving she was smart and worthy enough for all the pain her birth caused them ohhh my baby :((

since it's a book set during the apocalypse, it has to be plot driven but she's balancing it well with gradually revealing more about each character. it never overshadows the actual plot but all the subtle details she mentions adds up to give us a cast of characters who we know enough about to care for while still keeping the tension and mystery that's characteristic of this book.

yes!! if she'd immediately jumped into the cult aspect of the story, it would've been confusing. i liked that she took the time to set the stage, slowly increasing the scale of horror. this update was a lot darker than the previous eps and i wouldn't mind if it gets even worse bc she writes it well enough to deliver confusion and dread, without going overboard.

that's what i said too!! hsr can stand alone without the lis bc of how interesting and complex both lane and the plot are (although the routes with each li are compelling too). i really can't wait to see what she's cooking for the next update & season. i already trust her so much so i know that finale is going to decimate us next year 🙏

I assume Sotcn is doing fantastic stat-wise cause now Chapters has a rip-off story called "Bride of Anubis" with the exact same setting, a suspiciously similar cinematic intro and literally the exact same MCs and starter clothes, not to mention that Anubis is clearly drawn and written after Amen 🤣 I also got news of yet another app planning to release an Egypt story, but I don't remember details cause I wasn't interested 🤔 Clearly this particular theme being crazy popular all of a sudden is no coincidence lmao

The funniest thing is too that SCN came about the same way you mentioned. League of Dreamers had released Tablet of Isis a few months earlier, which was somewhat successful in that time and shortly after RC announced that they would release a story about ancient Egypt (and about witches as well, Alexandra's poll and all). After a huge demand about ancient egypt not answered, they release it right after LOD, I don't think it was a coincidence XD
