we saw daniel as a teen and young adult, and miles as a young adult (i dunno his age in that flashback but it sure looked like the 90s, so yeah) so to complete to trifecta, my vision of 18 to early 20s charlotte is basically: low pigtails tied with bobble hair ties, faded star trek next generation t-shirt, cardigan that's too big for her (sleeve paws...), wool striped skirt worn over jeans, ugg boots, chipped glittery nail polish, all of her clothes came from charity shops and she has extreme Extroverted Nerd energy exuding from her

Convention was a success! I LOVE all my pictures this year! And Lana complimented my costume 😄 Not pictured: my gay meltdown when she took her jacket off later and revealed that the shirt is a cutoff.

My Fan-Cast for the Movie Adaptation of Wicked
Tumblr media
As many of you are aware, I absolutely ADORE Wicked and I'm so excited about the movie adaptation that is just taking FOREVER to be made, even before the pandemic came along. So, like many people, I just keep wanting them to make some casting announcements for the movie already and have been making my own fan-cast for the movie, even making a video of my fan-cast. However, I felt like taking the time to explain my casting choices so everyone knows why I made my choices. I will provide my fan-cast video at the end, so you can hear the vocal capabilities. Please keep in mind that this is just my personal opinion, so there's no need to be rude. Let me know what you think of my casting choices because I LOVE reading comments/retweets, especially long and detailed ones. Enjoy!
Emma Thompson as The Midwife
Tumblr media
This is a minor role and I know that it is a waste of Emma Thompson's talents to put in a minor role but I just keep imagining her in the role. I mean, her voice just suits the character. She has a beautiful voice, even if it's not really among the great singers. Plus, the character would require a good actress because of how there isn't much required of the singing. Besides, there are major stars who have been in minor roles, despite that they were already major stars at the time of the release. I don't have much to say with this as I do with the others.
Rebecca Mader as Melena Thropp
Tumblr media
Everyone probably knowns her for her role on Once Upon a Time as the Wicked Witch of the West, Zelena, which would make her playing the role of Elphaba and Nessa's mother all the more perfect. It may be a minor role, but she has proven she can make an impact even in a minor role like she did in the third Iron Man movie. She clearly has the acting chops for the role and the musical episode of Once Upon a Time has shown that she has the singing chops because she had the best voice out of the entire cast. I mean, Melena Thropp only sings one line, but the original Melena and Rebecca sound a lot alike. She's proven in Once Upon a Time that she can be very convincing as a woman in labor, which is a major thing for Melena because the biggest thing she does in her screentime is that she gave birth to Elphaba. She also looks like she could be the mother of my choices for Elphaba and even like she could be related to my choices for Nessarose.
Alan Cumming as Frexspar Thropp
Tumblr media
This is the last of the minor roles, but this character does have more going on than the other two. This character would require a strong actor who can be emotionally distant and cold without coming off as robotic or stale. He needs to be able to show how doting he is with Nessa, though still reserved and composed, while also being able to show his disdain for Elphaba. Alan Cumming is a brilliant actor that can play a variety of roles, so he would be able to capture the character. He even has experience with musicals, most notably being his role in the 1999 film version of Annie where he played one of the main antagonists, Rooster. He has a great voice so he would be great for the role both in terms of acting and musicality.
Chris Colfer as Boq (Act 1)
Tumblr media
Yeah, for the characters I'm doing double-casting because of how Act 1 takes place when they are in school and Act 2 takes place many years later. Starting off with this double-casting is my choice for Boq in Act 1, Chris Colfer. Boq in Act 1 is a very awkward character that is in love with Glinda but she doesn't give him the time of day, which is a character that Chris Colfer plays very well. He'd be able to capture the awkwardness, the sweetness, the hidden frustration, and the overall dorkiness of the character in Act 1. His face practically screams all of that. He not only can act but is has an incredible singing voice that can handle the moments when Boq belts out. Plus, his very feminine sounding voice would just add to the character being seen as a dork that Glinda just doesn't have any interest in but he keeps pining for. Plus, he has such a youthful look to him that he can pass as someone who is still in school.
Daniel Radcliffe as Boq (Act 2)
Tumblr media
I feel like Daniel Radcliffe has the right look for Boq in Act 2 because he can be more serious and intense, which is required for the character when he becomes heartless and the Tinman, but can still look awkward and dorky. His performance as Harry Potter shows he can look emotionless while also not coming off as a bad actor, which is important for when he's Nessa's butler, as an attempt to force him to remain by her side along with taking away the rights of the munchkins. He needs to be able to show how he resents Nessa while appearing emotionlessly professional, despite her pining for him. Not only can he act, but he even has musical experience by playing the protagonist of the show How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. I had no idea that he could sing so well. His voice is powerful enough to handle Boq's singing during the song "March of the Witch Hunters."
Kevin Kline as Doctor Dillamond
Tumblr media
Kevin Kline was just the first and only actor that came to mind when I was thinking of who to cast for Doctor Dillamond, especially after watching his performance in the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. First of all, I know that Kevin Kline's true vocal abilities weren't displayed in that movie because he actually has a great voice and a lot of Broadway experience. However, Doctor Dillamond is not a character that really shows a lot of impressive vocal ability. His voice is a lot more limited and I felt like Kevin Kline captured the qualities of Doctor Dillamond's singing perfectly when he sang "How Does a Moment Last Forever" in Beauty and the Beast. That role also showed he could pull off the tender, loving, and quirkiness of Doctor Dillamond. He's just perfect for the role.
Sofia Carson as Nessarose (Act 1)
Tumblr media
She has the perfect look for Nessarose, at least the type of Nessarose that I imagine. I always imagined her as someone with light skin (With Sofia it depends on the lighting), long and silky black hair, and of course so damn gorgeous. Nessa is described as being a radiant beauty, which Sofia Carson clearly is. Not only that, but she has played characters that are a little spoiled and selfish like Nessa, who never appreciates all that Elphaba does for her. She also has a beautiful voice. I mean, her voice is very breathy and nasally, as well as kind of frail and fragile, but I feel like that would suit Nessa. First of all, in Act 1, there isn't really much required of Nessa in terms of vocal ability, though she still has to be able to sound good. Secondly, her voice being kind of frail and fragile, though her voice isn't weak by any means, would really suit Nessa because of how she is treated as frail and fragile, due to not being able to walk or take care of herself. It suits her and the sheltered life she's lived that matches her falling instantly in love with the first guy who asks her out on a date.
Lucy Hale as Nessarose (Act 2)
Tumblr media
First of all, don't Sofia and Lucy look like they could be related? Secondly, Lucy Hale really suits Nessarose in Act 2 where she is now the Governor of Munchkin Land (A position that is apparently isn't done through election but rather through a family bloodline) and known as The Wicked Witch of the East, despite her not having any magical powers like her sister. Lucy Hale is absolutely GORGEOUS! Just like Sofia Carson, she is what I imagine when I picture what Nessarose should look like. Light skin, dark hair, and red lips. Not to mention her sharp eyes would be able to show the cruel nature of Nessarose in Act 2. Do I even need to mention her acting chops? She is a brilliant actress who is best known for her hit show Pretty Little Liars. She also has an amazing voice that is very different from Sofia Carson's but would still suit Nessa in Act 2. Unlike in Act 1, Nessa isn't really treated as frail and fragile but rather seen as a cold-hearted dictator. Lucy's voice is much deeper and more powerful, which shows Nessa's maturity from a delicate girl. Plus, during the song "Wicked Witch of the East" (Which was never included in the soundtrack for some dumb reason), she has a moment where she actually does belt, which shows her desperation of wanting Boq to be alright. She's more demanding than she was in Act 1, which I think Lucy Hale can display with her incredible acting and singing abilities. She's proven time and time again what a strong actress she is.
Glenn Close as Madame Morrible
Tumblr media
I don't even think I need to list Glenn Close's acting credits! She is right up there with Meryl Streep and Julianne Moore, only that Glenn is LONG overdue for an Oscar win. She is a brilliant actress! One of THE best actresses that ever existed! My favorite role she's been in is as Cruella De Vil in the live-action remake of 101 Dalmatians and its sequel, 102 Dalmatians. So she has experience playing villainesses. That is important because of how Madame Morrible doesn't really sing much and requires more of a strong actress than a singer. However, Glenn Close has a great voice and has a lot of Broadway experience, particularly the lead role of Sunset Boulevard. She has the right look for Madame Morrible. Like, she has a face you'd expect her to have when you think of Madame Morrible.
Kelsey Grammer as The Wizard
Tumblr media
First of all, I know Kelsey's voice is a lot deeper than people are used to for The Wizard, but I feel like that doesn't make much of a difference. An important aspect to capture for The Wizard is that he is a total ham that loves to get a bunch of attention. If you have seen Kelsey Grammer's performance as Frasier in Cheers and more specifically Frasier (The FAR superior show), you'd know that Kelsey can definitely ham it up while still not having it come off as bad acting. When it comes to hammy acting for a hammy character, you need to be able to find the right balance, which is hard to do. Kelsey is an expert at this and would just love eating up the role. He can also capture the sentimental and tender side that tries to convince Elphaba to join him, twice. His deep and dulcet sounding voice would be able to capture that better than the typical high pitched and nasally voice The Wizard usually has. Not to mention he has a great voice that can handle the energetic nature of The Wizard while still maintaining the vocal quality. He has a lot of Broadway experience and a lot of you who aren't familiar with his work have actually already heard him sing if you've seen the animated movie, Anastasia, where he provided both the speaking and singing voice for Vlad. He's absolutely PERFECT for The Wizard.
Jordan Fisher as Fiyero (Act 1)
Tumblr media
First of all, I have to point out something and that is that in the book that the musical is based on, Fiyero was brown. They were never specific on what race he is and it's kept ambiguous but he and the people of his kingdom are described as having brown skin. This is something rarely ever seen in the stage show, though you could argue that it was among a long list of things that were changed from that terrible book. Anyway, I feel like this is something that should be taken into account when casting for the movie because representation is important. Now, with that out of the way, Jordan Fisher would be absolutely amazing as the cocky and fun-loving Prince Fiyero in Act 1. He has the right look, can seriously dance, is a great actor, and has a PHENOMENAL voice. He has proven he can play cocky characters in Rent: Live and Grease: Live. Those helped display his Broadway experience and that's not even the tip of the iceberg of his Broadway experience. His voice is so incredible that he is basically the male equivalent of Mariah Carey with those impressive high notes. He can play a cocky character and still show tenderness and charm, which is important for Fiyero.
Corbin Bleu as Fiyero (Act 2)
Tumblr media
First of all, don't Corbin and Jordan look a lot alike? But that's not the only reason why I cast him as Fiyero in Act 2. I discovered that he has done a lot of Broadway work and really showed what an amazing voice he has. I mean, when he was on Disney, I thought his voice was great but in a kind of pop singer way that felt like he was holding back. Broadway-style music really showed what he was capable of with his powerful and strong voice that is full of energy and tenderness. Not to mention he's an incredible dancer. He's a great actor that would be able to capture Fiyero's more mature nature he has in Act 2 and how protective he is over Elphaba. He'd capture the charm of the character perfectly!
Dove Cameron as Glinda (Act 1)
Tumblr media
First of all, the original actress for Glinda, Kristin Chenoweth, is campaigning for Dove Cameron to play Glinda in the movie. That shows that Dove is an amazing choice! I trust Kristin Chenoweth's judgment, apart from when she thought it was a good idea to play Maleficent in that AWFUL Descendants movie. Anyway, Dove has proven in her performance as Amber in Hairspray: Live that she can play the part of an egocentric, girly, primadonna VERY well. Glinda definitely needs a strong actress to capture the negative and basically white privilege that is Glinda while still being charming and engaging, which Dove is more than capable of doing. She definitely has the vocal chops to pull it off with her powerful voice that can even do operatic singing and hit really high notes, which is required for the role of Glinda. She may be a Disney Channel star, but she is also classically trained. She'd be perfect for Glinda in Act 1!
Megan Hilty as Glinda (Act 2)
Tumblr media
As you can see, I've included an actress who has actually played one of the characters on the stage. I didn't do that with other characters because screen acting and stage acting are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT skillsets. What works for one doesn't work for the other. Stage acting is a lot more exaggerated and broad because they have to make sure their performance can be seen by everyone in the audience. Screen acting can be a lot more subtle and intimate. That's not to say that there aren't actors that can do both stage and screen acting, almost all of the actors here have. Megan Hilty has played Glinda many times before and is the second-best Glinda after Kristin Chenoweth. She has the bubbly personality, the comedic timing, and the maturity (That comes later in the show) that is required for the role of Glinda in Act 2. She has a brilliant voice that has sung these songs MANY times, so it's obvious that she can hit the high notes and sing in an operatic voice. She's proven she can play Glinda on stage and I think she has the acting talent to be able to play her on-screen.
Ariana Grande as Elphaba (Act 1)
Tumblr media
I know that this is the most controversial choice on this list because people either love or hate the idea of Ariana Grande as Elphaba. First of all, guess what two people want her to be Elphaba. Kristin Chenoweth and the original Elphaba, Idina Menzel! Those two are among the QUEENS of Broadway and know these characters VERY well since they played them MANY times. I trust their judgment. Now with that out of the way, she may be known as a pop singer but she got her start being on Broadway LONG before her pop music career took off. When she sings Broadway music, that is when her voice manages to really shine through because of her background with Broadway. You can actually understand what she is saying because she has proper enunciation when she sings that style of music. She even sang "The Wizard and I" at Wicked's anniversary special. Her vocal ability is undeniable with her powerful and strong voice that can seriously belt and has such a beauty to it. Now, I know what people are gonna say, that she isn't a good actress. First of all, it's not fair to only judge her based off the roles she's been given where she's being typecast as the dumb chick thanks to her iconic role as Cat Valentine. However, she still plays that role well, but there is so much more to her than just that. In her performance on Saturday Night Live, where she got to show more of her acting range, she caught the attention of the legendary director, Steven Spielberg, who personally contacted her because he wanted her to be in one of his movies. However, she turned him down because she wanted to focus on her music career. The point is that if she managed to get the attention of one of the most successful and critically acclaimed directors of all time, you know that she truly does have acting chops that have just never been given a chance. Playing Elphaba would give her that chance!
Anneliese van der Pol as Elphaba (Act 2)
Tumblr media
Finally, we have my choice for Elphaba in Act 2, the brilliant and wickedly talented, Anneliese van der Pol. You all know her as Chelsea from That's So Raven and Raven's Home but there is SO MUCH MORE to her than just that. She has mainly thrived off of being on Broadway, with her most iconic role being the last actress to play Belle from Beauty and the Beast on Broadway and was the BEST out of all of the women who have played her. She has such a powerful and incredible voice! Her voice can actually give Idina Menzel a run for her money! It's a shame that she's not more famous because she has the phenomenal talent to be an A-list celebrity. Not only that, but she's a great actress too and can do so much more than just comedy, which she's proven with her performance as Belle. She also just has a face that is perfect for Elphaba, especially her nose. Another fun fact is that she is actually Jewish, just like Idina Menzel, which would make it even better if she was cast as Elphaba. She is the PERFECT choice for Elphaba and is not likely to get the role because she's not considered famous enough and that's considered more important than actual talent. But this is my fan-cast and I can cast whoever I want and she is just pure perfection for the part of Elphaba.

And that's a wrap on a very different convention weekend for me. I didn't get to meet everyone I had wanted to see, but I did get to take a lot of great pictures (one of the very few off-convention pictures Benedict Wong did, maybe even the only one), was more than pleasantly surprised to find that Steven Gätjen is even nicer in person than he appears to be on the telly, I met Rebecca Mader and Mark Pellegrino, but most importantly, I spent two great evenings with friends ❤️

OUAT 3X16 - It’s Not Easy Being Green
So, jealousy doesn’t transform Zelena into as much of a green eyed monster as it does a green DYED monster! XD
Tumblr media
Who’s ready for the next review? Hopefully you are, so let’s jump right to it!
Press Release
With Rumplestiltskin as her slave, Zelena challenges Regina to a fight to the death and shocks the Evil queen with the reveal of their familial connection, and the town lays Neal to rest. Meanwhile, back in the past in the land of Oz, a jealous Zelena asks the Wizard to send her to Fairy Tale Land after discovering that she has a sister, Regina, and that Rumplestiltskin is training her to become a powerful force to be reckoned with.
Main Thoughts - Characters/Stories/Themes and Their Effectiveness
Past
Before we start, I have to say this: I hate the placement of this flashback. Zelena acts WAY too wicked and mean in the present segment for this flashback to give her the sympathy that the narrative is asking it to. She openly pokes Rumple over Neal’s death in such a cruel way (The entire segment happening right after Neal dies), goes after Regina, and is just the worst. I don’t know if they should’ve exchanged this flashback with the one from “Witch Hunt” or “Bleeding Through,” but the placement here makes the segment struggle to do what it wants to. It ends up hurting the present segment because there are characters who make jabs at Zelena being abandoned that are supposed to hurt, but don’t. Look, I feel for abandoned characters, but when I heard Rumple and Regina making jabs at Zelena in this episode about it, my response was “YOU TELL HER!”
I also feel like Zelena’s jealousy is just too much. The pacing for this segment just goes from 0 to 80 in a millisecond! And I get that OUAT characters are exaggerated and hammy and normally, I’m all for that. But this is supposed to be a humanizing character and a humanizing flashback and she has more in common here with Cruella and Bo Peep than with Regina or Rumple. The hamminess is supposed to come in their non-sympathetic moments, but with Zelena it’s all the time. Because of that, only the latter half of the scenes in the episode work. There’s no buildup to a crazy jealousy. She’s just already there, destroying the momentum of the segment. And I’m pretty sure this isn’t Rebecca Mader’s fault, but the writing itself. Zelena just spirals early on in the episode
“Put on a good face.” Narratively, I feel like this line never got the solid foundation that it needed. Zelena supposedly rejects the line, as it comes from an abusive situation, but it breeds a negative consequence for dismissing it. Now normally, the character is supposed to initially reject the advice, but be thrust into believing it through desperation, circumstances, and their changing worldview. Look at “We Are Both” for a good example of this. But here, Zelena does eventually follow through with this line after becoming evil, but the rejection of it is what causes her to turn green. There’s a lack of cohesion here.
“Because you couldn’t offer her the one thing she truly wanted -- the ability to become royalty.” This line automatically makes all of Zelena’s planning for naught. Like, even if she goes back in time, for as powerful as she is, Cora still won’t take her in because she’s not of royal blood. And Zelena knows this -- it’s spelled out explicitly in front of her, making her further pursuit of Cora’s love so...fruitless. By not listening to that line, Zelena comes off as kind of dense in her plan.
Now, is the segment bad? No. I think there are good elements to it. While Zelena goes way too far way too fast with her jealousy, some moments do work out really well. The Rumple/Zelena dynamic was spot on the entire time. And Rumple...just EVERYTHING Rumple works. I especially loves when he sees the slippers and he IMMEDIATELY changes to a snivelling suck up to try to get them. What a great acting moment!
Present
I love Regina’s character arc throughout this episode. This is such an important episode for her as she realizes what she has in terms of support from her growing friendships and how she needs to both trust and be grateful for it. “She said I don’t always realize what I have right in front of me.” I like how this is another instance of the villain delivering the moral and it being something that connects to Zelena so well! Not only that, but everything she has to go through in terms of realizing that a big comfort in her life was a lie is utterly heartbreaking!
I also like Robin! He’s a great support character for Regina and while that will eventually be to his detriment, it’s great here!
Insights - Stream of Consciousness
-I just love Zelena’s mum! She just instantly loves Zelena and it’s honestly so cute! And her dad...wow, Zelena just can’t catch a break on the dad/father figure front, can she?
-”Stick to the road.” And she’s sassy too! HOW did we never get to see this woman again?! She’s utterly delightful!
-Fuck. Those moments from Killian dropping the soil onto the grave to the transition to Rumple in all kinds of pain. And the music. That fucking guts me. It really fucking guts me!
-You know, I feel like for as long as it was, I still skimped on my Neal’s death thoughts. As I watch this, I realize that Neal never really interacted with Snow, David, and Regina, the former two having named their KID after them and the latter being a co-parent to his son.
-I’m tearing up from how beautiful that funeral scene was. I love how the music and the shovels were the only sounds heard. It wasn’t drawn out or risked with a speech. It was just allowed to bask in its own sadness.
-”Was he really worth all the trouble?” “Every bit of it.” *Tears start welling again*
-”He was family. Something you know nothing about.” Normally, that would be the ultimate douche move for Rumple to say, seeing as he’s imprisoned and grieving, it just...feels right.
-”To see the one person to help me find a family that wants me!” Zelena, you absolutely SHOULD get out of that abusive home, but that’s a little dismissive of your adorable mum!
-”She’ll get more than a dart when I find her.” YESS! Emma, take that witch down!
-Robin, now that you’re exposed, you just love showing off that tattoo, don’t you? XD
-”So what?” Regina, you know that Henry is the only bright spot in your life. Let’s not kid ourselves.
-”My condolences.” You son of a bitch!
-”I don’t want a gift from you.” “But you shall have it.” ...Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that a reference to the “Pilot?” And if so, holy hell, my Snow/Regina/Cora theory is really freakin’ spot on! Oh my God, it is!
-”It’s the Wicked West.” ...Zeze, the fuck?
-I actually love this table scene of everyone coming together and theorizing what the fuck is up with Zelena!
-I LOVE Walsh’s Wizard voice. It’s so powerful, but ha a gentle softness to it too.
-Also, as we watch this episode, I have to say that Walsh wasn’t such a well designed character. In “New York City Serenade,” he’s a Hans-like villain who is supposed to be irredeemably bad. But in this flashback, the worst he does is lie. Not only that, the whole time he DOES lie, he’s kind, supportive, and takes Zelena’s feelings into account! He’s a bonafide sweetie!
-I’m pretty sure Rumple spent a hot second thinking Zelena was his kid. Okay, show of hands: Who thinks Cora and Rumple boned?
-Damn, paternity tests are REALLY easy in the Enchanted Forest! I now HC that Rumple played a part in sorting out the whole Lily debacle!
-”I don’t think a sleeping curse is good for the baby.” You’d be surprised, Snow!
-Wow! Look who has a personality, Robin! A nice bit of sass you’ve got there!
-This scene with Regina, Robin, and the letter is utterly magnificent! Lana’s acting here is just so great as she slowly paints this picture of how this letter was a comfort to her, only for that to be ruined by the realization that the first born described was not her. It’s a beautifully tragic sequence.
-”I foresaw that that curse could only be cast by Cora’s daughter.” Now WHEN did you see this? If it was after Cora broke things off with you, that would be one thing, but if it was before -- and narratively, before does make more sense -- that causes some trouble. Because if you saw this before you met Cora, and you were planning to run off with her and presumably have a kid, then it would be the Zelena problem all over again: You’d just have another magical child who can’t cast the curse because the thing they love most would be Rumple (That or Rumple would have no problem with killing Cora, the woman he loved, to enact the curse).
-I like how Zelena sort of made Rumple a better teacher by asking for something to reference!
-”Some spinsters took us in.” It’s weird. He kind of jumps to the royal “we” for like half of this speech for some reason. It’s a really weird writing choice.
-”The moment you decided to train me.” Look at Rumple’s face! He knows he went to far with being kind to her and fucked up!
-Emma! This stealth mission involves a lot of yelling! Maybe you should cut that out!
-I love how Rumple SO doesn’t want to deliver that message from Zelena, but still puts every bit of passion into it!
-”Like a GPS?” “Aye.” The beat between those two lines gets me every fucking time! XD
-”The more things you guys tell me about my dad, the less things make sense.” Welcome to OUAT, Henry!
-”I’m not an amateur. I’m the Savior.” What a badass line.
-I love how Regina’s first instinct is not to use magic, but slap a bitch! XD
-WHAT’S UP WITH ZELENA AND FUCKING SHAVING?!
-”You’re insane.” “Besides the point.” XD What an underrated quip!
-I kind of want to see some fanart of Rumple getting his sparkly little hands on those slippers!
-”My Miata.” Doc, I feel for you. I really do, but you KNEW there was gonna be a fight here. You could’ve moved your car. That’s on you, bro!
-Like seriously! #Walshdeservesbetter! The dude’s not a villain and I don’t like his portrayal in “New York City Serenade” retroactively as a result!
Arcs - How Are These Storylines Progressing?
The Wicked Witch - Okay, my issues aside, I think Zelena is still a great villain. Look at how everyone reacts when she enters a space! Everyone backs the fuck away, terrified and she gets to go on her funny rants because few have the balls to say anything about it. And the arc itself is moving at an engaging pace and has a good establishment of setting a narrative with questions that need to be answered while also setting the groundwork for those answers with Regina rising up to take on Zelena.
Neal’s Death - So, while Neal dying isn’t an arc, per se, I feel it is important to keep track of how the narrative handles Neal for the rest of the season. The after effects of a death can be just as earth shattering in a story as the death itself and it’s a show of how the writing team respects the character. And this episode thankfully, handles it nicely. Neal’s passing follows everyone throughout the episode and is a strong presence in everyone’s action, most notably Emma’s.
Killian’s Redemption - I love Killian’s role in this episode. He’s working hard to become a better person, quell Emma’s lust for revenge, and most importantly, help comfort Henry. He knows he majorly fucked things up with Bae and helping henry see the kind of person his father was is such a step in righting that wrong because he’s honoring Bae’s dying wish. I also like that for Henry’s sake, even if it goes against what he knows Emma wants, he argues that Henry needs to know his father. I think this shows how Killian’s redemption is more serious than it initially lets on and is more motivated than just by Emma.
Regina’s Redemption - Even though Regina know she can’t win, even when she feels so at a loss and helpless. she goes to fight for everyone! She grits her teeth, comes up with a plan, and ultimately wins more than she loses. This is Regina at her peak! She’s snarky, sarcastic, cool, smart, and she’s gonna kick your ass!
Favorite Dynamic
Henry and Killian. Once again, in an episode filled with sad moments and dark things, this dynamic was a well needed reprieve. Killian comes in, fulfilling both a character and a story purpose. The Henry/Killian subplot was just sweet and kind. Seeing Killian understand what Henry needs to hear about his father and delivering it in a way that keeps everyone’s dignity and respect intact was great. Also, I have to appreciate the difficult position that the characters are in here, and how the writing did a very genuine and natural job of improving Henry’s memory-influenced relationship with Neal.
Writer
Andrew Chambliss is once again on his own this time. And yeah...I felt like some of this was rocky and lacked cohesion over what over what we were supposed to feel.
Rating
7/10. The past segment of this episode is really flawed, but not to the full detriment of either the present segment or even itself. There are good qualities to it, especially when we hit the forest scene going forward, BUT there are some narrative issues that are more than just nitpicks and hinder whatever emotions the audience tries to attribute to Zelena. But enough about the bad. Let’s talk about the good. First, Regina’s just marvelous in this episode. Her struggle with dealing with Zelena is so good and angsty and how she performs during the witch fight is just awesome. Second, the Killian and Henry subplot was so touching. This isn’t an easy situation to write considering the unique positions of any of these characters, but what is written is just gorgeous. Finally, Rumple just rocks. He’s the highlight of the flashback and in the present, the whump is high and appropriately desolate and sad and I am here for this!
Flip My Ship - The Home of All Things “Shippy Goodness”
Swan Fire - Emma’s sadness and rage at losing Neal gives me fucking life and makes me weep like a lil bitch! She loved Neal so much. And he’s gone! Like, the fact that someone had to intervene shows how angry she had gotten and I like how the narrative plays up how hurt she was. And then Snow and David show up, and you see just how saddened she is at Neal’s passing.
Captain Swan - I think this is some of the most lowkey Captain Swan stuff, but it’s also really effective. Seeing Killian step in and stop Emma from focusing so hard on revenge is really touching after she introduced him to a new path. It’s also amazing how Killian’s not only willing to help Emma with Henry right now, BUT to actively help him grieve and you see how this is the kind of personality that Emma responds to more than anything. He focuses on her needs (“Nothing will happen to the boy while he’s in my charge.”).
Outlaw Queen - Okay, the entire scene at Granny’s is just plain adorable, from Regina and Tink “gossiping about boys” to Robin making sure Regina was okay to Robin just FUCKING FLAT OUT asking her on a date. And their banter and trust as the episode continues to progress is so delightful! It’s fucking cute, if you couldn’t tell my thoughts, and I’m happy that I’m falling for these two again! I also just love how Robin knows that Regina’s an utter powerhouse and while not being afraid, does respect both her power and consent.

Area Man Encounters Autograph Seller, Sees Entire Life Flash Before His Eyes
“I thought he was just a normal fan,” said the traumatized man, who went by ‘Colin O’Donoghue’ before legally changing his name to ‘Oh God How Many Pictures Are In There’ and moving to Antarctica. “But he wasn’t.”
Onlookers reported that things started out cheerfully, with O’Donoghue happily signing an autograph for the man before realizing with alarm that the man had approximately 5,236 photos cleverly hidden in a manila envelope, waiting to be signed by him.
“It was like he had Mary Poppins’ carpet bag or something,” said a horrified witness. “It looked like a simple envelope, but there was infinite space inside of it, and I’m pretty sure time as we know it stood still in there.”
Not all of the photos inside were even of O’Donoghue. Sources state there were also pictures of other celebrities - namely, Lana “Don’t Tell This Man Where I Live” Parrilla and Rebecca “Please Leave Me Out of This” Mader. The autograph seller did not even bother to separate the photos from one another, presumably to save space and time when accosting celebrities.
“Am I legally required to sign all of these?” O’Donoghue was overheard asking after his 532nd signature. “Can someone please help me?”
He thought his ordeal was over when the ink ran out on the pen he was using, but the autograph seller was immediately ready with another one. “I’m always prepared!” he stated proudly.
“I’m going to die here,” were Mr. O’Donoghue’s last words before changing his name and fleeing the continent.

Friday: 1st day of convention, dinner @ Main St. Brewery, VIP meet and greets - Chris, Jared, Alex, Jason

Tuesday: Departure. :(
And there it is. A quick sum of the parts of Van2018. There’s so much more I could say, because it was honestly one of the most magical trips of my whole life, but this is a damn good summary. I made up some collages of the pictures I took throughout the week. Unfortunately, I’m really crap at taking pictures with/of other people. I’m very much a scenery person? So unfortunately, I took a small number of pictures of the small number of people I hung out with/met.

11. talk about the best dream you’ve ever had.
okay my best dream ever was when i met colin o’donoghue (from once upon a time) and bob morley (from the 100) on the same day, at the same time. then half the dream came true, see number 14
14. talk about a vacation.
alright so my best vacation ever was my road trip to chicago with two of my friends. we started in florida, drove to georgia where we saw the mystic falls town from the vampire diaries, drove to nashville, and then to chicago. after exploring chicago (aka my favorite city in the whole world) for two days, there was a once upon a time convention there which we went to. i met colin o’donoghue twice and got a picture with him and got to look him in the damn eyes, along with lana parilla, rebecca mader, and emilie de ravin. then on the way back we stopped in indianapolis, kentucky, and atlanta. all in all, great trip 10/10 would recommend also colin is fckn beautiful in person
32. talk about a place you remember from your childhood.
already answered here!
