What's a venomous snake you would want as a pet if there was a non-venomous version?
Rattlesnakes would be cool, but if I can only pick one, I'd pick red-bellied black snakes.
These super cool, incredibly beautiful Australian elapids haunt my dreams. I have seriously considered moving to Australia almost solely so I can work with them.
Tumblr media
The woefully few times I've worked with them in Australian labs, they have uniformly been such incredible delights. They're large, intelligent, engaging snakes, and tend to have very calm, sweet-natured personalities. They're the kind of snake who are curious about everything, and they tend to be so slow-moving and polite in temperament you feel a bit silly handling them with snake hooks and other protective equipment.
Tumblr media
They have me thinking very unwise thoughts.

As an American I’m kind of loving the aussi stuff. I avoid reading fics where they go to America(just doesn’t feel right), but somehow Australia makes sense to me? Although I feel like both would be scared of the big ass spiders and bugs lol
omg NOOOO aziraphale loves all of god's creatures. he'd laugh when the huntsmans startle him and somehow befriend a cassowary. he'd put bird feed out for the rosellas but maybe a little too much and end up with emus at his kitchen window.
crowley would roll with the local snakes, like a venomous biker gang

Something about Crowley’s snake form being a red-bellied black snake and how they have to be really abused before they will bite. Something about how even though they are venomous, there are no recorded deaths. Something about how their first instinct is to run away….

Pendants for Anime North! The exact day after I finished these, I made three sales, so I went from a full display rack and checking pendants off the to-do list, to trying to figure out what else I could make, whoopsadaisy!
So for hanging style pendants, we have a Three Toed Sloth, Honduran Tent Bats, a Raccoon, a Barn Owl, a Red Fox, and a Garter Snake. (There's one more, but I'll share him later, he's a favourite. :) )
For scene style sea glass pendants, we have a Tree Frog, a Robin in a Magnolia tree, a Betta fish, and a Fire Bellied Newt. :)
I'll be at Anime North next week from May 26 to May 28, and I'll share my table number once I have it. :) In the meantime, I do still have a some beasts in the sh 0p as well if you have a hankering.
Please note: all creatures, including my sh0 p stock, will be joining me at Anime North, but not all will be coming back, so if you've had your eye on anyone, make sure to grab them before May 24th, when I'll be closing for the convention.

I would like you all to know what Wikipedia has to say about red belly black Crowley.
<<Within their habitat, red-bellied black snakes appear to have ranges or territories with which they are familiar and generally remain within. [...] Within their territory, they may have some preferred places to reside.>>

I'm probably late to this realisation, but I just learnt that Crowley's snake form is a Australian red bellied snake, and looking at the Wikipedia page about this snake is very interesting.
They are venomous, but not mortally so. They are actually the least dangerous snakes of their category (I mean, it's still Australia), and more importantly, they tend to favour fleeing from danger and humans instead of attacking. Does it remind you of someone ;) ?
Tumblr media
Anyway, it was probably chosen first for its colour scheme, but this snake is perfect for Crowley in every way. Look at this cutie

If hot snakes were safe to handle, which ones do you think would be the most fun/would enjoy it the most?
If they were safe to handle, I don't think I'd ever stop hanging out with red-bellied black snakes. They're such a treat to work with you actually feel a little silly handling them on a hook.

Me : I'm curious to know on which snake is based Crowley's snake appareance. I'm sure it's a snake more impressive than really dangerous. The red-bellied black snake : "It is not aggressive and generally retreats from human encounters, but can attack if provoked." Me : Yeah, I was right.
(I'm not a huge snakes fan but look at this beauty !)

Red-bellied Black Snake. Venomous, but not the most deadly Australian snake.
I let it pass by, without disturbing it. It’s good to keep an eye on the ground to avoid stepping on them though.
