Magnet's Media Mreviews
Red Faction Guerrilla Re-mars-stered and Fast and the Furious (2001)
So lets start by addressing the elephant in the room. Neither of these are kids movies and one of them isn't even a movie. this is because I want to transition this series from "maddie wants to review a whole series" and transition it to "hey this is something I've consumed recently, here are my thoughts formatted like a casual review" both because the serious reviews are harder to write, and because I like writing and like sharing my opinions on things but I've made both too scary in my mind. so yeah not just movies, lets review an xbox 360 game.
Red Faction Guerrilla was an xbox 360 generation open world third person shooter about doing revolution on mars. The remake is the same, though prettier. I realize this is an awkward review to start this relaunched series with, if i said that was intentional would you believe me? the game mostly revolves around the player as mason lastname (no relation) doing odd jobs for the Red Faction, blow up a building, blow up a lot of buildings, blow up a guy... most of this game is blowing something up for somebody. This is because at the time of release, red faction guerrilla was showing off some extremely cool destructible environment and building technology, and they knew what they had was cool and satisfying enough to build a whole game around. This leads to a game that plays well, side quests that lead into story progress that lead into side quests, satisfying gameplay loops, and one of the only games I know that looks worse than it is to play. Sure it has problems, its a ps360 open world game set on a desert planet, it comes with problems, but satisfying gameplay isn't one of them.
On the subject of problems, the story might as well not exist, the music is unmemorable, there are maybe 6 high quality cut scenes in the game and most of them have to do with a racist, native martian scavengers that the game sets up for a long time and then it turns out to be a jingoist caricature of a vague "native" culture that probably should've been cut. the weapons never get as crazy as you'd hope, mostly just different rocket launchers and normal guns, moving around without a car is a pain, the game penalizes you if a civilian npc dies in the same zip code but game good so 7/10
memorable bits: big hammer, dust gun, the terrible propaganda billboards, jenkins the old man that lets you blow stuff up in his car, the call of duty modern warfare missions right at the end, the sequel
fast and the furious
oh my god I'm so much more comfortable talking about a movie. the fast and the furious is a movie about a guy named brian trying to be a guy with a fast car named brian, he wants to get in with another group with vin deasil's character dom, but uh oh, brian's actually a cop, is he going to choose being a cop or being a racer, watch the movie to find out what he chooses just forget about the sequels.
Speaking of forgetting about sequels, what is this plot? so dom and his gang are stealing tvs and dvd players and selling them on the street, and brian is trying to get in with them, to see if they're doing it, in addition to illegal street racing, which they're also doing but that's not a good enough crime. So then brian has to get closer and closer to dom, while examining other racers to see if they did it, and getting close to dom's group while hiding from them also. And the big race "Race Wars" is going on and they wanna win the big race and its actually not that important despite this being a car movie. It's almost notable in how un-notable this "undercover cop who might defect" plot is, except theres also 10 sequels??? and a spinoff? like what do we need to know, where the one guy gets his ADD meds? how many gangs is he going undercover for? you'd think they'd recognize him after a point. or oh shit wait maybe the next movie is about completely different characters and they're all just car movies. anyway I got distracted but the movie's boring 5/10
memorable bits: racism, sexism, homophobia, uh dom's shitty friend who's homophobic and is also dating dom's sister which you'd think he would have a problem with, race wars, brian's shitty cop handler that sucks, the snoozer of a climax, brian maybe dying at the end

On this day, 8 July 1971, German radical and soon-to-be founder of urban guerrilla 2 June Movement (J2M) Georg von Rauch escaped custody from a Berlin court room in amusing circumstances. He and fellow radical Thomas Weisbecker were charged with beating a journalist from the widely-hated right-wing Springer press. Von Rauch (pictured, right) was convicted and Weisbecker (left) acquitted, but after the sentences were announced von Rauch and Weisbecker, who looked quite similar, switched places and von Rauch walked out of court a free man. As soon as von Rauch had had sufficient time to escape, Weisbecker announced that he is the one who should have been released. Confused and embarrassed court personnel were forced to release him. J2M later dissolved and most members joined the Red Army Faction. Dominic Brunsmeier and his twin brother Cedrick were born in Berlin, East Germany. Both were raised in a working class district near the Berlin Wall. Their father worked in the police force and strongly encouraged them to join. In 1992, the day after their eighteenth birthday, both brothers joined the Bundesgrenzschutz (BGS). Stationed with border patrol, Brunsmeier spent his first year getting accustomed to taking orders and filing paperwork. Brunsmeier excelled in crisis situations. He transferred to the Aviation Group long enough to obtain his helicopter license but his adaptability and experience with border surveillance flagged him for undercover operations.
In 1994, he was assigned to a joint task force aimed at quelling the growing threat of the Red Army Faction (RAF). In 2006 he was recruited by the GSG-9 to go undercover, where he would spend four years embedded with the Hannover Chapter of the Hells Angels. In both operations Brunsmeier's contribution was critical in seeing key members arrested and providing valuable information. While undercover, Brunsmeier honed skills in guerrilla tactics and improvised explosive devices. He developed prototypes of his electrified barricade and deployable shield.
Brunsmeier was later recruited into Rainbow in 2015 and participated in various operations against the White Masks terrorist organization. Following Rainbow's reorganization in 2022, he was added to the unit's new humanitarian squad, Wolfguard.

Warning! If players intent to use this weapon against EDF-Forces they will instantly feel the overwhelming satisfaction of a smart weapon device.  This mine is designed to differentiate between friend and foe.  Therefore it will be very helpful for the player in any battle.
Besides this small text there is really nothing more to read here.  Because what would be the meaning in writing more nonsense? Ok, you got me.  Nothing is more fun as to write stupid things in a texture for a game. Where else you'll get the chance to do something hilarious like this?  For real?  Ok, let me think of more strange things I could write down here.  Maybe I ... the game ends?  Should I tell you that in the end everybody on the ...

Alleged Red Army Faction (RAF) fugitive Daniela Klette has been arrested by German police after more than 30 years in hiding.
The 65-year-old was tracked down on Monday evening in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg.
A second person, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, has also been arrested.
Ms Klette is renowned for allegedly being part of the far-left armed group which terrorised Germany for decades.
She is accused of attempted murder and a string of serious robberies.
The second person to be arrested, a man who appears to be in the same age range as Ms Klette's robbery accomplices, was carrying fake identification. Police have not yet determined his identity.
Ms Klette has been flown by helicopter to Bremen, in the region where she committed the alleged robberies, and is now in pre-trial detention in Verden.
Police confirmed her identity using fingerprints. She did not resist arrest. Police found her after a tip-off from the public in November 2023.
Officials say they do not yet know how she managed to stay underground for 30 years, whether she was in Germany and who helped her to remain undetected.
The apartment is now being searched. Police have found magazines and ammunition for a handgun in the apartment but have not found a weapon.
Officials describe this arrest as a milestone in the fight against "terrorism" and say that it shows that "terrorists" can never feel safe no matter how long ago their crimes. 'Third generation'
Tabloid headlines about "RAF Rentner" or in English - the "Red Army Faction pensioners" - make the robberies between 1999 and 2016 sound like a TV sitcom about an elderly grandma on the run.
But the now-disbanded RAF - sometimes referred to as the Baader-Meinhof Gang - was violent.
Thirty-four people were killed between 1971 and 1993. The group targeted political figures and business leaders and among its victims were an attorney general and a Deutsche Bank chairman.
More than 200 people were injured.
Officials allege Ms Klette was part of the RAF's so-called third generation, which was active in the 1980s and 1990s.
It allegedly killed the Deutsche Bank boss in a roadside bomb, and shot dead a centre-left politician, tasked with privatising business in former communist East Germany, in his home.
In 1991 the group launched a gun attack on the US embassy in the western city of Bonn. No-one was injured, but traces of Ms Klette's DNA was later found at the site.
Two years later, the group bombed and partly destroyed a new prison which had just been built.
Hiding in the shadows
The Red Army Faction grew out of the 1960s radical student movement. Its aim was to undermine West German capitalism, and the group had links to Middle Eastern guerrillas.
Still today, the RAF is sometimes revered in certain radical-left wing circles. The gang's symbols occasionally crop up on clothing, regularly sparking anguished debates in Germany about whether left-wing extremism and violence is glamorised, rather than taken seriously.
Who were Germany's Red Army Faction militants?
The RAF officially disbanded in 1998 and some members, including Daniela Klette, went underground. Since then she and two other former RAF members allegedly survived financially by carrying out armed robberies of supermarkets and cash transporters. It is thought they raked in millions of euros in total.
Police wanted posters, saying "these people could be your neighbours", show grainy 1980s photos of the trio as shaggy-haired students.
More recent police photos of Ms Klette's two accomplices show grey-haired middle-aged men. But she appears to have avoided being spotted or photographed and police photos simply show a reconstructed image of what she might look like aged 65.
On 14 February, a state prosecutor called for information from the public on national TV during a true-crime documentary series, and hundreds of people called in with possible leads.
Somehow Daniela Klette managed to stay in the shadows and undetected for half her life as the search for her went nowhere for decades.
Until now.

who: @casimirtully when and where: the court of kings landing, shortly following the departure of king cedric tyrell and the reach faction from the coronation festivities. king tyland lannister schedules an audience with the river king, following an interaction between himself and lysarr rogare, the head of the lyseni bank - and in complete opposition to king casimir of house tully.
truthfully, it did not take miracles to figure out what was happening beneath the cloistered alcoves of kings landing's red keep; the multiple groups and factions forced together in such close proximity, regardless of where they were technically accommodated, made certain tensions all too obvious and too clear. one could only imagine the tension that lingered in the air to know the tully king and his court remained in the same room as the rogares of lys; the crumbling of a family connection that had resulted in bloodshed and, what could be argued to be war.
it was during the winter feasts that the court of rivers had apparently put down their goblets and picked up their blades instead, venturing deeper into the country to wipe out what remained of lyseni mercenaries that had bunkered down. no doubt because they had no choice but to; to bunker down whilst engaging in guerrilla tactic was a useless move. "he appears lacking in moral limit." tyland commented, his goblet of wine to his lips as he spoke directly to the flame haired man sat beside him; though who they spoke of, was another matter entirely. "as you already know, considering the circumstances. he seems to have gotten comfortable with king jaehaerys, for the sake of cementing an alliance with the lyseni bank. their shared valyrian blood makes it all the more apparent."
tyland lannister had taken to an audience with the rightful heir of the rogare bank; according to inheritance and bloodline at least, though he knew nothing about the true capabilities of the man. the bank spoke for itself, considering the lyseni spring was renowned amongst all, even on this side of the continent - one looked at lyseni items with a sense of luxury, as though they were valuables that signified toward social statues. tyland lannister saw the rise and fall of many such a house, including the likes of the hightowers themselves; never would one have considered house hightower to be in the state it was in today, and yet here it was.
"truthfully, i suspect his sister is here to be an option for a bride. he had the doctrine issued for a reason - and he would expect to lead his nobles with his own example." admittedly a problem for the westerlands - there was only supposed to be one queen. and yet, there could be another - and with that, came more influence. more fingers in what was kings landing.
Tumblr media
a shadow of it's former self. wealth acquired by trade, rather than physical natural resource, had it's advantage as much as it has it's downfalls; one being that they were unstable. one wrong move, and all the investments came tumbling. it had become clear what it was the rogares had set their eyes upon in regards to the westerlands and immense power of the lannisters; infamous even across the narrow sea, all heard of lannister gold and the rumours of it being cursed. to uproot their alliance with the riverlands, and instead shift interest into the mechanisms of the lyseni spring: only, tyland lannister knew that spring ended. nothing lasted forever, and as much as there was sudden rises in power, there was also shocking falls.
if he jumped onto every opportunity that came up, if he flung himself through every open door, he would find himself at a clear loss sooner rather than later. that was an importance factor in ruling; being able to evaluate what was truly more worthy in the long term, what held the biggest advantage and disadvantage. in the end, having a princess as a queen rather than remaining a princess married to a banker would prove more beneficial.
this was another house, another power gaining something of value for a short amount of time - it was not the same as the aristocratic, longstanding wealth of the noble houses of westeros. the two kings remained in the aftermath of a gathering feast between their two courts, following the announcement of the betrothal of king casimir tully and princess guinevere lannister - one by one the courtiers had taken their leave, until it was only the two kings left in the room. tyland watched the retreating figures of his brother and his sister, noting the way in which she briefly looked upon the pair of them before biding them goodnight; the sooner the marriage went through, the better. "but i suspect he was disappointed to know the betrothal is firmly set in stone."

I've apparently been a Twitch affiliate for five years as of today. That's...wow. Huh.
I started streaming on Twitch in November of 2017. At that time, I'd been out of uni for about half a year and had only just gotten a contract position through a temp agency after months of absolutely nothing. My first streams were a few hours long, almost always after I came home from work. I did five streams a week plus a full-time job for months. Not the best choice, but I was excited and hadn't figured out how to balance work and stream.
By the time I hit affiliate in July 2018, I'd left that contract position months ago. I was still streaming, now more regularly since I wasn't working at the same time, as well as making my first forays into voiceover. I had started digging into my backlog of games, with games like Red Faction: Guerrilla and Shadowrun: Hong Kong being the games of the day. I was always on camera and still living in Boston.
Since then, I've moved twice, stopped being on camera, and explored my own identity. I played some of my favorite games ever, embarked on 100+ hour playthrough of the Ace Attorney games, and designed my own backgrounds and thumbnails. I've been a player and GM on streamed TTRPGs, done some fun collabs, and thrown out way too many voices. And, well, I'm still streaming five years later.
Anyway, I'll be streaming later today to celebrate all this. Maybe I'll see you there!

Music Tag Game
Rules: put your music on shuffle and list the first 10 songs that come up, then tag 10 people
Tagged by @bluemaskedkarma!
This is actually from a very, very limited selection of my music because while it's been months, I haven't been arsed to migrate a lot of stuff to my new computer, so the results were...interesting.
Superpower, by X Ambassadors
What Once was lost, from the Halo Soundtrack (ironically enough, one I usually skip)
Start Again, by One OK Rock
Faction, from the Red Faction: Guerrilla soundtrack (excellent game, highly recommended)
Far Too Young To Die, by Panic! At the Disco
Wasted Nights, by One OK Rock
Gorgeous, by X Ambassadors
Wow, from the Julie and the Phantoms soundtrack (also one I usually skip)
Crossing a Line, by Mike Shinoda
Uprising Ambiance, also from Red Faction: Guerrilla
Statistically speaking, there should've been SOME Imagine Dragons and Linkin Park in there, so the randomizer was indeed random.
Tagging whoever wants to play!
