Sudden Zutara headcanon.
Both Zuko and Katara are terrible at making jokes or being funny. Especially when they are genuinely trying to be humorous, it always falls flat. However, they both think the other is the funniest person on the planet. Zuko would one hundred percent have laughed if he'd seen when Katara put Momo on her head when she was trying to prove that she doesn't hate fun. If Katara hadn't been stewing in her anger towards Zuko right after he joined them, she would have given an amused snort at his attempt to remember Uncle Iroh's tea joke.
Literally no one else thinks they're funny and even Sokka will groan at how terrible their humor is, but Zuko and Katara both think of each other as exceptionally funny.

Hey, I love your "something happens to Yu Mingye and it impacts Xue Yang" posts. I was just wondering if you've considered doing something similar for Xiao Xingchen? The only other role I know the actor in is as Yan dafu in 'Birth of the Drama King,' so it would probably be stuff like "when Yan dafu calls someone an idiot, Xiao Xingchen feels the sudden urge to apologize for no reason" or "when Yan dafu's father tells him to murder Ji Chuan, Xiao Xingchen unknowingly kills Song Lan."
That’s a great idea! Thank you for the inspiration - I’ll give it a go!

Greetings, my lords. I was wondering, which of the non-orc sentient races of Arda do you find most useful for your plans, or, at least, the one you find least repugnant?
Hmmmm. That is an interesting question. Men are more corruptible, but they are also more fragile and far more irritating and repugnant. Elves are less corruptible in the sense of joining us. But at the same time, they can be tricked into fighting each other, which is both useful and amusing to watch. Watching them destroy themselves is fun. Also, elves can be turned into more useful creatures like orcs. Melkor would probably say dragons. But I think that, at least so far, his dragons are too unpredictable and too difficult to restrain to be entirely useful for actual plans. They are good at destruction, though.

Another gloriously gruesome chapter. Poor Maedhros, can't even have one little thing to console himself. On an unrelated note, there has been a question that has surfaced in my mind. In your works, you have orcs that do things other than serve as warriors (such as Styrrak, who's a physician), and I've been wondering, as Angband is both a fortress and the capital of an evil empire, are there orcs that are trained to do the bureaucratic work? Or is that left up to maiar like Mairon?
Ahaha thanks, and yeah, things are never really on the up for poor Maedhros :(
To answer your question, yes, absolutely I think that there are orcs who do the mundane civil service jobs in Angband. As you correctly point out, Angband is both a fortress and essentially a capital city, and though it is very focused towards warfare, there’s a whole load of other things that go into running a smoothly operating empire. I’d imagine there are lots of orcs who supervise various agricultural outputs, and lots who do the farming themselves. There would be messengers, civil planners, nurses, explorers, bureaucrats, engineers, clerics, cooks, farriers, smithies, builders, musicians - you name a job in a pseudo-medieval society and there’s probably an orc out there doing it! I would expect that as much manual labour as possible would be left for slaves to perform, but there’s only a limited amount of slaves, so probably a lot of orcs get their hands dirty too. We just haven’t seen too many of these guys in my writing save in passing mention, they’ve never really been the focus of my stories, but maybe they should be!
And when it comes to higher authorities, while I think there are more Maiar among the higher echelons of Angband’s society, there would be a fair few orcs and uruks too - ones with cunning and intelligence to make the fortress run at its most efficient best!
(I hope you don’t mind me publishing this publicly - I thought that other people might be interested in this topic too!)

Had to do another rambling because some Antis got their panties in a twist.
After posting my very clearly tagged Zutara headcanons last night, I saw a post in the Zutara tag this morning where some Antis were ranting about their usual nonsense.
I would've just blocked and moved on, but something caught my attention about the post. I realized what they were talking about was very likely a reference to my post from last night.
I don't remember all the details (I did end up blocking them), but the crux of their complaint was that Zutara shippers steal Kataang dynamics or something. Specifically, they were calling out a recent post about Katara and Zuko traveling around helping people (which I talked a lot about in my post, so that's why I think it was me they were calling out) and that that is exclusively a Kataang thing that I stole and applied to Zutara. Also, someone in the comments had added that, if Zuko ever did go around helping people it would only be with Mai.
There was also a lot of whining about seeing Zutara stuff when they were looking for Kataang. As if I hadn't clearly tagged my post as Zutara and even used the word within the first few sentences to let the reader know what the post was about.
(For pity's sake, moderate your tags or skip over something with a tag you don't like! It's not difficult!).
But back to the main argument that Zuko and Katara wouldn't travel around helping people together and that that is exclusive to Kataang.
That is absolute bullshit.
First off, it was a headcanon of mine and I can headcanon what I damn well please (as can everybody else).
Secondly, what even is that argument they were making? Did they completely ignore the fact that both Zuko and Katara are good-hearted, helpful people who are trying to make the world a better place? We see numerous instances in canon of them helping others for the sole reason that it's just their nature to do so. In fact, if anything, they are more likely to seek out people to help out of pure altruism than Aang, who usually just sort of stumbles across people in trouble and helps because it's his job as Avatar.
(I'm not insulting Aang. I'm just saying that he's more likely to goof off and avoid getting involved in something if he thinks it's not serious enough, whereas Katara and Zuko are more likely to leap at opportunities to be helpful).
A third reason this is ridiculous is that Aang doesn't own a monopoly on doing good or helping the world. Zuko was already planning to make changes to heal the damage the Fire Nation caused. He's an "idealist with a pure heart and unquestionable honor." Do the Antis really think he would sit around on his ass while there are orphans to feed and towns to rebuild and justice to be restored? Also, why would Katara not be out there doing her all to help the world regardless of whether Aang is involved or not? Katara "never turns her back on people who need [her]" so I doubt she'd let anyone decide for her whether she travels around to fix people's problems.
I could go on and on about why this Anti-Zutara argument was stupid, but I've addressed the main points.
So, I'll say this one last time. If you dislike Zutara, read the damn tags and avoid the post you don't want to see. Don't whine about it and make up nonsensical arguments for your faux outrage. Leave Zutara shippers alone and let us have our headcanons.
You already got your ship in Bryke's canon. Just let us enjoy our headcanons in peace.

Dr Yan is pissed off (again) because he doesn’t know where the fuck he’s going. His servant finds this hilarious. At that exact same moment, in another universe far away, Xiao Xingchen also doesn’t know where the fuck he’s going, but that’s because he’s blind and has lost his bearings. Xue Yang could help him but he finds it way too funny watching the daozhang bounce off trees.
In part 46, Yu Mingye is on a bridge with Goddess Zuo
In part 48, Gao Wei almost dies

Which one of you would you say has the greater sense of "evil aesthetic"?
Well, I’m not at all sure of Melkor’s sense of “aesthetic” in general, so it would probably be me. Melkor is all about brute strength. And his decoration style is evil in the sense of no one wanting to look at it. Aesthetics are my department. When it comes to the evil side of it, I like crimson and black clothes, dark rooms with only candles for light, tapestries that show off our most evil deeds, working my way up to torture and other evil deeds (what’s the fun if you can’t scare them first by telling them what you will do or making them watch others go first).
Then again, Melkor did a perfect job with the design of Angband. The outside is pure terror for enemies brought before its gates. Melkor just doesn’t handle the details quite as well as I do.

redbayly replied to your post “There is one thing I've been wondering about An Evil Cradling. The...”
Actually, the first syringes were possibly invented by the Romans as early as the 1st century AD. So you have even more justification for using them.
Hey yeah I meant the invention of the first recognisably modern syringe. A metal and glass sort of affair that could be reliably used for intravenous injections, not just a crude feather quill and bladder pump contraption. So while I’m perfectly aware that the concept of a syringe has existed for millennia, I really was referring to the more modern iteration. Thanks for your contribution though.
