Modern Sources of Devotion to Saint Joseph
Quemadmodum Deus; promulgated by Pope Pius X in 1870, this document declares Joseph as Protector of the Universal Church.
Quamquam pluries; promulgated by Pope Leo XIII in 1889, encourages Josephine devotion and includes the Ite ad Joseph, to be prayed at the end of the Rosary.
Bonum sane; promulgated by Benedict XV in 1920, which encourages devotion to Saint Joseph on Wednesdays, during the month of March, and as a model for the preparation of the art of dying. This one is only available in Italian and Latin at the moment.
Redemptoris custos; promulgated by Pope John Paul II in 1989, this document celebrated the 100th anniversary of Quaquam pluries and suggested Joseph's self-sacrifice as an alternative to patriarchal rights as a model for fatherhood.
Patris corde; promulgated by Pope Francis in 2020, this document celebrated the 150th anniversary of Quemadmodum Deus and declared 2021 to be the Year of Saint Joseph.
Catecheses on Saint Joseph; given by Pope Francis from 2021-2022, as part of the Year of Saint Joseph, Pope Francis gave several addresses detailing different aspects of Joseph's life and character. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.

dog breeds:
Labradors are a classic kind of dog.
Cocker spaniels are very different but also classic, and I think they're cute.
Terriers! Is this partly because of Snowy from Tintin? yes.
Newfoundlands are BIG and FLUFFY and I appreciate this.
Beagles because the only dog I've taken care of long-term was a beagle. She IS loud and she IS an inveterate food thief but I love her anyway <3
Saints:
Mary, Mother of God. Of course she's at the top of the list. She's Our Lady.
Saint Joseph is equally clearly next! Most valiant, most humble, most obedient, guardian of virgins, protector of family life, model of laborers, patron of the dying... Chaste Guardian of the Virgin and Foster-Father of the Son of God.
St. Mary Magdalene - I don't know if I exactly have a special devotion to her, but I do love remembering her life. Model of penitents and one of the holiest and most beloved of Christ's followers. (I do also adhere to the belief that she is the same person as Mary sister of Lazarus; this is a long-standing tradition, and it makes sense to me.)
St. Alphonsus Liguouri - his month's worth of daily meditations for Adoration are beautiful and have made him familiar to me, even though I know very little about his life. (He also wrote a set of prayers/reflections for the Stations of the Cross that a lot of parishes use.)
St. Frances of Rome - my confirmation saint, a 14-century Roman noblewoman who was wife and mother over a large household, and founded a religious order for widows after her husband's death. Is the patron saint of automobile drivers, because an angel is said to have lighted the way for her when she went out on charitable works at night. I love how well she followed God while fulfilling her duties in the world.
Secret sixth spot (because Our Lady's spot is hardly information): Blessed Herman the Cripple, 11th-century Benedictine polymath who wrote Salve Regina, the Advent and Christmas Marian antiphon Alma Redemptoris Mater, and Veni Sancte Spiritus. If you ask me, that alone should qualify him for canonization, but I suppose his cause is waiting for more posthumous miracles.

TASK 002: Vicente as... the son of Apollo
Apollo is the god of many things, including: music, poetry, art, oracles, archery, plague, medicine, sun, light and knowledge. Apollo is alternately referred to as the God of Light and the God of Truth and served as an intermediary between the gods and men.
Apollo is the ideal of the kouros, which means he has a beardless, athletic and youthful appearance. He is also an oracular god as a patron of Delphi and could predict prophecy through the Delphic Oracle Pythia.
The origin of the name Apollo is still not properly understood. Many Greeks seem to have supposed that it stands for “destroyer,” but this was only one of the many suggestions (“redemptory,” “purifier,” “assembler,” “stony”). Modern scholars disagree with most of them, with the majority linking Apollo’s name to the Greek word apella which means “a sheepfold,” and which may suggest that Apollo was originally merely a protector of the flocks and herds.

SAINT OF THE DAY (September 25)

St. Hermann Contractus was born on 18 July 1013 at Altshausen (Swabia) with a cleft palate and cerebral palsy.
He is said to have had spina bifida, a birth defect in which there is incomplete closing of the spine and the membranes around the spinal cord during early development in pregnancy.
Based on the evidence, however, more recent scholarship indicates Hermann possibly had either amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or spinal muscular atrophy.
As a result, he had great difficulty moving and could hardly speak.
It was an immense difficulty for him to learn to read and write. However, he persisted and his iron will and remarkable intelligence were soon manifested.
Upon discovering the brilliance of his son’s mind, his father, Count Wolverad II, sent him at the age of seven to live with the Benedictine monks on the island of Reichenau in Southern Germany.
He lived his entire life on the island, taking his monastic vows in 1043.
Students from all over Europe flocked to the monastery on the island to learn from him, yet he was equally as famous for his monastic virtues and sanctity.
Hermann chronicled the first thousand years of Christianity. He was a mathematician, an astronomer, and a poet.
He was also the composer of the Salve Regina and Alma Redemptoris Mater – both hymns to the Virgin Mary.
He died on the island on 24 September 1054 at the age of 41.
The Roman Catholic Church beatified him in 1863.
