I’m so excited! I came home from England and was met with some delightful news. Refuge for Masterminds one Detroit RWA booksellers best award. Lovely because it’s voted on by librarians and booksellers. Completely unexpected because this is the third book in the series. I’m so happy. The girls of Kathleen Baldwin's Stranje House series really know how to handle themselves! How would you get away if you were caught by the enemy?

Not only are the Stranje House series novels by Kathleen Baldwin gorgeous looking but so are the stories behind the covers! I rarely get to describe the actual tale of the books I read as beautiful but this series is truly made of gems. I love the characters, an abundant amount of strong female heroines (because lets be real, only one kick butt lady is never enough) and plenty of charming smarmy gents fully accepting of these women's strength while still owning their own. I love the set up of the books, each unusual girl getting the spotlight of a whole book of their own to tell their story. And I love the writing! Fast paced and filled with romance and action but also so poetic and charming itself. If you have not given the Strange House series a try yet, it is the only recommendation I ask you to take from my entire account! I saw this lovely horse with a black ostrich plume on his head. So 1814! Thought you might enjoy seeing it. Plumes were a big deal in the Regency era. Carriage horses were adorned with them. Ladies wore them in their hair to evening events. Lady Jane, heroine of Refuge for Masterminds, hides her lock picks in her ostrich plumes. I finished Refuge for Masterminds by Kathleen Baldwin and it was So. Freaking. Good! Every book in the Stranje House series raises the stakes and takes me on a heart racing adventure I don't want to end. I want to be each character I read that's how real and endearing and amazing these 'unusual girls' are. I especially loved Jane's story because I felt her pain and struggles so deeply my eyes actually welled up with tears! (And a few even spilled over near the end) If you want to read something fantastic and empowering, give the Stranje House series a try.
