As my third cosplan, I go (again) for something without visual reference. It is no secret that I don’t want to bother with screen accuracy and not resembling the actors.
So yeah. I’m going to be the mean podcast guy from regency era - Jonah Magnus himself, trying to use historically accurate ways of construction.
My partner is into reenactment and historical balls, so I wanted to accompany her. I don’t feel comfortable wearing female dresses so I was decided to go for a men’s costume anyway. Why not connect it with cosplaying of my favourite problematic gay?
I still need to figure out what material am I going to use (mostly cotton but I’m thinking about a wool blend, similar to the one I used for my Darkling costume).
Notice the completely historically inaccurate waistcoat embroidery. Reportedly, the waistcoats used to be pretty wild, though. So I hope it can be forgiven.

Rediscovered the massive amounts of dopamine/serotonin that Making A Thing generates, and now l am making:
Anders Cosplay
Very delicate crocheted lace trim
Tunisian crochet sampler blanket
AND I'm still very actively planning out an entire Regency gentleman's/Temeraire aviator's wardrobe - I'm getting all the patterns I need for my birthday in March

Note
your regency sailor moon dress is soso cool, you look so pretty! I'm always so impressed by people who sew entire dresses its insanely cool to me
Thank you!
I will now explain how I did it.
Tumblr media
the above pattern is the original pattern I was given by my friend Sofie, and the reversed extended part is the adjustments I made in order to make it fit my bust (you need to extend it vertical more that horizontal).
I made two layers, the sheer chiffon layer and the opaque cream satin. I made the sleeves out of the same pattern and then using hexagons folded them into points which I arranged underneath the neckline bias and machine sewed on like this:
Tumblr media
I recommend using hand felling to finish the seams on the inside, but I used French seams to finish the sleeves and arm scythes. I ended up hand finishing the inside of the neckline because I didn't want it showing on the outside, this was meant to be a more historically accurate version of the serenity dress.
Then I added a waistband the size of my waist and onto the waistband pleated 4m of both the cream fabric and chiffon (I pleated about 1m into 15cm either side of the back of the dress, and distributed the rest equally to taste in the front).
I decided the waistband was too thick, and shortened it, and then added a pink waistband that I handsewed on for the effect I wanted. Here's after I hemmed both the inner and outer layer of the skirt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I then used made it lace up in the back using ties that extended from the neckline so it came together in the back like this:
Tumblr media
I then used hot glue to customise these shoes and made a matching bag out of scrap and pearl chain I found in a charity shop that I also used to make some jewellery

I also ordered a parasol, gloves, and Kanekalon (to make the braids) from amazon to complete the look! My hair is my own save for the buns and braids on the pigtails. I was going to a ball, I didn't particularly want to be dealing with the mess of a wig so I went for extensions.

happy dancing!

My friend threw a Pride & Prejudice bday party over the weekend, bc she turned “27, with no money, no prospects, a burden to her parents, and frightened.” 🫖 🧐
I went as Mr Darcy, in that famous scene where he becomes a vampire.
(Also waistcoats are SO AMAZING, they’re comfy and flattering and have a natural pocket for storing secret letters??? Regency women were robbed, truly)

ART AND ARTIFICE
Park Jimin’s whirlwind fairytale of an inaugural season in London is abruptly ended when his older sibling passes away, forcing him to return to the country. His release from a summer of mourning coincides with the arrival of Mr Kim Taehyung, whose freethinking Romantic notions chafe against Jimin’s well-mannered upbringing. Can Mr Kim’s natural charisma win over the pragmatic debutant... even when truths are finally revealed?
Rating: T No warnings apply Complete at 70k!!

Ok let's do the research thing for this dress
Tumblr media
We've already got the basic shape down, the fringe is correct, the buns less so but I won't be wearing a wig, I'll be using my natural hair (black) instead with a hairpiece to fake a bun because I don't have the money for a lace front right now and we can do cosplay stuff with this dress later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This translucent fabric pictured here works perfectly as an overlay, I'll be using chiffon
The gold van dyke points will replace the moons, because I can't really find historical precedence for them and I'm not willing to cause a fight.
I saw these double puffed sleeves on an evening gown pattern that I think mimic the spiral pattern on serenity's sleeve perfectly, so I'll be utilising those.
I can't find much historical precedence for the bow on the back (if I do I'll update) so for now I'll simply be making a pink sash and making the bow detachable so I can use the dress for cosplay purposes later, and historic reenactment purposes this time.
I ordered 6m ivory satin, 6m ivory chiffon, 1m gold satin, 2m pink chiffon, because this isn't a campfire reenactment I can use passable polyester (I'm on a budget) so the fabric cost me ~£45
