Empty Relations: Understanding the concept of relations where no element of a set is related to any element of another set.
Universal Relations: Learning about relations where every element of a set is related to every element of another set.
Trivial Relations: Delving into the simplest form of relations that only relate to the identical pairs.
Reflexive Relations: Understanding relations where every element is related to itself.
Symmetric Relations: Exploring relations where if one element is related to another, the second element is also related to the first.
Transitive Relations: Learning about relations where if one element is related to a second, and the second to a third, then the first is related to the third.
Equivalence Relations: Discovering relations that are reflexive, symmetric, and transitive.
Equivalence Classes: Understanding the partition of a set into disjoint subsets where each subset is an equivalence class.
To ensure comprehensive understanding, the course provides practice questions from diverse sources such as NCERT Textbook exercises, NCERT Examples, Board’s Question Bank, RD Sharma, and NCERT Exemplar. You can download the PDF of assignments within the course for additional practice.
2. Functions
The second part of the course focuses on functions, including:
One to One and Onto Functions: Understanding functions where each element of one set is paired with a unique element of another set, and functions that map elements from one set onto every element of another set.
Composite Functions: Learning how to combine two functions to form a new function.
Inverse of a Function: Exploring how to find the function that reverses the effect of the original function.
Similar to the relations segment, this part also includes practice questions from various reputable sources. The assignments are designed to reinforce your understanding and are available for download within the course.

Studying Tips from a Bad Student
Print out your syllabus.
Carry it with you.  Highlight readings when they are assigned and cross them off as you complete them.
Put in the dates of all your assignments the first day of class.  Make special note of overlapping assignments/exams.  3 midterms and 2 papers due during the same week?  Better to know 2 months in advance instead of 2 days.
Pick 1 office hour for each class that works with your schedule.
I never ever went to office hours before becoming an adult.  Honestly, I hate commuting, and I don’t like spending my free time on campus.  So if I’m going to attend tutorials or office hours, there better be a damn convenient time for me to go.
Pick one time for each professor that you feel like you don’t mind attending, and highlight/write down that information where it’s easily accessible to you.  Do this during the first week of classes.
If you can’t find a regular office hour time that works for you, immediately contact your prof or TA to ask how they feel about e-mailed questions or scheduled appointments for when you need help.  Once you hear back with their alternative, make note of it in that same accessible place so you know what your options are when you have questions.
Take notes by hand.
I type way faster than I can write, and I’m sure a lot of you are the same.  This is partly because your brain isn’t processing what you’re writing down in the same way as when you physically write it out. Trust me, it makes a difference.
Also, I found that if I handwrite notes, I am more likely to go back and look at them again later on.  What I like to do is write the notes out in class, and then review them either that night or the following day and highlight, bold things, doodle relevant icons, generally make them look pretty.  That way, you’re reviewing them but it’s also fun.  Spend some time before the semester starts to get a pen you like to write with, and maybe some coloured highlighters and post-it notes.  Interesting things are easier to keep looking at.
Don’t write out exactly what’s on the slide.
First off, if your professor isn’t the type to post slides before/after a lecture, ask if that is a possibility.  There isn’t always time to write everything down during lecture, so it helps if you are able to fill in the information you missed after class.  If you don’t want to ask in person, an email is usually okay.
Listen to what is being said in relation to the points on the slide.  Usually, what’s written on the slide doesn’t even make that much sense, because it’s only enough information for your professor to remember what they wanted to say.  Or it’s written in a way that is unclear to you, so you might want to word it differently so you understand it during review.
Once you get the main point of what you’re suppose to learn, write it down in your own words.  When studying, you can compare your own notes to the posted lecture slides.  See if they still make sense when compared to each other.  Flag things that don’t make sense, so you can ask for clarification during office hours.
Block time.
Plan time every day for school work, even if nothing is due.  It doesn’t have to be much.  Maybe 45 minutes on weekdays, and 2 hours on Saturdays and Sundays.**I’m taking 2 classes (and working 37 hours a week) right now, so obviously if you’re taking 8 classes you’ll need a little more than 45 minutes a day lmao.
Stick to it; hold it in high priority.  Avoid making plans during your blocked time as much as possible.  For example, if you have Saturdays blocked from 11am to 1pm, and your friend wants to have lunch at 12:30, ask to reschedule for after 1pm.  It might not shock you that this isn’t a deal breaker in most cases.
Plan leisure time.
Do your friends typically like to go out on Friday nights?  Do you like to play video games or watch a show during a certain time of the week?  Remove those time-slots from the equation (i.e. Friday from 8pm to Saturday at 11am no longer exist in your schedule).
Plan your blocked time around that.  That way, you never have to feel guilty about having fun during that time, because it wasn’t available for schoolwork in the first place. **obviously do this in moderation.  Don’t block off 10am-10pm every day for dicking around, or you won’t have time for anything else.
Plan to procrastinate.
If you are an avid procrastinator like me, plan time for it.  One thing I learned quickly about functioning as an adult is to plan everything.  E V E R Y T H I N G.  If you don’t plan for it, it’s either
a) not happening, or b) happening anyway and fucking up your whole schedule.
So start homework and assignments way early.  I was terrible at estimating time.  Things I thought would take me 25 minutes usually ended up taking me 2 hours.  Dinner plans I thought would end at 8pm ended up lasting until 10pm.  But only finishing 30% of what you planned to get done isn’t the end of the world when you started 2 weeks earlier than you normally would.  You have more blocked time tomorrow.   **don’t let this happen every day.  As I mentioned, your blocked time should take priority over everything else as a general rule.
Print off assignment criteria.
Nothing pisses me off like losing marks on technicalities.  The layout of your arguments wasn’t in the right order.  Your essay only hit 3 of the 5 points it was meant to.  You cited in MLA instead of APA format.  You were mean to include information from a list of specific sources, not ones that you found in the database yourself.  None of that is an indication of whether you understood the material or not.
So before you start,
print the criteria, and read it thoroughly.
Read it again, this time highlighting things you feel are important to hit.
Most importantly, keep it next to you any time you are working on your assignment.  Refer back to it often, especially if you feel stuck or run into an obstacle.
When you’re done, check off the highlighted instructions as you confirm that you’ve met them.

Week 9// How to land yourself a sweet Job that you might actually enjoy—A complete Beginner’s guide
As much as I wish I could’ve been born a trust-fund baby, I have accepted the fact that I am—and always will be—an average Joe(sephina) who, just like most of the world’s inhabitants, needs a stable career to make an honest living. Not that a job(s) should ever consume the entirety of your existence, acquiring one is a very important aspect of life and the ability to do so with polish and vigor is a skill every working-class citizen should refine.
That being said, I curated an in-depth guide explaining the basic necessities required to land the job you desire
I have organized each section for different levels of preparedness. You may skip to the sections that are most relevant to your current informational needs:
Section 1: Where to begin?
Section 2: Creating a Resume & Cover letter
Section 3: Job Hunting Tools
Section 4: Interview Prepping & Tips.
Section 1. Where to begin, you ask? If you don’t know what career area you want to pursue yet, start here:
1.      Make a list of your strengths. If that doesn’t come naturally to you, ask a friend or trusted co-worker their opinion.
2.     Evaluate Your Past to Avoid a Dead End. Ask yourself some questions help you clarify your feelings about previous jobs or other professional experiences so you can look for similar or different characteristics in the future.
3.     Talk to People to Learn What Your Dream Job Is. Start taking some time to request and schedule informational interviews with people in the fields you’re interested in to learn about their career paths and get advice. Ask about their job, their professional past and aspirations, and the industry. Be sure to prepare questions ahead of time.
4.     Take Classes First, Figure Out What Career You Want Later. Try something new whenever the opportunity presents itself. Take online classes, attend workshops, read books, and watch YouTube tutorials. By taking these chances, you may find out that you’re really into UX design, digital marketing, Python programming—or something else entirely!
5.     Consider What Work Environment You Need. Are people in the workplace you’re considering competitive with one another or collaborative? Are they friends outside of the office? Do they work as a team or on their own? Can people work remotely or are they expected to work in the office? What is the work-life balance like? What are the salary expectations?
6.     Do What Makes You Happy (Even If You Don’t Know What That Means for a Career Yet). Think about what truly interests you, not what necessarily sounds the most lucrative or high-powered on paper. Try to pin down those things that engage you in a such a way that you’re always able to muster at least a spark of passion about them and use those interests to guide you toward an applicable career path.
Section 2.  Ready to start applying? First thing’s first—create a RESUME! (and cover letter)
1.      Start by choosing the right resume format. There are 3 commonly used formats depending on which is right for you: Chronological, Functional, or a combination.
A chronological resume format places the professional history section first and is a good option if you have a rich professional work history with no gaps in employment.
The functional resume format emphasizes the skills section and is a good option if you are switching industries or have some gaps in your work history.
The combination resume format is a good option if you have some professional experience, where both skills and work history are equally important.
2.     Include name and contact information. Your resume should begin with your name and contact information including your email address and phone number. You have a choice about whether or not to include your mailing address. Your name should be highly visible at the top of your resume with a bolded or larger font than the rest of the document, but no more than a 14-point size. You might also include a link to your online portfolio if you are applying to creative positions, for example.
3.     Add a resume summary or objective. After your contact information, you have the option to include either a resume summary or objective statement. An objective statement quickly explains your career goals and is a good choice for those with limited professional experience, such as recent college or high school graduates. A resume summary is a short statement that uses active language to describe your relevant work experience and skills.
4.     List your soft and hard skills. Take a moment to consider which skills make you a great fit for the job. Review the job description and highlight keywords that you have had proven success with in the past. Consider both hard (technical) and soft (interpersonal) skills, as well as transferable skills you can use when changing careers or industries. Create a skills section with the keywords that are relevant to the employer. List any required skills like certifications or licenses first.
5.     List your professional history with KEYWORDS. Write your professional history section in reverse-chronological order. Start with your most recent job and provide a short description including the company name, time period in which you were employed, your job title and a few key achievements during your time at the company. You might also include relevant learnings or growth opportunities you experienced while employed there. Use keywords from the job description. Similar to your skills section, you should also include information from the job description in your job history bullets. This is pretty important given auto-filtering many companies now use to sort through resumes. Be brief in your summaries. Only like key achievements. Use action verbs. Some examples include “developed,” “saved,” “drove” and “managed.”
6.     Include an education section. An education section will be especially valuable if you have limited work experience (such as recent college or high school graduates) or if you are transferring to a new industry. You can include information such as:
Relevant coursework
Grade point average (if above 3.5)
Participation in clubs or organizations
Leadership positions held
Awards, achievements or certifications
When writing your education section, you should include the name of the institution, dates of attendance and your degree or area of study.
7.      Consider adding optional sections. If you have significant white space on your resume, consider adding an “achievements” or interests section. This can help supplement a shorter resume, especially for those with limited work and educational experience. Makes sure that the achievements and interests you list support your career goals and are relevant to potential employers.
8.     Format your resume:
Make your font between 10 and 12-point size.
Select a font that is clean and easy to read like Arial or Helvetica; avoid stylized fonts.
Make sure your margins are 1 to 1.5 inches.
Make your name and section headers bold or slightly bigger in font size (no more than 14 points).
Use bullet points when listing several different pieces of information, like under your education and professional history sections.
9.     Proofread your resume!!
10.   Tailor your resume for each position you apply for. It’s important to revise your resume to tailor it to each position you apply for. For each job, adjust the keywords in the skills section so that it’s a great fit for what the employer needs. You should also change what you emphasize in the professional history and educational experiences sections depending on what’s listed in the job description.
11.    Create a Cover Letter! A cover letter is a document sent with your resume to provide additional information on your skills and experience.  The letter provides detailed information on why you are qualified for the job you are applying for. Don’t simply repeat what’s on your resume -- rather, include specific information on why you’re a strong match for the employer’s job requirements. Think of your cover letter as a sales pitch that will market your credentials and help you get the interview. As such, you want to make sure your cover letter makes the best impression on the person who is reviewing it.  A cover letter typically accompanies each resume you send out. Employers use cover letters as a way to screen applicants for available jobs and to determine which candidates they would like to interview. If an employer requires a cover letter, it will be listed in the job posting. Even if the company doesn’t ask for one, you may want to include one anyway.
Section 3.  Let the HUNT begin!
Some useful tools for finding job opportunities:
1.       Networking. It's known as the hidden job market: Many of the best jobs are never advertised. They are filled by candidates who learn of them by word of mouth from friends, former colleagues, and ex-bosses. You can join professional associations, attend events for graduates of your school, connect with professionals who work in your field, and take every chance you get to meet up, in person or online, with others in your field.  Various online sites such as LinkedIn allow you to broaden your network to include friends of friends. The bigger your network, the more likely you'll find out about new opportunities.
2.     Referrals. Some employers offer incentives to their employees for referring a successful candidate to the company. It's a win-win situation for everyone. You get a new job, and your contact gets a finder's fee for attracting a top-notch employee.
3.     Job Boards and Career Websites. Many state governments provide job boards and job banks that can be accessed by all. You can also use job search engines or any of a vast number of career-related websites that post job openings, such as Monster.com, Google for Jobs, CareerBuilder, and Indeed. Many other databases specialize in freelance and contract work, including People Per Hour, Upwork, Simply Hired, and Crowded.
4.     Job Fairs. Job fairs are often targeted toward specific industries, although some job or recruitment fairs are more generalized. The promotional material will include a list of the organizations that will be represented.  Investigate any companies that interest you, bring a batch of resumes and business cards, and get ready to sell yourself. Consider any conversations with recruiters as mini-interviews that can set you apart from other applicants. Some organizations may even offer on-site interviews to candidates that match their requirements.
5.     Company Websites. If you already have your dream employer in mind, go directly to the career section of the company's website. If you track openings on its site, there's a chance you'll find just the opportunity that you've been waiting for.  Create a list of employers that you'd like to work for and visit their websites often.
6.     Headhunters and Recruiters. If you're looking for some professional help in your job search, headhunters and recruitment agencies can help.  Many organizations hire through recruitment agencies to streamline the hiring process. Headhunters actively recruit individuals to fill specific vacancies.  Payment is based on commission. Make sure you know up front whether you or the company is paying it.\
7.     Temping or Internships. Temporary employment and short-term contracts often lead to permanent positions. It's a great way to get a foot in the door or at the very least provide you with useful business contacts to call upon in the future.  Many recruitment agencies can assist with locating temporary or casual positions and contract work.
Internships are a great choice for students who are just graduating from college. The job placement services of many schools connect their students with opportunities.  If you're just starting out and you can afford it, volunteering can be a great way to gain valuable industry contacts.
Section 4. Lions and Tigers and INTERVIEWS, Oh My!
Here are some tips for how to prepare for a job interview:
1.      Carefully examine the job description. During your prep work, you should use the employer’s posted job description as a guide. The job description is a list of the qualifications, qualities and background the employer is looking for in an ideal candidate. The more you can align yourself with these details, the more the employer will be able to see that you are qualified. The job description may also give you ideas about questions the employer may ask throughout the interview.
2.     Consider why you are interviewing and your qualifications. Before your interview, you should have a good understanding of why you want the job and why you’re qualified. You should be prepared to explain your interest in the opportunity and why you’re the best person for the role.
3.     Do your research on the company and the selected position. Researching the company you’re applying to is an important part of preparing for an interview. Not only will it help provide context for your interview conversations, but it will also help you when preparing thoughtful questions for your interviewers.  Researching the company and role as much as possible will give you an edge over the competition. Not only that, but fully preparing for an interview will help you remain calm so that you can be at your best. Here are a few things you should know before you walk into your interview:
Research the product or service the company offers
Research the job position and understand all the requirements and responsibilities that go with it.
Research the company culture.
4.     Consider your answers to common interview questions. While you won’t be able to predict every question you’ll be asked in an interview, there are a few common questions you can plan answers for. You might also consider developing an elevator pitch that quickly describes who you are, what you do and what you want. You should also prepare to discuss your salary expectations, just in case. Common interview questions include:
“why do you want to work here?”
“what interests you about this role?”
“what are your greatest strengths/weaknesses?”
5.     Practice your speaking voice and body language. It’s important to make a positive and lasting impression during the interview process. You can do this by practicing a confident, strong speaking voice and friendly, open body language. While these might come naturally to you, you might also want to spend time performing them with trusted friends or family or in front of a mirror. Pay special attention to your smile, handshake and stride. If you need to, search up some resources on how to deliver a proper handshake, how to introduce yourself properly, and proper interview etiquette for more information. The internet is littered with tons of great information on these subjects.
6.     Prepare several thoughtful questions for the interviewer(s). Many employers feel confident about candidates who ask thoughtful questions about the company and the position. You should take time before the interview to prepare several questions for your interviewer(s) that show you've researched the company and are well-versed about the position. Some examples of questions you could ask include:
“What does a typical day look like for a person in this position?”
“Why do you enjoy working here?”
“What qualities do your most successful employees have?”
“I've really enjoyed learning more about this opportunity. What are the next steps in the hiring process?”
7.     Conduct mock interviews. Just like public speaking, practicing interviews is the best way to relieve anxiety and improve your confidence. Practice may be tedious, but repeatedly experiencing the interview process will make you more comfortable and help you give the right impression.  If you have friends or family to help, conduct mock interviews as much as you can. If you don't have another person, practice your questions and answers out loud.
8.     Print hard copies of your resume. Most employers ask for digital copies of your resume with the application, but they may not have easy access to it during the interview itself. Having copies to present to multiple interviewers shows that you're prepared and organized. You should have at least three copies to provide for multiple interviewers, plus one for yourself to follow along.
9.     Prepare travel arrangements. Allow plenty of time to arrive for the interview, even if it means arriving much earlier than needed. Save the interview contact information just in case something happens out of your control that is causing you to be late. Search the interview location in advance to avoid hiccups.
10.    Sell Yourself. One of the biggest challenges in an interview is selling yourself. Most people are uncomfortable with this idea, but presenting yourself accurately and positively doesn't have to feel like a sale. The truth is that you do have professional skills and experiences that may set you apart from other applicants, so it's acceptable and expected for you to acknowledge them to your potential employer. When you prepare for a job interview, make note of your skills that relate to the role and think of how your experiences and abilities can contribute to the overall goals of the department and company. If you have metrics or stats to show your accomplishments or growth during your previous roles, they're a great help in selling yourself during the interview. For example, you may have increased sales by a certain percentage or increased social media engagement in your last position. Whatever accomplishments you have, don't be modest about sharing them during your interview. Your potential employer wants to know that you'll be the right fit and that you can deliver something special to the company.
11.    Get ready to follow up after the interview. After your interview, you should prepare to follow up with the employer. Doing so reminds the employer of your conversation, shows them you are genuinely interested in the position and gives you the opportunity to bring up points you forgot to mention. Here are a few steps you can follow when crafting a follow-up note:
In the first paragraph, mention the specific job title and thank your interviewer.
In the second paragraph, note the company's name as well as a conversation point and/or goal that seemed especially important to the person you spoke with. Connect that point to your experience and interests.
In the final paragraph, invite them to ask you any additional questions and close by saying you're looking forward to hearing back.
The process of getting a job may seem…yes, overwhelming, sure. It is tedious, but it’s also a fluid process that through practice and usage becomes like second nature. The most important focuses come down to having a strong resume & cover letter, networking, being calculated with your job searches, and presenting yourself confidently, professionally, and personably. Most of these things are already ingrained in us, we just need to take the time to hone them in and polish them up. Doing so only serves to benefit our own wellbeing in the long term.

Blog from Word (3rd June - 20th September 2019)
See below the blog I started on Microsoft word. This was due to me starting the blog and my project, before module data was released (i.e. information that we needed to record everything on tumblr).
3rd – 7th June 2019
This was the first week after exams finished. We were given the computing project presentation, along with previous project examples. This gave me an insight into what the third year consisted of. In addition, I was able to mentally start planning out my actions over the summer, which would aid me before I started my final year.
10th – 14th June 2019
Post the computing project introduction, I began my summer placement. To get a sense of the variety of project ideas, I asked multiple colleagues about their projects. The colleagues ranged in positions, from Software Developers to Database Administrators. The ideas were vast, for example: online vehicle registration, cinema ticket booking and educational software tools.
17th – 21st June 2019
In my spare time, I began exploring the internet for previous computer science projects. Sites I used include: https://1000projects.org/projects/cse-projects and  https://www.youtube.com/. When deciding which areas, I wanted to build my project on, I noticed I was gravitating towards ideas which encompassed my strengths and past modules. For instance, I studied ‘Algorithms and Data Structures’, and a project that interested me was a quiz application which tested fundamental mathematical knowledge and formulas.
24th – 28th June 2019
Towards the end of June, I began listing down a few project ideas which I would like to investigate further. The list did not contain anything concrete; it was quite diverse. This was so I could get a rough idea on where I could possibly delve deeper.
1st – 5th July 2019
At this stage, I had quite a lengthy list of Computer Science related final year projects. They were in no particular order. This list was primarily put in place so I could begin marking off which types of projects I wanted to do and vice versa. I further assisted myself by placing this data in a spreadsheet and labelling how confident I felt about a certain project (Green = Confident, Yellow = Unsure, Red = Not Confident).
8th – 12th July 2019
During this week I filtered my spreadsheet, so I could see all the ‘green’ and ‘yellow’ projects. For the  yellow project’s, I made a new column which contained actions I would have to take in order to prepare  for that project e.g. learn AngularJS. As for the green project’s, I felt as though I had the necessary skills to carry out a project successfully.
15th – 19th July 2019
I used this week to look through my yellow project list and retain those which had reasonable steps for a successful project. At this point, there were still many projects in my green list. Therefore, I settled this by taking the top 10  projects I may want to do. These 10 were determined by colour (i.e. green or yellow), how confident I was in completing a successful project with them and how interesting they were to me.
22nd – 26th July 2019
Towards the end of the July, I began planning for my ideation. I wanted to test out my newly acquired LaTex (Document Preparation System) knowledge, therefore I installed Texmaker (cross-platform open-source LaTeX editor) and started a new document. I made an ideation template using the information on the VLE and planned to commence work on it the following week.
29th – 2nd July/August 2019
As aforementioned, I generated a spreadsheet which enclosed project’s and their status in accordance to my skill set and interests. This spreadsheet facilitated my ideation, as I was able to select my contexts, techniques and initial ideas from it. This week was spent filling in my ideation template.
5th – 9th August 2019
I wanted to use this week to begin one of my selected projects. This was so I could put my skills into use and consolidate them. At this stage, I was still carrying out my summer placement at Servelec. At Servelec, one of the many software products we provided was a digital case management software, Mosaic. This was primarily used in the social care sector. I decided, after much research, I would try to build my own web-based, digital case management system.
12th – 16th August 2019
Research went into how I would go about building my project. This was primarily based off YouTube tutorials. The outcome I came to was building it locally, using Python (OOP language). More specifically, Django, a python web-framework. As I did not previously code in Django, I felt the need to start an introductory course on Udemy.
19th – 23rd August 2019
During this week, I completed the Django introductory Udemy course. This enabled me to grasp elementary Django expertise. As previously mentioned, I did this course so I could begin development on my digital case management web application. This was the tutorial playlist I followed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-FTlQ7Djqc. Although, it was for a blog, it was the initial steppingstone for my end goal.
26th – 30th August 2019
My project began taking shape. I had created my first app (many app’s were used to make up the overall web application – part of SoC). Although the web application was quite dull, functionally and visually, I completed the base code, which in turn serves as the fundamental component for the entire application.
2nd – 6th September 2019
This week I completed and submitted my ideation. It contained my contexts, techniques, inspirations and initial ideas. In addition, I finished another app: articles. My web application now displayed articles written through Django’s in-built administration url. I also learnt more in depth about Django concepts such as Models, Templates and Migrations.
9th – 13th September 2019
The Django tutorials are almost coming to an end. I finished implementing the last mini app: accounts. This app took care of individual accounts (including super users and normal users). In addition, it now meant articles were linked to their authors. Throughout the process of the tutorial, I was adding in my own additions. For example, my naming conventions were specific to case management.
16th – 20th September 2019
My Django playlist had now ended. Final videos included demonstrations on how to style the web application, and make it more aesthetically pleasing. In order to adhere to SoC (Separation of Concerns) principles, my CSS (Style.css) went in a different folder (assets) to the mini apps. Classes were assigned to various html elements, and these were corresponding to code given to them in Styles.css. I made my own changes to the CSS by integrating in bootstrap.

Tutorial - Week 7
Preparation Work
In preparation for this tutorial, we were supposed to start thinking about answers to the following question:
Should the government or government agencies collect and have access to your data for good purposes, or should citizens, .e.g you, have a right to privacy which stops them?
Personally, I think there needs to be a compromise on this issue; no level of identification would prevent many government systems from being able to run and would be a detriment to public safety. However too much surveillance becomes invasive and purely unnecessary - there becomes a point at which you know so much that it can be used as a means for control.
Tumblr media
The funny thing about all these supplied articles is that I had pretty much read them all when they came out anyway, as I’m already pretty privacy-oriented. However I will summarise the events and some of my thoughts on them:
2019 - Facial recognition to replace Opal cards (link)
Discussed in a previous article (here) on biometrics
Basically use your face to represent your identity and charge you
2019 - AFR facial recognition (link)
Goes through the numerous benefits of biometrics including missing people, security, crime and ‘smart cities’
Highlights the significant potential for abuse - mass surveillance & privacy, identity theft, etc
2019 - Australians accept government surveillance (link)
Demonstrates how citizens are ‘on the fence’ regarding the benefits vs dangers of increasing levels of government surveillance (note the survey was only 100 people)
Any further surveillance measures will probably result in people taking steps to protect their privacy more
2018 - NSW intensifies citizen tracking (link)
NSW policie and crime agencies to use the “National Facial Biometric Matching Capability"
System contains passport photos, drivers licenses
Government claims there will be restraint in their usage (with regards to certain crimes) and stated the benefits to public safety and prevention of identity theft
2017 - Benefits of Surveillance (from ‘intelligence officials) (link)
Discusses the issue of ‘proportionality’ in surveillance - the ratio between the total data collected and the actual usage of this data by intelligence agencies
Two main types of intelligence - tactical which is targeted at certain individuals, where as strategic is more targeted at information dominance (gathering as much as possible)
Hard to assess effectiveness of surveillance programs - agencies often ‘cherry pick’ figures that support their arguments
Surveillance differences between citizens and foreigners - a distinction exists in the US on the permissible levels of surveillance due to their constitutional rights
2015 - Australian Metadata retention (link)
I remember this one at the time; George Brandis (the attorney general at the time) made an absolute mockery of explaining this one
Basically legislating the storage of the details of the endpoints of every internet and phone communication
Even though you don’t know the contents of a communication necessarily, you can still extract a lot of data from this information alone
Main concerns relating to who would be able to access this information and how can the government secure it
2013 - Need for government surveillance (link)
Basically justifying the need for extended surveillance of citizens due to “new threat” of “home-grown” terror
With all these articles, I sort of understand the need for governments to update their surveillance capabilities with regards to the new technology available. However, I think there should be restrictions in place regarding this and constant transparent assessment of their effectiveness regarding the claims they make for their ‘necessity’.
Tutorial
I think Jazz was right in saying how ‘cooked’ we all were in the week 7 tutorial; honestly I can barely remember what even happened. I remember him going through and cracking the ‘blind’ buffer overflow challenge which was pretty cool. Basically he did a dump of the assembly code and searched for the win function; this was so we could get the address.
Then we could feed in a long string using cyclic (such that every 4 bytes is unique) which would cause a segmentation fault. This is because it is attempting to jump to an invalid (or not permitted) address; the fault message will display the address it faulted on which we can convert back to a set of 4 characters. This will give us the index in the string that the return address occurs at - we can then just dump the address of the win function we found earlier. Now hopefully in an exam the buffer wouldn’t be too far from the return address, however if it is it might be worth learning up how to write a quick program in Python to calculate the De Bruijn sequence for a set of characters!
We also went through some of the questions from the exam. I got the opportunity to go through and explain to the class how to determine the key length in question 12 of the mid-sem. You basically use a technique known as ‘Kasiski examination’; this involves searching for repeated phrases in the ciphertext and counting the distance between them. Then you are able to determine that the key word length must be a factor of this distance. If  you repeat it enough times (in particular I was looking at the ‘GAD’ and ‘GAZ’ phrases in the text) you are able to ascertain that the keyword length must be 6. (3 was technically possible, but just ‘more unlikely’)
There were some other interesting on-the-spot talks in class regarding security. Someone discussed how you can intercept all the packets on a network with an appropriate network adapter (or if you can get your card in ‘monitor mode’); (I think @comp6841lanceyoung) some of the implications from this are interesting. Another person gave a brief overview of how we can interpret an image to train an AI to break CAPTCHAs (@raymondsecurityadventures). The final one (@azuldemontana) gave a quite funny analogy of how eating Heinz Fiery Mexicans Beans for lunch is basically the same as using open-source software - you would only eat things that you know the ingredients, so why do we use closed source so much if we don’t know whats happening?
We sorta got distracted with so many other random security things we didn’t actually leave that much time for the actual case study. Basically what we did was brainstorm all the pieces of data we might consider are connected to our identity: name, address, phone no., social security, tax number, browsing history, message & call logs, location history, relationship history, etc. Then we went through each of them and debated as a class whether or not we thought the government should be allowed to collect and store this information.
I actually found it quite funny that people were arguing against the government having something basic like an address. There generally always comes a point in our lives where things outside our control happen that require government intervention and not knowing where you live makes it quite difficult for them to inform you or provide assistance. It might be about letting you know about changes to legislation, local building works, death of a loved one; not necessarily just about chasing up a crime.
I think that the major issue that civilians have against the government collecting this data boils down to two main issues. The first is misuse - that is, from the data being easily accessible across all government agencies without much evidence of a crime being committed. It also encompasses our mistrust in the government being able to store this data securely - if the data was leaked it may be used for identity theft, blackmail, etc and could haunt you for years. The second problem closely links to this and is the retention period - how long is it really necessary for them to keep this data for law enforcement purposes? You have to remember the longer it is kept the more prone it may be to misuse (i.e. hacked); I personally think a shorter retention period would probably make people less concerned.

It can be hard to remain on program when you don't have any person remaining prior to you assisting you to remember because of dates, even so, in the occasion that you consider soon after these guidelines, you will almost certainly find out accomplishment in on the internet courses.

How to Create Custom Pipe in Angular 13 Application
Tumblr media
Pipe tutorial for Angular 12; In this tutorial, we'll learn about Angular's default and custom pipes. Angular comes with a plethora of built-in Pipes that can help you solve a variety of programming issues while designing a single-page web application. We'll also learn how to build custom Angular Pipe from the ground up. Let's get started without further hesitation:
Angular 13 Pipe Example
- Working with Angular Pipes - Angular Built-in Pipes - Creating Custom Pipe in Angular
Getting Started
Pipes are incredibly important when it comes to managing data within interpolation " | ", and we'll talk about them in Angular. Pipes were once known as filters in Angular, but they are now known as Pipes. The letter | can be used to alter data. The syntax for the same can be found below. {{ i will become uppercase one day | uppercase }} Dates, arrays, texts, and integers are all acceptable inputs for pipes. | is used to separate inputs. Before being shown in the browser, the inputs will be transformed into the desired format. We'll take a look at a few pipe-related instances. We're attempting to show the given text in uppercase in the given example. You'll be able to do that with the use of pipes, as demonstrated below — The convertText variable is defined in the app.component.ts file - app.component.ts import { Component } from '@angular/core'; @Component({ selector: 'app-root', templateUrl: './app.component.html', styleUrls: }) export class AppComponent { convertText: string = "I Am Being Managed By Pipes"; } The following code section can be found in the app.component.html file. app.component.html {{convertText | lowercase}} {{convertText | uppercase}}
Angular Built-in Pipes
Angular Pipes allow you to rapidly recreate data in your Angular app. Angular has a built-in Pipes API that allows you to quickly change your data. You may also use it to make custom Pipes in your app. Let's take a look at some of the most helpful Angular Pipes. Built-in Angular Pipes - Async Pipe - Currency Pipe - Date Pipe - Slice Pipe - Decimal Pipe - Json Pipe - Percent Pipe - LowerCase Pipe - UpperCase Pipe
How to Use Built-in Pipes in Angular 13
Let's see how we may make advantage of the built-in Angular pipes. 1. Async Pipe When obtaining data in the form of observables, the Async pipe is regarded the best technique. The async pipe automatically subscribes to an Observable/Promise and returns the values delivered. {{ users.name }}   2. Currency Pipe The angled currency pipe allows you to convert numbers between different currencies. import { Component } from '@angular/core'; @Component({ selector: 'app-root', template: ` Currency Pipe {{ itemPrice | currency:'USD':true }} {{ itemPrice | currency:'EUR':true}} {{ itemPrice | currency:'INR' }} ` }) export class AppComponent { itemPrice: number = 5.50; }   3. Date Pipe In Angular, the date pipe is used to format the Date. import { Component } from '@angular/core'; @Component({ selector: 'app-root', template: ` Date Pipe {{ currentDate | date:'fullDate' }} {{ numDateFormat | date:'medium' }} {{ getYear | date:'yy' }} {{ getTime | date:'Hm' }} ` }) export class AppComponent { currentDate = Date.now(); numDateFormat = 1478496544151; getYear = 'Tue Dec 12 2018 11:20:18 GMT+0530'; getTime = 'Wed Jan 20 2019 12:20:18 GMT+0530'; }   4. Slice Pipe In Angular, the Slice pipe API creates a subset list or string. {{ users }}   5. Decimal Pipe In Angular, the Decimal pipe is used to format decimal numbers. CommonModule in Angular has issues with the Decimal Pipe API. import { Component } from '@angular/core'; @Component({ selector: 'app-root', template: ` Decimal Pipe {{myNum1 | number}} {{myNum2 | number}} ` }) export class AppComponent { myNum1: number = 7.4364646; myNum2: number = 0.9; }   6. Json Pipe The JSON pipe API allows an Angular app to expose an object as a JSON string. Behind the scenes, it complements the JSON.stringify function. {{ objectName | json }}   7. Percent Pipe In Angular, the Percent pipe API converts an integer to its percentage value. import { Component } from '@angular/core'; @Component({ selector: 'app-root', template: ` LowerCase & UpperCase Pipe A: {{numA | percent}} B: {{numB | percent:'4.3-5'}} ` }) export class AppComponent { numA: number = 0.349; numB: number = 2.4595; }   8. LowerCase & UpperCase Pipe In an Angular app, lowercase or uppercase pipes help format text to lower or upper case. import { Component } from '@angular/core'; @Component({ selector: 'app-root', template: ` LowerCase & UpperCase Pipe {{convertText | lowercase}} {{convertText | uppercase}} ` }) export class AppComponent { convertText: string = "I Am Being Managed By Pipes"; }
How to Create Custom Pipe in Angular 13
Let's look at how we can make a custom pipe now. Run the following command in Angular CLI to construct a custom pipe to count words: ng g pipe wordcount After running the command in Angular CLI, this is how it will look. ng g pipe wordcount # CREATE src/app/wordcount.pipe.spec.ts (199 bytes) # CREATE src/app/wordcount.pipe.ts (207 bytes) # UPDATE src/app/app.module.ts (433 bytes) This command will automatically generate the files wordcount.pipe.ts and wordcount.pipe.spec.ts, as well as update the app.module.ts file. app.module.ts import { BrowserModule } from '@angular/platform-browser'; import { NgModule } from '@angular/core'; import { AppComponent } from './app.component'; // Custom Pipe imported here by Angular CLI import { WordcountPipe } from './wordcount.pipe'; @NgModule({ declarations: , imports: , providers: , bootstrap: }) export class AppModule { } Now, utilizing the PIPE API service, let's construct a logic for word counting in a string in Angular. Use the code below to open the wordcount.pipe.ts file. import { Pipe, PipeTransform } from '@angular/core'; @Pipe({ name: 'wordcount' }) export class WordcountPipe implements PipeTransform { transform(value: any, args?: any): any { return value.trim().split(/s+/).length; } } app.component.ts import { Component } from '@angular/core'; // Usage of wordcount pipe within interpolation @Component({ selector: 'app-root', template: ` Word Counter Pipe in action below
{{ customText | wordcount }}
` }) export class AppComponent { customText: string = "Java is to JavaScript what car is to Carpet."; } I hope you will like the content and it will help you to learn How to Create Custom Pipe in Angular 13 Application If you like this content, do share. Read the full article
