5 Steps for Successful Cost Negotiation with a Housing Removal Company
Moving to a new location is an expensive and daunting task. Setting up the new place, bills, taxes all these eat up your budget. The cost of hiring a House Removal Company itself is pretty expensive. So to avoid the costs getting piled up beyond your comfort, let’s find out the steps you can take to negotiate the costs and save your budget.
Tumblr media
How to Negotiate with Cleaners and Movers?
Get Quotations from Multiple Firms
Having an approximate idea of the market cost is a smart and necessary move - not only does it ensure you are not overpaying for your services, but it also as a consumer provides you with bargaining power.
Try to find the prices and the services included by your local firms specifically, as you might have a greater chance to negotiate with the price as well. Search for multiple ‘Removal Companies near me' and keep them all as options until you find the perfect match.
Be Clear on Your Requirements
Sometimes we can get carried away and overwhelmed by the plethora of options that Cardiff Removal Companies provide. With the unparalleled amount of work that is involved in setting up a new place, it is almost impossible not to get carried away.
So be clear and concise with your requirements. Find tasks that can be completed by you or get alternate and cheaper sources to complete them for you. This might include cleaning, setting up electrical appliances, etc.
Highlight Mutual Advantages
An important step during negotiation is that the contract should satisfy both parties. It should help you as the customer in reducing the overall cost and also provide the cleaners and movers company to grow in their business. Be prepared for some compromises from your side as well, to get the better deal for your top priorities.
Compromise on Custom Needs for Best Costing
Anything custom-made costs more, and you shouldn't think ‘The movers near me provide so many custom options, so I should use them all to make the process convenient’. Instead, try to have a pick-and-choose approach and only select what you need.
If you are looking to save on your budget, the tasks that you get customized must be reduced. Customize the moving of precious and highly valued fragile items, but otherwise compromise on other such tasks which you can trust the company to do normally.
Flexibility with Moving Dates
The cost of moving during the off-season is significantly less than the peak season, try to schedule your move during the off-season.
Being flexible with your moving fates also provides you with greater bargaining and negotiating opportunities, you might also receive discounts and offers from the company to fill in the gaps of their schedule.
Final Conclusion
Moving to the USA to a new place is a significant step and a challenge, the new environment, procedures and the costs can drive you insane. Saving money whenever you can during the move helps you further along the way. If we are smart with money, we can save a big number!

The Art of Tree Removal: Nurturing Spaces Safely
Tree removal is a delicate yet essential task in maintaining our environment and safeguarding our surroundings. As arborists, we recognize the profound impact trees have on our ecosystem and the necessity of their careful management.
Beyond mere physical presence, trees contribute to air quality, habitat preservation, and aesthetic appeal. However, circumstances sometimes necessitate their removal. Whether due to disease, damage, or encroachment on infrastructure, the decision to remove a tree requires thoughtful consideration.
Safety stands as our paramount concern. Prior to removal, our team conducts a thorough assessment, evaluating risks and developing a meticulous removal strategy. Specialized equipment and techniques ensure precise execution while minimizing environmental impact.
Moreover, our approach extends beyond mere removal. We prioritize ecosystem preservation, striving to mitigate disruption and replenish greenery where possible. Through replanting initiatives and sustainable practices, we endeavor to uphold the vitality of our natural surroundings.
Communication remains integral throughout the process. We engage with property owners, fostering understanding and transparency regarding the necessity and methodology of tree removal.
In essence, tree removal Swansea embodies a delicate balance between preservation and pragmatism. By harmonizing environmental stewardship with practical necessity, we cultivate spaces that thrive in both safety and serenity. Through our conscientious efforts, we strive to ensure that every tree removal serves as a testament to our commitment to the health and vitality of our shared environment.

The thing with the Mari Lwyd, though, is that it's being... I don't know, 'appropriated' is the wrong word, but certainly turned into something it isn't.
Thing is, this is a folk tradition in the Welsh language, and that's the most important aspect of it. I feel partly responsible for this, because I accidentally became a bit of an expert on the topic of the Mari Lwyd in a post that escaped Tumblr containment, and I clearly didn't stress it strongly enough there (in my defence, I wrote that post for ten likes and some attention); but this is a Welsh language tradition, conducted in Welsh, using Welsh language poetic forms that are older than the entire English language, and also a very specific sung melody (with a very specific first verse; that's Cân y Fari). It is not actually a 'rap battle'. It's not a recited poem. It is not any old rhyme scheme however you want.
It is not in English.
Given the extensive and frankly ongoing attempts by England to wipe out Welsh, and its attendant cultural traditions, the Mari is being revived across Wales as an act of linguistic-cultural defiance. She's a symbol of Welsh language culture, specifically; an icon to remind that we are a distinct people, with our own culture and traditions, and in spite of everyone and everything, we're still here. Separating her from that by removing the Welsh is, to put it mildly, wildly disrespectful.
...but it IS what I'm increasingly seeing, both online and in real world Mari Lwyd festivals. She's gained enormous pop-culture popularity in recent years, which is fantastic; but she's also been reduced from the tradition to just an aesthetic now.
So many people are talking/drawing about her as though she's a cryptid or a mythological figure, rather than the folk practice of shoving a skull on a stick and pretending to be a naughty horse for cheese and drunken larks. And I get it! It's an intriguing visual! Some of the artwork is great! But this is not what she is. She's not a Krampus equivalent for your Dark Christmas aesthetic.
I see people writing their own version of the pwnco (though never called the pwnco; almost always called some variant on 'Mari Lwyd rap battle'), and as fun as these are, they are never even written in the meter and poetic rules of Cân y Fari, much less in Welsh, and they never conclude with the promise to behave before letting the Mari into the house. The pwnco is the central part to the tradition; this is the Welsh language part, the bit that's important and matters.
Mari Lwyd festivals are increasingly just English wassail festivals with a Mari or two present. The Swansea one last weekend didn't even include a Mari trying to break into a building (insert Shrek meme); there was no pwnco at all. Even in the Chepstow ones, they didn't do actual Cân y Fari; just a couple of recited verses. Instead, the Maris are just an aesthetic, a way to make it look a bit more Welsh, without having to commit to the unfashionable inconvenience of actually including Welsh.
And I don't really know what the answers are to these. I can tell you what I'd like - I'd like art to include the Welsh somewhere, maybe incorporating the first line of Cân y Fari like this one did, to keep it connected to the actual Welsh tradition (or other Welsh, if other phrases are preferred). I'd like people who want to write their version of the pwnco to respect the actual tradition of it by using Cân y Fari's meter and rhyme scheme, finishing with the promise to behave, and actually calling it the pwnco rather than a rap battle (and preferably in Welsh, though I do understand that's not always possible lol). I'd like to see the festivals actually observe the tradition, and include a link on the booking website to an audio clip of Cân y Fari and the words to the first verse, so attendees who want to can learn it ahead of time. I don't know how feasible any of that is, of course! But that's what I'd like to see.
I don't know. This is rambly. But it's something I've been thinking about - and increasingly nettled by - for a while. There's was something so affirming and wonderful at first about seeing the Mari's climb into international recognition, but it's very much turned to dismay by now, because she's important to my endangered culture and yet that's the part that everyone apparently wants to drop for being too awkward and ruining the aesthetic. It's very frustrating.

12th November 2023
I know some of you lovely people have been worried and have contacted mutuals to see if there is an update on my husband, so rather than have their inboxes clogged with asks i thought it best to update you whilst i have a spare moment.
Whilst hubby was in Swansea hospital he had an MRI and full body CT scan. The MRI showed a tumour on his frontal lobe that was 3.2cm long. This is classed as a major tumour. They advised that to have it treated in Wales we would have to relocate there and change address, which just wasn't feasible as our 8yo son still needs to go to school and it's better we come back to our home near London.
My Dad very kindly drove all the way to Wales to pick us up and drive us back, i wasnt in any fit state to drive so we had to abandon hubbys car at my MIL's.
Now that we are home we also learned that in hubbys seizures he broke his shoulder bone where the force of his muscles seizing was so strong the tendon ripped the bone in half. He also herniated 3 disks in his back, and has thankfully had osteopathy on those to help them heal.
We are now waiting to be seen by a Neurologist this week. Hubby is 99% likely to have brain surgery to remove the tumour. A biopsy on the tumour will then happen and if its found to be cancerous then he will have chemo and radiotherapy.
He's well in himself, and the short term memory loss/temporary dementia he was showing signs of have now eased thankfully. He's struggling with the broken shoulder as its his dominant arm, and will need surgery to fix it, but due to the severity of the tumour that takes precidence. I'd rather have a one armed living husband than a dead one with a mended arm.
Little Dude is holding up ok. He doesn't know it could be cancer and he doesnt even know what cancer is. We've told him Daddy has a lump in his brain that he will need an operation to remove, and might need some treatment afterwards to make sure it kills off the infection.
Ironically things i have been chasing for little dude medically for months finally got put into place this last week. In addition to his type 1 diabetes, he finally had his Asthma assessment and was confirmed to need an inhaler, and this week coming i finally have an appointment for him to be assessed for ADHD which i have been asking for him for years to be assessed.
So thats the update. I'm trying to stay positive but its a worrying time.

Chapter 17 is live: As Zee reemerges from depression, Crowley entices him to play piano—something Zee has mostly given up in his solitude. Neither of them expects the resultant euphoria. (Note: last section is explicit but skippable if that’s not your thing)
Fic description: Zee (Aziraphale) Marsh is a widowed hermit who secretly writes bestselling romance novels under the pseudonym Bella Swansea. His life is rigorously controlled until his new downstairs neighbor arrives. Anthony Crowley causes something to come alive in Zee that he hasn't seen in over twenty years, but Crowley brings with him some of his own very dark secrets. // Human AU, dark fic, E rating.
Chapter excerpt under the cut:
This was Zee on a whole different level of existence. His fingers flew over the keys, shoulders simultaneously rigid but loose. When he played a particularly abrupt chord, his curls shook as the vibrations went all through his body. He glanced up and down the piano as his hands moved from one end to another. Crowley had no idea how he managed to land on the right keys so exactly every single time. It sounded as if several people were playing simultaneously. If there were mistakes, he couldn’t have picked them out. The music was alive, pulsing in and out, soft and loud, fierce joy contrasting with pensive contentment.
Zee had said this was a shorter piece, but Crowley felt as if he had been swimming in notes for days by the time it came to an abrupt end. Zee sat back, removed his hands from the keys, and stretched them. He was breathing heavily. Crowley’s fingers, he suddenly realized, were digging deeply into Zee’s hips now, and he loosened his hold. Sucked in air. Let it out in a quiet, “Fuck.”
Turning to him, Zee ducked his head, shy. “I’m really out of practice. That was awful. I’m sorry.”
“No—Zee—don’t you dare,” Crowley sputtered. He peeled one hand from Zee’s hip and put it over his mouth. “That was the most incredible thing I’ve ever heard. I’ve heard piano played before and it was nothing like this. That was…raw and powerful and…and literally breathtaking. Jesus.”
“Oh,” Zee said as Crowley let go of his mouth. He did the most adorable pleased wiggle on the bench, and Crowley was nearly overwhelmed by the urge to bite into his smile. “I’m glad you liked it.”
Liked it? Crowley didn’t know it was possible to get aroused listening to classical music. Every single one of his thoughts right now were inappropriate.

the worst part of this was having to choose who i was gonna talk about how dare you /j
Story: Farewell, Fairwell
Character: Percival Fairwell (he/him)
(Synopsis: Darius Pembroke, a private detective in a version of 1908 Norwich where creatures of myth are commonplace, is hired by the Evans family to investigate a long time rival of his, Percival Fairwell, who might be involved in the disappearance of their daughter. As his investigation advances, Darius discovers Percy's lycanthropy, and starts to blackmail him. Percy, in response, discovers that Darius is a vampire, and as their rivalry grows, they are also the only other person who knows of their secret, and are forced to ask each other for help, and learn to trust each other, as the actual reason for the Evans daughter's disappearance opens up old wounds in Percy's past.)
the rest of the stuff is under the cut cuz this got REALLY long (partially cuz this is three characters, not one but i love them so much can you blame me)
Tumblr media
Percival (Peredur) Eirwyn Fairwell:
Percival is a Welsh werewolf who moved from Swansea, Wales, to Norwich a handful of years before the start of the story (prior to 1902). There, he builds a career as a private investigator, making friends with a (human) woman named Ivy Leslie Hawkins, and eventually they move in together - partially to avoid any gossip as to why they weren't married this late into their 20s. They aren't romantically involved at all, and Percy is gay. Upon visiting a tailor's shop in 1903, he meets a "woman" (not out trans man, Alexander), who he befriends. Eventually, Alex trusts him enough to admit that he's a boy, and wants to be called Alexander instead. They become closer, Percy's connections across Norwich allowing him to to cash in on multiple favours to help Alex transition, like having his hair cut without questioning or making a binding corset, and Alex tailors his own suit for the first time. Percy falls in love, and he falls in love hard. He doesn't think he's ever loved a man more than he loves Alex. Even when he admits his lycanthropy to him, Alexander is far from scared of the three meter werewolf in front of him. Across different full moons, Alex manages to convince Percy that he is not the violent werewolf he thinks himself as. He removes the silver chains Percy uses every full moon, and even convinces him to start spending full moon nights in their townhouse in Norwich instead of a broken down shed in the outskirts of the city. Alexander understands Percy in a way no one else ever has. For his birthday in March 1906, he gifts Percy a locket with a picture of Alex, with "I love you" engraved in three languages on the inside (Welsh for Percy, French for Alex, English for the two of them). Alexander's birthday in November 1906 falls right after a rough full moon, where Percy accidentally hurts both himself and Alex. Unable to go to the jeweller's to pick up his gift for Alex, and the pharmacy for supplies they ran out of, Alex goes there instead, and disappears on the way to the pharmacy, after having picked up Percy's gift for him: a matching locket to his own, with a picture of Percival inside. Percival is devastated, and Alex's parents, who have never accepted their son as who he is, blame him for Alex disappearing.
What happens after is the actual Farewell, Fairwell story, but pretty much a rival private investigator (Darius Pembroke) moves into Norwich, and is hired by the Evans family to prove that Percy is responsible for their daughter's Alex's disappearance. Darius figures out Percy is a werewolf, and holds it over his head, until Percy figures out Darius is a vampire. They keep going for months, finding bits of information to one-up the other. However, despite being enemies, the other is also the person who knows the most about them, and they have to trust each other when they need (such as when Darius runs out of blood). Over these months, Darius no longer thinks Percy is guilty of Alex's disappearance, and instead starts suspecting the Evans family.
I'm gonna stop there for the plot, there's things that happen afterwards that I'm gonna mention/imply next but :3 we stay silly
I really really like percival because of how complicated he is as a character. For instance, how much he changes upon moving to Norwich (modifying his accent and name so people are less likely to clock him as Welsh), how he changes after meeting Alex (softening up, caring, loving someone, no longer being scared of the Wolf in his head), how Alex's disappearance affects him (suffocating with grief, blaming himself, blaming the Wolf), yet he still pulls himself together, what facade he puts up after meeting Darius (hiding his past with Alex, pretending not to be broken), the moment he sees Alex again in that cramped attic and how much yet how little his demeanor changes once he realises Alexander doesn't remember him, helping Alex escape and heal, loving him again, losing him again, grieving, letting himself heal from that grief, and let himself love again. On the "Love again" part: Percy loves Alex and Percy loves Darius and those relationships changed him, and even if he loved Alex first, and even if Darius is who he ends up by the end of the story, neither relationship is any better than the other and he'll still love Alex, and he'll still love Darius.
Percival seems to share so much about himself to Darius (mentioning the night his father tried to kill him, slowly opening up about Alex and even making Darius refer to him properly even if it means giving up a piece of information about Darius that would give him the upper hand in their convoluted game), yet there's so much Darius can't figure out. Despite this openness, Darius refuses to share information about his past back, and Percy does not make him. He simply mentions once that everyone that has stepped foot in his house was running away from something or other, and that they all have their own story behind it.
Also this is a small detail i really like about him, but Percy wears the locket Alex gave him under his clothes every day, and even on full moons!!
Here's a handful of quotes from two bits of writing as a bonus because i think they explain percy and how darius seems him best!!
"Percy had shut himself in soon after he realised Alexander didn’t remember him, or seemingly anything outside of that damp and cramped attic. But he had gotten a glimpse of another Percival in the moments before that realisation. He had smiled, actually smiled, a different smile than the ones he had seen him give Ivy, friendly and joking, a different smile than the ones he had given Darius, proud smirks and sarcastic grins. A part of himself Darius refused to acknowledge ached at the thought that he’d never be on the receiving end of one of those smiles, the ones that were clearly reserved for Alexander. Not only that, his entire body had softened when he opened that door. Some of that grief and stress that Percival carried with him, a version of him that was all Darius had ever known, had disappeared."
"Somehow, despite their constant back and forth, lying and betrayal, Fairwell is able to tell that, this time, Darius is telling the truth."
"Percival knows Darius won’t say anything about it to anyone else. It’s the same game they’ve played for months. They hold cards, pieces of information, that could ruin the other’s life, but if they show it to someone else, the other will do the same. Darius might be holding this card, able to ruin Percy’s life and love with one meeting, but he doesn’t care about having the upper hand, about winning their game. In truth, he hasn’t cared about the game in months. At this point, it is just an elaborate way of learning things about Percival."
"Percival Fairwell, who barges in and slams the door behind him like he’s being chased. Percival Fairwell, who has never willingly spent time around him. Percival Fairwell, who is holding his side and bleeding and- Oh. Percival Fairwell, who has never willingly spent time around him."
"Darius would say he’s never seen Percival care about someone in the same way he seems to care about her, but the glimpses he’s seen of how Fairwell feels about ‘his Alex’ is just as soft, if not even softer than his inclinations towards Howard."
"There is something between the two of them, something Darius has never heard of and cannot name, but he knows that as soon as they speak, or leave the room, it will break, and Percival will never come to him for help like he did tonight ever again."

gwyneira eunha jeon is born on christmas eve in swansea, wales. her father is the ceo of jeon industries, a renowned south korean biomedical and pharmaceutical company whilst her mother, jeon ceri, is a former prima ballerina and the artistic director for the national ballet in wales.
eira is born with underlying heart issues as a result of being premature, her birth leaving both her and her mother in a critical state. just as eira is scheduled to undergo invasive heart surgery, she seems to be miraculously cured in the early mornings of christmas day. such joy and relief are short lived as not long after, eira's mother passes away due to complications from the birth.
as a result of the circumstances of her birth her family, as she grows up, is incredibly protective of her. she is handed the world on a silver platter, never needing nor wanting for anything a day in her life. whilst her father's business is involved in some shady and rather unethical practices within the medical world, hidden well by their mass fortunes, eira is kept strictly out of it and sheltered from such harsh realities. her two older brothers assume the helm of her father's heirs, leaving eira to fall into the one place left for her — her mother's element.
she had a natural talent for ballet that was evident from youth, having been placed into ballet lessons at a young age. at four years old, when the family of three relocated to south korea, eira begins to find her place in the world of dance. what starts off as a hobby evidently reveals that eira could never escape her mother's legacy, not that she wants to. the stage is predestined for her, as her prodigious talent seems to speak for itself. as soon as she had been able to walk she had only wanted to dance and before she'd ever even spoken a word, her language had been that of ballet.
she advances quickly in her studies of the ballet world with the ease of someone both massively talented but also well connected. it is in highschool when she her love for dance becomes more deeply ingrained into her soul and her obsession with ballet takes root. in a world she can't control, it is the precision and demanded perfection of her art that she seems to be the ruler of on her own. thus, dance becomes the very essence of her life and she begins to lose sleep over it. her relationships and friendship crumble under the weight of addiction to her soaring career.
until she loses control. not even eighteen and she'd already lost that sense of power over dance that she once adored. she had allowed this dedication to her craft to consume her. but she doesn’t stop, doesn’t really know how to and so she continues to spiral deeper into the void. having been granted admission into the korean national ballet in her highschool days, rising from the ranks of the corps de ballet to grand soloist within her first few years, she is pushed to her limit in order to be perfect for the stage yet she begins to struggle with her own mental and physical health. ballet being her sole driving force was sucking the life out of her and the compulsive need to dance consumes her days and then her nights until it culminates in stifling paranoia, insomnia and hallucinations from her lack of sleep. she became detached from both reality and the people around her entirely.
in an attempt to regain control, she turns to the one thing her family warded her away from. her connections to biomedical field meant obtaining the necessary prescriptions for her anxiety medication and tranquilisers were simple. the allowed her to forget her struggles if only for a small amount of time and allow her to continue shining on the stage as she had always done. she traded all that was left of her self-control and sanity for slivers of happiness but it soon becomes more of an addiction than a mere escape.
during the last act of her swan lake performance with the korean national ballet, as she in on the verge of a promotion to the companies most elite title, her substance abuse almost causes a crippling scandal. she completes her show brilliantly, one that would go down in history as possibly her greatest performance but when the curtain draws, eira loses consciousness and is rushed to the hospital. after three days comotose, she awakens to an ultimatum from the company; six months of rehabilitation and psychotherapy and then she is to be sent to her mother's alma mater to complete an accelerated dance degree, allowing herself to recuperate. upon completely the degree in the minimum of two and half a years, she will be allowed to rejoin the company and take her place as a prima ballerina and principal dancer. all knowledge of her scandal is discretely brushed under the rug with the help of her family's money and connections.
after completely her required rehab, she begins at daskalos university in the 2023-2024 school year, majoring in dance. she is inducted soon after she settles in under the tutelage of professor avila, welcomed into the dionysia as their cassandra.

Warning: This article contains images of violence and blood.
The first part of the review: ORIGINS The third part of the review: WHERE ART IS HIDDEN
There are small spoilers that do not reveal the plot of the game, but only separately highlight certain moments in the game.
This is the second part of my review on Vampyr, in which I talk about the plot and its construction.
Due to russia's attacks, the time to use electricity is getting shorter. It deprives me of both writing time and inspiration (greetings from Ukraine). Anyway, someone tagged my previous Vampyr review as a long read. I know it's a little too much for Tumblr, but sometimes I feel like if I don't dissect a game I've played, these thoughts will eat away at my brain. So this is the second of 3 parts dedicated to Vampyr, namely to its plot.
At the first immersion in the game, which occurs even at the stage of reading the annotation, the plot may seem a bit dry. Doctor Jonathan Reid returns from the war to quarantined London, overflowing with mass graves of citizens who died from the Spanish flu. Now, trying on a new role as a vampire, he must investigate the causes of the spread of the disease and find out what happened to him on the way home. To do this, having enlisted the support of the vampire Lady Ashbury and Dr. Swansea, Jonathan will have to fight against vampire aristocrats, devout vampire hunters and his own nature torn by contradictions.
Tumblr media
If you remove all the vampire fleur, the plot will resemble novels with stories about loan sharks, lawyers, bureaucracy, promissory notes and securities, dragged by the smog of industrial cities of the XIX century. In addition, in the center of the story is a military doctor (doesn't it remind you of anything?), that is, a representative of a whole 'broken generation' that saw human cruelty in all its manifestations on the battlefields of the First World War. If you want to imagine the state of people at that time just for a second, look at the works of the artist Otto Dix, who went through this hell himself. Or spend one evening on Twitter, browsing posts with the Ukraine tag. By this I mean that the protagonist of Vampyr is a traumatized character with some issues. More precisely, it could be like that. But back to the in-game story.
I like the approach to plot selection. It is not simply included in the chronological framework of the era, but is closely related to the real events of the covered period of time. Because of this, even the main character himself seems like a historical figure, which led me to read about blood transfusions and when this method was actually discovered. Answering this question, blood transfusion was invented long before 1918, and is used by Stoker as a way to save the bloodless Lucy. And the very decision to make a vampire a doctor, tying the plot on it, is truly brilliant. This duality of Jonathan's new nature presents the player with a dilemma from the start: to allow the protagonist to honorably keep the Hippocratic Oath while grasping for scraps of humanity, or to place its remains on the altar for the sake of achieving the goal at any cost.
It is worth saying right away that the first option is more difficult. Quenching your thirst (i.e. killing characters) will give Jonathan a lot of experience which you can use to improve your vampire skills and level up. But with each life taken, Dr. Reid will become less and less like himself. Saving the lives of potential victims will not benefit you in itself. To do this, you will have to spend on quests, the completion of which will give you the desired experience points. But don't take it as a boring burden. The tasks from the townspeople are mostly interesting and what is most important - reveal not only their characters, but also Jonathan's vampiric side.
Tumblr media
In the previous part, I already mentioned the restraining power of morality, borrowed from Christianity through the lens of Stoker. But the writer uses morality on the contrary, as a driving force, as an idea that drives the characters to save a dear person and cleanse the world of Dracula. In Vampyr, morality seems like a safety net, keeping you as Jonathan from making a mistake. Often, in attempts to 'solve the problem' of another character, I stopped at the question: do I have the right to this? Does Jonathan have the right to take away mortal life and give eternal life? Do I have the authority to judge the rightness of someone's actions when I am the one who does evil? After all, Jonathan is an ordinary vampire, not a deity. And it's not just my guilty conscience. Your acquaintances tell you about it to your face, or these messages slip through the dialogues themselves. And even if you want to play a good doctor, you should remember that everyone has their own definition of good. My first decisions in the game were terrible, although I believed that I was doing the right thing and in good conscience, satisfying all sides of the conflict. As we know, you can't please everyone.
But do not perceive your choice as a mistake, and its consequences as a bad ending. After all, life is about choices and their consequences. In the game you do not have the opportunity to return to a certain point and roll everything back. The plot of the game and the story of the main character flow like life, which cannot be begged to be given another chance. But you can always look back to think about how to fix mistakes. Depending on the chosen path, taking into account all your decisions and summing up the amount of blood drunk, the game will reward you as you deserve. This is much more than I could expect from a game of this caliber.
Tumblr media
Returning to the main character, our Doctor Reid is not deprived of 'exclusivity syndrome'. Before the events of the game, Jonathan was already known in scientific circles as a skilled doctor and surgeon. In the world of medicine, he is a superstar, as the very first chapter of the game makes us understand. And it is on these stellar shoulders with an exceptional mindset that the sweet gift of vampirism and the heavy burden of saving the homeland falls.
On the one hand, I am somewhat annoyed by the concept of 'exclusivity' of the character. Think how many titles you have in Skyrim that are mutually exclusive, not to mention that you are humanity's last hope for salvation. Think of all the games you've played - in most of them, your main character almost changes the fate of the entire universe. For no apparent reason, just because. The first to change this concept for me was Cyberpunk 2077. Although you are fighting global evil in the form of corporations and their expansion, your 'avatar' is a small cog that has a chance to remain the same at the end of the game (I say this because I got the most stupid ending). But Vampyr approaches this question in a balanced way. The plot quite logically explains why the superstar-surgeon-vampire-champion Jonathan is the chosen one to save England and why only he can do it. As I said in the first part of my review, the game will definitely answer this question at the end. And the answer rests on one of the pillars of the game - science.
Tumblr media
The already mentioned concept of the character's dualistic nature and the connection of the plot to the real events of the past allow the game to stand firmly on its feet. This allows you to combine various aspects of the game layout into a single logical whole. First of all, we have a fairly 'realistic' reason for the development of events, supported by historical facts. In Vampyr disease doesn't just hinder our progress toward the truth. It is part of the truth that the player must reach. The beginning gives a rather vague explanation of what is happening. Against this background, the behavior of people also seems strange, because it is not completely clear whether they are aware of the existence of vampires. The game does not go into excessively fantastic explanations of what is happening. But it leaves them a little far from our understanding, as the idea of primitive people about the state of things in the world. It makes one feel as if such a thing really happened, and the ambiguity of the explanation of the phenomenon of vampirism is as much a logical fallacy as the logical gaps in the Bible (I still consider myself a believer).
Secondly, the detective style of the story is a good motivation for completing the plot. Jonathan's professional experience allows him to draw rational conclusions to match his meticulous mind. And oh wonder! This is not inconsistent with the fact that we have a story about vampires here. Thirdly, the attempt to give the story realism is also followed in the attempts of the developers to explain some minor game moments. Can you shoot a gun? Even the small revolver that Jonathan uses weighs not so little. Besides, it is not enough just to be able to pull the trigger. You have to know how to aim and consider the return. The average doctor hardly knows all these subtleties. But in the hands of Jonathan, a doctor who went through the war, the weapon does not cause dissonance. At least a firearm…
Influenza is also an explanation for why Jonathan wanders around at night and asks the people of London why they themselves are not sitting at home at night. This is an insignificant detail that should not be paid attention to at all. But the game tries to remain rational until the end.
Tumblr media
From all of the above, it may seem that in terms of plot, everything in the game is perfect from start to finish. But it is not quite so. Let's go back to the first paragraph, where I argued that Jonathan is a representative of the war-traumatized generation. In fact, the game squeezes very little out of it. Only in a few dialogues does Dr. Reid mention this experience. We also see some of his flashbacks, which present the protagonist as a dedicated doctor, ready to go to the end. In this case, the arc of the character, which can turn Jonathan into a bloodthirsty beast with your good will, seems somewhat illogical. How can a person who has seen oceans of blood, seas of human tears and their suffering come down the path of a ruthless monster? He is either subconsciously a maniac or a weak-willed person, although his military experience proves otherwise.
Also, as I mentioned in the first part of the review, Jonathan has very progressive views at the time. He does not look like a haughty nobleman and treats all patients equally; he supports the emancipation of women and respects them; does not condemn same-sex or interracial relationships. Today, after years of struggle, all of the above is normal. For the beginning of the XX century, this is a little too much. I'm not saying it's implausible and destroys Jonathan as a character. But he is too perfect a man, whom I personally did not dare to destroy with the curse of vampirism. Maybe that Marty Stu effect smooths the plot a bit. Regardless of the path he chooses, Jonathan still goes through his character arc. You either overcome the thirst, keeping everything human in you, or you allow the new nature to consume you.
Tumblr media
In this part of the review, I tried to explain why Vampyr has a really interesting and original plot, which among all modern works about vampires could be a kind of classic. It has a great premise, good motivation for the main character, moderately gothic and fantasy, but at the same time not overloaded with magical silliness. The narrative is neat and logical, and most importantly, interesting, full of drama and poetry (more on that in the next chapter). The story of the game allows you to develop your own vision of the character's story, bringing it to a predetermined ending.
Looking at the game on Steam or the Wiki page, you will see reviews about the mediocrity of the game, the weakness of the combat system, the heavily modified original source, out-of-place face animations, weak graphics and, of course, bugs, lags and freezes. Because of this, I deliberately avoid some boyish view of the game, focused on leveling and crafting, on digging to the smallest detail and complaining about 58 FPS instead of 60. I want to say that each game in terms of content's depth outweighs some quantitative indicators and I advise you to take a game (at least Vampyr) first and foremost as a work of art, not a battery-operated doll. In art criticism, you will not find a five-point rating scale for a painting or a rating of the best sculptors. After all, each work is unique, and in order to prove why it is bad or good, you need to qualitatively analyze its "means of expression". This time, I laid out the plot of the game on the shelves (at least for myself). In the next part, I will try to find something about the visual component, a little about the drama and, of course, the music, in order to finally reveal the essence of this game.
Tumblr media
I wrote the review in a hurry, trying to make it to the next power outage. I apologize for all the mistakes, circumlocutions and perhaps not very clear constructions of sentences.

How Can I Reduce My Environmental Footprint During a House Removal?
Have you ever thought about the impact your house move could have on the environment? While it's an exciting time, packing up and relocating can generate a significant amount of waste and consume a lot of resources.
Tumblr media
Fortunately, there are simple steps you can take to minimize your environmental footprint during this process.
Plan ahead and declutter
First off, start by de-cluttering your home well in advance. Go through each room and sort your belongings into three categories: keep, donate, and discard.
By getting rid of items you no longer need or use, you'll reduce the amount of stuff that needs to be packed and transported, saving time, money, and resources.
Opt for eco-friendly packing materials
Next, consider the materials you'll use for packing. Instead of purchasing new boxes and bubble wrap, look for gently used alternatives. Check with local stores, recycling centers, or online marketplaces for free boxes.
Additionally, use towels, blankets, and clothing to wrap fragile items, eliminating the need for plastic wrap or Styrofoam peanuts.
Choose a reputable and efficient removal company
When selecting a removal company, research their sustainability practices. Look for companies that use fuel-efficient vehicles, optimize routes to minimize emissions, and recycle or reuse packing materials.
An experienced and efficient team will ensure your Removals Newport is completed with minimal waste and energy consumption.
Properly dispose of unwanted items
As you sort through your belongings, you'll likely accumulate a pile of items for disposal. Rather than simply tossing everything in the trash, explore environmentally friendly options.
Many charities and organizations accept donations of furniture, electronics, and household goods. For items that cannot be donated, research local recycling programs or hazardous waste disposal facilities.
Unpack and settle inefficiently
Upon arrival at your new home, make a conscious effort to unpack and organize efficiently. Recycle or reuse any packing materials that are in good condition.
Consider donating or selling any unwanted items that didn't make the cut during your initial decluttering process.
Embrace sustainable living
Finally, view your House Removals near Me as an opportunity to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle in your new home. Explore eco-friendly home improvement projects, such as installing energy-efficient appliances or solar panels.
Reduce your household waste by composting and recycling diligently. Implement water-saving measures and consider growing your own fruits and vegetables.
Final Take Away
Following these simple steps, you can significantly reduce your environmental impact during a House Removal Swansea. Remember, every small effort counts towards creating a greener and more sustainable future.
If you're looking for a reliable and eco-conscious removal company in the area, consider City Moves. Their commitment to sustainability and exceptional service ensure a smooth and environmentally friendly Removals Carmarthen.

if it makes you feel better, a mature student on my course (history) used chatgpt to write an essay (on a real historical event) and handed it in (to a history professor who specialises in the real historical event) and chatgpt got the event entirely wrong. the student went to every lecture and seminar. i don't really know what the thought process was. they showed me their exact work process though (closed wikipedia next to me, put the essay q into chatgpt, and handed it in).
yay university!
Yeah, the very first student I ever caught doing this was last year. He was supposed to write a management plan for a site of his choosing, and went for the site of the old Dunvant Brickworks, now a flourishing reclaimed nature reserve with a brick dust problem.
And his Site Background section was entirely made up. Just fully fictionalised. It claimed there was now a museum and visitor centre onsite (there is not), that the brickworks were named after the family that founded them (they were named after the nearby village which comes from the Welsh Dwfn + Nant), and that the site has won awards for conservation (it has not) and now runs classes on heritage brickmaking (it does not.) Oh, and that the original brickworks had pioneered a brand new brickmaking techniques and was known during the Industrial Revolution for it's progressive workers' rights. Lol.
Anyway the first marker used to be a taxi driver in Swansea, and went "Hang on, there's no museum and visitor's centre -" and then passed it to me. Three hours later, we had proven that six of the fifteen references (already, far too few references for a MASTERS STUDENT) were fake. Two of those fake ones were then heavily used throughout the whole piece to prove everything from the history of the site (lies) to the hydrologic grid (fake) and the presence of signal crayfish in the streams (no).
It was, as they say, a shit show. And again, before I got involved and hit the ChatGPT alarm, the original second marker had looked it over and failed it - not because she knew it was AI, but because it was an utterly shit piece of work.
(That particularly story ended, btw, with that student being given leniency on mental health grounds, so he was allowed to try to resubmit with a new attempt. He was advised to return to the site, reassess it properly, then write up a new piece.
The day before his new submission date, his study support called me and asked for a meeting between the three of us, because the study support is from an IT background and so didn't have the subject knowledge to support him. We had a three way Teams call. During that call, me and the study support - hereafter referred to as Gareth to spare me typing that - both had microphones on, cameras on, and were freely talking. Student had his camera and microphone off.
First question from Gareth: "So, we have the site's real management plan, but it's 20 years out of date. Is this going to be a problem?"
Me: "No, not at all. In the industry, management plans are often out of date. Just factor that into yours - if it was written 20 years ago, you'll probably need to update the surveys to re-establish the current baseline, so what are you going to say needs to be surveyed and when. Does that make sense, Student?"
And there was, I shit you not, a SEVEN SECOND PAUSE, and then he unmuted himself and went "Sorry, what was that? I was sending a text."
And that happened a further three times over the course of that 40-minute meeting. A meeting he had requested the eve of his second chance because he still hadn't done it. A meeting he visibly did not think he had to listen in, or participate in, and thought he could get Gareth to listen to instead.
And then he submitted the new piece, and the only changes were:
He had entirely removed the site background section. It had not been replaced.
He had added in approximately twelve new in-text citations, none of which he'd added to the reference list for us to actually trace.
Which meant he was still heavily relying on the two fake references, and elsewhere in the piece, still had a paragraph that mentioned the museum and visitors centre; and THAT meant that he submitted, for a second time, work containing AI-generated content.
He was withdrawn from the course.)

On: Social Fund Winter Fuel Payment Regulations 2024
Lord Palmer of Childs Hill moved that this House regrets that the Social Fund Winter Fuel Payment Regulations 2024 (SI 2024/869), laid before the House on 22 August, will remove support from many of the poorest pensioners at the same time as the energy price cap is being lifted; and calls on the Government (1) to take steps to identify those who are eligible for pension credit but do not claim it so that they can receive both benefits; (2) to support vulnerable pensioners this winter; and (3) to take action to end fuel poverty, including with an emergency home insulation programme and a windfall tax on the profits of oil and gas companies. The House divided:

Huw Edwards plaque removed from Cardiff Castle wall
Get the free Morning Headlines email for news from our reporters across the world Sign up to our free Morning Headlines email A plaque honouring Huw Edward has been removed from the walls of Cardiff Castle after he pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children. The move from Cardiff Council comes after the former presenter admitted on Wednesday to having 41 indecent images of children, sent to him by a convicted paedophile on WhatsApp. The messages included seven category A images, the most serious type – two of which, showed a child aged between about seven and nine. Cardiff Council confirmed the plaque was removed on Wednesday along with the audio narration guide which was removed from the app on Thursday. An underpass mural which Edwards had been to visit in his home village of Llangennech, Carmarthenshire has also been concealed this week. (Mark Hutchings) The artwork, created by Steve Jenkins, 50, was painted over on Tuesday after it was revealed that Edwards had been charged with the charges over indecent child images. In a statement for the BBC News Jenkins said: “I feel deeply saddened to have to remove it as the whole village loved it when it was first done. “I was given the topic of the village to base the mural on and we thought it would be nice if Huw was included. “It was lovely, he brought his mum along to see it and that’s why this is such a bitter pill to swallow.” Several charities, meanwhile, have severed their allegiance with the broadcaster including The National Churches Trust and The Journalists’ Charity following his court appearance. (Mark Hutchings) In a statement from the National Churches Trust they said: “In light of the news on Monday 29 July, the National Churches Trust has confirmed that Huw Edwards is no longer a Vice President for the charity. “We are shocked and saddened by the recent developments.” In its first move to conceal previous broadcasts of the presenter, the BBC has removed Edwards’ appearance in a Doctor Who episode on IPlayer. He remains in the BBC archives even though this is a contested matter. Edwards also has ties to the London Male Voice Choir, The Learned Society of Wales, Cardiff University, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and Swansea University – all of whom have been approached for comment.
