Ive been working on this book for over a year now and I’m so so proud to finally have it done. There’s a lot of stuff I could say about this bind but it mostly boils down to “holy shit I actually did it that’s so cool”

I'm SO excited to have bound this series as part of @renegadeguild's Fanfic Writer's Appreciation Day (August 21) event, it is one of my absolute favorite fics and such a love letter to butch subs/bottoms everywhere.

i forgot to take good progress pics here because besides cutting the pages/the octavo size, this bind felt very standard/nothing much new was tried, construction wise -- but I DID draw the cover art with my mouse in photoshop because i couldn't find good royalty free art that fit the Vibe and this fic deserves a bangin cover.

I went with Gideon being collared by Harrow for the design because like, yeah. Of course I did. She deserves this.

I think one of the main artistic things I would change in the future (besides photographing it against a more contrasting background OOPS) is I think I'd want a thinner tip for the foiling, I think the summary on the back turned out okay but the spine text was a bit small for the tip I had, so it is a bit hard to read.

I really like the octavo size for shorter fics, especially for fics in the 5k-15k range depending on font size/art/etc. I wouldn't want to do a standard folio or even quarto with something this short just due to like... it would turn out magazine thin, but it looks cute as hell when turned pocket sized so I'm excited to have opened up a new realm of fics to bind!

Learning a new shading method!

I loved Polly Honeycombe’s reaction to learning Nell isn’t a man … she didn’t adamantly deny that truth or the truth that she was still attracted to Nell. Up until that point, we had only heard her talking and writing about men, but she didn’t have any revulsion or questioning. The audience saw no “Oh I guess I’m attracted to women now”, Polly just accepted that and kissed her not long after learning that info.

(This of course works toward the easy editing out of their kiss, but that was something good to come out of it. It refreshing that we didn’t see any complicated feelings within Polly discovering her queerness.)

Todays bind! Fools Gold, by @tigers1o1 !!

Personally, I absolutely adore the paper and bookcloth combination on this bind. I got the cloth a while back for free and I’ve been waiting for a chance to use it, and then my friend Cam got me this paper as a gift! It seemed way too perfect to not use!

This was a very exciting bind, because it gave me the opportunity to try something completely new, gilded edges!!

Although it didn’t turn out perfect, I’m still super proud of how clean it ended up. Plus, I personally think the flaws make it better :D

The typesetting here was very exciting for me. A few months ago Ty held a tattoo contest for the fic, and I couldn’t not use them when I saw the two finalist designs. So I went ahead and contacted the artists, and they both said I could use them!!

Still on the Crutches/Renegade arc (Nightwing vol.2) reread, and I got to the part where Blüdhaven citizens are evacuating during the Chemo attack, and I was so not ready for this moment:

"Are you a hero?"

"What? Where are your parents? Is anyone with–"

"A superhero? For us? For our city? Like Nightwing. Do you believe in Nightwing?"

Like. Aside from what this moment means to Dick (my man is Having A Time, and has been Having A Time for months now), I always love when we get to see the heroes from the perspective of an ordinary citizen.

And it makes so much sense that the average person has no idea what Nightwing even looks like – this story was published in 2006, before wide-spread social media and before everyone had a good quality camera with them at all times – there are probably barely any photos of Nightwing in existence! And he works at night, so even if somebody saw him they most likely couldn't get a good look!

But there are whispers. Stories of a superhero. A hope, that there's someone looking out for the people of Blüdhaven. That Nightwing is real.

A fuck around and find out double-core chevron endband (take 2) inspired by French double-core end bands and Armenian endbands, for a WIP; wanted that sweet triangle design since it's a gravity falls Bill/Ford fic (Drain me Out by miasmaia). Just gotta trim the endbands and glue down the erroneous threads that stick up in the back.
