'obviously there are other reasons why I like them' ahem can you share what those are? i miss aloth x watcher sm
sorry, Anon, I started writing this, saved it as a draft bc i wanted to make edits to it and then promptly forgot about it, I sincerely apologize
Tbh I covered many of my thoughts about them in these ask responses ages ago (X X) so I'll probably just end echoing those but anyway:
Generally speaking I like how their characterizations tie them together - Aloth's bravery and intellect manifests in the dynamic. He immediately approaches the Watcher with curiosity and by the time we get an actual sense of how anxious he is about everything and how lonely he's been for who knows how long, we also have a pretty fun rapport between him and the Watcher. You really get a sense that he trusts them, that he feels comfortable around them or at the very least, he's willing to take a chance on them (and when you consider that he's part of a cult hunting the Watcher, that last bit hits extra hard). And what's better is that the Watcher can match that intellect and bravery (well they kinda have to in terms of bravery, given... everything). Obviously, gameplay-wise they have a leader/follower dynamic but the narrative constantly frames them as equals - or people trying to be equals I really really like that Aloth takes the time to work on himself bc he caught himself treating the Watcher as an authority figure akin to his father and Thaos, it's ouggh so good - and mirrors of one another which I appreciate greatly.
Speaking of mirrors I also like how their POVs compliment one another. The Watcher by default is someone with a unique perspective so part of the companions' purpose in the story is to ground and expand that perspective, and the companions not only show the Watcher a different perspective but that they learn to view themselves differently, as well as they reevaluate their approach to the Watcher. And with Aloth this just hits so hard, his admission that he hoped the Watcher would "fix him" has been living in my head rent free ngl.
And just *gestures vaguely* they're so tender with one another, they have so much hope for one another and trust in one another even though they're acutely aware that they might not be mentally in the right place for a proper courtship (and Aloth is a little scared to form commitments not bc he's scared of commitment itself but bc he knows his duty might call him away from the Watcher but he still gives it a go) but they still try and they just take every day for what it is and cherish every moment they spend with one another and just 😭😭😭

Wait. People actually think Luis was on Saddlers side all the way up until we meet him? He literally has communication with Ada on his computer about how he wants away from Los Iluminados??? He offered the Amber as a bargaining chip for his safety out of desperation?????
-transluisserra
Y E S .
@fthechantry I think all going over every single detail does is just make people unnecessarily angry over something they can’t control so the tl;Dr is I THINK the root cause is because the RE wiki just REALLY doesn’t like Luis??,?,?.?.?.?. For some reason??????????? I’ve made a whole post but they have a WEIRD passive-aggression towards him and spread a LOT of misinfo (including,, THAAAAT) and I’d WAGER A GUESS that’s where most people got that idea from
LUUUUUUUCKILY I’ve only ever seen that idea used in malice on that cursed blue bird app I wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole BXNEHENDJD but other than that it’s just people kinda. Confused
LIKE OKAY ignoring all the EXTREMELY PROBLEMATIC undertones aside it’s CLEARLY just glorified rage bait tryna stir up an argument BXNEBENDJDNJS buuuuuuuut heeeeeeyyy that’s juuuuuust the interneeeeeeettt!!!
But yes yes yes you’re absolutely 100000% correct at NO POINT is he with Los Illuminados willingly. Like he has that one file about being morbidly curious about what a world would look like under the Plagas’ control but he IMMEDIATELY retracts that- and including everything you said, the HEAPS of implications that he was or was going to be tortured plus the fact that he was infected w the plagas and CUT IT OUT OF HIS CHEST A N D was horrified at his fellow scientists creations,,,,, WHY would he be complacent in the destruction of his CHILDHOOD VILLAGE??? He’s a REALLY sentimental guy and he goes as far as to do the sign of the cross whenever he kills somebody!! And, again, there’s a L O T of cultural and historical implications too that other people have wrote about FAR BETTER than I have
If I had to take a crack I think it’s just people wanting a really easy to swallow ‘bad guy turns good’ story BXNSHWNSJSJ because just like chivalry nuance is dead 😔😔😔😔 /jjjjjjjjjjjjjj

I'm kinda late to this I think idk but all the nia, jon and jay discussion made me realise that a lot of dc fans are just straight up homophobic and just... denying it and refusing to acknowledge it

Thank you <3

okay so the batarians in Mass Effect were done dirty as hell - some hot takes (that kind of fall into the water is wet category but y'know how it is with these games) below the cut
So let me get it out of the way that yes, I get that they are a race that engages in slavery. Yes, I get that they've got a caste system going on, and yes, they engage in terrorism.
Thing is though that they are not the only ones who do these things, but the games don't allow us to learn anything about them beyond these things, unlike with other races - bc as a reminder the first alien slaver that we meet in person is an asari, the turians have their entire culture built around military hierarchies and... Oh yeah, we work for a terrorist organization for a whole game.
It's almost as if all the things that are problematic about the batarians go hand in hand with imperialism, which is something that most Citadel races - but especially the Council races - engage in.
But if the games were to bother exploring the batarians further in the games then they would also have to address the elephant in the room - that the humans were the ones who started the conflict with them by colonizing planets that the batarians have either started colonizing or were prepping to colonize, then the batarians reached out to the Council for help who refused it, which lead them to close their embassy on the Citadel and then after Torfan they moved back to the Terminus Systems (by which I mean, that even though as it played out, Torfan was a retaliatory strike but given its impact, it's safe to assume that the Alliance would've attacked it eventually, even if the Skyllian Blitz didn't happen). There were no good guys in this conflict, only two imperial powers where one happened to win.
And given that the research that ends up being the basis for Task Force Aurora in the Leviathan dlc was started by batarians, I feel like that dlc would've been a perfect opportunity to include a batarian temporary companion (but like any of the games could've had one... like did Zaeed really have to be a human?). As is, the most humanization (for the lack of better word) the batarians get is through a handful of NPCs, most of whom are depicted as non-antagonistic criminals, and Balak, an antagonist from the Bring Down the Sky dlc who could become a begrudging ally in me3 - if he's alive that is (and even then he only gets a couple of minutes of screentime in total across the trilogy)

Camila finding out that Lilith put a young girl in her care into a deeply vulnerable situation where she is more susceptible to danger and violence: "Ah. I see. So This Is A Pattern For Her"
camila wanting to murder lilith the same way luz/hunter want to murder odalia is so so SO funny.
sorry for thinking "i desperately want to kick the shit out of this person but there are external reasons why i can't and it SUUUUUCKSSSSS" is one of the best dynamics possible. as if it's my fault....

I'm a creator and I actually prefer people having their own experience with the art even if it means I don't get any responses made to me myself. Sometimes I think it's even pointless because it'll likely be filtered compliments to avoid appearing rude.
Rather than a booth, I see it more like a musician playing on a train for tips and getting upset that no one clapped whether they actually enjoyed it or not. At a certain point, it just feels like people getting mad at strangers for not giving the response they're looking for when they weren't entitled to it in the first place. It's even worse when a lot of people are just looking for interaction for the things they made and do nothing for other people. Isn't that more of a personal fanclub than a community?
I don't think sharing for attention and interaction is bad in itself, but I don't understand the expectation of strangers to give it just for the act of having made something.
And because I know someone will ask: Why do you bother sharing then? Because why not? And also money sometimes.
i mean that's also valid, because not every creator is the same or approach the community with the same intentions. i'm a little envious that you can separate engagement (or lack thereof) and personal fulfillment you get from the artwork
i think though in the context of the original post that the first anon was in response to, it read more like "if you enjoyed the work or have thoughts about it tell the authors/don't just keep silent because otherwise they're going to think no one reads it and will just stop posting", which is a bit different from "making something, by default, earns and is owed engagement from the community" because that's garbage.
it's less about being entitled to other people's emotional effort, and more about engaging with each other as members of a subculture/community. no one is entitled to praise or compliments or any kind of feedback, but if you liked a work or found an idea interesting you should at least think about voicing it, because fandom is at its core an exchange of ideas and emotions surrounding a common piece of media. tbh a lot of people nowadays seem to take an outsider position where they consume the work but don't actually step into a fandom, and imo that has to do with the commodification of fandom work and spaces where it becomes a content mill rather than like...an actual community space
i think we're focused on two different things here but i get where you're coming from because i think using fandom status/trying to leverage your works for social clout is setting yourself up for mockery

i lost a few asks tonight when tumblr decided to glitch and unfortunately don't remember or didn't even get to read most of them, but to the anon that asked why wyk is called that, it's named after what you know by two door cinema club!
in particular, the lyrics:
i can tell just what you want you don't want to be alone and i can't say it's what you know but you've known it the whole time
i was inspired by the idea of a version of sukuna that might subvert expectations based on what you know of someone (he's not exactly the person he portrays himself as to the rest of the world), and the idea that he doesn't want to be alone. he wants someone to be there for him and deep down he does know that, but on the surface, he refuses to acknowledge/accept that.
if your ask wasn't answered and you sent it yesterday, please resend it! tumblr's just feeling a lil funky or something. if you sent it over the last 12 hours or so, i still haven't replied to those yet, but they'll be queued throughout the day :))

Lmao it's fine, happy to aid in educating 😂 I had a good laugh about it
