Beautiful <3
For anyone interested, it was actually somewhat simple (after trying to get it to work for months...
For anyone interested: I downloaded Linux for Steam (also works with Lutris): https://github.com/kevinlekiller/reshade-steam-proton
as described. I actually used the newest Reshade version. It auto-detected that the Sims 2 is a 32 bit game and correctly installed everything. Then I went to the game folder and renamed d3d9.dll to d3d9.asi and put that file into my RPC mods files. That was it!
To get the depth functions to work, I used this tutorial, again.
I haven't played for longer times yet, so it's absolutely possible that the game is more prone to crashes this way. Let's see. I also need to make some more thief-ish Reshade templates.

Got Reshade working on Linux 😁 Now all that's left to do is copying over my cc and Strangetown and all that.
It kind of blows my mind how I used to play without reshade though pre like 2022-ish like how? How did I live??

Gina immediately collects on that networking bonus she got at the party last night - great job, Gina!
To celebrate, she invites over townie Addison for a proper date to see if sparks fly.
Looks promising so far ❤️

In my current game I've joined Pleasantview and Strangetown and I'm starting to redo the community lots in PV! This is 330 Main Street, originally it's a clothing store but I made it into a hair salon/spa on the top floor and then on the bottom floor it's a jewlery and sorta seperate clothing store. I've had a lot of fun renovating this. I also did 250 Main St. which i'll post pictures of later. Really excited to be finally be able to do this and post pictures along the way! These aren't edited at all as I don't have a photo editing program on my linux boot just yet. and I haven't installed reshade either.

Update: Seems like it DOES work and even the depth functions somewhat work, the problem was just a specific household...will test more later.

success!! these pictures were taken in my linux install with reshade working. no idea what went wrong, but a full lutris reinstallation seems to have fixed it
#p#ts2#that's my currently running household hehe#it's the pups in year 4 winter. presumably marie will move out this round to university#i have a weird situation with her and florian where technically she'd still get played in spring and go to uni in summer on her own#florian would go now bc he'd age in spring#but they're only one day apart in terms of aging#so i'd rather just send her early and then give her an extra day of lifespan. if he also wants to go. bc she defo does

Okay so I finally switched to Linux full-time again, we’ll see how this goes. With Valve and the Steam Deck making Linux gaming increasingly more mainstream and supported, the thought of it made me more interested in making it work again.
First time with an RPM-based distro (Fedora 42 - yes went on the testing branch because KDE is getting promoted to official edition status by this version), then Bazzite-deck on my Steam Deck (so I can get Plasma 6 🤩) so I can do the occasional rpm-ostree layering (not that I needed it much).
TS2 (using the new repack 🏴☠️) is set up, TS4 (with all the packs 🏴☠️) is set up, most of my other stuff is set up. Reshade is working on TS4, TS2 Reshade still a WIP but I might actually not need it
Will see if I can get Photoshop or at the very least my Affinity apps working. If not, I’ll get another NVMe and install Windows 11 there.

i was wondering which reshade preset you're using? i love the look of your screenshots!
thank you so much! 🥰 i actually haven't posted many pictures using reshade - most of my gameplay pictures are still from my pre-linux archive. but if you're interested in the PSD i use, i can upload it!
i call it my Peppy PSD because it just puts a little extra pep into the existing game!
Download (Dropbox)
examples of before/after shots are below the cut. the beauty of this PSD is that it works on 99% of screenshots!
I find it a little too strong on photos of sims against blank backdrops, but otherwise it tends to work very nicely, day or night.
this is not the most economical psd out there - i have tons of layers at lowered opacities making very slight adjustments. since it's mostly for personal use, it doesn't bother me, but just a heads up.
(if I can figure out how to recreate this 1:1 as a reshade preset, i'd be happy to share that too!)
#*psd#*mine#every time i share a psd i hope to make up for the searingly bright one i shared 10 years ago#forgive me for i have sinned#ts2

I have just realized I have absolutely no idea how to play this game without a bajillion mods 😅 but at least can confirm that it works. I set up lighting mod, these, UI mod and some other program files stuff. But I haven't copied over any of my cc or strangetown yet. I wanted to just make sure it ran today, but I can't wait to copy my cameras folder first because omg was tab sooooo sensitive yeeeesh. Also the pause frame needs to gtfo asap tbh I totally forgot there even was one. And I need to set up reshade. But I feel like I've already made a lot of progress on this whole linux thing in just this weekend.
