Also love your fic's read them every time you post
seeing double
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Genre: fluff
Featuring: Hughes brothers x Luke’s twin sister reader
Summary: it’s you and your twin brother luke’s 21st birthday and your brother’s Jack and Quinn have the pleasure of taking care of you both
Note: I’ve never written with the reader being a sister before, so this was new to me, but i think this still turned out cute 🫶🏼
“What time is it??”
You shouted over the music as you frantically searched the room for a phone to check yourself.
“Uhhh, 11:55.”
Your eyes wide as you quickly ran to the back door to look for the boys. Finding them all hanging around the fire pit shotgunning beers.
“Luke Warren Hughes! Get your ass in here and take a shot with me at midnight!”
It was yours and your twin brother Luke’s 21st birthday, well almost, and you were a bit more intoxicated than he was. But you were determined to change that, wanting to be sure that your twin brother was actually letting loose for the night. Luke not being much of a partier, he left that to Jack. But your older brothers were doing their best to get Luke to have more than just 2 beers for once.
The boys came in from the fire pit, joining you and your girl friends around the kitchen island as shots were passed around. Once everyone had a shot you noticed the time was now 11:58, hurrying to get out your toast before the clock struck midnight, finally signaling your birthday.
“Life is a waste of time. Time is a waste of life. So why not get wasted all the time, and have the time of our life!”
The group throwing back the shots in unison, followed by a loud roar of happy birthday. You and Luke taking another shot just the two of you as your friends recorded videos for Snapchat, Jack and Quinn both laughing at the two of you knocking back tequila like it was water.
“There’s no way we make it to breakfast with mom and dad tomorrow.”
“Not a fucking chance!”
The group had settled on flip cup and pong as the two games of choice, which was music to your ears knowing Luke was a secret weapon when drunk.
“Uh oh, it’s the Hughes showdown!!”
Quinn and Jack somehow made a miraculous comeback to face you and Luke in the final round of beer pong.
“Luke, we cannot lose to them! We will never live it down!”
Luke nodded his head through hooded eyes, the tequila shots very much hitting him like a ton of bricks. Noticing him swaying back and forth, you’d realized you were most likely carrying the team this round. Chugging some water you did your best to sober up and be sure to beat your brothers and earn bragging rights.
“It all comes down to this Lukey! Your shot, don’t fuck it up!”
Quinn and Jack teased Luke as he could barely see the cup at the opposite end of the table. Your final shot had missed by a mile, and at this point you were in desperate need of your bed. The tequila rightfully kicking your ass after one too many shots.
“Fuck.”
Luke cursed as his ball completely missed the table, bouncing off into the other room as Quinn and Jack hugged in celebration. The bragging rights would surely be held over you and Luke’s heads for months.
“Don’t sweat it Lukey boy, you’ll get a shot at revenge one day.”
Jack tapped him on the shoulder as you threw back another shot, hoping the taste of alcohol would make you forget the embarrassing display you put on in that game of pong.
By 2am, you and Luke collectively had enough alcohol for the entire Michigan Hockey Team and you were feeling it. Both of you dozing off on the couch as the party had come to an end.
“Y/n, y/n! Come on, let’s get you to bed.”
“I am in bed.” You groaned at Quinn, not wanting to move as you were very much comfortable on the couch squished next to Luke.
“Jack, can you take Luke? I’ll deal with y/n?”
Jack nodded as both boys picked the two of you up off the couch, Quinn carrying you while Jack simply threw Luke’s arm over his shoulder.
“Fuck Luke, stand up!”
Quinn laughed as Jack practically fell to the floor as Luke was purely dead weight. “Switch me, clearly your off season workouts aren’t cutting it!”
Jack rolled his eyes as he took you in his arms, letting Quinn take over with Luke.
“Jack, put me down.” The tequila now rearing its head as you grew nauseous from the boys carrying you.
“Y/n I’m taking you to bed, hush.”
Trying your best to fight out of Jack’s grip, you only made yourself more sick. Your hand immediately flying to your mouth, signaling to Jack you needed a toilet or a trash can, and fast.
“Shit, y/n don’t you dare!”
Jack sprinted to the bathroom with you in his arms, trying his best not to make the situation worse. Setting you down, he let you have a minute to hopefully settle your stomach, Jack never being good with puking.
“Do you need anything?”
He stood back as he watched you sitting on the floor, eyes closed as you took deep breaths, trying to calm your stomach.
“No, I think I’m-“
Before you could finish you were cut off by your nausea getting the best of you, Jack trying his best to be there for you despite him wanting to run as far away as possible.
“Jack, hold my hair please?”
“What? How?”
“Just grab my fucking hair like a ponytail and hold it back so I don’t puke on it!”
He cautiously made his way to you, grabbing a hold of your hair, standing as far back as he could, doing his best to distract himself from what was going on.
“Jack! Where are you?”
Hearing Quinn struggling carrying Luke down the hall, Jack called out, revealing your location only for Quinn to appear moments later.
“Fuck, I didn’t know you guys were in here….damnit.”
Quinn stopped to catch his breath as Luke groaned against his shoulder. “Quinn, I’m gonna yak.”
Jack sighed as he looked from Luke to you, wondering how he and Quinn got roped into dealing with you two knuckle heads.
“Look, I get you guys are twins, but really? Going as far as to puke together? Can’t you do anything without the other person?”

Your post of all the first overalls to girl interrupted actively makes me feel crazy. Do you have a ranking of the most compelling first overalls?
cody's list of most compelling (active) (to me) first overalls
21. aaron ekblad (2014.) i don't care for the florida panthers
20. alexis lafreniere (2020). his strongest narrative juices are a) the bust thing (he was a covid baby, it takes time) and b) maybe him also going to rimouski like sid, if you really wanted to pull it out like that. but the two of them have little otherwise connection, so not really
19. owen power (2021) this is a list ranked by compellingness and not cutieness or who i would want to provide most with feminizing hrt against their will
18. nico hischier (2017) even some of the least compelling 1oas are still quite interesting IMHO -- nico is the highest ever drafted swiss player + a very young captain on a basement team + a CHL import. all of which *are* juicy. he just lacks... i don't know, a little extra je ne sais quoi
17. macklin celebrini (2024) invoking the power of "He Literally Just Got Here" for this one. the daddy issues are a powerful offset though
16. ryan nugent-hopkins (2011). the power of the longest-tenured member of a team is quite something. earns points for not being an upper middle class rich boy either
15. nathan mackinnon (2013). controversial to put him so low i know but in my genuine and honest opinion he's way more interesting as a Character than a Part Of The Narrative. crucial divide here. i'm about to talk about slaf's personality making him interesting narratively but they do want their good canadian boys to shut up and take it and nate doesn't rebel against that. all he wants to do is win (accomplished) and fuck sidcros (negligible)
14. juraj slafkofsky (2022) just barely edges out the nuge by virtue of a) the whole First Slovak thing (see nico) and b) his new and upcoming beef with the slovak federation??? what's all that about because THAT'S juice. THAT'S spark. slaf's great because not only are his little circumstances compelling but he's also got such a Personality to him. his little rockstar attitude. his little braces. I will show him where is Slovakia. yessss girl
13. rasmus dahlin (2018). im a dahlin attention payer so he's probably higher than he "should" be but CAPTAIN OF THE BUFFALO SABRES I AM SO SORRY.
12. erik johnson (2006) hugely fascinated by his fall from grace via golf cart, which is not a route most people take. and then of course he was a crucial emotional crux of the avs up until their 2022 run and in my belief a much more important part of their fall from grace post-run than whatever landeskog is doing. and of course any flyer is relevant by nature
11. jack hughes (2019) you cannot deny the hughes are interesting narratively because they are important. he's not as interesting or as important as quinn though so obviously not as high on the list as he might have otherwise been
10. taylor hall (2010) actually super interesting because he has, throughout his entire career, been on one (1) good team (the 2022-23 boston bruins). he has a hart trophy!!! you guys know he has a fucking hart trophy right???? while they were drafting davo et al, he was an oiler. while they were drafting nico, he was a devil, while they were drafting owen, he was a sabre, and when they drafted connor bedard he was a blackhawk. always the bridesmaid, never the bride
9. steven stamkos (2008). there's always something to be said for waiting a long time to get what you want. and then once that goal's been accomplished, they throw you out.
8. connor bedard (2023) Let's Get Generational With It
7. john tavares (2009) brief let's un-get generational with it to talk about mr magic amulet breaking TWO entire playoff round curses as captain, twice. about him choosing toronto. about Him
6. auston matthews (2016) what if you were a vain shy arizona boy who wanted nothing more than to be a star and then they gave it to you and then you immediately had to learn that it's not nearly as good as you thought it was going to be. and you were actually kind of gay the whole time (im biased. this is cody sergeifyodorov's immense toronto bias. be normal)
5. patrick kane (2007)
4. marc-andre fleury (2003) the whole saga of him in pittsburgh AND the whole saga of him in vegas AND the whole saga of him in minnesota (and the brief intermission when he was in chicago) are all massive narrative moments of their own, but to have all of them? to be a goaltender that lucky and that loved for that long? it's not done. it will never be done again.
3. connor mcdavid (2015) I Love It When The Ginger Man Suffers
2. alexander ovechkin (2004) you know i could write essays on ovi. i could write dissertations. people have already done so -- i would not be the first and will not be the last if i join their ranks. i could take about the goals and the record chase. i could talk about the way he's been juxtaposed against the guy who you really should have known going in was going to be number one for his whole career. i could talk about the hunt for 2018, and the long, long time they said he was useless, no matter the record. but i will say after me. after me, i give it to you, baby.
sidney crosby (2005). obviously

11 more hot takes/unpopular opinions with DC and Marvel Comics
Tumblr media
Originally this was 10, but I had one more to mention. And remember how my first post was Marvel-centric? This one is DC-centric.
Tumblr media
Starfire and Arsenal were better Outlaws than Bizarro and Artemis and deserve another shot--I know I phrased this like a fact, but all this is subjective. I find Arsenal and Starfire more interesting characters and enjoy their chemistry with Jason and their romance with each other. I just wasn't crazy about the art we got for their run, nor the blatant oversexualization of Starfire.
Tumblr media
2. Harley Quinn and Red Hood are the next-gen Joker and Batman (and I ship it)--I've thought about this forever, but Jason's broody, solitary-except-when-he-needs-to-collaborate nature reminds me of how Batman is commonly depicted, though Jason is a more violent version. Harley, being a whimsical and goofy antihero, thus feels like the next-gen version of her ex (though I understand if you find Punchline or Joker's Daughter as more deserving of that). I'd also love her on an Outlaws team with Jason and Ghostmaker. I also always felt like they'd have better chemistry than the popular Nightwing/Harley ship (which I never really shipped, especially with how they've had Harley sexually harass him in the past). That said, this works best if Harley joined Joker post-Jason's torture.
Tumblr media
3. Jamal Campbell is the best cover artist for DC--His Nightwing art has me in a chokehold, and I love it! I also appreciate him making Nightwing curvy without it being from an ogling angle (see #5). That said, his actual work on Nightwing's issues isn't as good, but I think that's a time issue.
Tumblr media
4. Travis Moore is the best issue artist for DC right now--I fell in love the moment I saw his work on "Wonder Woman." He's who I'd want as the artist for a "Red Hood and the Outlaws" series with Starfire and Arsenal. Really want him to do Nightwing, Titans, and a Tim Drake solo. Serg Acuna is a close second, but I'm not crazy about how he draws jawlines; they're more angular while I prefer them rounded.
Tumblr media
5. DC needs to stop objectifying Nightwing--It's one thing to be sexy; that's cool, and it's something that the subject can (kind of) control. But Dick is constantly objectified and harassed, as well as being the victim of sexual assault on more than one occasion. Personally, I headcanon him "being okay" with the harassment and objectification in-universe due to the trauma of being assaulted and not wanting to make the situation worse, but in any case, he should be a superhero first, sex object second. You can have him be attractive without predominantly being eye-candy; I hate how Harley Quinn's tv show, "Gotham Knights," and "Nothing Butt Nightwing" wanna not only bring attention to him solely for his curves, but make him vain about it just so no one can criticize the harassment.
Tumblr media
6. Marvel needs to stop going the demon route with Nightcrawler (especially now)--Given Kurt's kindness and Catholic faith (that fluctuates based on the writer, I guess), his appearance as a blue creature with a tail is mainly for ironic purposes. I hate how every now and then, they like to lean into the demonic angle for him, since it undermines his character SO MUCH. Plus since his birth has been retconned (hopefully for the last time), it makes no sense to connect him with demons.
Tumblr media
7. Iceman has fallen out of favor with me--I don't think his solos have been very interesting, and it feels like they've made his sexuality a personality trait. I'd prefer he just stays a team member on an X-team (and eventually date Somnus if Daken is still unavailable).
Tumblr media
8. Major X needed a rehaul, but he had potential--I already did a post on this, but the gist is that he needed a new everything: different dad (because not everything has to circle back to the Summers-Grey clan), different powers (because OP telepaths are a dime-a-dozen), a more unique costume in design and color, having a different storyline than "I came to prevent a terrible future," and MAYBE make him from Earth-13729 because I like some of the characters. Basically just keep Storm as his mom, lol. And this isn't a must, but as an advocate for more original LGBT+ characters, making him part of the community would be neat in my book.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
9. Russell Dauterman and Lucas Werneck are the best artists at Marvel right now--This is my "argue with the wall" opinion, lol. They've made amazing art, and I wish they'd do the art for every X-Men comic, imo.
Tumblr media
10. Where are the Gargareans?--It disturbs me that in the course of 15 months, DC had two storylines about a young man abandoned by his Amazonian mother and being (understandably) bitter about it when he finds out. Not to say everything would've been fixed, but aren't the Gargareans the male counterparts to the Amazons? The circumstance of sons of Amazons being abandoned by their mothers as per the rules of Paradise Island is never resolved despite the son's frustration and hostility. It's just like "oh yeah, that happened. Moving on!"
Tumblr media
11. HiC was necessary (just not as it was)--We didn't need a murder plot for this to be good. Booster Gold and Harley Quinn being a duo with cute shenanigans around a serious premise was enough. Let these heroes get therapy once a year (or more; the issue itself could just be annual), and let us see these characters GROW, creating a stricter writing style for writing them rather than the flimsy style superheroes often face with different writers or when publishers go through a change in priority.
Hope you enjoyed this post! Any hot takes you agree with?

So Many Questions Part 3
Prompt: You’re pulled in for questioning by NCIS and are quickly surprised to see your ex-boyfriend as your interrogator.
Notes: Some characters are post season 11. Some smut ahead! @kittenlittle24
Part 2. Part 1.
“I’m here to see Agent Gibbs,” you told the security officer. Making a quick call, he nodded and let you through, now adorning a spiffy visitor pass on your chest.
You entered the big orange room with a small smile, grateful this time you weren’t here to be interrogated. You spotted Agent McGee and Bishop sitting at their desks but no sight of Jethro.
“Miss L/N. Everything alright?” McGee asked as you rounded the corner and chose a chair to sit in.
“Oh yeah, everything’s good. Except for the whole phsycho investor trying to kill me. I felt too vulnerable at my office so I came here to see if I could help in any way.”
Both agents gave you a look that you could only describe as part fear part awe.
“What’s the problem?” you asked, looking around to see if there was a big spider somewhere.
“Uh, you’re just sitting at Gibb’s desk. No one sits there except Gibbs,” Bishop answered, laughing nervously. Jeeze. Is Jethro really that intimidating that his agents are scared of a desk chair?
“Well I saw an empty seat and took it. He won’t mind I’m sure. He’s not even here.”
“Oh but I am,” you heard, turning to see Jethro walking over with a cup of coffee in hand. He stopped to stand in front of you and for a few seconds you both just stared at one another, a silent fight for dominance happening. If the chair was so important, you’d let him have it.
You stood up, now close enough to him to smell his aftershave and gave him a smirk. You always loved challenging him, but loved it more when he challenged you back, as it usually ending with him on top in the literal and figurative sense.
Stepping aside, he took a seat and you moved some of his papers so you could sit on the corner of his desk. His team looked thoroughly shocked but didn’t say anything as Jethro barked at them.
“What’d you got?”
“Well Torres and Quinn are interrogating Cheryll Reznik. She told them Ian Chandler had been talking with a man named Dominic. Bishop and I were able to connect an electronic payment he sent for 10k to a Dominic Waters. Turns out Dominic had just been released from prison about a week ago for armed robbery and aggravated assault. Perfect man for a small hit job in need of cash.”
“Then go bring him in McGee. Take Bishop with you.”
They both quickly scurried off, not wanting to be in the awkward space that you had made. Once the elevator doors closed behind them, you spun around, legs now hanging over Jethro’s side.
“Well you certainly have them trained well.”
“Yeah, they listen. Unlike you. I told you to go back to work, we’ve got this handled.”
You leaned in slightly, watching as his eyes briefly glanced down at your slightly opened blouse and then back at your eyes.
“You know how much I love pushing your buttons Jethro. Plus, I’ve been at work all day and haven’t been able to get anything done. I didn’t feel safe there without you there.”
You picked up his cup of coffee and took a sip, grimacing at the bitter taste. You forgot he liked his coffee plain.
“I’ve got an agent assigned to you when I’m not there,” he explained, taking the coffee out of your hands and taking a sip of his own.
“It’s not the same. Plus, I was thinking maybe we could get a bite to eat. Im starving and I’m assuming all you’ve had today is coffee.”
“No time. Got a killer to catch.”
“Yeah well you’ll be no good to anyone when you pass out from lack of food and an overdose on caffeine.”
He gave you the familiar look that let you know that he let you win the argument. He only ever gave it to you when he also secretly agreed with you.
Without a word, he got up and you hopped down to follow him with a triumphant smile.
————
“I don’t know why we couldn’t have gone to Duke’s. They’ve got the best beet salad,” you complained, sticking an overly cooked fry into your mouth. The little diner was cute but you were sure they weren’t known for their food.
“This place has good coffee.”
You watched him sip his probably 5th coffee of the day and rolled your eyes. Just then, your phone began ringing and you saw the caller ID as your next door neighbor.
“Hey Greg, what’s up?…What? Right now?….Can you see what he looks like?”
You listened to him give you a description and motioned to Jethro that it was important.
“Ok, no don’t confront them! We’re on our way!”
You hung up as Jethro had already gotten up and paid for the dinner.
“My neighbor just called saying someone was breaking into my place. His description was vague but it looked like they were looking for something.”
You both left the diner and sped off to your house. When you arrived, Greg was waiting out front and he gave you a hug, receiving a look from Jethro.
“They left just after I hung up with you. Took off in a blue sedan. I’m so glad you weren’t in there. I think I saw a gun.”
“Stay here,” Jethro ordered, pulling out his own gun and Greg’s eyes got wide.
“Don’t worry Greg. He’s a federal agent.”
The two of you waited as Jethro cleared the house and came back outside.
“What do you think he was looking for? Does this have anything to do with that crazy lady shooting you Y/N?” Greg asked as we all walked up the house steps.
“I’m not sure Greg, but I appreciate you calling.”
“Yeah no problem. I enjoy looking out for you,” he replied with a smile. Jethro gave him his classic hard stare and Greg cleared his throat awkwardly, smile fading.
“Alright. Well as long as you’re safe. Have a good-
The front door shut on him before he had a chance to finish his sentence and you looked at Jethro.
“He was just being nice Jet.”
“Mm-hm.”
You went around the semi trashed house, trying to figure out if anything was taken as Jethro picked up a little wooden boat from your shelf and inspected it.
“Your first gift to me. Made out of an old piece of driftwood I think you told me.”
He put it back and walked over to you as you finished putting back the couch cushions together.
“Well I don’t think anything was taken but honestly, I could be sure-
You were promptly interrupted by Jethro’s lips on yours and almost froze in shock.
When he didn’t make a move to pull away, you quickly matched his energy and wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling yourself closer.
You both took steps until you felt your back touch the hallway wall. His kisses moved from your lips to your neck as you pulled his jacket off.
“Bedroom. Now,” he spoke huskily, sparking a fire within you. Grabbing his hand, you led him down the hallway and into your bedroom that had also clearly been tossed. You could’ve cared less as the both of you got undressed, Jethro setting his gun and badge down on your bedside table and pulling you into bed.
He didn’t stay on top too long before grabbing you so that you sat atop of him, easily sinking down onto his more than ready length. You both moaned at the contact and you made quick work, rocking back and forth with Jethro’s big hands gripping your hips.
“Just like that baby,” he grunted, looking up at you as you let your head fall back in ecstasy. His hands traveled so that your breasts were being squeezed and pinched, quickly bringing you closer to your climax.
“I can’t last much longer Jet,” you panted, clenching around him, making his eyes close.
He sat up and pulled you in for another kiss, hands helping keep up your rythmic pace until you fell apart, orgasm hitting you like a freight train. He wasn’t far behind, groaning and holding you still as he filled you up, knowing you loved it when he came inside of you.
Breaths heavy as you both came down from your high, you stayed together, embracing each other. He tiredly peppered kisses on your shoulder and gently ran his fingers across your back, making you shiver.
He chuckled and pressed a kiss against your ear. “You were always so easily overstimulated.”
“Yeah well you make it so easy with your talented multi-tasking.”
Eventually, you two separated, you heading into the bathroom to clean up. When you came out, Jethro was on the phone but handed you your clothes.
“Yup. We’ll be right there.”
He hung up and finished tucking and buttoning up his dress shirt.
“That was McGee. They’ve got Dominic in interrogation. He wants to confess.”
“That’s great,” you said, getting dressed and walking over to him as he clipped his badge on and gun on. Fixing his dishelved hair, you smiled and pecked his lips.
“I hope you’ll still come by even after we nail this bastard.”
“Well someone’s gotta make sure Greg keeps his distance.”
You laughed and followed him out.

2024 feminist movie retrospective ~ day 11
It's RAPID FIRE REVIEWS TIME !! ROUND 4
I don't have enough to say about these next films to write full reviews, but i still want to mention them, these are some of the ones i watched in theaters in July/August/September of 2024.
Tumblr media
A really fun, compelling fictional story set in a real historical concept i had no knowledge of. Super interesting, beautiful locations and a close look at a culture we almost never get to see in movies. Loved that one! Very beautifully shot, good acting, interesting characters. THE best movie ending of the year bar none. I strongly recommend this one!! It's a very easy, satisfying watch that will appeal to all of you i think.

Back when the first movie came out, I was a bit disappointed. It was a good film, but I thought it was predictable and it tried too much to be a horror movie (and failed miserably at it). I enjoyed AQP2 much better, and this new one kept everything I liked from that one! It's pretty fun, it has tense moments, it has a beautiful conclusion, so overall a pretty good time :)
Lupita Nyong'o is fucking stellar as usual. Her character is interesting and pretty complex and her performance really sells this story. There's so much dignity and depth to her character, and it's a very original choice for a sci-fi thriller protagonist. I know a lot of you enjoy weak pathetic men, so you'll like Joseph Quinn in this I think. He looks AND acts like a sad wet cat lol. Speaking of cat, it must have been difficult to shoot but the cat actors who play Frodo are very good! So cute <3
The writing isn't perfect (some moments are a bit too easy and convenient) but if you enjoy creature movies, stressful movies and/or you love cats I recommend it! I love that kind of shit

With 9M tickets sold, this was the second biggest movie of the year in french theaters ; and what can I say except FRENCH CINEMA IS BACK BABYYYY!!!!! Extremely well shot, beautiful music, great acting, very elaborate and interesting costume designs and crazy locations... Even I who doesn't like period dramas had an absolute blast. I can't believe this is three hours long. The rhythm is so good that it didn't feel like that at all, it flew by.
So. Funny story, i thought i knew what the story of the Count of Monte Cristo was..? But as the plot kept going, i was thinking to myself "damn, the part i know must be pretty late in the film because i don't recognise anything." And well, that's because what i thought was the Count of Monte Cristo was actually the story of The Phantom of the Opera... 😭😭😭 as you can probably tell i'm more knowledgeable on movies than classic literature... But it's good because I was able to be surprised by every twist and turn, as I actually didn't know the story at all. The writing is terrific. Those dialogues... Chef kiss. WATCH THIS!!

THE weirdest project of the year for sure. WHO greenlit this?? They deserve a raise. This was HILAAARIOUS. The two main ladies are such original and interesting characters and the actresses (who are not famous at all) deliver one of the best performance of the year. I'm not kidding. Very interesting film-making choices, very snappy and fun dialogues, super weird and unusual characters. While it is one continuous story, the way the scenes play one after the other makes it feel like a compilation of short films (especially with the nature of the cast, it's a lot of french comedians and miscellaneous celebrities). The whole story is inspired by a crime that happened in France (probably the most famous one in recent history (i provided a link but be warned, this is about a family annihilator)) and specifically inspired by a news story where a man was mistakenly identified as the prime suspect of that crime even tho he looks nothing like him. Some parts of the film get way, WAY more dark than i could ever have expected. We see the crime happen and it's absolutely nightmarish but also super interesting, i loved the sound design. Some scenes are also downright gore and sordid. But i loved it. You wouldn't think it works to mix all these different genres in one film but it does. The film walks a fine line between creepy and funny and it does it perfectly. Can't wait to watch that one again.
While you can try if you want, i do not recommend watching this film if you're not french. Sorry. I don't think the humor holds up if you don't have the cultural references and don't know the cast. Also i just don't think the humor would translate well.

I do NOT understand why so many people hate this one?!?! Keep in mind that this is my first Ti West film, so i have nothing to compare it to. I haven't seen the rest of the "Mia Goth trilogy". But this was very fun? This is a very strange concept, it's basically an anti-horror movie. Like, every time something or someone threatens this woman, SHE destroys it. Litteraly in the first 20min there's a bloke who tries to mug her and she CBTs him graphically. Like wtffff 😭😭😭 I LOVED IT. Maxxxine might be one of the most iconic female characters of the year.
The way the film handles prostitution feels very liberal, empowerment and all that. But besides that the main character is unexpectedly treated very respectfully? Prostitution only appears in the first act if i remember correctly. We only see one graphic sexual act and it's on screen for like 10 seconds, and it doesn't involve the main character. She never gets even partially naked, like at some point she is asked to show her breasts at a casting call and it just cuts away pretty naturally. When there's gore and physical violence on screen, it's more often than not against men. Definitely an oddity for the horror genre.
The film is also a pastiche of 70s/80s cinema and it works super great. It's shot on film and it looks beautiful, the editing and the sound design are very intentional and purposeful, it's all well thought out, down to the credit that appear with this super recognisable hue around the text, this brings you back to the 70s instantly. The performances are top notch. Elizabeth Debicki is great as usual, Mia Goth is off the charts. She oozes style and charisma. The film has a super fun and satisfying ending, i loved the commentary about the satanic panic. I'm very curious about the rest of the trilogy now! I'll try to watch it this year. I really liked this project ! Maxxxine marry me
trailer
That's it for July/August/September ! I also went to see Fly me to the Moon, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, Les Fantômes and The Trouble with Jessica but i have nothing whatsoever to say about them...

2024 Year-End Reading Wrap-Up
Reading-wise, I think 2024 was about diligence. I kept reading even when I felt slumpy. I managed my goals of minimum one book off my physical TBR per month, minimum 20 non-fiction titles, and 75 of the books I wanted to get to. I didn’t do so great at keeping my book acquisition down, but at least I got rid of as many as I took in (and a lot of the books I bought were used or cheap). I even took in fewer reading copies and managed to pass on a fair number of them! I didn’t quite get to my 2023 total of 128 books and I didn’t quite manage 45,000 pages, only 44,865, but that’s okay. They’re kind of wild goals and I got darn close. Of the 126 books I did read, 29 were off my TBR and 38 were reading copies. That means that 59 were library books, which, thank goodness for libraries! This is why I donate to mine every year.
What I didn’t do so well on were most of my other goals. (2023 for comparison.) I’m still steadyish on Canadian and female authors, steadyish on classics, up on authors of colour (!), but sadly way down on gender-diverse authors. I’m going to have to find more enbies and genderqueer folks I want to read, but that’s hard as it still seems like most non-binary fiction goes towards the dark and grim and realistic and most of my reading choices goes towards the light and hopeful. I will happily take suggestions.
I’m most bummed, though, about breaking my StoryGraph reading streak of 567 days. I went home for Christmas on a late-night flight and the next day, I was just not awake enough to read dense non-fiction. I am looking forward to outdoing myself on this new round.
Yearly total: 126, excluding rereads and picture books Queer books: 37 (29%) Authors of colour: 19.5 (15.4%) Books by women: 77.5 (61.5%) Authors outside the binary: 3 (2%) Canadian authors: 12 (9.5%) Classics: 7 (5.5%) Off the TBR shelves: 29 (23%) Books hauled: 47 Books unhauled: 47 ARCs acquired: 40 ARCs unhauled: 46.5 DNFs: 10 Rereads: 3 Picture Books: 11
Outside of the stats and goals, I think my choice to mostly leave Tumblr was a good one. I’m feeling a lot less pressure to read The Right Things or whatever everyone else is, and less pressure to be constantly posting, though I do miss seeing what you all are reading. Please, please, feel free to tag me in reading wrap-ups and reviews, especially if you think it’s a book I’d be interested in. I do check my mentions regularly. (Friendly reminder that I’m ninjamuse on Storygraph and LibraryThing, if you’d like to follow me there.) And not posting as much as helped me get more writing done. I’m not quite finished the first draft of the cozy fantasy WIP, but I’m within sight of it, if I manage to get my mojo back after Extreme Retail Season.
My goals are 2025 are fairly reasonable and predictable. 126 books and 40,000 pages, and I've set up StoryGraph challenges to encourage myself to read 50 new releases and 50 backlist titles. I'm going to try for 20 non-fiction again too, though this year that was very much by the skin of my teeth. And of course, the enby author thing. And I'm going to finish the dang WIP and restart an old one. Wish me luck?

Hughes poised to follow Eichel, Matthews as NHL’s next great American
November 11, 2017
Tumblr media
This week, nearly 200 of the best teenage hockey players from five nations descended on northern British Columbia for Hockey Canada’s World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. It’s a tremendous event, in most cases the first major international tournament for skaters who will go on to form the backbone of the national teams for the globe’s major hockey powers.
Even though the players are 16, or in a few cases 15, the speed and skill is outstanding. Two-thirds of the first-round picks in last summer’s NHL draft played in the 2015 tournament. For major-league scouts, it’s an early opportunity to get a look at the best prospects who are going to be available two years down the line.
This year, there’s no doubt that Jack Hughes is the best of them.
The Americans have sent some great players to the event in recent years. Jack Eichel went in 2013, putting up three points in five games for a team that finished third. Auston Matthews fared better the next year, with eight points in six games and a gold medal.
Hughes compares favourably to both, especially in his work with the National Team Development Program generally and with his performance at this event. He has 11 points through five games, and this iteration of Team USA will finish no worse than second.
This doesn’t necessarily mean Hughes will match the early careers of Eichel and Matthews. Colin White outscored Matthews by an order of magnitude at the 2014 tournament; Sonny Milano did the same to Eichel the year before. All are good players, but to do what Eichel and Matthews did, Hughes is going to need to have two monstrous development years between now and the 2019 NHL draft.
The man entrusted by his nation to ensure that development happens is John Wroblewski.
Even by the standards of this tournament, which is used to develop coaches for the national program in the same manner as players, Wroblewski is young. He came up through the national program with Ron Hainsey, whose playing career is still going strong in the NHL, but at age 36 Wroblewski is already a seasoned coach. A decade behind the bench has taken him to the ECHL (where he was voted coach of the year by his peers in 2012) and AHL, as well as to the junior level and tournaments like this one.
For Wroblewski, what sets Hughes and linemate Cole Caufield apart is the work they do when the scouts aren’t watching.
“The thing that I’ve always been impressed with those guys is just their day-to-day, how they carry themselves,” Wroblewski said. “They’ve got the skill but it’s also their passion for the game and how hard they practice. They’re in the shooting room before practice and afterwards and asking for video and learning all the time. There’s not a drill they take off either. Hughes is always asking for our hardest drills, our angling drills and our skating drills. He’s a kid that appreciates the grind.”
Put another way, Hughes practices like the son of a coach, which he is. Jim Hughes coached in the AHL, KHL and NHL and then had a long run as the Toronto Maple Leafs’ director of player development. Jack’s older brother Quinn is a top prospect for this summer’s draft and his younger brother Luke is already on the radar for 2021.
Asked about the value of a family with such ties to the game, something he shares with teammates like Danny Weight, Ryder Rolston and Alex Turcotte, Hughes offered a fairly typical hockey soundbite.
“We all love the game here,” he said, shrugging. “We’re all just trying to play our best and work hard every game. Our work ethic is there every game and that’s what we’re striving for.”
The pivot to work ethic, the desire to reflect all merit on the team as a whole rather than the individual; both of these are typical hockey virtues and don’t offer much insight on the individual other than that he’s internalized those values. In context, though, it’s perhaps telling that Hughes’ first thought when asked about his hockey heritage was love of the game.
In some ways that’s obvious, in others counterintuitive. We often refer to the endless hours in the gym, in the video room and at practice as work, because it is a tremendous amount of work. But when Wroblewski says that Hughes “appreciates the grind” it’s because he, like so many other elite athletes, revels in it.
“I’ve been around some really special players through this program throughout the years and from a young age they have that knack of what it takes to put in the effort,” the coach explained. “For guys like that it’s not work. For guys like that it’s a desire and it’s a passion and it’s something that burns inside them.”
It’s easy to see Hughes’ passion on the ice, and it’s not just that he competes. His vision, his ease with the puck, his apparently effortless skating all betray a joy for the game and imply an underlying love for the detail and hard work that it takes to develop those skills. His off-ice stoicism may offer little evidence of that love, but his game is steeped in it.

#1 Bears Roll Past #8 Rams 76-7
Cal Will Host Quarterfinal Round In Berkeley
BERKELEY – The west region No. 1 California rugby team scored 12 tries by seven different players and held No. 8 Colorado State to only one try to clinch the D1A National Collegiate Championship First Round victory and advance to the quarterfinals. The Golden Bears will host the west region quarterfinal contest in Berkeley on Saturday and face No. 5 Arizona.   "Colorado State put together a fine season and advancing to the postseason is no small accomplishment, they should be congratulated," Cal head coach Jack Clark said. "I am appreciative of our team's efforts today and in the buildup this past week."   Cal sent out a first-15 that featured nine underclassmen, including six freshmen, to face the Rams in the single-elimination postseason contest. Freshman Talan Jones punched in Cal's first try of the day and senior Kealan O'Connell added the extras to take an early lead at the fourth minute.   Colorado State intercepted a faulty Bear pass after the restart and carried the ball into the tryzone for its only score of the afternoon. The Rams converted and the score was level at the sixth minute.   The Bears retook the lead four minutes later, this time with freshman Oliver Teague picking it from the back of a scrum and carrying it into the tryzone. O'Connell scored and converted his own try two minutes later and freshman Chris Biller scored his first of two tries at minute 16.   Sophomore Quinn Spieker chased down a chip on the wing and touched down the ball for his first try of the day and Biller scored his second a few minutes later. Spieker added one more try as the half expired to extend the Bears' lead going into the break.   After the intermission, Cal remained in control and sent sophomore Jack Byszio racing into the tryzone for a score at minute 46. Spieker made it a hat trick and dotted down his third try of the afternoon seven minutes later.   O'Connell logged a second try just three minutes later before sophomore Tommy Rainsford scored back-to-back tries in minutes 62 and 71 to add to the scoreline. O'Connell was 7-for-11 on conversion kicks while junior Cormac Saint went 1-for-1 on the extras to make it 76-7 in favor of the Bears at the final whistle.

Chicken Salad Quinn Pt 11: The Loss
Other Parts: Pt. 1 Pt. 2 Pt. 3 Pt. 4 Pt. 5 Pt. 6 Pt. 7 Pt. 8 Pt. 9 Pt. 10
Quinn slammed the door to his apartment and stomped into the bedroom. Throwing his hockey bag to the floor, he fell face first down onto his bed, feeling the tension deep in his shoulders.
He squeezed his eyes tight, replaying the last minute of the game in his head.
The Canucks had made it to round 3 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. This was game 6/7 and the Canucks were tied with the Kraken 3-3. There was 15 seconds left on the clock and Quinn had a breakaway. He was mere inches from the goal and could see his shot perfectly, but all of a sudden he felt air beneath his skates and his back hit the ice.
The buzzer sounded, indicating that the period was over. They were gonna have to go into overtime.
The Kraken were able to score a point 1 minute into overtime, kicking the Canucks out of playoffs.
Y/N walked in from the bathroom, towel wrapped around her. She started when she saw Quinn on the bed, concern evident in her face.
"Huggy? You ok?" She asked, reaching out to touch his back. Quinn jumped, so lost in his thoughts he hadn't heard her coming out.
"We lost, Y/N. We had the game in the bag, and then everything fell apart in the last few minutes. It's so frustrating."
Y/N reached out and gently placed a hand on Quinn's arm, offering him a sympathetic smile. "I'm sorry, Quinn. I know how much you put into every game. But hey, you'll get them next time."
Quinn let out a heavy sigh, feeling the weight of disappointment slowly lifting from his shoulders as Y/N's words sank in. He leaned into her comforting touch, grateful for her unwavering support even in his darkest moments.
"You're right, Y/N," Quinn said, a hint of relief creeping into his voice. "Thanks for being here for me. It means a lot."
Y/N squeezed Quinn's arm affectionately. "Always, Quinn. I'm here for you no matter what."
As they sat together in comfortable silence, Quinn felt a sense of peace wash over him. The anger and frustration from the game began to fade away, replaced by a deep sense of gratitude for the person sitting beside him. With Y/N by his side, he knew he could weather any storm, on or off the ice.
"Now Y/N, I think it's time to get rid of this towel..."
a/n: Wow things are starting to get a bit spicy between Y/N and Quinn! Also screw the Oilers for kicking our Huggy out of the playoffs irl.
