Toni enjoying the challenge of brainwashing a new species (and also the noises Naomi makes) and underneath all the dread Naomi feeling a strange sort of satisfaction at the release of being on the other end of the drill for once, not having to be the one making decisions

we talked about it before (here most extensively) but the detail of naomi feeling release on the other end of the drill.... 😵‍💫. when she was never supposed to be in charge of anything, she was a technician first and foremost, and then suddenly it was her responsibility to Keep Heaven Together. toni takes her back to factory settings and it feels like coming home

Dean/cas 6 parter?

the 6-parter is based on the idea for a Castiel-centric prequel/sequel that I posted about here. Cas is back in heaven, and is presented with the opportunity to regain the memories that Naomi took from him, and it's the story of Cas striving towards freedom through those memories, but never quite getting there until he meets Dean.

I don't have much written, it's just one page of rough ideas about how to structure the story. But here's what I've got:

Themes: love and freedom

Build towards Anna’s fall, Cas not being ready to join her.  She makes her final decision when she finds out about their memories being taken maybe? Or she never knows about it?  “We’ll be siblings, we’ll grow up together” and kisses Cas before she goes.  Cas in 1901 body, a facsimile of it in heaven. 

Could track with the migration of his vessel-family bloodline maybe? From central/west Asia, to Poland, to the USA.

Nothing falls in place precisely until Dean. Freedom, humanity, love. Family? Have scenes with Dean interspersed that are on-theme

Crisis towards the end where Dean has to talk him down from his full true form?. 

Start with riff on "I remember many things" speech. 

Script format?

One: Introduction, setup, start of first memory Two: Conclusion of first memory, second memory. Seems very adventure-trope like.  Three: third memory, something goes wrong. One with Anna maybe? All angels are broken?  Four: Looking for answers outside the memories. Scene with Jack, Naomi?  Five: Final memory, key to bringing things together. Seems like a solution, things go wrong one last time?  Six: Bring Dean in in a big way. 

Could do Cas being reset to factory settings. Entirely healed and repowered, no memories. Then Dean brings him back. 

Angels as the beta test. Chuck did try the story with Michael and Lucifer first after all. But first too rebellious, then too obedient. Chuck fucked around with them too much and then they broke. But they were still good for an army. Chuck made obvious rookie mistakes in writing, overpowered protagonist, overboard with the cool features, etc. 

Getting god back in the reactor to power heaven - into the arc. 

Jack can let the original god memories speak through him, maybe?

Summary

This isn’t how he had imagined it. He’d imagined it lots of ways, but most vividly, he’d imagined it as something intimate – his vessel’s blood indelibly on Dean’s hands. Dean – an angrier crueller Dean, in theory, though the difference doesn’t seem to mean much – being brought back to himself by the shock of it. The Mark’s effect lessened – countless people protected – by the reality of Dean landing a killing blow against Cas. And maybe Dean wouldn’t quite be aware how willingly the gift had been given, but it would stay with him all the same. Cas’s devotion would be immortalised by the effect it had on Dean, and even if Cas knew he wouldn’t be around to see it, he would feel it in that final moment, as in Dean’s hand his own angel blade went home, the confirmation… Only now Cas’s son is standing behind him. Cas can’t tell which of them is shaking.

hello! and thank you!!

so this fic is inspired by the incredible cangel AU gifset that @whatisyourchildhoodtrauma made that I honestly really need to actually work on and finish

He appreciates Doyle because he needed… something to keep the deep void of guilt from swallowing him whole but frankly, he’s not sure how much these missions are helping. Sure, it’s nice to save the day and help someone—plus the added bonus of often getting to kill something, to satisfy the demon within—but he still feels the void slowly encroaching, a sense of darkness that hangs over him like a muddy, gray rainstorm. And with it, comes the question that he finds so difficult to face: if this is his so called purpose, his reason for being, then why does he feel so lifeless?

"Can I change the Impala's oil, Dean?" Castiel asks, looking at him fully. "It seems so simple when the men on youtube do it."

And then it hits him, blunt and brutal and heavy, and he steps back, stares at Jack again, takes him in fully. Wanting to be wrong. Finding no sign that he is. “Jack, what have you done?”

Jack is—taken aback, it seems, flinches, almost. “I thought—I had to help. I helped, Castiel.”

“Well,” Balthazar mutters. “Really is a chip off the old block, isn’t he, that one?”

Which is unfair. Jack is stronger than Castiel ever was; that he’s still himself is a testament to that. But perhaps it’s not totally wrong, either.

35) describe your favorite stuffed animal. i don't have her any more she's called ollie (nickname for olivia) she was a little dog that my pen pal olivia sent me when we were younger. we became pen pals because we had the same heart condition, she lived in california i believe. sadly we fell out of touch and i donated ollie but i remember her fondly!

Being killed by the leader she had so looked up to was one thing – it’s quite another for Rachel to come back to a world overridden by leviathan, and with Castiel incapacitated and in need of her care. It’s another still to be forced to share this duty with a demon.

But there’s something about Meg that compels Rachel, despite her sharp tongue and sharper other things. Or maybe even because of them. Maybe in this topsy-turvy world she’s okay with letting Meg corrupt her a little too.

1. How many words have you written this year? 19,855. I'm actually shocked by this number tbh. It was more than I expected.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)? I'm proud of my qaf fic where you belong. Brian/Michael is a ship that has a very special place in my heart and I've wanted to write something for them for a long time. I'm really glad that I was able to finally contribute a fic to this underappreciated ship. It's nothing too special, but it's special to me.

15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you? All the WIPs currently in my WIPs file, tbh.

A few days after the firing range incident, Dean had introduced Cas to the magic of Putlocker. They sat next to each other on Dean’s bed, the heat from the laptop battery mixing with the heat from Cas’ thigh pressed against Dean’s. Dean angled the laptop screen towards Cas, letting him scroll though the titles. Problem was, Cas seemed to pick movies based entirely on how pretty he thought the posters were. After Dean gently steered him away from a number of films that prominently featured sunsets and women in old fashioned dresses, Dean decided to lay down the law.

“Look, Cas…” he started, but then came up short. There either weren’t words for what Dean wanted to say, or when he came close to finding them, they sounded kinda stupid. You’re not allowed to watch those kinds of movies? Cas was nothing if not a rebel, so that was sure to be a dead end. You’re a guy, and guys don’t go for that kind of stuff? Cas was already getting down on himself about his sudden lack of expertise in everything. Listening to music, watching movies was supposed to be the easy part of being human; so Dean wasn’t about to tell him he was doing that wrong too. If you don’t act right, you’ll let him down. They’ll see through you and then you’ll be nothing? Dean didn’t even know where that thought came from or what it meant, and he quickly shoved it to the back of his mind.

“I actually have a plan,” Dean ended up saying.

“A plan?”

“Yeah, like a curriculum,” Dean bullshitted. “Best movies of all time. Must-sees for any human.”

Cas nodded. “Well, you’ve been a great teacher so far.”

Dean could feel heat rising in his cheeks, and the corner of his mouth twitching up involuntarily.

“Where do we start?” Cas asked

“With the classics, of course,” Dean answered, and typed “A fistful of dollars” into the search bar.

The funny thing is that when I started writing Life Skills, and even after I posted chapter 1, I didn't conceptualize masculinity as The Issue of the fic. It was just An Issue, along with Dean’s general obliviousness. It wasn't until I got to the end of chapter 2 that I realized I had to make more of a thing out of Dean’s masculinity issues, so I went back and added this scene.

One thing that was fun about this fic was the sense of intimacy between Dean and Cas when they're hanging out, and finding ways to show their closeness. Like Dean pouring syrup all over Cas' food, or putting his hands all over Cas when he's teaching him pool. The thing about their thighs touching, and the heat from the laptop battery was one of those things.

About Dean's inner monologue -- the thing that makes this whole fic really work for me, is that Dean's hangups are so inwardly directed. Like, he's not coming down hard on Cas for Being A Man Wrong and Violating Man Rules. He's internalized all of it so much, he genuinely believes that it's vitally important to know How To Behave (and that belief is backed up by experience), and he takes that belief for granted. Everything he does is because he wants to help Cas. Like, he's just so genuinely sharing and teaching. It's the caretaker aspect of Dean's personality that comes through. And in the end, it's the desire to help Cas, that originally compelled him to teach Masculity to Cas, that compels him to disregard the demands of masculinity.

So yeah, that little internal monologue about needing to act right shows that. That Dean's not just unthinkingly perpetuating stereotypes or anything, his anxieties are deep-seated and significant. And he's motivated by good intentions.

And while Dean's having this inner tug of war, him and Cas are almost cuddling and smiling and blushing at each other, and I just love that vibe.

hello i've um. done all those. it's very amusing to me that you basically happened to choose the same questions as marissa, that's very cute.

i will go back to 3 again for a double dip, though.

3. what fic are you emotionally attached to?

it's still true that i'm attached to i fold in half so easily and getting serious, but also i'm attached to certain fic for other reasons. @spriteofmushrooms cheerlead me through the writing process of a number of my fics, most memorably i fold in half so easily. you cheerlead me through so much smoke in a hall of mirrors and goldfish, and your anon spurred me to work more on getting serious. i didn't do much of the actual work on the real finale, leo @davidfosterwallaceandgromit wrote most of that, but i'm extremely attached to it because leo and i brainstormed that together literally the weekend after the finale and that, more than anything else, is how we became friends, and i have a lot of warm fuzzy memories of that.

writing is an essentially social activity for me, like, even though i very much write for myself in terms of motivation and the choices i make, the genesis of ideas is very much shaped by interacting with other people. like conversation is inspiration.

Before wiping her tears and going to lobotomize another angel. Mary horrified because she sees similar behaviors in dean and sam. What happened to her family??? But also. Late in life lesbian Mary, who uh, maybe eroticizes being 'fixed' bc thats the only way she has to cope with being forced to breed with John and have two children (literal sacrificial lambs) against her will.
