we've been helping mohammed and his family (including a 2 month old) fundraise since august last year, they've had to close their gfm and reopen it recently. they cant take care of sharing it or doing social media stuff, we're the only lifeline they have. they just got back to the north of gaza a couple of weeks ago and now israel has broken the ceasefire and resumed bombing the gaza strip.

albedo is a natural educator. there's hardly a moment where his field of study isn't bouncing around in his mind. with sucrose and timaeus, he keeps his teachings succinct and formal. when he's sharing his recent findings with you, however, it's a different story. his monotonous voice takes on a lively cadence. comparatively speaking, at least. no one else is privy to his nerdy side. self-consciousness catches up, when he notes thirty minutes have gone by and he's only on his second of ten samples.
there you sit. bundled up to stave off the dragonspine's unforgiving weather, contentedly sipping hot cocoa he had ready for your arrival (a suggestion from klee). you tilt your head and ask why he's stopped. it's in that instant he realizes miracles aren't limited to physical manifestations. they can come in any form. even one as simple as you trying to resume the conversation, despite getting tongue-tied by the alchemical jargon.

if you ever happen upon albedo's dense collection of relationship-related reading material, please keep it to yourself, lest he die of embarrassment. he wants to get this right! interpersonal relationships aren't his forte, he's not so blinded by pride to acknowledge this shortcoming. he knows he can be blunt and accidentally trample over feelings. he refuses to seek the counsel of his peers, which leaves him at the mercy of klee's tutelage.
he hypothesizes that the lack of self-awareness in children makes them conducive to offering unfiltered advice. gift-giving is her field of choice and her standards are high. almost every trinket, flower, or artwork you've received has undergone rigorous quality control. he was amazed that this klee verification system went over so well with you, hence his reoccurring patronage.

One obvious (to me) omission is the mention of how all of this affects disabled folks. You have people already heavily discriminated against for being different now being expected to jump through additional hoops to prove their humanity.

But some corporate professionals are turning instead to old-fashioned social engineering techniques to verify every fishy-seeming interaction they have. Welcome to the Age of Paranoia, when someone might ask you to send them an email while you’re mid-conversation on the phone, slide into your Instagram DMs to ensure the LinkedIn message you sent was really from you, or request you text a selfie with a timestamp, proving you are who you claim to be. Some colleagues say they even share code words with each other, so they have a way to ensure they’re not being misled if an encounter feels off. ... (context: i'm in the USA, so i am only speaking to my experience)
so, i run job trainings for a living. help ppl with figuring out how to write resumes, how to do interviews. etc. and this does, of course, include all the ways a seedy job will attempt to discriminate against marginalized people.
i just want to point out that anything you say in an interview can be used to invalidate hiring you, so do not overshare!!! i saw a post going around making the good point of exactly this. if you're asked if you'll have reliable transportation, Just Say Yes. if you're asked if you'll have any difficulties at work, say No. -- if you need accommodations, wait until you have already been hired to figure that process out.
but there's two things on that post that are irritating me. 1) generally i actually tell anyone i'm advising please don't get in the habit of outright lying. because if you don't know how to speak about yourself and your skills honestly, you can lose an understanding of if your real skillset is actually enough for a job, causing anxiety or imposter syndrome or anything else. i get where it comes from but for your own sake just understand that you can be honest without oversharing or sabotaging your chance at a job. ex: saying yes, you have reliable transit. and leaving it at that. and saying that bc you take the bus. that's not a lie!!! it is reliable!!! if you genuinely think you can make it work to be there reliably on time, then saying yes there is not a lie!!!
second thing is more broad but i feel like a lot of ppl do not know what hippa actually is or applies to. and this worries me bc if you get in a conflict with your employer bc you read on tumblr dot com that if they ask abt your sick day, theyre Violating HIPPA, and you argue at them about it, like, you could lose your job and i do not want that for you bc you would have no recourse (especially in at-will states). most states have different laws and policies regarding work. there isn't a one size fits all understanding. you NEED to do Your Own Research for your state and where you work. and also. hippa is not an all encompassing protection. it primarily applies to healthcare providers you see, not releasing your information to others. your employer literally can ask you about your sick day if you take one. if you are in a position where you need extended sick leave, they actually need a lot More information. i had to take 4 weeks off work for a surgical procedure and i needed to provide literal pages of information and verification to get it approved.
please don't listen to just anyone on tumblr, including this post bc i'm too tired to do a deep dive or link sources. so please take this as a dissent that is a sign to please look more into everything and don't get your understanding of federal/state law procedure from only one place, least of all a social media site

that i came this far was a surprise, even to me.
i mean, it wasn't unique. i'd interviewed at this specific broadcaster twice. people love my stupid CV with 'award-winning' (yes I won 2nd prize for my reporting some years back) and the name brand of the wire agency they all love.
but yeah. i came this far, again.
i've been thinking of this job in general. of seeing if i could still do it, the breaking news aspect of it all. the fact i quit to try to do something else and then Flunked Out of the something else is really jarring isn't it?
and then there's the unemployable stuff. i mean, i do community organising on the side. i do that pretty loudly too. in effect, my efforts have caused some change, at the domestic paper i worked for, and hopefully on the pan-Asian level. but yeah you wouldn't consider 'being trans' a value here. i can't put that on a resume because it outs me immediately
i should have dropped it. i shouldn't have picked up the second interview round at this broadcaster. i guess i wanted to see if i could still do it, four years after aspiring to be the best reporter from my batch at J-school and two years leaving my niche visual verification position.
if i spoke to my 24-year-old self, they'd have probably asked me why i wasn't on track to the goal we set out at the start. they'd probably have asked what we did in this time. they might be happy that I am a girl but they wouldn't be happy that I couldn't be a girl and an esteemed journalist at the same time. they might wonder why i felt overwhelmed. 'keep running', they might say.
they'd been full of energy then. they would be terrified about how the world was, but they were full of energy. to do things. to change things for the better.

It is on behalf of the other mods of this blog that I apologize for the previous posts and uncouth behaviour that have been on display.
It has been very unprofessional of us, and a lesson has been learnt that communications in the future should be due differently. I am also regretful that our verification process for facts has not been as rigorous as it should be.

I adore all of your primary documentation research on the Lewis Nixon family et al. It's brilliant.

As for the date on the their marriage. In Grace Umezawa's obituary at the mortuary that did her funeral, meaning her family wrote & provided the obituary, it says "In 1956, Grace married Lewis Nixon."

I am not sure why the Nixon's themselves consistently list THIS DATE as the time of their marriage. But they do. Lewis certainly had the financial means to make the legal fact of a marriage just a formality--esp if Irene wasn't going to make a big deal about it. Who else would question it.
(I did have a question in my head about anti-miscegenation laws since Loving v Virginia wasn't until 1967. But CA overturned their interracial marriage ban in a 1948 case and NJ, NY never had state bans on interracial marriage. Obviously there was huge social stigma esp in the 1950s but....the money! big protection factor.)
As to Grace using 'Grace Nixon' on her official documentation but seemingly without the marriage cert or legal name change--I can tell you that at least in my own family--name changes happened all the time and there were far fewer, if any, verification steps. My own grandmother, same generation as Lewis, just used a different first name on everything--driver's license, passport, mortagage--Everything! She's 'Corrine' and not her legal first name, 'Doris.' She never even filed a legal name change after her marriage to change her last name. Just used it. It was hell for my dad to sort out after her death because we have SUCH different legal documentary requirements now. By our standards, she lived under an alias for almost her entire adult life.
With the protections of money & confidence, and having the man in question backing her up, I have no doubt that Grace could have just started using 'Grace Nixon' in the late 1950s and nobody would have questioned it or asked for anything other than a signature.

I have NO idea what is going on I am glad there is a fandom here to talk about this TBH because these WW2 men make me crazy. I'm just talking things out here because I need to talk these theories through, so don't mind me,
I know the obit says 1956 and honestly I just keep going back to Dick's book. At the time of Grace's death only her siblings George and Dorothy were still alive and around her same age +/- 94 yo. I really want to say they got the date right but without the marriage license, defaulting to wikipedia or Dick Winter's records really is a lot easier than worrying about it. Unlike JoAnn Lipton, Grace got an obituary that was about her being an amazing woman and not her husband's resume So the date being wrong/right...I guess we'll wait on the docs to arrive to see what they say.
But yeah, in wading though some stuff for the Chuck Grant shooting I have definitely seen a play fast and loose with names and go with 'it's my word that I'm who I say I am'. "We didn't do that back then". LOL Okay sure. Everyone I look into has a completely outrageous story surrounding them.
The other thing is that if he was married in 1956 then he was still close enough to Dick to ask him to be witness or best man (And I don't see him having a ton of friends...and Dick was still his BEST friend at that point. I feel like he could have taken a day off to see Nix happy , especially if he didn't think Irene was ever good enough for him. But Dick hates taking time off so IDK.) but Grace says it was nice to finally meet Dick in a note in 1983. So...another IDK.
Plus we have Nix selling Stanhope's property and Irene on the paperwork as his wife in 1960. Both of them in San Francisco for his birthday and calling Princeton their address.
I'm sure Nix could have divorced/separated/ whatever Irene if he wanted to but the timeline of Irene dying to making Grace the new Mrs. Nixon feels like he didn't. And if Irene was sick (speculation, I just don't see why she would stay in the US as divorced or separated or why he wouldn't just divorce and marry Grace. Irene HAS to know she was the mistress at one point and what Lew is like. I'm grasping at straws here and I can't obtain the death cert because it's too recent. ) I can see it making things weird to divorce your dying wife, but this is like living a double life at that point. Or maybe Grace was busy being a nurse/flight attendant/musician/homeowner and fine with him being a sometimes boyfriend?
The 1956 date in relation to Blanche's death in Nov. 1955 also feels like it would be been a great excuse for Lew to be lost in a bottle and Irene to be done with him, but also a reason she probably would have put up with more. She's been through post war adjustment, death of his Mom. Being there, discovering Blanche's body, then being interrogated by investigators about it? 1956 just feels like too soon to be leaving her and remarrying. But I am projecting here. I'm strictly going off the legal documents I can get my hands on.
But I am really guessing at this point. I can predict moves based on previously established events, but understanding why is another thing.
My biggest question is what happened in 1956? Stanhope's wife mentions Lewis and wife stopped by to see her before going home? I think Dick is out in Pennsylvania at this time building his house one rock at a time, so maybe Ethel got a call from her sister and told her the latest gossip? Hey, your best man is visiting that "Blonde" you talked about.
