I'm actually going to lose my mind right now. You have people on tiktok arguing on this post that retaining what you've read in a book isn't important, it's just about the vibes and the experience. And the window they gave is three books in one week.

I said, "If you aren't retaining what you read, then you likely didn't comprehend it in real time. Whether that was because you have poor comprehension skills, the writer is just shit at writing, or your writing style preference wasn't compatible with the writer's. Regardless, comprehension did not occur."

I think it’s interesting that Solas has been awake for only a year of his long life. It’s interesting and it explains some things, I think. He has never been really awake before, ever ever, that whole long time. Arlathan was connected to the fade. After the Veil, he was still asleep - that is, he was still in the Fade. He never experienced hard “reality” until very very recently.

interestingly this means that by the time of inquisition, Cole has actually spent more time “awake” than Solas has 🤔

Solas has watched reality from the fade, where we are told many times and by him that your emotions shape what you see.

So the things that this realization explains to me:

It makes more sense why he would sound so surprised and delighted and horrified by things. He truly has never experienced this before, and is maybe experiencing it with a kind of sharpness he isn’t used to. I think he zigzags back and forth between hard denial of everything being real and “ooh look, the nugs have come out to spy the giants passing their home”

it could maybe explain some of his errors in judgment. Like Cole and Justice, he’s testing the waters of what it means to be awake, and he’s stepping on toes. Things that worked in the Fade don’t work here.

He was sooo comfortable in the Fade quest, like more than Cole. He also returns to the Fade in dreams as often as he can…. he’s really comfortable with his pov.

it makes sense now why his romance starts in the Fade, the place where he feels so at home that he isn’t on guard

it makes sense that romance in general would hit him differently when it takes place in reality. The question was “how could this romance mean anything if he’s so old and experienced- this is his first time doing any of it while really awake. It was real, he says, and it seems “real” has a new meaning to him by trespasser

anyway mostly it makes me think 💭 when I remember he has infinite life experience but also, somehow, less life experience than Cole. I want to see what his reaction was for the first few hours after he woke up.

For the ama could you explain how it affected your muscle mass and also things like your jawline and how quickly those things changed for you? And Were there any changes in general that you weren't expecting or are less talked about?

my jawline and muscle mass are DEFINITELY different. im like 160kg (~350lbs) so obviously it looked a little different for me than other people but like. my shoulders are broader, my thighs and biceps are thicker, my forearms and calves are more defined. i look like i lift weights even tho i do fuckall all day LMAO

my jawline definitely changed first but ive been getting comments on my shoulders since i was around a year and a half on T so it happened pretty quickly

for things i didnt expect: when you first start T your body has to adjust to suddenly having a lot of testosterone in it and that manifests itself as secondary period symptoms that take a while to go away - mainly my face was really swollen for about 7 months and i was worried it was permanent lol. IT ISNT thank god but ppl dont really mention that despite how common it is so i was blindsided a bit

Thinking about how Raf decides to run Hi-Note, turning it from a recording studio to a proper label* with a bit of a catch.

Specifically, Raf mandates Hi-Note to find musicians who've fallen through the industry's cracks or play to extremely niche audiences--and provide them the space and financial security to produce music in whatever capacity they're capable of. Hi-Note is able to market and distribute records/recordings, and it accepts that it'll lose money on the majority of the artists that sign onto it. It's run as a business on paper, but its goal isn't to raise capital. Raf's... from a wealthy family who runs a wealthy corporate machine. He gets paid a fuckoff amount of money every year just for existing, and he only inherits more as time goes on. He doesn't need Hi-Note to be financially viable. Rather, Hi-Note kinda becomes the seive through which he's able to pay steady patronage to musical talent that might otherwise have never been able to get a foothold via the more standard industry avenues, granting money/resources to them so they can comfortabley produce the music they love producing and reach a wider audience for that music than they might have been able to on their own. If an artist manages to make decent profit, the cut Hi-Note receives circles right back around again to help support the label's artists who don't generate profit. So, in that way, one artist's success is everyone's success.

Hi-Note cherry picks the artists they sign, of course...and the circle of talent they scoop up stays rather small, with priority given to those who come via the recommendation of established Hi-Note employees. There's a certain...type of artist personality that it favours, and certain types of personalities it staunchly avoids. Artists who'd get along fine via traditional avenues or who have little to no trouble marketing themselves are passed over. As is anyone who seems to have lacked certain challenges in their lives and failed to develop certain perspectives on...how people should be treated and discussed. And this area of high subjectivity/personal bias is probably where Hi-Note finds most of the critisism levelled against it. But there is an equalibrium/"vibe" that Raf aspires to maintain within Hi-Note, and he is pretty uncompromising about it, since a lot of it ties in with his own personal feelings of ease and comfort. Perhaps for this reason alone, Hi-Note can never grow beyond a very humble size.

But, so long as the people working with and within Hi-Note are happy and feel well supported in an industry that otherwise would have ground them into jadesd burnt-out husks, Raf is content with its trajectory. Hi-Note is probably the closest thing he and Margie get to having kids lmao. They're not family, and he's most comfortable keeping them at that amiciable, professional arm's length. But at the same time, he's very proud of his retinue and is ride or die for Hi-Note's artists and employees. And, for the most part, they are for him, too.
