Disco Elysium: Revachol is a city unlike any other. A great city, a turning point in the history of the world. A great mass of connected tissue, a piece of meat divvied up by major world powers after the single most devastating war in recorded history. It is a city of shining lights and bullet-pocked concrete and rain-slick streets. There is no city in the world with more contrasts than Revachol. The broken, magnificent, disgraced former capital of the world. A great sky on fire, reflecting off broken glass. Revachol the Monarchy, Revachol the Commune, Revachol the Administrative Region where all forms of government have failed. Revachol the Resolver, the answer to the great burning questions of history.
Pjõl: Hey so someone blew up Revachol. The whole thing. Yeah it's gone now. This is gonna be mentioned exactly one time by a secondary protagonist using it as leverage in an argument with his girlfriend. Don't worry about it.

i'm very proud of how these came out! i can't wait to use them in my journal and stuff and i hope yall are excited about them too! i tried to pick out scenes, icons, and species that might plausibly be on postage from revachol. (the phasmid photo i can imagine would make an excellent commemorative stamp since it was such a big deal! like those photography/art competition stamps or the ones celebrating famous people and holidays and stuff.)
preorder post is going up shortly but i wanted to show these a little closer since they're new!

Mesque's fleet of world enders, black like a pot, appears on the horizon of Revachol. In the fashion capital. They're [...] asking, what' that ominous chimney smoke over the ocean, like storm clouds?
In the leather-seat-scented rustle of the radio, they talk about an atomic weapon that was dropped on Revachol three hours ago. The female announcers voice is calm and beautiful.
Hi I just finished Sacred and Terrible Air and it did irreparable damage to my brain + In '72, year of the nuking of Revachol (if i remember correctly), Kim would have been 64, Harry 65 and I will never recover from this knowledge

Postcards
Le Jardin '21
This laminated post card offers a glimpse across the river. A little more than a decade after the war, the eastern bank is already fully renovated. The hillsides are lush with gardens and residences, someone's parked a small beige airship by the fountain. This postcard will sell for a pretty penny.
Grand Couron '37
This postcard depicts an ill-advised residential area overlooking the Jamrock Quarter. 13-story buildings line the hillside like sarcophagi, an ominous fog already rising from behind. These are the last boom years -- in '39 the project fails catastrophically, leaving behind an opiate and hepatitis B infested slum.
Martinaise '98
A faded picture postcard from the end of the last century shows Martinaise as was before the Revolution. It's the height of summer, Rue de Saint-Ghislaine is teeming with parasol-wielding bourgeoisie and Wild Pines flags buttress the walkway. Nothing is written on the back.
Couron '33
This one has 'HELL' written on its back. It could not be further from the truth. It's the boom years, and Couron, the nicest district in Revachol West, is enjoying a sun drenched day. Tall and handsome buildings rise from the riverside: steel, iron and yellow limestone, with cloud shadows sliding on the facades.
Boogie Street '46
This crumpled up postcard depicts an open air market in Boogie Street ~5 years ago. A vendor smiles as dead roosters line his stalls -- hung by their feet from canopy. Red blood flows onto the muddy street, blurry shadows of people pass

ROUND 4, MATCHUP 1
[ID: An image of Revachol from Disco Elysium, the letters VS., and the podcast cover for Welcome To Night Vale. End ID.]
Truly, what is there left to say about these two fine specimens of cityhood? They've battled it out through countless (well, 3) rounds. Revachol is the setting of Disco Elysium, the game that's recently captured much of Tumblr's heart, and Night Vale is (of course) the setting of Welcome to Night Vale, a podcast that's had it's own place on Tumblr since the ancient days of Dashcon.
I've said a lot over the course of this competition, so I'll let some of those who submitted these cities speak:
"[Revachol] speaks through the wind and footprints in the mud and broken glass and through all the people living in it. It's alive in all the ways that matter."
"the city of night vale lives and grows over the years along with us, hiding its existence from the world and warping every part of itself into surrealism. night vale loves you and changes you"
(remember, as always: build your cities up, don't tear other people's down! this is the semifinals: both of these cities undoubtedly deserve to be here, and are very loved by many people.)
