makes me physically sick to see all the sexist team green fans gleefully comment at every chance they get that rhaenyra was never recognised as a queen like it’s some crowning achievement and not a horrifying parallel to how many women have been erased, murdered and brutalised all throughout history for daring to stand up for themselves and other women like them.
We were robbed of this scene. Why did the writers make Rhaenyra cry over a piece of paper instead of giving us this?
All they had to do was to copy the quotes from the books, paste it on their script and then give it to Emma, but they ruined it because they continued to force “the friendship between Rhaenyra and Alicent had” down our throats.
"are you team green or team black on house of the drago-" i'm on the girls team. all the women on the show deserve to be picked up and transported to a place far far away from the pathetic little men on this show. all of the girls are valid and right. i will defend all of them to the death
both team green and team black need financial compensation for having to witness Criston loser-incel Cole eat out a woman he doesn’t deserve to even breathe the same air as
something something ‘feminine’ female characters being deserving of all things good and righteous and holy because of them overcoming their suffering by working within the system that hurts them using their wiley feminine attributes and charm something something ‘masculine’ female characters being villainized for fighting outside the constraints of the system they’re still subjected to in a more hands on approach and being victims of similar if not the same circumstances as their ‘feminine’ female peers but it doesn’t count for some reason because they don’t suffer as prettily as their counterparts something something
hate how team green stans jump through hoops to justify alicent’s wrongdoings but then end up backing themselves into a corner.
they want her to be this poor little victim forever stuck at fifteen and ignore the fact that she put her daughter through the exact same thing when she was even younger. but then they also try and say that she was ruling the kingdom for decades while viserys was ill and was the best monarch, and ignore the fact that she was just attacking the heir constantly and used her standing to enforce the laws that were already there. she expected everyone else to suffer and accept their place because she believed herself better than those around her for laying down and accepting her suffering and she attacked those who wanted to benefit themselves and others in a system set against them - rhaenyra fighting for her rightful place as heir despite being a woman. she also silenced others with pain - dyana, the serving girl who was assaulted by aegon (and this was not just a one-of occasion cause the maids were literally shown to be scared of aegon and he is canonically a vile person.)
Am I the only one who doesn’t like Rhaenyra and Alicent’s friendship on the tv show?
On the books... yes, they initially got along. That is until Alicent gave birth to Aegon and Aemond. And when Viserys I died, Alicent usurped her stepdaughter and placed her son on the throne.
If Rhaenyra has a friend, it’s not Alicent. It’s Laena Velaryon.
Whilst Princess Rhaenyra misliked her stepmother Queen Alicent, she became fond and more than fond of her good-sister Lady Laena.
— The Rogue Prince
And Rhaenyra attended her during the birth of her child.
And in 119 AC, when Laena found she was with child again, Rhaenyra flew to Driftmark to attend her during the birth.
— The Rogue Prince
I’ve been reading some passages from the books on A Search of Ice and Fire and Rhaenyra and Laena were best friends, indeed. They visited each other on dragonback with their husbands. Daemon and Laena were not in Pentos, they were in Driftmark.
So... this “droll tragedy” on the tv show never happened.
With Driftmark and Dragonstone so close, Daemon and Laena oft visited with the princess, and her with them. Many a time they flew together on their dragons, and the princess’s she-dragon Syrax produced several clutches of eggs.
— The Rogue Prince
I don’t know how the directors, producers, showrunners, and the writers come up with “Rhaenyra and Alicent are besties” WHEN LAENA VELARYON IS RIGHT THERE.
And Laena’s death on the books is much better than what is shown in House of the Dragon.
After three days of delirium, Lady Laena passed from this mortal coil. She was but twenty-seven. During her final hour, it is said, Lady Laena rose from her bed and made her way from her room, intent on reaching Vhagar that she might fly one last time before she died. Her strength failed her on the tower steps, however, and it was there she collapsed and died. Her husband Prince Daemon carried her back to her bed.
I hate that the Ryan Condal and Sara Hess did Daemon dirty. Yes, he had done terrible things, but he loves and cares about Laena.
Afterward, Princess Rhaenyra sat vigil with him over Lady Laena’s corpse and comforted him in his grief.
Honestly, when I read it, I wanna see all of it come to life on screen but I guess I expect too much.
I’m disappointed that they wasted their friendship and replace Laena with Alicent instead.
And again, if they want to be true to the books, why not just... put it out there?
One of the things that really stood out for me this episode was that despite Team Black being sworn to a Queen, their side is choking Rhaenyra with misogyny too. Rhaenys & Mysaria being the only people on team Black who actually hear Rhaenyra out, instead of patronizing her and trying to force their opinions on her. Despite all her power, she is still powerless in the face of misogyny, which pervades even her own rather privileged life.
Subtle, but very interesting writing choice. I like it.
