So the writers skimmed though F&B, read up about a drunkard prince that isn't interested in ruling but would do it to save his family, and concluded that absolutely every single family member hates his guts, adding child fighting pits attendance as the cherry on top lol.

"[They] don't have this ancient history that Rhaenyra and Alicent had together when they loved each other and sat under the Godswood and read books together."

Only a man could say something ridiculous like this.
Ryan Condal is so entrenched in the HotD framework of “two women torn apart by the evil men in their lives” that he doesn’t realize that he’s striped said women of everything that makes them human. Their anger, grief, love, ambition? Gone entirely or diluted for the sake of keeping them palatable because the only way a woman can garner sympathy, in Condals perspective, is if she plays the role of the perpetual victim.
God forbid two women hate each other after one spends a whole decade targeting the others children and playing a role in his death.

“It definitely felt like Ewan’s arrival on the show was a seismic hit. [...] In a first season where we don’t have [characters like] The Mountain or a Ramsay Bolton right out of the gate, his arrival stoked those fires in the fanbase.”

It was not all tromping through sets, though. I also spent two days locked in a room with Ryan Condal and his writing staff (Sara Hess, Ti Mikkel, David Hancock, and Philippa Goslett) talking about the third and fourth seasons of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON. They were lively, fun discussions, and we got some good work done… though two days was not nearly enough. There is so much ground to cover that I am not sure twenty days would have been enough.
The highlight of the trip, though, had to be the sneak preview that Ryan gave me of the first two episodes of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON, season two. (Rough cuts, of course). Of course, I am hardly objective when talking about anything based on my own work… but I have to say, I thought both episodes were just great. (And they are not even finished yet). Dark, mind you. Very dark. They may make you cry. (I did not cry myself, but one of my friends did). Powerful, emotional, gut-wrenching, heart rending. Just the sort of thing I like.

So... the writers included the scene where Daemon chokes Rhaenyra in the final cut, but not Rhaenyra’s dialogue in Valyrian after giving birth to baby Visenya?

Aemond Targaryen is actually Ryan Condal's blatant and uncomfortably revealing self-insert.
In this essay I will...

MASSIVE NEW SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2 OF HOTD JUST LEAKED
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Following the release of the full trailer for Season 2 of House of the Dragon, Showrunner Ryan Condal spoke about the new season. Condal has confirmed what characters will appear in Season 2 - and what characters will not be appearing.
PRINCE DAERON TARGARYEN WILL APPEAR (it is still unknown who will play him)
"Daeron is a fixture and a character in the show. Do not fret, anybody. All in due time.” - Ryan Condal
PRINCE AEGON III AND VISERYS II WILL NOT APPEAR (it is still unknown who plays them however it is believed that they had filmed their scenes last year)
"Unfortunately we weren't able to focus on all the characters. As with the nature of the show, it is important to focus on the core characters and those who we didn't get to spend a lot of time with last season - Jace, Baela, Aemond, etc. Aegon and Viserys will be mentioned, do not fret. But also given how young they were, it also made it very difficult for filming.” - Ryan Condal
IT IS STILL UNCLEAR WHETHER NETTLES WILL APPEAR IN SEASON 2. IT HAS BEEN RUMOURED THAT SHE MAY NOT APPEAR. HOWEVER CONDAL DID NOT COMMENT ON THIS.

"When I was pitching HotD, I actually hired [Gary Gianni] to do a scene from my pilot as a pen and ink drawing to show to HBO as a sort of a proof of concept - bring the thing to life. [...] He did the funeral from the pilot where Rhaenyra's mother is burned by the dragon after the baby dies and she dies. [...] When I initially developed the pilot, Rhaenyra was much younger, so it's a much younger version of Rhaenyra."

I took an oath. As a knight of your Kingsguard. An oath of chastity. I've broken it. I've soiled my white cloak. And it's the only thing I have to my fucking name!

Ewan Mitchell's Aemond Targaryen became an instant icon when the actor took over the part in S01E08. By the season finale, his command of the character made it seem like he'd been doing Aemond much longer than three episodes.
Throughout its first season, House of the Dragon continually attracted new viewers. Many individuals are already eagerly awaiting the first peek of the upcoming season. Ewan Mitchell, one of the show’s breakout stars, has gained a massive fan following. Riding on the biggest dragon in House of the Dragon as Aemond Targaryen, he will have a bigger role to play in Season 2. [ ... ] In an interview with The Face, showrunner Ryan Condal expressed how amazed he was when he met Mitchell. He said, “It definitely felt like Ewan’s arrival on the show was a seismic hit. He’s come in with a bunch of young actors who are going to play these characters, then take over for the rest of the series. It’s a murderer’s row of great young British acting talent. But [the] Game of Thrones [universe] loves its villains. In a first season where we don’t have [characters like] The Mountain or a Ramsay Bolton right out of the gate, his arrival stoked those fires in the fanbase.”
We'll be seeing significantly more of Ewan's Aemond in Season 2 when it airs in 2024.
