what’s a tv show/movie you’ve been enjoying lately?

Ooh nice this has several easy answers

I binged the entirety of Last One Laughing Canada, a show where ten legendary comedians (including Dave Foley, Caroline Rhea, Tom Green, and Colin Mochrie) engage in a six-hour battle royale of You Laugh You Lose hosted by Hiccup from HTTYD. If I have to sell you on that, why. It came down to the last five minutes, a queer charity won, it's incredible.

I've also been watching Dungeons and Drag Queens (on @dropoutdottv give them your CC#) featuring the inimitable Brennan Lee Mulligan as DM + Bob the Drag Queen who I was already a fan of, and surprise standouts Jujubee and Monet X Change getting really into D&D

Plans - Memento Morri

“Magic is all around us,” Rhea’s voice echoed in her head. “If you allow it to flow through you, you will be able to do anything.”

With a slow, fluid movement, Morrigan brought her arms down and allowed the magic to move through her, channeling the energy into a large, illusory firework. It shot up into the air and hovered for just a moment, before it exploded into sparks, slowly raining down over the town. As though she were dancing, she spun in a slow circle, her arms extending outwards as she brought them down to her shoulders. The sparks in the air followed her movements, dancing in the air along with the young woman. Her movements began to come faster and more confidently, her arms moving about in mesmerizing patterns, directing the sparks in the air to create shapes and patterns that moved about with her. The villagers “ooh’d” and “ahh’d” as Morrigan altered the illusions with her movements.

The dance lasted at most a few minutes, but by the end Morrigan found herself quite exhausted. The townsfolk erupted into cheers as the last of the sparks faded and left them all in darkness. With one final motion, Morrigan lit the torches lining the streets all at once. She curtsied to the crowd, and stepped away from the center of the square as the village elder came forward to say a few things.

“Thank you, Morrigan Brennan, for such a delightful show,” the elder began, before launching into a prepared speech about how beautiful this time of year is, how much he loves the village, and so forth. Morrigan found her way through the crowd to her mother, who was waiting for her with Rhea and Rowan.

“That. Was. Awesome!” Rowan said, excitedly but softly. “I didn’t know you could do all of that!” Morrigan managed a half-smile at him, and tousled his hair a bit with one hand.

“You did so excellently, honey,” her mother said, pulling her into a hug. “I’m so proud of you.” From her mother’s embrace, Morrigan looked to her teacher. Rhea merely smiled and nodded, an indication of her approval.

“Thank you, all,” she said, pushing herself out from her mother’s embrace gently. She looked from her mother to Rhea with a serious look on her face. “I wanted to ask something,” she continued, “now that my training is complete.”

“Go on, child,” Rhea said, a knowing look on her face. “You can ask.”

“I want your blessings to travel, to join the Adventurer’s Guild and see the world,” Morrigan said, her expression fearful that might say no. “I know I’m barely an adult, but I was thinking on what you said about ‘finding purpose,’ Mother, and I think that-”

“Of course, Morri,” her mother interrupted, taking Morrigan’s hand in hers. “I understand that being here is difficult for you, and seeing the wider world will be good for you.”

“You have mine as well, child,” Rhea said, stepping forward and placing a hand on Morrigan’s shoulder. Morrigan opened her mouth to express gratitude, but was silenced by a grave look from Rhea. “While you have learned much under my guidance, there is yet much more to learn. Keep an open mind, and remember that it is only in rigidity that we are doomed to failure.”

Morrigan nodded, her expression turning equally serious. “Yes, ma’am, I will be sure to remember that. Thank you, both.”

“The next caravan through town is scheduled to arrive in a few days,” Rhea said, turning to give Morrigan’s mother a thoughtful look. “Perhaps they would be willing to escort your daughter through the mountain pass to Ravengard, and the Adventurer’s Guild there.”

“Oh, I’m sure,” her mother said, a tinge of sadness in her voice. “Ah, my daughter is all grown up now and ready to see the world.” She pulled Morrigan into a hug, holding her tightly. “I’ll miss you, Morri.”

“I’ll miss you too, Mother,” Morrigan said, her voice wavering slightly. After several moments she stepped away from her mother and pulled Rowan into a hug.

“You’re really gonna go?” Rowan said, sounding as though he were on the edge of tears. “But, I’ll miss you.”

“I know, Bud,” Morrigan said, barely able to contain her emotions herself. “I’ll miss you too. Come on, I’ll read you a story before bed.”

I went to the holiday variety benefit show that Justin Long & CHVRCHES put together and it was such a fun night! It featured not only CHVRCHES / Lauren Mayberry & Justin, but also Benjamin Gibbard, Chris Hardwick & Mike Phirman, Ben Schwartz & Thomas Middleditch, Computer Games / Darren Criss, Reggie Watts, Nick Kroll, Cameron Esposito & Rhea Butcher, Neal Brennan, David Koechner, Pete Holmes, MUNA, Jenny Owen Youngs, and The Pierces! What an awesome line up! 😲 On top of that the proceeds went the Girls Home and No Kid Hungry organizations. 👌 What a ridiculously amazing night of music and comedy and all around good vibes! 🙌😊💕 Videos on my Instagram (@nezoid)

Hallmark Projects

Attn: I decided to no longer include what the active statuses of the projects are (filming, wrapped, etc.) . Instead I’m solely going to include any possible Hallmark project that was in production for the current month. For example, most of all these movies were filmed in the month of September. The only time I will add past month’s projects is if I see something new come up after the fact. 

Now let’s see what Hallmark brought up this month! Like always, all the information/speculation I put in this is based off social media posts from different Hallmark actors/actresses, general social media info and a production website I look at often. Things such air dates, airing networks, co-stars, movie titles, etc, are always subject to change.

While Hallmark beat me to it a bit, I hope some there’s some stuff in this month’s project list that is new and exciting for you!

Eloise Mumford and Brett Dalton - One December Night - This movie also seems to star Peter Gallagher and Bruce Campbell. This will be Mumford’s and Dalton’s 4th movie with Hallmark. 

Candace Cameron Bure and John Brotherton - The Christmas Contest - The writer of this script Joie Botkin has already penned 15 other Hallmark films starting with Miss Christmas. Candance and John worked together on Fuller House. 

Trevor Donavon and Sara Power - Nantucket Noel - This was written and directed by Kristen Hansen. First time writing and directing. She posted about a coastal location for the film. His leading lady is rumored to be Sara Power from Good Witch. It also features Fiona Vroom, Charlie Bacon and Heather-Claire Nortey.

Vanessa Lengies and Jesse Hutch - Christmas in Trinket Town - This movie could go either way when it comes to networks as the production company involved with this film produced both Lengies holiday film with Hallmark and Hutch’s holiday film with Lifetime, both last year. 

Holly Robinson Peete and Lyriq Brent - Our Christmas Journey - Directed by another well known Hallmark director Kevin Fair. The movie will be about a single mom and her son with Autism. 

Alison Sweeny, Brennan Elliot, Erica Durance and Michael Karl - Open by Christmas - It started with Erica sharing a set selfie and tagged Ali Sweeny and Michael Karl. She even hashtagged the photo of it being a Christmas film. Then Sweeny shared a video on her and Elliot getting ready to film a car scene together.  It’s directed by well known Hallmark director David Weaver. 

Lacey Chabert and Stewart Townsend - Christmas at Castle Hart - It’s been confirmed as they follow each other in social media and a twitter source posting photos on them filming.

Cameron Mathison and Jennie Garth - Kind Hearted Christmas - Initially Cameron posted on his Instagram stories, tagging Garth and Hallmark. However apparently the movie will be switching over to GAC. But it should be a fun pairing since they did an ABC holiday movie together back in 2013 but also were on the same season of DWTS in 2007. 

Jessica Lowndes, Chad Michael Murray and David Reale - Say Halo to Christmas -  This will be Chad’s second holiday film this year and 3 project within a year with Jessica. Their Autumn themed movie is set of GAC. Word is this holiday of theirs will also go to that network. 

Kaitlin Doubleday, Steve Lund and Caroline Rhea - A Mrs. Miracle Christmas - I believe this will be the 3rd, or 4th if you count Mr. Miracle which Roberts was not apart of, film for this Hallmark franchise and the first without Doris Roberts.

Jen Lilley and Brendan Fehr - Royally Wrapped Christmas - This film will be one of the holiday films on the new GAC network. As far as Fehr being the male lead, it’s a good chance however a Lifetime movie was said to have been filming around the time of this one.

Taylor Cole and Carlo Marks - Making Spirits Bright - First time pairing for this film. Both has been leads before with Hallmark. 

Brandon Routh and Kimberly Sustard - Nine Kittens of Christmas - It’s finally getting a sequel! All I’ve heard about the film is that Zach and Marilee are no longer together. However they little fur babies are expecting and them having kittens is what helps bring the the two leads back together.

Laura Osnes and Kyle Selig - Christmas in Tahoe - The lead singer of Train Pat Monhan is also set to be apart of this film. Another new face to the network with Kyle Seling being a lead. However, like Osnes, he is in the Broadway world.

Jill Wagner and Nick Bateman  - Christmas Bridesmaid or A Lot Like Christmas or A Dickens of a Holiday (The Christmas Stand In) - Jill’s co-star hints are leading to Bateman, however as of this post, there’s no confirmation. I’ve seen a bunch of different possible title names so they are listed.

Nikki Deloach - Christmas For Keeps - Not much on this film other that Nikki was involved with the making of the project. Since it’s super new, no word on co-star. 

Paul Green and Marisol Nichols - Christmas CEO - All that is known about the film so far is that Nicholas will be playing the CEO. While Greene is a known Hallmark hunk, this will be Nicholas 2nd Hallmark movie. 

Becca Tobin and Matthew MacCaull- Christmas Is You - Tobin and Barclay Hope are playing father-daughter. Casey Ryan Manderson is also in the film. Director is Allan Harmon has done Hallmark films since 2017. This movie seemed to have started with Hallmark is now moved over to air on the GAC network.

Robert Buckley, Ana Ayora, Jonathan Bennett, Brad Harder, Treat Williams and Sharon Lawrence -The Christmas House 2: Deck Those Halls - Yes a squeal! The main gang is back for this film and it will be brother vs brother in this new film. 

Erin Cahill and Wes Brown - Everytime A Bell Rings - The most also stars Ali Liebert, Brittney Ishibashi and Lyndie Greenword. All that’s been said about this film, that I know of, is 3 sisters reuniting for the holidays. According to recent news, this movie will only be on Hallmark Movies and Now app. 

Jessy Schram - Time For Them To Come Home for Christmas - Blake Sheldon is back at it again with another film for this Hallmark holiday franchise. No idea who her co-star is with this film. 

James Denton and Teri Hatcher - Kiss Before Christmas - Marilu Henner will also be apart of this film. This will be the Ter’s Hallmark debut.

Christmas in Harlem - Olivia Washington. daughter of Denzel Washington’s, will star in this film. No idea who her leading man is but it’s exciting to see another new face on the network.

*Katee Sackhoff and Patrick Sabongui - Christmas Sail - There’s an update. Kristopher Polaha is not involved with this movie. In terms of Polaha, apparently, he’s mentioned doing a holiday film this year so we should still be seeing him.

*Laura Vandervoort and Niall Matter - Christmas Together With You  - Laura posted a photo of the two of them on one of her social media accounts. According to the post this wrapped last month.

As it seems, Hallmark holiday films should be wrapped up with filming within the coming weeks. My personal guess, by the end of October. Due to that, we should start seeing some possible Winterfest news soon.

How does Tumblr function as a digital community?

Social media websites, such as Tumblr, function as digital communities by allowing likeminded people from all over the world to connect and interact via an online forum. According to Kindsmuller et al. (2009, p. 2899), an online or digital community can be defined as a “voluntary group of users who partake actively in a certain computer-mediated service”, and In this context, computer can be extended to any device with internet access, such a tablet or mobile phone. Upon creating a Tumblr account, the platform allows users to streamline their interests by selecting a number of categories they are interested in (art, photography, movies etc.) and cultivates a homepage unique to this. Not only does this further aid in building a digital community, it also strongly reflects the website’s own ideology, “where your interests connect you with your people” (Tumblr 2020).

In the article “Oh, She’s a Tumblr Feminist”: Exploring the Platform Vernacular of Girls’ Social Media Feminisms, author Jessalynn Keller speaks with a number of girls and young women who have utilised social media for political activism. It was found that Tumblr offers “opportunities for moving beyond one’s local community” (Keller 2019, p. 9) and into an online space to connect with likeminded individuals and build one’s own circle. Dara and Rhea, two teenage friends from London spoke about the fact that while Tumblr does provide a sense of community, it also operates under an air of anonymity, something that Dara describes as feeling “a lot safer” (Keller 2019, p. 8) compared to some other forms of social media. Tumblr relies heavily on aesthetics over that of “friends” and personal profiles, meaning that the people behind the blogs are often difficult to identify. This relative obscurity is why many users feel comfortable expressing themselves freely away from the judgement of their in-person family and friends, whether that be in terms of interests or political views (as in the case of the feminist example from the reading). Additionally, the use of hashtags and reblogging topics of interest leads users down a so-called “rabbit hole”, (McCracken 2020, p. 40) where one interest can lead to the discovery of another and another and another. Ultimately, “Tumblr is where people go to share the things they are most passionate about” (McCracken 2020, p. 38), and in turn build their own digital community.

Tumblr as a Digital Community

Tumblr is a blogging platform with certain social networking-like features that is mostly used for the sharing of material such as artwork, photographs, audio, and videos. Tumblr combines micro-blogging focused on posting text and multimedia with some aspects of social media (Costello, 2023). The platform's large library of content and media allows users to connect with groups of people who share their interests and worldviews in fields like politics, fashion, food, and music. Tumblr acts as a virtual community by providing a setting and the tools necessary for people to interact, communicate, and pursue common interests. It is powerful and inclusive to all since people can keep their anonymity while still connecting with others and feeling like a part of a community. This social networking platform provides a feeling of anonymity because it is a quiet, safe setting where people can share their opinions without those comments being connected to their "real name internet." In Amanda Brennan’s interview, she explained that they connect over the thing they love the most and don’t need to be who they are on the outside (McCracken 2020, p.37). Clearly, on the platform "you can be more anonymous, you can really embrace your interests, you can connect over that." (McCracken 2020, p.37).

In an article, ‘“Oh, She’s a Tumblr Feminist”: Exploring the Platform Vernacular of Girls’ Social Media Feminisms’ by Jessalynn Keller (2019), she describes an online community as a unique, contiguous group that is simple to discover, contact, and research. She explicitly connects this to Tumblr's digital feminism communities. Female teens have more access to the expressiveness of these platforms, which allows them to engage in feminism dialogues and make connections with like-minded people outside of their immediate communities. Teenage Londoners Dara and Rhea discussed how Tumblr fosters a sense of community while simultaneously operating in an atmosphere of anonymity, which Dara describes makes her feel "a lot safer" (Keller 2019, p.8) compared to other social media forms. Ultimately, “Tumblr is where people go to share the things they are most passionate about” (McCracken 2020, p. 38), and in turn building their own digital community.

‘L.A.’s Finest’ With Gabrielle Union, Jessica Alba Sets Premiere Date

In today’s TV news roundup, Spectrum announces the release date for “L.A.’s Finest” and Ginnifer Goodwin joins “The Twilight Zone”

Spectrum subscribers can watch “L.A.’s Finest,” the first series kicking off the new video-on-demand service’s orignal content, on May 13. Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba will executive produce and star in the 13-episode series, which is spinoff of the “Bad Boys” franchise by Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay. Union plays LAPD detective Syd Burnett, who must work together with working mom Nancy McKenna (Alba) to take down some of the city’s most dangerous criminals.

Season two of British-Canadian drama series “Tin Star” will debut in the U.S. and Canada exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, March 8. Starring Tim Roth and Christina Hendricks, the 10-episode sophomore season will pick up at the moment season one ended. Former police detective and alcoholic Jim Worth (Roth) must win back his family while Elizabeth Bradshaw (Hendricks) is driven to the edge to keep a dark secret and protect herself.

CASTING

Netflix has announced a trio of recurring guest stars for the second season of “The Kominsky Method,” its Golden-Globe winning comedy starring Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin. Jane Seymour will play an old flame of Norman (Arkin), Jacqueline Bisset is Sandy’s (Douglas) controlling French ex-wife and mother of his daughter Mindy (Sarah Baker), and Paul Reiser plays a high-school teacher who gets romantically involved with Mindy.

CBS All Access has announced Ginnifer Goodwin will join the “The Twilight Zone” reboot in an episode titled “Point of Origin” with James Frain and Zabryna Guevara. Previously announced cast members of the Jordan Peele-produced series include Ike Barinholtz, John Cho, Greg Kinnear, Kumail Nanjiani, Adam Scott, Rhea Seehorn, Jacob Tremblay and Steven Yeun.

TruTV has announced four unscripted projects currently in development at the comedy network. Fortune Feimster participates in international game shows in “Around the World in 80 Games;” “Blackspiracy with James Davis” explores black conspiracy theories in pop culture; Maz Jobrani hosts an untitled variety series originating from his growing up in Iraq and the U.S.; and Yamaneika Saunders competes against fellow comedians in fast-paced challenges in “Can You Beat Yamaneika?” In casting news, Jo Koy‘s animated comedy “This Functional Family” adds Tia Carrere, Gillian Jacobs, Phil LaMarr, Josh Luis Keaton and Omid Abtahi to its voice cast.

Producer Aaliyah Williams has launched Just A Rebel production company and signed a one-year first look deal with MACRO, the production company that contributed to “Sorry to Bother You,” “Fences” and “Roman J. Israel, Esq.” Formerly, she was the head of digital content at MACRO. Williams will produce the upcoming film “Really Love,” starring Kofi Siriboe, Yootha Wong-Loi-Sing and Uzo Aduba, and the Netflix-acquired “Gente-fied” along with America Ferrera.

Smokehouse Pictures has announced that Rebecca Arzoian has been named President of Smokehouse Television. Previously, she was Vice President of Production at Focus Features, where she worked on “Mary Queen of Scots,” “Boy Erased” and “BlacKkKlansman.” Beginning immediately, Arzoian will oversee all aspects of TV development and production for the company’s first look deal with Paramount TV.

TV writer and producer Shane Brennan has been elected President of the Australian Writers’ Guild by the association’s National Executive Committee, and will assume the office immediately. A member of the Guild for nearly 40 years, Brennan is best known as the creator and showrunner of “NCIS: Los Angeles.” He also created the not-for-profit organization Scripted Ink, which supports screenwriters, an funded the Guild’s David Williamson Prize with his wife.
