Conceptual Statement:

I wanted to experiment with my voice to produce a piece that values acoustic value over the meanings we’ve learned to associate with certain sounds, also known as language. I wanted the listeners to focus on the qualities of my raw, unfiltered, and unedited voice instead of “filtering” my voice with messages. To experiment with indeterminism as the Dadaists did, I read from a version of Hamlet’s “To be or not to be” that was scattered by a gibberish word generator and committed to reading the text. I have to admit that I riffed little from the text to slightly increase the tongue rolls to give my vocal instrument a sense of rhythm without becoming too bland or distracting.
