Breakfast is a packet of Chwee Kueh (水粿) bundled up in food wrapper. It is a type of steamed rice cake originating in Teochew cuisine that is served with preserved radish and is a popular breakfast item in Singapore.

By itself the Steamed Rice Cakes are almost tasteless on their own as it is made of rice flour and water then steamed. So they are eaten with savoury sweet diced preserved radish and served with chilli sauce or chilli paste as shown below.

Lawson, the convenience store has this very good roll cake, whose cake part is chewy that made me think it was made from mochi rice flour.
I tried recreating it at home, and this was the monster that I have made. The cake part barely held together and it broke in two.
I got another pack of Lawson's cake and found out that there is no rice flour used. How the heck did they made it so chewy?

So this happened completely on a whim, but after using a sieve and a wooden spoon handle as a makeshift pestle and mortar, I made a small portion of rice flour

Obviously it’s not near the amount I need to make even one flatbread, but it’s nice to know I’ve potentially got an alternative if I ever run out of store bought flour. Once my next payment comes through, I’m investing in a blender.
