Hey so funny story when I first started watching jrwi, Condifiction played Jay Ferin’s understated and grounded yet realistic femininity so well that I assumed Condi was a trans woman who just didn’t care about passing.

OOAAAAGGHH this has been cooking in my brain for all of maybe a week but i CAN'T HELP BUT PUT MY CC'S CHARACTERS INTO HELS/THE RNS UNIVERSE BECAUS AAAAUGH

he's a helsmet the way that Red and Martyn are helsmets, in that they are kind of characters that the cc's played for a server once. so this guy can double as tr!sneeg easilyyyy. either way, he's a warden now! with dragon traits thrown in bc i love that headcanon so much. he dealt the killing blow and got one of the only egg shards, so yea. and the egg shards are tied to hearing the warden heartbeats anyway. obv.

if i was gonna insert him into the environemnt of hels i don't think he'd be much like our current tr!sneeg. he doesn't align himself with anyone, fights only for himself, and isolates himself in an abandoned corner of hels that somehow has grown sculk to accommodate for him. (evil x can't figure out how he did that, but isn't interested in asking.) nobody who's encountered him refers to him as sneegsnag, not that he could really communicate that that is (was?) his name; he's just the warden to them, the way that red is the red king. he's lost too much of his mind to be very good at making machines anymore, not that redstone is readily available in hels, and there aren't any levels to grind in hels like on the realm so he doesn't have the motivation to anyway. maybe his hands itch sometimes like he needs to create something, but he doesn't know why, or what to create or how.

maybe someone ropes him into being a colosseum fighter. a trident feels familiar in his hands, but there aren't any pools of water in the arena for him to riptide from. he easily wields to heavy weapons at once without remembering where he got the strength. he never seems to bleed, but takes damage from well-aimed hits. his opponents have to face the souls of those sneeg has killed in another life if they want to strike his chest cavity or ribs. he's blind, but could one-shot you if you make one wrong move.

maybe he's just the monster on the edge of the city who emerges from the basalt when disturbed, functioning like a warden in-game because he's lost so much of his mind and consciousness. maybe he dives into the sculk he's created himself and appears in an ancient city in the overworld, darker and colder and quieter, and doesn't actually spend much time in hels at all. there's a lot i could do with a dark mirror of sneeg that has a very unknown amount of agency in his own body. how much awareness does he still have? because what does humanity mean if it includes more than your body?

Angeal's thing is that he ends up questioning his humanity, his "place" in the world. In canon, he learns later about the part of him that makes him "inhuman". As we know this is the catalyst for him leaving(amongst other things).

In Riptide au, he knows that from the beginning, so what's his deal here? He's believed his whole life that he's nothing but a tool, crafted to serve and be loyal, that is his purpose. And then the floor gets pulled out from beneath him. When Genesis and the others left, they left him with a question. Could he be his own person?

And it ruined him.

He ties his whole identity to what he is, the moment that tie is questioned he falls apart.

Thinking about turning a character completely on their head, but the turmoil remains.

3. Villian is a subjective term. Villian could be an actual villian from PD, or it could be a character from Riptide that has vilianous tendencies.

HIIII i have a question about the riptide au<3 when did the firsts get all harpy? was it like a similar timeline to the wing stuff we get in cc or something else? same question for zack and cloud too :3 (if it's spoilers you don't have to get into it, i just wanna draw something lol<3)

So it's not like what happened in Crisis Core, the Firsts and all Harpies that came after them* were born that way. Genetically engineered with monster DNA to yield enhanced, flighted soldiers.

*with the exception of Zack and Cloud, I'll get to them in a minute

What I would compare to CC is "degradation". It doesn't work quite the same, but it's the monster DNA coming into a more prominent role in Harpy's make up, which can manifest in several ways. In Genesis's case, he was near mortally wounded, survived, and became a monster. his mind is still intact, but his visual humanness is almost completely gone. For others, it comes with time, they might start growing more feathers or taking on other small changes.

R&D needed(wanted) to find a faster way to make Harpies; raising them for years before they could be utilized was expensive and hurt ShinRa's bottom line. It did not help that roughly a year prior to this universe's equivalent to the Nibelheim incident was a mass desertion in the wake of the Specimen G catastrophe, which was Genesis getting injured and turning.

This is where Zack and Cloud come in. Nibelheim gets attacked and burned to the ground(under different circumstances from canon, but that is spoilers so I can't talk about that just yet.), and they get captured. R&D used them for their experiment, which is similar to the ones Hojo was already performing in the Nibel Reactor(Think the human that had been suspended in mako for so long they were turning into a monster, the one Sephiroth removed from the pod).

Over the course of 4-5 years, they were pulled in and out of mako, tested on until R&D decided that they were developed enough to show to ShinRa's higher-ups. It was after one last "check-up" that Zack had gained enough strength and consciousness to fight back and escape with Cloud. Chapter 1 takes place about 2 months after their escape :]
