no guys i’m totally fine. the complete removal of not one but two of my favorite sapphic shows at the moment has left me totally normal. no i’m not upset about it at all. it’s not like these shows accomplished monumental feats of representation (sapphic and otherwise) or anything. like my feelings for the way sapphic shows are treated by the media are totally baseline actually.

Grease. Rise of the Pink Ladies has me in a death grip chokehold right now. I really had no clue what to expect and was just watching it on the side while I did other work. Around episode 3 I was completely enamored. There's so much going on and it feels like most of the effects are practical. I've worked in musical theater for the past 4 years and it's just so wonderful to see how much thought and care was put into the design of the show. Like holy shit I've never been so compelled to become a YT video essay person. I might do a rewatch once I move and pick out all of the things that I loved but we'll see. If you haven't seen it go pirate it, maybe sign a petition to bring it back to another platform idk

How come all these amazing shows with amazing representation, are getting cancelled is beyond me but beyond signing petitions, I’m starting a praying circle for another streaming platform to renew all these shows.

thinking about my two pulled-from-existence sapphic shows (willow and grease: rotp) and how different the public cast reactions to the outcomes of their shows were.

i follow and keep up with the rotp cast and crew on tik tok (mostly) and insta and have seen so much cast-driven momentum to keep their show going. i've seen lots of interactions with their fans, lots of events within the fandom to increase engagement, and just more cast engagement with bringing back their show.

whereas with willow, (and correct me if my memory serves me incorrectly) i only recall jonathan kasdan, amar chadha patel, warwick davis (i think?), dempsey bryk (i'm not sure about if he has said anything about it being cancelled/pulled but i know he for sure has been engaged with questies bc of how much willow content he posts) posting about the cancellation.

this isn't a "oh the cast shouldve been more active!" or me thinking i am entitled to the cast posting more about this project because i am incredibly sure they are just as hurt as we were after losing a project they put so much time and effort into. i just think the difference in reactions between casts is quite interesting and wonder if their public reactions were limited by contracts or their managers and what have you.

while it would always be nice to get more willow content and opinions from the cast, i hope they are doing well and know that they have a lot of people who are just as devastated as them.

Hollywood really has no idea because not only did they cancel this amazing show but they completely removed it from any streaming platform making it impossible for people to watch it (without pirating it) (which I do full support) (for legal reasons that was a joke)

Listening to an podcast last year and one of the hosts said in 200 years people will have no idea what the media of our time was like because it will all be locked behind copyright walls. And now we're in a place where companies are straight up just deleting movies and shows that don't immediately turn a profit, keeping people from seeing them ever again.
