Sims In Bloom: Generation 2 Pt. 25 (Unexpected Death Cull but then a Baby, Finally!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The town of Henford was rocked by a seniors’ river cruise disaster which killed Spencer’s grandparents Dennis and Vivian Lewis-Kim, as well as Ian and Derek Moody-McMillan, who were old friends of the Nesbitts and grandfathers to Nicola, Hazel’s bestie-turned-girlfriend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The disaster brought Everett and Spencer home to visit her family. The Nesbitts sent condolences, grateful to have been spared greater grief as the town’s fledgling riverboat tourism industry took a nosedive. Spencer met her new niece and infant Greyson got to know his aunts on the Pancakes and Kim-Lewis sides of his family.
The visit made them miss home, and they began to talk about coming home to Henford for good. For now, however, life called them back to Oasis Springs after the funerals.
Daisy was still a PlantSim, which was concerning as the effects of the forbidden fruit had worn off much slower than she expected, and River’s wedding was just around the corner. Despite this, Daisy stayed close to Heather until delivery.
Tumblr media
One evening, Heather tried to show her mother how to use accounting software for her floral business, but it wasn't going well and Heather was starting to get bored. She nonchalantly checked her phone. "You wrote a whole cookbook, Mom. You taught me how to do online research, but you can't figure out a few numbers?"
Daisy frowned. "I always let the telescope do my number-crunching for me. I really just loved gardening." She clicked something, and the program disappeared. "Oh, what now?"
"Let me." Heather leaned over her mother's shoulder. "You deleted it? How did you do that?"
Daisy shrugged in frustration. "I really don't know."
Heather opened her Recycle Bin to retrieve the deleted file when she noticed a strange folder. "VetConnect? Is this a clone? What?"
"What does that mean?"
"I...I think someone might have cloned my app files and given them to Petcare Inc."
"Who would do such a thing?"
"Other than you, no one's used my computer since...since Malcolm! I used to let him log in to send work emails. Oh my god! I could kill him!"
Daisy frowned. "Don't say that. Can you sue?"
"Against the Landgraabs? I don't even know if I could prove it was him," she said. "But I think I can fight fire with fire. My vet tech had the idea, and it took years to make the first one, but I'm going to have to work on a new app."
Tumblr media
After a family dinner in Henford, Heather finally went into labour. Daisy went with her to the hospital, where her doctor was the on-call intern, Jamar Scott, her childhood neighbour.
(And the eldest son of Henford townies Simon and Sara Scott.)
"How's life in Brindleton Bay?"
"It's really great! I love being by the sea and I really feel like the clinic was my calling."
"I know what you mean. What you do for animals is what I love to do for sims."
"And how's Malia's freelance career?"
"She loves the flexibility, and I can't say I blame her. We're talking about starting a family of our own once my residency's done and I can work better hours."
Tumblr media
Just before four in the morning, an exhausted Heather gave birth to a healthy baby boy she named Ash Neal Nesbitt. She debated the last name for months, but Malcolm hadn’t checked on her except when he needed a paternity test. And he stole her mobile app's code!
Tumblr media
Since then he’d been no better than a ghost. If he wanted to miss out on his son's life, Heather was fine with it. ->
<- Previous Chapter | Gen 2 Start | Gen 1 Summary | Gen 1 Start
NOTE: To prevent them from randomly marrying other sims I made Dennis Kim and Vivian Lewis fall in love and marry years after their kids, Eric and Alice, married and started a family (they had three girls - Olivia, Spencer, and Lydia Kim-Lewis).
NOTE 2: I made OG grocer Kim Goldbloom the adopted daughter of Ian Moody and Derek McMillan because I wanted to make all the Henford NPCs playable at the start of the game. (I also paired up Michael Bell and Cecilia Kang despite their canon bad first date, married off Agnes and Agatha and moved them in with the Pancakes after making Agatha the mother of Bob, and put Lavina and Rahul in a home in the Bramblewood. She married Paolo Rocca and had two more kids, Rahul married Rashidah Watson after graduation and they moved to Brindleton Bay to start a family.

#8 Cal Wins Opening Weekend
Bears Are Flawless in Dispatching Four Opponents
BERKELEY – The No. 8 ranked California beach volleyball team closed out its opening weekend at the Clark Kerr Sand Courts with straight wins, beating all four opponents by a score of 5-0. In fact, with their victories over Saint Mary's, Santa Clara, American River and San Jose State they only dropped a single set.
"It was really exciting being able to open at home this year in front of our fans and supporters," Cal head coach Meagan Owusu said. "It was fun to see a bunch of new players in the lineup. It's a new squad, so we're just growing and getting to know the strengths that this specific group has and rolling with that."
Cal 5, Saint Mary's 0 The Golden Bears (4-0) got out to a fast start to the day as their first two pairs flew through their opening sets. Sophomore Portia Sherman and junior Ella Dreibholz started with a 21-11 win. After falling behind 13-8 in set two, they quickly rallied and pulled away late to take it 21-17.
Across the way, junior Ella Sears and freshman Kendall Peters cruised to a 21-12 opening-set victory before dropping set two 24-22. They broke a 9-9 tie in the decisive third set with three straight points, closing out the Bears' first nailbiter of the season with a 15-12 win.
Kicking off the next set of matches, sophomore duo Marilu Pally and Gia Fisher rallied from five points down in set one and never looked back, claiming a 21-17, 21-9 victory. Senior Brooke Buchner and graduate student Lara Boos broke out of a pair of close sets, holding off a pair of SMU (1-1) comeback attempts in a 21-19, 21-16 sweep.
The No. 1 pair of Emma Donley and Alexandria Young-Gomez finished things off with a dominant 21-10, 21-13 win in the final match against the Gaels.
1 Emma Donley and Alexandria Young-Gomez (CAL) def. Sedona Sherman and Sadie Shipman (SMU)  21-10, 21-13 2 Marilu Pally and Gia Fisher (CAL) def. Order of finish: 4 5 2 3 1
No. 8 Cal 5, Santa Clara 0 In their afternoon matchup with the Broncos (0-2), the Bears comfortably handled every set by at least four points. Pally and Fisher went 21-8, 21-17 while Sherman and Dreibholz won 21-15, 21-17.
None of the Bears' final three pairs gave up more than 13 points in a set. Donley and Young-Gomez won set one 21-13 and finished things off on a cheeky bump winner to take set two 21-11. Sophomores Amelia Vugrincic and Jenna Colligan jumped out to 16-6 leads in both sets en route to a 21-13, 21-11 victory. Buchner and Boos ended the day with wins of 21-12 and 21-9.

mercifully God spared me today from running into any of the people to whom I would have said the following and so I managed to keep it all to myself until now
finishing the rough draft of the dissertation has put me in an introspective frame of mind
nothing I have to say will come as a surprise to you but it probably would have been upsetting to any of the people I would have seen over the course of a normal Monday
I've wanted to die for the last eleven years
I was extremely unhappy in my youth but I kind of understood this to be a more or less temporary state, either because I was going to die in a nuclear war, or the world would end by some other means before I reached adulthood, and I grit my teeth and endured
Sometimes at night as I tried to fall asleep I would imagine what my wife would be like and where she might be and what she might be doing in that very moment (she was just a couple miles down the road though I didn't know at the time) and I have come to realize, or recall, that at that time I was staking a lot on a future romantic partner to solve a lot of my life's problems (life would disabuse me of that notion before I got married), and I think at a deeper level what I had come vaguely to internalize very early in my life was that my emotional well-being was going to have to come from outside my family and I was going to have to escape
I always knew vaguely that I was supposed to find everything that I was looking for in God, but I did not and still do not understand how that sustains a person on a day to day level. Prayer does not replace breathing, so there are at least a few things that we need to sustain us outside prayer. Christians will tell me that other people are essential and that they are a critical means of communicating and receiving the love of God until the moment I am actually in need of love and then they invariably send me away to pray. I suppose being sent away is what it means to experience the love of God.
In my youth I always hoped that I was going to find what I was looking for in the next place, whatever was the next place, a new school, the new church. It never came, I never found it. I found my wife, I dated, I got married, it didn't fill me up but by then I didn't expect a romantic relationship to fill a person up anymore so this didn't seem out of the ordinary to me.
I kept all this up until the spring semester of my senior year in college. At that time I thought, vaguely, I was looking for friendship, or belonging, or something like that. Around April of 2012 I realized what I have been struggling to accept ever since, which is that whatever it is, I am never going to find it in this life, and I am not good enough for it anyway. In fact I am by virtue of the way I have lived my life, and perhaps by my very nature, disqualified from having it. Like Lancelot, so stupefied by his sin that he did not recognize the Grail when it passed before him, I would not even know it if I did find it. The problem was and remains within me.
I wanted to die.
One night during the senior week or whatever the college did a little booze cruise thing and I remember thinking that maybe I would just throw myself into the river, but the most serious thing that happened was that June, there was a .45 beside the bed, and one night, in that kind of reverie between wakefulness and sleep, I experienced what I can only describe as the temptation to shoot myself in the head. By which I mean that the sensation was precisely what you feel when you are looking at a dessert you know you shouldn't eat, or you are thinking of saying something you know you shouldn't say. I roused myself and the feeling passed.
I know that I have a reputation of just existing in a mire of depressive self-pity and never doing anything to make it better -- because of course if I did anything to make it better, it would get better -- but here are some of the things that I did in the last eleven years that I had hoped would make it better:
I invested in my relationships with my coworkers. I volunteered to play bass and guitar at my church to get involved. My wife and I moved to Japan for a little while. I drew a comic book. I volunteered at my new church. We had two children. I started seeing a therapist. I started running. I started WWII re-enacting. I went to graduate school. I worked full time while going to school full time. I volunteered to play music at my new church. I went to small groups in my church. I started seeing a new therapist. I started taking antidepressants. I got my Master's degree. I started running the music at my church. I moved. I bought a house. I started a PhD program. I tried to open myself up to people. I started seeing a new therapist. I got a second Master's degree. I went skydiving. I tried to open up even more, to new people. I lived in London for a semester. I traveled. I started teaching. I volunteered to play music at my new church. I finished a rough draft of my dissertation.
It never got better, and I do not think it ever will. I am very nearly out of ideas.
I think, to think that you want something, and to chase after it hoping that it will make you happy, is like drinking salt water. It can be a possession, it can be an experience, it can be a state of mind, it can be a person. It can be love. Wanting to feel loved--wanting to feel love as something other than punishment--can be an idol.
The more things I try to make it better, even good things, the worse I think it gets.
Anyone who seeks to save his life will lose it.
I have been clawing myself out of that hole for eleven years and enduring ridicule for all my failure not to be unhappy the entire time. I can't believe how angry people are with me for being unhappy. It infuriates them.
But, you know, it goes on, and I am reminded of the passage towards the end of Anna Karenina
And Levin, a happy father and husband, in perfect health, was several times so near suicide that he hid the cord that he might not be tempted to hang himself, and was afraid to go out with his gun for fear of shooting himself. But Levin did not shoot himself, and did not hang himself; he went on living.

KOKIA in flashback - 2009
After her 10th anniversary year, KOKIA does decidedly not take it easier in 2009. She releases two albums on the same day: KOKIA∞AKIKO ~Balance~ and AKIKO∞KOKIA ~Balance~, to celebrate the conclusion of her 10th anniversary year. The AKIKO album is only available via her webshop and at concert venues and is distributed via her own office, anco&co, whereas the KOKIA album is distributed via Victor Entertainment. She explains that the AKIKO album deals more with her ‘inner’ songs, as she feels she is both KOKIA the artist and Akiko the person.
She departs on a world tour this year, called infinity (as the ∞ symbol from her albums is the symbol for infinity), starting in Japan before traveling to France, Ireland, Poland, Belgium and Germany. This results in two concert DVDs: 2009 infinity tour at Tokyo, recording the performance in Tokyo, and Wherever I am, a 3 disc documentary covering her journey and performances abroad.
2009 also marks the start of her Life Trilogy digital singles, with the first two releasing this year. The final one will come out next year.

Labor Dispute Halts Rail Freight in Canada, Raising Supply Chain Concerns (NYT) Rail freight traffic in Canada came to a standstill early Thursday as the country’s two main rail companies locked out about 10,000 employees, a move that could cause supply chain disruptions in the United States and serious economic consequences within Canada. The move follows months of contract talks that failed to reach an agreement. The two companies, Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Kansas City, said before the lockout that their extensive routes within the United States would continue to operate, but many businesses there are likely to be affected. About 6,500 containers enter the United States by rail from Canada every day, according to the Railway Association of Canada, an industry lobbying group. That includes cargo from Asia and Europe that lands in Canadian ports. Rail shipments into Canada from the United States will also be halted.
Biden Approved Secret Nuclear Strategy Refocusing on Chinese Threat (NYT) President Joe Biden approved in March a highly classified nuclear strategic plan for the United States that, for the first time, reorients America’s deterrent strategy to focus on China’s rapid expansion in its nuclear arsenal. The shift comes as the Pentagon believes China’s stockpiles will rival the size and diversity of the United States’ and Russia’s over the next decade. The White House never announced that Biden had approved the revised strategy, called the “Nuclear Employment Guidance,” which also newly seeks to prepare the United States for possible coordinated nuclear challenges from China, Russia and North Korea. The document, updated every four years or so, is so highly classified that there are no electronic copies, only a small number of hard copies distributed to a few national security officials and Pentagon commanders. But in recent speeches, two senior administration officials were allowed to allude to the change—in carefully constrained, single sentences. “The president recently issued updated nuclear-weapons employment guidance to account for multiple nuclear-armed adversaries,” Vipin Narang, a nuclear strategist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who served in the Pentagon, said this month before returning to academia. “And in particular,” he added, the weapons guidance accounted for “the significant increase in the size and diversity” of China’s nuclear arsenal.
Panama starts returning migrants on US-funded flights (BBC) Panama on Tuesday started repatriating undocumented migrants on flights financed by the United States. The move comes less than two months after José Raúl Mulino was sworn in as Panama’s president. Mr Mulino campaigned on a promise to “close” the Darién Gap, the dangerous stretch of jungle which more than half a million migrants crossed last year on their way north from South America. The Biden administration said it had agreed to pay for the flights as part of its efforts to deter irregular migration. A group of 29 Colombians with criminal records were the first to be returned on Tuesday.
German warship blasts Darth Vader anthem in heart of London. ‘No deeper message,’ navy says. (AP) Germany’s navy says there was “no deeper message” in the choice to blast the famed Imperial March—Darth Vader’s theme song in the “Star Wars” films—from one of its warships as it cruised down the River Thames through London this week. A bystander captured the spectacle Monday on video, which quickly went viral on social media. The song selection made waves across Europe. The warship was in the area for training and dropped anchor in London for a normal supply stop, the German navy said. “The commander can choose the music freely,” the navy said in a statement Thursday. “The choice of music has no deeper message.” There’s no word whether Anakin Skywalker himself was aboard.
This superyacht hotspot for the uber-wealthy is heating up—and becoming more dangerous (CNN) The storm that sank the “Bayesian,” a luxury yacht anchored off the Sicily coast, was sudden, violent and deadly. The superyacht, which was carrying 22 people, sank in the early hours of Monday morning, near the port of Porticello, claiming at least five lives. Rescue operations have been hampered by the difficulties of reaching the vessel, which is resting on the sea floor approximately 165 feet deep. The incident has shocked many. The Mediterranean, prized for its crystal clear, tranquil waters, is a prime summer destination for the very wealthy and their superyachts. But these waters can still be dangerous—one of the reasons thousands of people die every year trying to migrate across it. Many believe the yacht was struck by a waterspout—one of several types of tornadoes. The coast guard reported the yacht was struck by a tornado, and a waterspout was reported to the European Severe Weather Database around the same time. Storms that day resulted in at least two dozen waterspout reports across Italy.
Poorly trained recruits contribute to loss of Ukrainian territory on eastern front, commanders say (AP) Some new Ukrainian soldiers refuse to fire at the enemy. Others, according to commanders and fellow fighters, struggle to assemble weapons or to coordinate basic combat movements. A few have even walked away from their posts, abandoning the battlefield altogether. While Ukraine presses on with its incursion into Russia’s Kursk region, its troops are still losing precious ground along the country’s eastern front—a grim erosion that military commanders blame in part on poorly trained recruits drawn from a recent mobilization drive, as well as Russia’s clear superiority in ammunition and air power. Commanders say the recruits have contributed to a string of territorial losses that enabled Russia’s army to advance, including near the city of Pokrovsk, a critical logistics hub. If it falls, the defeat would imperil Ukraine’s defenses and bring Russia closer to its stated aim of capturing the Donetsk region. Russian soldiers are now just 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) away.
Myanmar households crippled as currency tumbles to record low (Reuters) A rapid depreciation of Myanmar’s currency is pushing up the prices of essentials, including food and medicine, crippling ordinary households in the Southeast Asian country wrecked by civil war and a crumbling economy. The Myanmar kyat has been extremely volatile in recent days, plunging to a low of 7,500 to the dollar in the black market last week from 5,000 earlier in the month, according to four foreign exchange traders. The plunge followed reports that the Myanmar junta was printing more kyat to prop up the currency, two traders said. The kyat has since recovered to around 6,000 to the dollar in the black market while the central bank’s official reference rate was 2,100 on Tuesday, with an online market trading rate of 3,400. But prices of essentials have not come down, six residents said. The kyat’s fall, rising transportation costs and disruptions in border trade have sent costs of some medicines and groceries soaring in Myanmar’s main cities in recent weeks, they said. “It used to cost about 25,000 kyat ($11.94) per week for our household groceries until about a month ago but now it costs about 40,000 kyat,” said a 27-year-old housewife from Naypyitaw, Myanmar’s capital.
Hundreds of Ultra-Orthodox Israelis Clash With Police Over Draft (NYT) Hundreds of ultra-Orthodox Israeli men protested outside a conscription center in Jerusalem on Wednesday and clashed with police officers amid rising national tensions about a court decision ordering a draft for the insular community. Israel’s military began sending conscription orders last month to ultra-Orthodox men aged 18 to 26 after the Supreme Court in June ordered an end to exemptions that had been in place for decades. Military service is mandatory for most Israelis over 18, with some exceptions, such as for most Arab citizens. Before the ruling, over 60,000 ultra-Orthodox religious students of draft age were also formally exempt from service. The Israeli police said that they had sent reinforcements to try to maintain order, and Israeli news media reported that officers had sealed off several streets, used water cannons to disperse crowds and beaten some protesters with batons. The protest highlights the increased friction between Israel’s mainstream secular society and the ultra-Orthodox, the fastest-growing part of the population. Many ultra-Orthodox see full-time Torah study as crucial, arguing that this scholarship is what has ensured the survival of Jews for centuries.
The War in Gaza Is Making Thousands of Orphans (NYT) The war in Gaza is taking children from parents and parents from children, undoing the natural order of things, rupturing the basic unit of Gazan life. It is making so many orphans in such chaos that no agency or aid group can count them. Medical staff say children are left to roam hospital hallways and fend for themselves after being rushed there bloodied and alone—“wounded child, no surviving family,” some hospitals label them. Neonatal units house babies whom no one has come to claim. In Khan Younis, a volunteer-run camp has sprung up to shelter more than 1,000 children who have lost one or both parents, including the Akeilas. One section is dedicated to “only survivors,” children who have lost their entire families, except perhaps a sibling. There is a long waiting list. Amid the bombing, the constant pell-mell evacuations from tent to tent and apartment to hospital to shelter, no one can say how many children have lost track of their parents, and how many have lost them for good.
Copper and robbers (Wired) In most places, power companies are a pretty dull business. But in South Africa they are under a literal assault, targeted by heavily armed gangs that have crippled the nation’s energy infrastructure and claimed an ever-growing number of lives. Practically every day, homes across the country are plunged into darkness, train lines shut down, water supplies cut off, and hospitals forced to close, all because thieves are targeting the material that carries electricity: copper. The battle cry of energy transition advocates is “Electrify everything.” Meaning: Let’s power cars, heating systems, industrial plants, and every other type of machine with electricity rather than fossil fuels. To do that, we need copper—and lots of it. Second to silver, a rarer and far more expensive metal, copper is the best natural electrical conductor on Earth. We need it for solar panels, wind turbines, and electric vehicles. (A typical EV contains as much as 175 pounds of copper.) We need it for the giant batteries that will provide power when the sun isn’t shining and the wind isn’t blowing. We need it to massively expand and upgrade the countless miles of power cables that undergird the energy grid in practically every country. In the United States, the capacity of the electric grid will have to grow as much as threefold to meet the expected demand. A recent report from S&P Global predicts that the amount of copper we’ll need over the next 25 years will add up to more than the human race has consumed in its entire history. “The world has never produced anywhere close to this much copper in such a short time frame,” the report notes. The world might not be up to the challenge. Analysts predict supplies will fall short by millions of tons in the coming years. No wonder Goldman Sachs has declared “no decarbonization without copper” and called copper “the new oil.” In the past four years, the price of a ton of copper has shot from about $6,400 to more than $9,000. That, in turn, has made electrical wiring, equipment, and even raw metal fresh from the mines into juicy targets for thieves.

Life as a Senior NCO for a Head of Household that can't Provide.
Pyramids
We're getting back into some reoccurring issues we've known, and this time it involves some wealthy influences, especially in what is popular in the economy, and it's important to make distinctions sometimes to loosen up relations.
And I know you know these influences throughout American history in modern times. And you should think that throughout the Virginia country side the river system is fairly dynamic.
And I'll just use our weapons systems to help us set the terms of what is being said. But the F4 Phantom is still a relevant aircraft. Especially for us, with the volume of munitions capacity it is capable of.
And you'll just have to excuse any muting, considering the sensitivity of these issues, but after I completed Ranger School, had the objectives clearly defined, and moved on to a career path, and even gained experience in electronic repair at component level.
I didn't invent the modern idea of a semiconductor. Atari, Nintendo, Gameboy. None of those were any of my business.
However, manufacture of Semiconductors, and a formidable semiconductor layout, that would apply to a much broader range of applications, is where it's my game. And the main reason is specifically to facilitate a workforce and an institution, especially when you have to start getting into more advanced requirements.
And you remember, when me and "Taylor" worked in pharmaceuticals, we both worked for an individual that can easily be distinguished in person. And the development of the F22, is quite different then the weapons capacity of the F4 Phantom.
And that is where I learned to apply chemistry to both technology and regulation. And I'll be honest, chemistry is a much different industry in manufacturing, especially when you start to consider the potency of pharmaceuticals, such as fentanyl.
And the pressure placed on a worker, dramatically changes the terms of labor and expectations. And pharmaceuticals such as fentanyl really changes your perspective of what you would be willing to do for an honest living. And both compacting the chemistry, the more potent profits they generate, I just wasn't in any place to handle the pressures. And so I moved on.
But, in weapons systems, you would need a semiconductor to appropriately regulate the terms of what you are trying to convey, and that is where I am applicable.
For example this Mako Ballistic Missile, and another, such as a GA-ASI cruise missile.
And the differences are very obvious, especially when you are talking about first impressions. But the regulation of capabilities is also important. And the same as chemistry, when you start compacting capabilities, and applying them to labor expectations, it really makes a big difference when you start putting everything together.
And to me, I personally have limits on what we should expect from graduated capabilities. And Im just not willing to step that far out of the box. Even for limited research.
But a cruise missile allows an NCO to broaden work orders, in order to make expectations much more feasible. Where a ballistic missile, such as an ICBM, still has to retain a certain munitions value. And for that reason, ICBM's are much more difficult to manage.
Of course, "Taylor" was a Lab technician, where I was an electronics technician. So it's experience that would apply to a much more controlled and personal exposure, such as a Lab, and a much looser, high volume exposure, which you have to handle the equipment in, still scientific measures.
And it was quite a bit of pressure when the returns come in, and I just couldn't qualify the enumeration with what needed to be done.
Of course, THAAD makes a big difference when you are trying to define expectations for graduated applications. And THAAD is a much stronger forum to do things like this.
And so, as a result, an appropriate cruise missile, in conjunction with an appropriate Ballistic missile, those two together provide for the capabilities you are probably looking for. But an Area Defense System, will also be effective with controlling a "controlled environment."
And the results of a refined technology. A Technology that was thoroughly planned. That is the results you would be looking for, and then you'll find a much broader economy, such as Intel. And risk plays a factor when applying a technology. For example, a rank's personnel values are an important factor, when you are configuring capabilities, and weapons catalogs.

Here's A Question
Have you ever won anything? Big, small, competition, luck-based, raffle, gambling, ANYTHING.
I won tickets to see Mariah Carey in concert when I was in 8th grade. My first concert ever! Was from a local radio station. I had to identify a song from only the first few notes.
I won a CD Discman during my high school's huge graduation party. The school took the whole senior class out on grad night to avoid there being a bitch-ton of parties in a relatively small town. I think it was sponsored mostly by the police department and the local parents, both wanting to avoid any drunk driving accidents or other such things. It was a full-on over-night affair. We had a little cruise boat on the Delaware River where they had a DJ and candy gambling; then they trucked us to a very cool blacklight bowling alley, and then finally breakfast at a local diner that somehow had enough room for my whole graduating class. I won by doing a little song and dance for a teacher. They were randomly calling out little challenges during the bowling alley bit and I heard "Come make Mrs. Drexler laugh for a prize!" Mrs. Drexler was a known curmudgeon who barely even cracked a smile. I went over there with a glittery top hat from my goodie bag and basically performed "ONE" from A Chorus Line. I actually cracked her up. The prize was only supposed to be a coupon for a free ice cream at Friendly's or something like that, but they gave me the Discman instead since I made a real effort.
Another radio station, I won tickets to see TransSiberian Orchestra. They wanted to hear (clean) jokes. I told a dumb blonde joke.
I won $500 from my property management office's Christmas raffle. Just had to send a picture of how I decorated my apartment. I'd hung cascade twinkle lights off of all of the soffits and then hung ornaments from the wires as well. Also had festive collars on my kitties.
And I won $150 (Canadian) from a scratch ticket when I was visiting my then boyfriend in Calgary. (He had to cash it in for me since I was not a citizen of Canada.)
Not me, but my MOM, won a full-on Disney vacation week for four from yet another radio station. She had to be, like the 7th caller AND answer a trivia question. Now, my mom is not a huge Disney fan, but I am a Disney maniac and I'd dragged her to a more than a few Disney movies and she would give me VHS/DVDs for birthdays and Christmas. So any Disney knowledge she had was directly attributable to me. Said trivia question was "What DIsney movie is the only animated movie to be nominated for an Academy Award?" Mom says, "I know this one! It's my daughter's favorite movie! Beauty and the Beast!" Meanwhile, I'm in my car, on my way to work and I hear MY MOM on the radio. I had to pull over. After they asked the question, I was literally screaming the answer at my car stereo. She answers, she wins, and I have to contain myself until I get home after work. (This was before everyone had a cell phone. I think I had a Nokia Brick (tm).) Sadly, she did not take me on said Disney vacation (yes, I'm still a wee bit bitter). She took her husband (of course) and the two oldest granddaughters who were I believe 9 and 7 at the time, so good age. On the other hand, having the entire house to myself while they were gone was pretty cool. I had a party. They still don't know that I basically had a rave in their little Victorian house.

Ledgewood girls in Costa Rica
Tumblr media
During my junior and senior year of college I lived with 9 other girls on the corner of Ledgewood and Dana avenues at Xavier University in Cincinnati. The 10 of us became ‘the Ledgewood Girls’ and 25+ years later…the name still sticks.
Over the last several months 4 of the 9 other Ledgewood girls have made their way to Costa Rica for adventures. Liz and Gish came with Liz’s friend Ellen in January and we did all the things in La Fortuna and I was good about getting a blog up soon after. But then things got busy and I have not caught up on the blog since Mindy and Bridget/family visited!
Mindy and I were roommates right after college too and then she headed off to Chicago where she has lived since. It had been way too long since we hung out but we always go right back.
Tumblr media
Mindy came down for a chill week to escape the cold, gray Chicago winter back in February. While I worked she had a ‘Hotel Hochstetler’ staycation but we did manage to fit in a day trip to La Paz Waterfall gardens, the Starbucks coffee farm and some low key nights catching up on the patio soaking up the warm weather before she had to head back north.
Tumblr media
Loved catching up, Min!
Then in March, Bridget and her family came down for Semana Santa (Easter week/spring break). We planned a two part trip starting in the tropical dry forest of Guanacaste at Rio Perdido and then headed to the beach in Tamarindo.
Tumblr media
Rio Perdido was crazy hot and dry by this point in the dry season so the thermal river that Rio Perdido was known for and the hot spring pools weren’t exactly what we needed but we made the best of it and sweated through hikes, soaks and silly yoga moves.
Then we moved onto Tamarindo. We had an Airbnb with a gorgeous view up away from the town which turned out to be perfect since Easter Week is one of the 2 busiest weeks of the year in Costa Rica and specifically in Tamarindo.
Tumblr media
We had some fun adventures on ATVs and a sunset cruise, morning runs on the beach and afternoons soaking up the sun on the beach or up at our pool.
Tumblr media
Loved being able to spend the week making new memories with old friends. ❤️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cheers to Ledgewood in Costa Rica! Now I just need to get the rest of the girls here!
