Day 2: Anti-tourist day

After eating breakfast at one of the Hotel Figeroa's many restaurants, we walked up north to meet a tour guide Christopher to show us around Downtown LA (DTLA).  We could immediately tell that this seemingly young person, with a hipster jacket and a man bun, was a seasoned tour guide that loved this city. He had a deep passion for this city's architecture, life and crime history. He explained that DTLA was neglected due to lack of investment and that this area is avoided by most of the city due to the percieved crime. This meant however that the originality of buildings were left intact. He demonstrated this by showing us the Biltmore Hotel. From the outside it looked like a normal brick building. On the inside however, it was decorated in in a stunning Italian Renaissance style. It even hosted the Oscar's from 1930-1943. That was the first of many surprises as we wandered through the areas, whether it was Broadway, with its many old movie theaters, Little Tokyo, with its great mochi and bubble tea, or city hall with the informative murals and parks. We didn't know what to expect staying in DTLA but by the end of that tour, It made us want to explore the other unique areas of the city.

After achieving 20,000 steps we took a break at the hotel, watching our favourite guilty pleasure- TLCs 90 day fiance. We then spent the evening in Silver Lake based on a recommendation from our tour guide. The atmosphere was much more relaxed, with many coffee roastaries, pubs and restaurants. One thing that surprised us about this area was how quiet the side streets were compared to the main street- Sunset blvd. It almost seemed like a different city. We ate tapas at a spanish restaurant, with the anchovies stealing the show.

This experience made us appreciate all of LA, and if we ever come back, we know exactly where we are going to stay.

They're great for workflow and they really change the feeling of a coffee shop. Glad to see new entrants into the market.Illy launch their pod machineI'm not a big fan of Illy coffee. It's pretty bitter and very challenging to brew into a tasty espresso. In theory, this mirrors traditional Italian coffee but I think the reality is that it's just not very nice.Mick Fleetwood launches a line of coffee beansI'm pretty confident that some roastary out there is doing good work approaching celebrities and convincing them our beloved heros to put a face on a bag coffee. So I used to work in a coffee roastary yeah? At that job I used to drink SO MUCH coffee because it was there, it was free, and it was a good excuse to go chat with the cafe staff. When I left town for this other job my housemates don't really drink coffee and I roll out of bed so late that it's not worth it so my coffee intake has greatly decreased and apparently my tolerance has gone down because this morning I was out for brunch and drank like 4-5 cups of coffee on an empty stomach (I used to all the time) and it hit me fucking not too much later in fucking Walmart which is the WORST place to be tripping fuckin balls because it's a chaotic wasteland and I got super overstimulated and was just like aaaaahh 😐😐😐😐😓😓 trying to keepy shit together and met up with my friend like HEY. HOWS IT GOING DUDE HOW WASSKIINGOHMYGODIDRANK SO MUCH COFFEE HOW ARE YOU DID YOU SEE THAT SOFT ASS BLANKET WE NEED TO LEAVE WALMART NO I GOTTA GO. and had to DRIVE back on the highway for a HOUR completely fucking WIRED I was so ready I was pumped I was one with the road I lived the road be careful with stimulants kids
