my gaggle of villain(?) ocs that i got too attached to
Cowboyninjapirateman: His backstory is that he had a Really Weird Day where he got bitten by a radioactive cowboy. and a radioactive ninja. and a radioactive pirate. Luckily, he survived and gained the powers of all three.
Scylla: Using a forbidden knitting pattern, she created two sockpuppets that gave her the ability to control yarn. But who is puppet and who is puppeteer? At the very least, Scylla herself doesn’t seem to mind too much.
Stachemeister: This man has facial hair so glorious he can control all moustaches in the area to do his bidding. His own moustache is prehensile, and he can use it to fly.
Some Nerd:  they aren’t associated with these people, why are they even here

I finished working on my taxidermy jackalope.
She has real roe deer antlers and a wooden base. The pattern on the wooden base is that of my nan's old wallpaper, which I digitized from an old photo and recreated to line up in a repeating manner, as the original would have. Since rabbits used to live on the property, I figured it would suit this rabbit rather well.
I've been meaning to work on her since October, but now she is happily mounted and watching over my living room. I've named her Irina.

TITLE: You Have a Wonderful Future Behind You MATERIALS:  Tanned and dehaired squirrel hide (body), recycled platinum mink remnants (tail), mirrored stainless steel marbles (eyes), nickel plated bank pins (“rivets”), Silver Schlagmetal leaf, antique brass jewelry box feet, vintage Swarovski cut crystal acorn, deco-style black lacquer wood plinth, artificial turf
My most recent taxidermy sculpture just landed at Lovetts Fine Art gallery in Tulsa. The theme for their October exhibition this year was “Area 51”. I enjoy the challenge of coming up with concepts that fit into themed shows; this one pushed taxidermy to the outer limits. This piece was inspired by a theory that suggests extraterrestrial visitors are time traveling humans from the future. No one can predict the future, but there are inevitabilities in the foreseeable. More flora and fauna will go extinct. Technology will increasingly replace organic processes. Our world will slowly fill up with artificially created plants, artificially created animals, artificial environments, artificial intelligence, artificial companions, artificial workforce, artificial everything. After we are gone, there will only be monuments to what once was. This piece is intended not only to evoke the feeling of a monument, but also to mimic a trophy; a satirical award for our stellar stewardship of the planet.

Secret Saint of Nymeia - To: Sai
Tumblr media
A small wooden box, dressed in a festive green ribbon, was delivered to Sai by Muldoon. He was sworn to secrecy about who gave it to him, but the small card secured beneath the bow would reveal Violetta by name and script.
A Merry and Festive Starlight to You, Sai!
I hope that this gift makes your future retrievals all the easier.
Violetta Grimm
The box, with its rivers of dark and pale wood, was polished to a gleaming shine. A pair of brass clasps kept the lid fastened but were easy to pop open to reveal the contents. There was a leather roll, like that for thieves’ tools, inside the box, but the velvety lining was also shaped to cradle and secure the tools if Sai preferred the box over the roll.
Inside the roll, newly forged, lalafel-sized tools were organized neatly in their places. There were scalpels, scrapers, a razor, scissors, forceps, pliers, and pins. Additionally, there were a few small, waterproof bags and vials included in the petite taxidermist’s kit. If it was not readily apparent, Violetta had seen the opportunistic rogue collect a few small trophies from the recent dragonkin attack.

"OUR MUTUAL FRIEND" (1976) Review
Tumblr media
"OUR MUTUAL FRIEND" (1976) Review
I have a curious history with the 1998 adaptation of Charles Dickens' 1864-65 novel, "Our Mutual Friend". I had a lukewarm reaction to it when I first saw it. Following two re-watches of the miniseries, I became a major fan of it. So, when I discovered there had been an earlier adaptation of the novel, I did not hesitate to watch it. My efforts to view the 1976 miniseries, "OUR MUTUAL FRIEND" proved to be difficult, due more to availability reasons. But I finally managed to achieve it in the end.
Whether you are familiar with Dickens' tale or not, "OUR MUTUAL FRIEND" centered around the "death" of the heir to a fortune inherited from his father, a former collector from London's rubbish. The story begins with a solicitor named Mortimer Lightwood, who narrates the circumstances of the death of his client, a former dustman named Mr. Harmon, who collected London's rubbish, to his aunt and other guests at a society dinner. The terms of Old Harmon's will stipulated that his fortune should go to his estranged son John, who had returned to Britain after years spent abroad. John can inherit his father's fortune on the condition that he marry a woman he has never met, Miss Bella Wilfer. However, a Thames River waterman named Gaffar Hexam and his daughter Lizzie discover a corpse in the river with papers identifying the latter as John Harmon. When Mortimer learns of this death, he and his close friend Eugene Wrayburn head toward the river to identify the body. These events led to the following subplots:
*John Harmon fakes his death and assumes the identity of John Rokesmith, the Boffins' social secretary, in order to ascertain Bella Wilfer's character. John had recruited a sailor to impersonate him, but the latter betrayed him by drugging and later, robbing him. However, the sailor was later betrayed by others who not only robbed him, but also murdered him. The Hexams had discovered the sailor's body.
*Old Mr. Harmon's employees, Nicodemus and Henrietta Boffin inherit the Harmon fortune and take in Bella Wilfer as a ward to compensate for her loss, following John's "death".
*Gaffer Hexam's embittered former partner, Roger "Rogue" Riderhood falsely accused Hexam of murdering "Harmon".
*While accompanying his friend, Mortimer Lightwood, to identify Harmon's body, Eugene Wrayburn meets and falls in love with Hexam's daughter, Lizzie.
*Charley Hexam, Lizzie's younger brother, has a headmaster named Bradley Headstone, who becomes romantically and violently obsessed with Lizzie.
*Mr. Boffin hires a ballad-seller with a wooden leg named Silas Wegg to read for him. When he finds another will of Old Harmon's in the dust, he schemes with a taxidermist named Mr. Venus to blackmail his newly rich employer.
One of the reasons I had such difficulties in embracing the 1998 version of "OUR MUTUAL FRIEND" was the complex nature of the narrative. The story began with the death of the fake John Harmon and the latter's deception and spiraled out into different subplots. Years ago, I had made the mistake of assuming that most of these subplots had no connection whatsoever. Following my other viewings of the 1998 miniseries and this production, I now realize that the subplots had three major connections - money, class and John Harmon. Nearly every subplot had something to do with money, class or both. As for John Harmon . . . I found myself pondering on the fates of the main characters if John had not made that decision to recruit that sailor into his deception regarding his identity. Perhaps some of the subplots would have panned out - John and Bella's marriage (if he had agreed to the terms of his father's will), Charley Hexam's education, Lizzie Hexam's introduction to Bradley Headstone and her subsequent rejection of his marriage proposal. But there are some - Lizzie meeting Eugene Wrayburn, Eugene and Bradley's conflict, and Silas Wegg's attempt to blackmail Boffin - definitely would not have happened if John had not engaged in any deception on his part. Nearly the entire story seemed to be a case of "the Six Degrees of John Harmon".
One story arc from the novel seemed to be missing in this series - namely the attempt made by elite, yet impoverished newlyweds Alfred and Sophronia Lammle to befriend and scam a young heiress named Georgiana Podsnap. I can understand why the screenwriters had never included this arc into the miniseries, considering that the Lammles and Miss Podsnap had no connection to John Harmon, whatsoever. But apparently, the screenwriters had decided to delete them altogether, unlike screenwriter Sandy Welch, who had used the Lammles to go after Mr. Boffin in the 1998 adapation.
And how did "OUR MUTUAL FRIENDS" handled the narrative's multi-arcs? I thought director Peter Hammond, along with screenwriters Julia Jones and Donald Churchill managed to handle them quite well. Despite the various arcs being scattered to winds, all three managed to convey how they all connected in the end. My only complaint was how the director and the writers introduced the various arcs. I noticed that they mystery surrounding the discovery of John Harmon's body seemed to dominate the series' first episode, whereas the introductions of the Boffins and Bella Wilfer seemed to dominate the second. This seemed to give "OUR MUTUAL FRIEND"'s narrative a "paint-by-the-numbers" style in the miniseries' first third. From Episode Three and onward, Hammond, Jones and Churchill seemed to have no trouble juggling the various arcs within an episode.
But as much as I had enjoyed "OUR MUTUAL FRIEND", I have a few quibbles. Like a good number of BBC/ITV costume dramas between the 1950s and the 1980s, this production seemed to suffer from from the occasional slow pacing, due to Hammond shooting the miniseries more like a stage play. Granted, there were a few scenes that seemed avoid this fallacy, due to being filmed in an exterior setting - the Hexams' discovery of the fake John Harmon's body, Lizzie Hexam's discovery of the dying Betty Higden and Bradley Headstone's attack upon Eugene Wrayburn. But a good number of scenes - mainly those with interior settings and those that featured Silas Wegg and Mr. Venus' blackmail conspiracy - seemed to drag nearly forever, to the point that I found myself wondering if I was watching a televised stage play. I have one last complaint. The miniseries ended with the main characters briefly discussing Bradley Headstone's fate with a few words, not long after Eugene and Lizzie's marriage. As much as I had enjoyed this production, I found this ending rather abrupt and cold - quite disappointing, when I recall how the 1998 miniseries had ended.
As much as I had enjoyed many of the performances in the miniseries, there were the occasional bouts of hammy acting that left me wincing. For me, the biggest offenders proved to be Alfie Bass, Edmond Bennett, David Troughton, and Kathleen Harrison. Do not get me wrong. They all managed to convey their characters' personalities very well. But I believe they had indulged just a bit too much in stagey or hammy acting for my taste. But there were performances that I had actually enjoyed. Granted, performers like Leo McKern and Polly James, who portrayed Mr. Boffin and Jenny Wren respectively, had their moments of hammy acting. But I thought they managed to give first-rate performances in the long run, creating some memorable interpretations of their characters. However, the series featured some excellent supporting performances from the likes of Andrew Ray, Hilda Barry, John Collin, Ray Mort, Patricia Lawrence and Ronald Lacey.
The miniseries also featured some outstanding performances. They included John McInery as the intelligent, yet compassionate John Harmon; Lesley Dunlop, whose Lizzie Hexam managed to be warm and caring without any taint of treacly behavior; Jack Wild as Lizzie's eager and ambitious younger brother Charley Hexam; and Warren Clarke as Bradley Headstone, who managed to be both sympathetic, yet frightening at the same time. Yet, I believe the two best performances came from Nicholas Jones and Jane Seymour as Eugene Rayburn and Bella Wilfer. Jones gave a subtle, yet very complex performance as the roguish Eugene, who seemed torn by his love for Lizzie and his reluctance to pursue her honestly, due to her lower class. Seymour's portrayal of Bella struck me as equally complex, as she managed to convey her character's growing development from the mercenary and shallow girl to a warm, generous and yet spirited woman.
Aside from the opening shot of the Thames River for each episode, I must admit that I found myself unimpressed by Elmer Cossey's cinematography and Sam Barclay's lighting. Not only did I find the miniseries' visuals rather flat, but also a bit too dark. On the other hand, I thought Chris Pemsel's production designs pretty spot-on. I thought he did a competent job in re-creating mid-19th century London and England. I especially have to give praise to Robin Fraser-Paye's costume designs. I found his costumes - especially for female characters like Bella Wilfer, Lizzie Hexam, Mrs. Boffin and Jenny Wren - rather exquisite, as shown in the image below:
Tumblr media
As for the hairstyles featured in "OUR MUTUAL FRIEND" . . . I have mixed feelings about them. I have no idea who the hairstylist was, but he or she did managed to come close in re-creating mid-19th century hairstyles. Only those worn by most of the younger female characters seemed to be loose curls or flowing curly hair in the style of those featured in many pre-Raphaelite paintings - especially by Lesley Dunlop and Polly James. Although such hairstyles were popular in mid-19th century art (especially in Britain), I have grave doubts that many women - or many young women between the 1840s and the 1860s wore their hair in such a manner.
Overall, I cannot deny that "OUR MUTUAL FRIEND" was a first-rate adaptation of Charles Dickens' 1864-1865 novel. Yes, I had a few issues that included the miniseries' photography, some writing decisions, a few over-the-top performances and the belief that I felt I was watching a filmed play. But despite these quibbles, "OUR MUTUAL FRIEND" also featured some top-notch performances from a cast led by John McInery and a screenplay by Julia Jones and Donald Churchill that did Dickens' novel proud.

This not specifically @ anyone but from years of seeing taxidermy so many like 'celebrity' taxidermists have such crunchy looking mounts?
Like there so many studios and small time or new taxidermist that do phenomenal life-like work to the point that it's difficult to even distinguish them from live animals. Meanwhile there's the celebs who are super popular but have pretty mediocre work. Nothing is perfect for sure but it's just disappointing to see the same 'rogue' taxidermy piece with a lifeless expression or iffy sclupting or paint job from the same people 10+ years later.

Characters who suffered the worst development.
You know there are a lot of characters who develop for the better, whether a submissive character turns into a mother effing badass or they turn from a hero to a villain like Walter White from Breaking Bad or villain to a hero like Loki in the MCU.
But there are some characters who ended up suffering the worst development overtime. Whether they turn into outright jerks or wimps.
Here are the characters who had the worst development and deserved way better.
Eric Foreman - That 70′s Show
Tumblr media
Eric was the protagonist of the series where he was portrayed as a sensible and smart guy of the group. He loved Donna so much and was constantly berated by his father Red and he always tried his best to be better at things. But as the series progresses he ended up becoming a lazy buffoon and a bit of a jerk as he ended up taking a gap year from college and did a lot of random things and wasn’t that good to Donna as he ran out on her on their wedding day because he had cold feet all the while Donna ended up sacrificing her college to stay with him and when he decided to be a teacher in Africa, he broke up with Donna over the phone because “they were going on different paths”. What a tool.
Rory Gilmore - Gilmore Girls
Tumblr media
Rory started off as a young smart girl who is hard-working in her studies and dreams to go to Yale one day. However as the series progressed, she ended up doing a lot of reckless actions like stealing a boat and decided to give up and drop out of Yale just because some asshole said to her she will never be a journalist. Even worse she ended up forcing an already married Dean into having an affair with her and once she finally stood up and become independent and pursue her dreams of becoming a journalist, it was revealed she was unemployed the whole time, like why?
Peter Parker - Sam Raimi’s Spiderman Trilogy
Tumblr media
Oh oh where to start with this one? Peter Parker in this version first started off as a timid nice guy who wanted to use his spidey powers for good as Spiderman and was traumatised due to the death of his uncle Ben. Later he ends up being possessed by a symbiote which results in him being more aggressive. While at first it was so cool seeing him stand up to Harry and Eddie for their misdeeds, he ended up being a f***ing arrogant bitch who was so egotistical and was shitty to everyone around him, including Gwen and Mary Jane and kept on playing the victim card to get what he wants. And what the hell was “Emo Peter”?
Darlene Alderson and Dominique Dipierro - Mr. Robot
Tumblr media
For Domlene fans, keep in mind, I am not slandering their relationship or their own episode “Gone” where they got good endings by finding themselves and what they need to work on. But I gotta be honest about how their characters went before that episode throughout Season 4. Both Darlene and Dom started off as badass characters in their own right. The former was a foul mouthed no nonsense lovable rogue and the latter was an assertive and smart FBI agent assigned to solve the 5/9 hack by fsociety. In Season 3 they were shown to be dealing with a lot of issues at hand and tried to push through it. And when they find they had something in common, their relationship began to slowly flourish, but come the season 3 finale which did a complete 180 on them thanks to the Dark Army. In Season 4, Darlene ended up becoming their Damsel in Distress constantly where she keeps on getting captured or have a hit put out on her in order to get to Elliot and rely on him and Dom to save her and Dom ended up becoming a weak and submissive doormat for them after she got forced into being their mole (though it was pretty cool when she killed that asshole taxidermist). All I am saying is, yes, badass women can be vulnerable and stressed out but do it in a proper way where they don’t become damsels without fighting back (Darlene) or make them a doormat for the majority of the season (Dom).
Dexter Morgan - Dexter
Tumblr media
Dexter Morgan is a serial killer who has a Dark Passenger bloodlust that makes him go after the scumbags who got away with their crimes. As the series progressed Dexter figured out that he may have been able to feel things, especially love for Rita, Debra and Harrison and stress when things are not going his way. But time and time again he ended being a bit to reckless and selfish in his actions and ended up having an unwanted romantic arc with Hannah McKay and dragged Debra down with him in his serial killer life, which resulted in her killing LaGuerta to cover up her brother’s misdeeds and later dying from a gunshot wound at the hands of Oliver Saxon. This later caused Dexter to abandon Hannah and Harrison and hide out in Oregon to become a lumberjack! Hallelujah for the reboot.
Cordelia Chase - Buffyverse
Tumblr media
That one development which angered the Buffy fans. Cordelia Chase was one of the lead female characters of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and the female lead of the spin-off Angel. She was shown to be a confident and badass woman who at first was the queen bee but turned to a tough warrior in her own right. Sadly, due to J*ss Wh*don giving Charisma Carpenter a huge disproportionate retribution for getting pregnant, Cordelia was given a lot of horrible storylines. Like being sent to heaven and then returning to earth as a different person when she sleeps with her own teen son and does a lot of bizzare things and ultimately she is put in a coma off-screen. A true definition of wasting such a great character.
Ross and Monica Geller - Friends
Tumblr media
Ross and Monica are siblings who are a bit competitive but still care about each other. Both of them had started off normal with their individual personalities. Ross being a paleontologist who just got out of a divorce and tries to pick himself back up and Monica is a perfectionist who is pressured to make things in control around her, possibly due to her mother making snide remarks at her in the past. But as the series progressed, both ended up getting flanderized in different ways. Ross ended up being too controlling of the women he dates and later his sad sack tendencies ended up playing up to 11 which made him look like a parody of himself and Monica went from a caring Team Mom to an outright competitive Alpha Bitch who had the need to control and compete at everything for the evulz. Like when she was Phoebe’s wedding planner, she went full on Chris Hargensen on her by organising things the way she wants it and not Phoebe’s, which frustated the latter to the point she rightfully fired her. But Monica was left so scorned that she decided to rain down hell upon Phoebe and humiliate her.
Daenerys Targaryen - Game Of Thrones
Tumblr media
Finally we are here. Daenerys was a really badass character in Game of Thrones. She at first was a slave for her abusive older brother but then stood her ground and ended up becoming a fearless leader who wanted to save Westeros and protect it from the evil villains. She was kind to almost everyone and helped others around her. Not only that but she served as an inspiration for a lot of women and girls in real life. Sadly, Season 8 had drained her whole character down the toilet when she was put through a lot of trauma and losses which resulted in her snapping and burning down the entire King’s Landing which killed innocents and planned on taking control of Westeros with tyranny in mind. This eventually caused Jon to kill her in a really anti-climatic manner. This was a horrible example of putting a character through huge amounts of trauma and making them evil out of nowhere. She was not Arthur Fleck, y’all.
