@the-haunted-office said: A strange sound can be heard coming from somewhere down the hallway. Like the soundtrack of a piano being thrown down the stairs on repeat. It sounds violent and discordant and threatening.
"Sounds like we've got a spook," Joey comments as he glances at the door, looking away from the youtube video Rosa had put on for him.
She scrunches her face for a moment. "I thought they said they don't get ghosts like we do in our world?"
"Doesn't mean they don't get ghosts though," Joey argues with a shrug.
She looks at him for a moment, he feigning casualness even though she knows he's been just waiting to pick up what they usually did. She sighs and pinches her temple and groans. "Alright fine, we'll go check it out,"
So off the pair go towards the source of the strange sound, Joey scouting ahead first in case it's something dangerous.

I’ve been a translator from Catalan for almost fourteen years, and something that never fails to astonish me is the vibrancy of the Catalan literary tradition. Whether a re-discovered classic or a startling young author from the near-constant flurry of innovative writing, there are always new voices to be unearthed, and the time-worn phrase “embarrassment of riches” comes to mind.
[...]
It’s this commitment in Wilder Winds to unflinching honesty and genuine emotion that is shared by the books on this list. Whether it be the realities or war, anarchism or autism, these voices offer the reader an intimate glimpse into other lives that never feel distant from our own. I’ve chosen eight books that demonstrate the richness of Catalan literature over the last century or so, but there are literally dozens more I could have chosen. Think of what follows, then, as less of a reading list and more of an amuse-bouche to whet your reading appetite for Catalan literature in English.
Are you interested in reading Catalan books that have been translated to English? Read this article to find 8 books that the translator Laura McGloughlin recommends (mostly novels, some short story books, and one poetry book).

I was talking with a friend of mine about how there wasn't an entity for the fear of the cold in The Magnus Archives, and we came to the conclusion that the cold could very much fit in the desolation. Like when there is a snow storm in a place that isn't used to it, it can bring a lot of destruction. Say goodbye to food because all of the crops will die and because of that all of the animals will die and then all of the people will die. You don't even need to go that far, just think about all of the times someone tried to invade Russia during winter
It's very funny for me because of the whole, you know, fire aesthetic that The Desolation normally has, but it's still a possibility

it must have been lonely. (yesenia @ rosa)
Meme? / Accepting!
So far as New York ever could be, it was a quiet night, her ginger locks gently blowing in the breeze as she leans onto the railing of the Brooklyn Bridge, looking out at the river she spread her aunts ashes. There's little trust between her and Yesenia, but a mutual desire to live, and the other quickly has been proving important to that. For that, it had only felt appropriate to share a bit about herself. How her parents died when she was young due to a car crash, how she was sent to live with her aunt Lauren for a few years until Lauren had a psychotic break, much like her grandmother Patricia had years before, how Rosa had spent the rest of her childhood in foster care, bouncing around until she aged out.
"I guess it was," She cautiously admits, unsure if this sympathy was genuine, or would be wielded against her. "Might explain why I find people so... hard, like I can't help but be this awkward mess when it counts,"
She glances over at Yesenia. "Have you not had a lot of, consistent, people around too?"

@magnifiico continued from here!
Hershel was a man with a love of puzzle solving. No matter their simplicity or intensity, the professor could figure out the solution in only a matter of minutes, if it even took that long at all. It stumped him as to why he couldn't have been able to figure out something as easy as a precise address, but the residents of Rosas seemed to have no ideas either. Was he sent on a wild goose chase? Was this what he was meant to believe? There was no other indication from the letter, which started to make him doubt his selflessness. He had hope he hadn't been tricked; how foolish he would be to be sent away from his home to help nothing. No, he had to have missed something, somewhere.
Before the professor can delve too much into his own mind, a wave from an incoming person drags him from the desperate depths. Simple, formal finger flutters, and the beaded eyes had the king's full attention. Royalty was unbeknownst to Hershel, but it wouldn't take very long to find that out. Most people were open with him, as he was to them, unless they had something to hide. If this well-dressed gentleman had stepped out of his way to assist him, that gave the idea to Hershel that he had nothing to fear. Unless, of course, he was proven wrong. He'd cross that bridge when he got there.
"Greetings to you too, sir," Hershel replied, tipping his hat carefully in his own modest introduction. He wouldn't argue with the new face that surely was no stranger to Rosas. Not only was he somebody unfamiliar with the kingdom, he was his own beacon in some unpractical way. The archaeologist was lost, stiff in the ways he stood, and confused. Almost everyone in the kingdom Hershel came across had some sort of joy to them, something he unfortunately was lost to for the time being. That didn't stop him from giving Magnifico an inch of a smile, though.
"Right you are. My presence has been requested within this general area, however to where I'm meant to be is beyond my knowledge. I've searched outside of this kingdom for my answer, but only now do I venture within its boarders. I asked plenty of townsfolk for assistance, but I've had little luck." A nervous chuckle escaped the professor and then gave Magnifico a somewhat wider smile. "Your help would be grateful! I appreciate your offer, kind gentleman."
A hand reached under his coat, only to pull out a letter. The piece of paper was handed to Magnifico. "This is the invitation I had received, alongside an address. Would you happen to know where I'm meant to be heading?"
Said address actually lead to somewhere inside Rosas! Unfortunately for Hershel and the residents the professor had spoken to prior, this is a very tucked-away street. Most wouldn't have heard of it, but the king might've. Hershel's eyes gazed at the letter, then softly up at the noble, silently waiting for him to give him the final piece of the puzzle he needed.

Rosa has done nothing but stare numbly at her phone for what feels like hours. Hilda's simple messages are followed by one of her own, as well as by an eerie notification.
[ 📲 • sms ⇢ Hilda ] don't be sorry. what's happening?
Failed.
That's weird... she has a full signal on her Rotom phone. She tries again, only to get the same response. Suddenly, the dread that she's been pushing back overcomes her and anxiety squeezes the air out of her lungs.
Something terrible has happened and there's nothing she can do about that. Right now, her focus should be shifting to what she can do to keep her own region safe from something that even master trainers are no match for.
But all she can do is think of Hilda.
"Please be okay..." she says quietly, her bottom lip quivering. Deep down in her heart, she's afraid it might be too late. Nevertheless, she refuses to give up hope. Reshiram is with Hilda, after all.
But... what should she tell Red?
