okay i know i owe a few people updates on the rosacea products i'm trying but i don't remember who i've told what, so here is an overall rundown:
(for reference i have type 1 rosacea and probably ocular rosacea as well [i have upcoming appointments with both my dermatologist and an opthamaologist to confirm and treat]. prior to this i had fairly dry skin but never had any problems with acne or flushing/blushing.)
vanicream: i'm still using the vanicream cleanser. it hasn't caused any problems at all for me so i'm not messing with it. it is, however, definitely not strong enough to remove makeup or sunscreen.
skin1004 madagascar centella toning toner: the first couple of times i used it my skin got so visibly better that i kind of couldn't believe it. the next few times it was a toss up whether it would make my skin better or worse. i stopped using it for about a week and then slowly worked it back in. it's definitely making my skin as a whole better, but i'm not sure if it's helping the rosacea specifically and sometimes it feels like it's making it worse, but it always calms down by the morning.
prescription azelaic acid: i think it's helping with the rosacea. it's definitely not hurting it and it makes my skin smoother in general. i've read that it can cause itching though and i definitely have an itching problem. so i'm hoping once i get my skin barrier fixed that won't be a problem anymore.
skin1004 madagascar centella probio-cica intensive ampoule: same situation as with the toner; the first couple of times it was like a miracle and then my skin kind of went crazy and it became a toss-up whether or not it would help or make it worse. i stopped using it when i initially stopped using the toner but i haven't added it back in yet. i will eventually though.
procure rosacare hyaluronic hydrogel: i love this product. it has never once made my rosacea worse and it's the only "moisturizer" that doesn't feel like wax on my skin. i'm not sure that it actually treats the rosacea in any way but the green tint helps reduce the appearance of the redness and in general it helps keep my skin from feeling tight. plus it's relatively cheap.
procure rosacare serum: i've tried this as an actual part of my routine on and off over the past year and i don't think it makes a difference? but! if i'm having trouble with flushing/heat, it works temporarily to relieve that. definitely more of a rescue medication so to speak (but also i've learned that a low dose of aspirin works fairly well also).
nizoral anti-dandruff shampoo: so apparently rosacea can cause dandruff on your face? if your skin is flaky/peeling but it's oily, you have dandruff. i genuinely cannot tell if i have that problem. my skin will be oily one day and then dry as the sahara the next but i figured i'd try it anyway. i can't tell if it's actually helping but when i use it, my skin immediately feels the softest it's felt in over a year. so i've been using it every three days after the vanicream.
vanicream moisturizing cream: it doesn't make anything worse but it doesn't make it any better either. and it makes my skin feel so waxy which i hate so much.
honest company hypoallergic diaper rash cream: didn't make anything worse but didn't make anything better either and the sensation of having it on my skin made me want to claw my face off. it's so oily??
cetaphil redness relieving night moisturizer: HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE. this is, hands down, the worst thing i've ever put on my skin in my entire life. it immediately turned my entire face red and hot and caused a huge rosacea flare-up that took days to calm down even a little bit. this product is my arch nemesis and i will never go near it again.
for the ocular rosacea, i've used ocusoft wipes, optase tea tree oil cleansing gel, and the optase hypochlorous acid spray. none of them seem to work any better than just using vanicream, and the optase actively dries my eyelids out. but i have read that hypochlorous acid might be good if you have both rosacea and acne prone skin, so if that applies to you, it might be worth looking into.
other important things: i've found that using any of these products more than once a day is too much. i'm only using them at night (the only exception being that i use the vanicream to wash my eyelids twice a day). i've also tried a prescription sulfur wash and miconozale in the past with no real luck but i'm not sure i gave either of them enough of a chance so as of right now i have no thoughts on them.
at some point i'm going to try the aveeno calm+restore triple oat serum and the beauty of joseon cleansing balm. i'll let y'all know how that goes.
if any other rosacea sufferers want to add to this with the things they've tried and how it went, feel free. <3

Recently I've learned that unfortunately I have rosacea. For those of you who don't know, that's a skin condition resulting in inflamed and reddish skin in the face, as well as pimples. It gets triggered by all kinds of things like sunlight, exercise, spicy foods, though this list is different for every person who has it.
I'm currently still in the process to figure out what is causing it. There will be triggers I can't avoid and those I don't want to avoid (e.g. I won't stop exercising just so I have a better chance for clear skin) and some that I will do my best to avoid.
One of the things that makes me sad is that citric acid seems to be on the list of triggers, which means saying bye to pretty much... anything that's more sour than a tomato. Bye juices, bye sodas, bye energy drinks. Bye most condiments.
But at least this kind of restriction breeds innovation in me because I just realised that, really, most condiments are just water, canola oil, thickening agent and spices.
Which means I can just make my own garlic sauce >:3c
If you're wondering how much our kitchen smells like garlic, the answer is "yes".

I really wish I wouldn’t get told that a decision I make is wrong due to common beliefs that have not been deeply researched.
I recently went on a mostly fruit diet with no animal products because I want to heal my rosacea, which I discovered is linked to many autoimmune diseases, one of the most prevalent in my family is type 2 diabetes.
Upon doing research about skin problems and why they manifest, I came across information about the kidneys and poor filtration through the liver which leads to waste being taken out on the skin if your organs are not working together to remove the waste normally.
I did my research to understand what could work to finally heal my rosacea since it is so deeply misunderstood and judged. All my life I’ve been criticized because of it until I got older and stopped caring so much. But more than just aesthetic purposes, I want to heal my body from the inside out and it causes so much anger for me at times when I open up about these choices I’m making to better myself and I get told I’m not consuming enough protein or that I need to eat meat or eggs or whatever it may be that common media shares.
Our biology closely resembles frugivores, not carnivores. The only way we “safely” consume meat and animal products is by cooking, pasteurizing, or doing some sort of process to make it edible. That, to me, doesn’t make any sense. We get told to eat fruits and vegetables when we’re sick because they heal so wouldn’t it make sense to consume food we know to be healing most of the time?
How can we use it as medicine and then turn around and say “oh you can’t eat too much fruit because of the sugar” as if simple fruit sugar is equivalent to processed refined sugar… also, all our cells need sugar. Our body runs on glucose… which is sugar. Literally everything we consume gets transformed into glucose. Insulin gets released into the bloodstream to help transport glucose to our organs so we have energy and can function. So even foods that are low in sugar get turned into glucose… which again, is sugar. Processed sugar, like any processed food, is bad for you. It is not the same as eating raw fruit - the food the Earth created for us to consume. (Is it really that surprising that the food we can naturally consume is the most healing food for us? It’s almost as if our biology, which resembles frugivores in nature, is made for the consumptions of fruits. Amazing.)
This whole idea that protein is everything was not emphasized until the last 1000 years or so. Protein was not emphasized as the most important source of sustenance for all time. Fruits and vegetables were. There are entire cultures that thrive off of fruits and vegetables and do not struggle with the same level of disease as we do.
It’s so annoying that veganism or any sort of diet with a strong focus on fruits and vegetables gets criticized so much. I’m not pushing my choices on anyone and I wish their choices didn’t get pushed on me, especially coming from people who are currently struggling with health issues and are trying multiple protocols that are not working. It doesn’t make sense to take advice from someone else who is trying to figure it out and is not succeeding yet I’m being criticized personally for taking advice from sources who have healed themselves and others.
No one will know my body better than me. I have tried to get assistance from doctors and dermatologists. None of them have helped. Some have even made things worse by giving me medications that suppressed my symptoms for a few weeks only for them to come back stronger and then I got prescribed a more intense medication with tons of side effects. If I cannot trust in myself and intuitively listen to my body, then I will never heal. My body is my own. My choices are my own. Feel free to judge them when I am not around but keep your negativity to yourself. I’ve only being doing this for two days and I feel so much better, my digestion is better, and my rosacea is not flaring up. That cannot be a coincidence. Please stop listening to mass media and do your own research to heal your body and mind.

my rosacea products update is that the vanicream daily facial moisturizer with ceramides and hyaluronic acid (not the moisturizing skin cream) is the best thing that's ever happened to my skin. i've been using just that with the vanicream cleanser and nothing else and i swear i can actually feel my skin barrier healing. the only negative thing i have to say about it is that it's not as lightweight as the rosacare one but it works better so it's a tradeoff i'm willing to make.

Rosacea acne is SO FUN because it heightens EVERY emotion. Embarrassed? Full face blush. Angry? Full face blush. Cardio? Full face blush. Laughing? Full face blush. One compliment? Full face blush. Slept funny? Full face blush. Makeup that is anything but the perfect formula? Full face blush but now it’s ✨color corrected✨. You can’t win. Feeling like Amity Blight 24/7.

Flexing some of the visual research I did in the process of developing this character pose sheet :) I actually do quite a lot of visual research for each project I take on, but I generally don't post them alongside the designs. Thought it might be interesting to include it for a change!
I posted a black and white version of this sheet a couple months ago, but I thought it would be fun to add the colors since I had already determined a color scheme for the design! I had a lot of fun including props in the poses I drew— maybe I will do some renderings for a prop lineup soon 👀 psst be sure to check out my portfolio site if you wanna see more

Demodex life cycle
The Demodex life cycle is key to understanding how these tiny mites affect human skin. Spanning about 14 to 16 days, the Demodex life cycle begins when females lay eggs inside hair follicles or sebaceous glands. Within 60 hours, larvae hatch and mature into adults over the next seven days. This rapid progression makes the Demodex life cycle a critical factor in issues like rosacea, acne, and hair loss.
Demodex mites follow a predictable pattern in their life cycle: at night, they surface to mate and then retreat back beneath the skin to lay eggs. Their quick reproduction rate and long lifespan make the Demodex life cycle challenging to control with short-term treatments. To manage these mites effectively, it’s crucial to target both adults and larvae over multiple stages of the Demodex life cycle, ensuring a long-term solution.
