these are some edits i made for the fairy council from the land of stories. all moodboards were made by me and contain my watermark on them. all images used were found on pinterest and edited on picsart. while i own the edits, i DO NOT own the individual pictures used ^^
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i plan to make more edits whenever i can during study breaks (because exams are so annoying <3) but yea! pretty proud of how these turned out, hopefully the people in the tlos fandom agree and i’ve done the characters justice. some of the characters have lil backstory references in their moodboards which was fun to add in ^^
i am..a little annoyed now that i put ‘mother goose’ instead of just like ‘lucy goose’ or smth cause now it looks a little odd but oh well- what’s done is done. anyways, till the next post (which…might be soon who knows lol <33)

xanthous, froggy said you were overdramatic
Thank you for your interest in keeping me informed.
Onto the statement, it’s not surprising to me that he may think this way. Many people consider me “over-dramatic” due to my predilection for exuberant displays when it comes to massive gatherings or formal events. It is, however, something I have a tendency to do as a way to catch the attention of the audience. I may not agree with Mother Goose on many fronts, but there is one thing she is correct about. The audience loves a show, and I am more than happy to oblige. Though, Tangerina has more choice words on the issue. I was made to listen to accusations of hypocrisy in relation to the actions of his wife and her preference for dramatics as well. Though, I still wish them both the best, despite whatever reservations they may have in regards to me.
—Sincerely, Xanthous.

WHAT THE HAPPENE TO ROSETTE?
She’s young like six.. in the tale of magic page 394 she’s there
Talks to them then sorceress her aunt
Then the aunt is like “magic and witch craft are both the same thing, it’s what our hearts do with it blah-blah”
And then they discovered that madam weather berry lied
BUT
that’s all the reason rosette was there
And was not there at all in the other books
BUT SHES APART OF THE COUNCIL SO HOW
using big brain math, xanthous was 11 in the first book then he was 14 in the last so she would be around 9. I’m losing my mind she might of been too young or some shit
That’s my rant
Enjoy your life

The Photograph - 8th Letter
Katniss is coming back home.
AO3  FFN
................
20 April
Dear Uncle Haymitch,
I finally did it. I finally got to see and take a hundred photos of the magnificent Amur snow leopard hybrid. She was beautiful, Haymitch. Easily three times my size, she glides smoothly across the forest floor as if she weighs nothing at all. Her tail is as long as her body, perfect for balance while crossing steep and rocky terrains. The color of her fur was a smoky grey with a yellowish hue; there were also rosette markings all over her coat. I had to stop looking through my camera to watch her -- she stretched her strong-muscled legs, licked her fur, and moved her ears at the slightest sound. We stalked her for a grueling five hours with all our equipment, patiently keeping our distance until she stopped to rest. Watching her hunt was exhilarating. She drew me in as she lowered her head and prepared for the kill. When she pounced on her prey, I could not help but release my breath and enjoy the ensemble playing before me. Pollux, my guide, had to tell me to pick up my camera and take photos. I was captivated. You'll have to see the pictures when I print them -- she was majestic. A true huntress in the dense forest. For a moment, she brought me pure joy.
Snow wants me to bring him the pictures myself in New York, so I'm flying back in a week. I don't know if I should be excited because my prospects aren't exactly palatable. Meeting my venomous director Coriolanus Snow again isn’t my cup of tea. The scent of his rose perfume still revolts me. The air of Virginia, though, it is spring there, isn’t any relief either. It will be hard to breathe the smell of the meadows again. More memories will certainly be triggered once more.
A lot of things still shake me, Uncle. Being away only lessens the hurt some, but the weight is still immense.
How did my father do it? I could not find it in me to forgive now. Forgiveness seems such a dangerous thing. What does it mean to forgive? Is it to release this burden and pain that is upon me? Is it to free my mother and Peeta from their actions? Does it mean I have to trust and be open to them? It seems easier to hate and hold this bitterness than to move on.
Confusion consumes me every time I am alone. I’m so tired from this rabbit hole of emotions.
Only work and the thought of seeing Prim again give me temporary relief from the pain. When will this hurt go away?
See you, Prim, and Aunt Amelia in a week.
Katniss

I have decided to soldier on with this fic after resting and giving things some thought. I know the topic, and the prompt is not easy. I can't control how readers will react to the letters and how I have chosen this story to progress. For now, I will be okay with that and will let things run their course. I am still committed to this story and only hope for the best. If you're still here -- thank you for giving this story a chance. 🙏🧡

Denizens of the Marl,
My main focus was to introduce an early blooming species that I don’t know if I talked about ever. I usually miss my window to see this plant and for some reason I’ve never gotten close enough to photograph it properly, you can kinda see a gleam of light on the glandular hairs but not well enough to show structure.
Triantha glutinosa, blooms in early June in Ohio but can last till late June and in other states occurs in bogs in warm water conditions and blooms much later which is strange to me. I think this must be an adaptive phenotypical thing but you would expect it to be opposite and light blooming also seems to not be the culprit so I don’t know.  False Asphodel is another common name but I honestly prefer calling it sticky or glutinous false ashpodel. As a plant living in these nutrient poor super leached marl flats this plant is a carnivor, protease excretor glandular hair trap specifically, but strangely only on it’s flowering stem and not on it’s minute basal rosette. Opposite of most species that are carnivores most species try to keep traps as far from the flowers as possible which makes sense evolutionary. Glandular traps near an inflorescence seems strange for successful pollination. As it turns out this may be a seldomly pollinated species where most individuals in populations are ancient clones that have formed from rhizome spread overtime in these glacial refugium. The other thing that seems notable is many people studying these false ashpodels (Triantha spp.) run into the same morphology and phenology problems that I have, and have even come to contempt and discourse over specific populations and are evaluating them as part of a biological species complex. I agree on the T. occidentalis western split on all accounts but some of the minor disjunct probable splits seem more complex overall (Central Appalachian mountain populations (TN, VA, SC, GA)
Tumblr media
I feel like I can’t stress the importance of this limestone marl and the unique opportunity of getting this close to these plants without any special camera. Though I do wish I had one to display the features properly. Most of the time if you are traversing a fen you have to find and identify petrified marl shelfs or surface travertines, or you are walking on old and ancient tussock clumps from what is usually Carex stricta. Im walking on a displaced gravel shelf with petrified marl and wouldn’t dare to walk off of it and disturb the easily motile banks of loose marl or the suspended marl sediment floating like quick sand. The plants here are fragile and the habitat is equally fragile with many state listed species that cant take damage. Everywhere in the high exposure areas of marl flats are these Drosera rotundifolia and the smooth rounded/heartshaped leaves of grass of parnassas, which is in bloom as I type. Parnassia glauca is so beautiful with it’s unique floral venation and Ill post more pics once again when I get to it. The farther you get from the flats the less exposure and with it comes the sedge meadow with Arnoglossum plantagineum, also known as fen plantain leaved indian plantain. The last few shots are associated with the fully scabrid moderate sized var. ,not species, Silphium terebinthinaceum var. pinnatifidum, which we only see in fens in Ohio and the Ice scoured dwarf willow, Salix myricoides, in all of it’s new leaf glory. Still not looking blue with white pubescent undersides just yet.
Personal note:
Its been really weird doing this lagged posting because these are not matched to the time I was there. Right now, I feel like I should be posting about white bottle gentian, prairie gentian ,fringed gentian or ,andrews bottle gentian and here I am mid June posts. Heck it’s also Spiranthes spp. season and paw paw shaking season rn, most people are smelling sulfur shelves and foraging chicken of the woods(same thing). Trying to catch up and doing documentation and having a place to post personal thoughts on this stuff.

Species Information -- Under the cut is the wikipedia styled information about Flame's current species, Paleonem. It's incomplete, but still contains interesting information. The wikipedia article for the African Lion (Panthera Leo) was used as a base and as reference, as Paleonems are most similar to lions.
Paleonem
Pa-, drawn from "paleo," latin root for "ancient." -leo-, from Latin "leo," for "lion." -nem, drawn from Latin "draconem," meaning “huge serpent, dragon.”
pay-lee-o-nem
Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Carnivora Suborder: Feliformia Family: Felidae Subfamily: Pantherinae Genus: Panthera Species: P. Ignis
The Paleonem (Panthera Ignis) is large cat of the genus Panthera thought once to be extinct. It is native to remote areas in the tropics, though its wings allow it to travel far from its native lands. It has a broad chested, muscular body, a short, rounded head, and long, pointed ears, and a tuft at the end of the tail matching the color of the mane. It is sexually dimorphic, the males of the species having larger, further reaching manes than the females, and larger wings. Male Paleonems are also larger than the females. It is a social species, forming groups called _ _, consisting of generally equal males and females, including cubs. It is a serial monogamous species, though some individuals have been seen to opt for full monogamy and only mate with one partner throughout their lives. Paleonem has been observed to hunt alone and together for the _ _, preying mostly upon medium and large ungulates. The Paleonem is an apex and keystone predator, though the wounded and weak have been known to scavenge. Multiple attacks on humans by one lone, wingless member of the species has been documented in recent times. Aside from this outlier, the species is not known to actively hunt or interact with humans.
The Paleonem prefers forests, meadows, and jungles despite its large wings, but also inhabits savannahs, mountains, shrublands, deserts, and grasslands. Very few have been seen around manmade cities. It is generally a diurnal species, but can easily adapt to being nocturnal when necessary. During the Neolithic period, this species had a wider population range, but has since been reduced to small pockets wherever they can find sanctuary. It is listed as critically endangered, as an estimated 110 individuals were observed worldwide. It is unknown if the population is rising or declining, as the species has become secretive in the modern era.
Description
The Paleonem is a broad-chested, muscular, cat with a short, rounded head, long, pointed ears, reduced neck, and large wings. Its fur varies in a wide range of colors and patterns, from white, gray, and silver, to light buff, tawny, orange, and liver. It can be patternless, or bear spots, stripes, ticking, and rosettes. The colors of its underside are generally either white or a lighter tone of the base fur color. The only solid-colored Paleonems observed are either albino, leucistic, or melanistic. Piebaldism has been observed, though all these color mutations are extremely rare. Its wings are generally a dark color, matching the skin of the individual. Sometimes, the wings may have stripes, spots, or rosettes on them. Cubs are born with bold spots, white backs, and black rims around the white on their backs that all fade as they grow. These spots can morph into rosettes, ticking, stripes, or completely disappear as the cub reaches adulthood. Though, some of these spots on patternless and striped individuals may still be seen on the legs and underbelly.
Paleonem is one of two Panthera species that displays obvious sexual dimorphism, with the manes of the males of the species reaching further along the belly and tail of the individual, as well as fringe mane on the hind end and the elbows. The wings on males are also larger than females of the species, and often have bolder markings, where females of the species generally have no markings or very faint markings on the wings. The manes of individuals range just as widely as the fur, from white, gray, and silver, to buff, tawny, orange, liver, and black.
The tail of all Paleonems ends in a tuft of fur that matches that of the mane, though an exception to this rule is the infamous Wingless Paleonem. In this Paleonemess, the tail is seen to be the same color as the base fur with the underside highlights at the tip, with a strip of the stripe color going down the top of the tuft. In some Paleonems, the tuft of their tail conceals a "spur" or "spine," formed from the final, fused sections of the tail. Like in lions, the function of this tail spur is unknown. The tuft is absent at birth and develops around 7 1/2 months of age. It is readily identifiable by 1 1/2 years of age.
Of the extant felid species, some members of the Paleonem species are only rivaled in weight, length, and height at the shoulder by the Lion and Tiger. Its skull is very similar to that of a lion, though it is clear by the lower jaw and the robust molars and pre-molars on both upper and lower jaws that Paleonem is built to have a bone-crushing biteforce. This is the easiest and most definitive way to tell the difference between a Lion skull and a Paleonem skull.
The skeletal muscle weight of a Paleonem is 57.9% of its body weight.

MUSK THISTLE, NOVEMBER
I decided to take River for her morning walk around the lake this morning, and on the way around went by the donkey’s fields, who still terrify her, located by the blue star on the map below:
Tumblr media
I saw a lot of what looked like dead spiky strawberries growing from long stems. They looked very beautiful but severe. I already knew what they were, but I’m still in the habit of quickly checking the app and got the (90% trustworthy) confirmation that these were indeed musk thistles (Carduus nutans)! Below is the photo and video I took:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The one in the video is clearly not as dead as the brown one in the photo, and still has the bright pink flower that makes thistles easy to spot in between the brown growth of a British winter. Due to this species biennial nature, by this time of year, most of the plants are overwintering in the rosette stage, where they appear as green spiky fern-like plants on the ground, before they send up their flooring stems in mid-spring of their second year, like these ones. The mature plants will reach up to nine feet in height, their spiky stems branching out and flowering. The dark leaves of the rosettes and the stems are dark green and coarsely bipinnately lobed, with a smooth waxy surface.
Back home, to confirm my virtual-confirmation, I took out my Wild Flower Guide and began trying to identify it. Eventually I got there, with maybe disproportionate satisfaction, and found the page I was looking for. Looking at all the other thistles makes it easy to see how an app might get the wrong species sometimes, as there might only be one or two differences in appearance, such as the cabbage thistle with its yellow flower, or the wooly thistle with is deeply pinnately lobed leaves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite what I think of it, as being a beautiful plant, the musk thistle is actually an invasive species, introduced to the UK from Eurasia originally. It can spread rapidly and has even been declared a noxious weed in many States in the U.S.A, growing mostly in meadows, grasslands and pastures, preferring open, dry, sunny conditions (such as these donkey fields, when the sun wants to show itself).

is it true that mother goose and the fairy godmother were girlfriends when they were younger?
Thank you for your inquiry.
Onto the question, we’ve never exactly been sure of it. Of course there have been jokes and speculation, but they may very well have been together at some point, or perhaps just best friends as they say. Truthfully we don’t think they would say they had at one point been in a relationship, no matter the validity. The two of them have always been very secretive about certain things, no matter how much sense we think they make. Of course, neither of them were particularly shy about the relationships we knew of for the most part. Even the more, let us say, controversial romances on Mother Goose’s end, but maybe the intimacy of the relationship demanded secrecy in their eyes. We don’t think we could say for sure, though.
—Sincerely, The Fairy council.

The sun is rising later and later. I can’t start work until 5.45; however, the sunrises have been stunning lately.
Tumblr media
Patrick’s real birthday dinner over in Juan les Pins at La Plage des Isles.
Tumblr media
I was pruning the Wysteria by the pool when suddenly I was falling because the ladder collapsed under me. It turns out the metal bit at the top of the A frame just sheered apart, sending me to the ground. I landed on my hands thankfully. My right hand and my left shoulder hurt for a few days.
Wednesday I saw my doctor to arrange PREP; I asked about shingles vaccine and it is only offered from 65, I was given my home kit to test for colon cancer and I now know what I have to do when I’m sick, even for just one day, here in France. I must ring my doctor and he will write me an official sick note. Amazing ! After my visit I joined Denis at the beach for an hour of relaxation before dinner at theirs. We discovered his bicycle fits in my little Peugeot 108.
Tumblr media
Nice harvest to take to Andre and Denis’ for dinner on Wednesday and again on Thursday.

Finally I’m potting up my little Pelargonium collection into the terracotta pots acquired from Chelsea Physic Garden earlier this year.

Lavender pruning this week. I used the cuttings to mulch around the citrus trees.

Saturday I headed to Hyères to meet Meghan, Phil, Frankie and Xavier. It was another hot day. We met at the botanic and zoological garden just south of the old town. It was wonderful to see them after at least five years.

Hollow Clowder
Territory
These cats live within a mountain range that is covered in a dense forest. Those who don't know this territory would easily get lost in this place. Cats must have a good memory to be able to make their way around this area. The lower you get towards the mountain the denser and denser the forest becomes. At the base of the mountain is nothing but an incredibly dense forest.
There is no camp. Cats make seperate dens and spread messages by talking to each other.
Flower Meadow-A place where lovers go to impress each other. Herbalists also prance here often. When two cats become mates they often come together to pick flowers for their shared nest.
Giant Boulder-Big rock :D. If you sit on top, you are automatically better, hence apprentices swatting each other for the top perch.
Gem Cave-Where cats with questions go to seek out answers. Some say that their ancestors rest there, others say that malevolent spirits linger here, either way, it’s haunted af.
History
The Clowder was made up of unwanted house cats fleeing when a high-kill shelter was built in their old farming town. Lion, a Maine Coon with no sense of smell became the first leader. He lead the clowder through its founding until he retired and left his son, Cheetah, in charge. Almost all the founding cats have died, leaving one behind.
Extra facts
They know ghosts are real but do not believe in a heaven figure.
They all originate from barn cats or house cats.
While nothing is 100% set in stone, it looks like leadership will become a monarchy with Fame Ivy being Cheetah’s neice.
The founders’ collars were buried with them, except for Curly, who is still alive.
