If you keep the spine more or less parallel to the floor and tuck the knees in, you can replicte a breast stroke swimming kick.
In this video, the hips are elevated so its a pike with hip circumduction.
Atability for the upper body, strength for the abs and hip flexors and mobility for the adductors. A good workout for the cardiovascular and metabolic systems.

The spiral is dead. It’s a coil. (And I love love love spirals) Looking at spinal coupling images last night and Fryette’s Laws, and I just couldn’t find an image that I thought I was looking for, and then, I stumbled on the little background image with green arrows… “Oh who put this together?” None other than @thedavidweck so all credit to him on that image. I’ve been seeing something in movement and locomotion that hasn’t fully downloaded into words yet. The basics are spinal mechanics and Fryette’s laws. The importance of this coil and what it does for your spine. The evolution of the spine and the movements that are necessary and vital for it. When we side bend from neutral, there’s a rotation to the opposite side. When we side bend from flexed or extended state, rotation is same side. If there is a lack in one plane, all directions suffer. Why have we lost the coil? Why does lateral flexion initiate the coil so well? And what does the coil do on a deeper, intrinsic and energetic level? If love lights up DNA, what about movements? Psoas Stretch followed by Lunge w/ Rotation. This #yoga move is considered by many as one of the better dynamic stretches you can do. Work on getting low in the #lunge where your involved leg is at a right angle. Make sure you extend your extended leg towards the sky. Have a yoga instructor look at your form and also see yourself on video to make sure your in correct position. Merry Christmas from Helen and Steve and I’m sure Steve’s glutes and deep hip rotators will have a Happy New Year after this standing pigeon stretch on a docked and unlocked freeFORM Board to tweak the angle and intensity of the stretch and add some proprioceptively rich movement to an otherwise static exercise.
I actually know of people who have delayed a hip replacement but up to two years by keeping their hips at optimal mobility using the freeFORM Board.
Thanks for all of your amazing posts this year Helen and the team from @pilatesinsync and the clients who are such great sports for allowing their exercises to be shared.
