Zefanio x L.A.X - Rowanda
Dutch-Surinamese rapper Zefanio has teamed up with Nigerian singer/songwriter and recording artist L.A.X for new single ‘Rowanda’ – out now via 220 Records.
Inspired by the new wave of Afro and Amapiano, the single was originally recorded by Zefanio in his kitchen during the pandemic, who wanted to create an amapiano-inspired R&B sound, unlike anything around in The Netherlands. The track was picked up by 220 Records where it was pitched to L.A.X who instantly loved the track and jumped on it, and ‘Rowanda’ was born. Fusing Amapiano with R&B with a commercial twist, the result is a slick production that will showcase Zefanio’s transformative new sound.
With his recent ’No Bad Vibes' album release L.A.X. has already showed mad love to the Dutch music scene, with the album featuring a host of Dutch artists and producers like Ronnie Flex, Quessswho (220 Records) and Shyne (Cruise Control Studios). This latest collaboration with Zefanio further proves his interest in expanding his music beyond the African diaspora into different territories.
2023 has already been a transformative year for Zefanio. After a period of re-shaping and shifting his music into a more mature and carefully curated sound, Zefanio is finally ready to bring his new music to the people. Positioning himself as an R&B singer, Zefanio has sought inspiration from legends of the genre Usher, Chris Brown and Giveon, preparing a wealth of new music to be released throughout the year. Expect R&B with hints of afro and club sounds, together with some very interesting collabs set to roll out in the near future.Zefanio x L.A.X

my god, the state of UK politics rn. it's making me want to put my head through a wall.
So I guess I'm joining Green? My fucking spineless MP abstaining from a vote in fear of his job since we have a dictator for a party leader. How is voting for a ceasefire controversial???
And the fuckers are trying to go against the Supreme Court and ship people to Rowanda fucking illegally?? People who are not even from there.
I feel like I'm losing my mind here, what the actual fuck am I witnessing? How do they sleep at night? I always try to stay away from hatred, but I can feel it deep in my core right now. I cannot believe it. I am not at all surprised, I have known this ever since I started educating myself on this government after moving here almost 10 years ago, but it is still so fucking shocking how despicable and disgusting they are.

What if Elia married Baelor Hightower?
I imagine she would’ve lived and Baelor would’ve accepted having a son and daughter, considering his many siblings and nieces and nephews along with cousins. The pressure to resume marital relations in want of another child wouldn’t be critical, considering the Hightower family. Baelor is also is not obsessed with a prophecy and from his married to Rowanda (or something like that) even without them having kids (that haven’t been established in canon) he hasn’t annulled his marriage in order to remarry and get heirs. Elia would’ve had far better luck with Baelor, I imagine.
Boy should’ve drink some pepto bismol and not shatted on himself! Blast!

Chilled: Every time I'm killed first they spend years! Years at the UN delegation, trying to pass a resolution that doesn't fucking pass! It never does! No- no- I'm murdering people, we vote off people in six seconds, if you died first in my hands the game lasts five minutes tops. I'm fucking killed first, and they're sitting there like, "Well, should we send a peacekeeping unit? Does- does- does Rowanda need a peacekeeping unit?" YES, THEY NEED A PEACEKEEPING UNIT!

Photography Project:
Week 2
In an interview with Isaac Julien for Photo London, British photographer Don McCullin discussed his life and career as a photo journalist. McCullin was very adamant that he was not an artist, that even photography was “not an art form but a way of communicating”. Known for his black and white film photographs that range from classic landscapes to graphic war photos, he conveys an authenticity and realness with his images, that he suggests can be difficult to achieve with digital photography. Don even claimed that “America has changed and sanitised photography with colour” and passionately believes that this digital age has taken away the truth within photography, since everything can be manipulated. Although many people call him a ‘war photographer’, McCullin disregards this title and ultimately feels that there is a “conflict in photography”, that his experiences photographing in war zone counties were “about humanity”, not just taking a pretty picture.
Alfredo Jaar collected his and others images to create the Rowanda Project. Here he wanted to show that “images aren’t innocent, they present an ideological concept of the world”. With examples from LIFE, Times and NewsWeek magazines, Jaar demonstrated how the Western world’s media actively avoids to acknowledge or accurately represent world problems. Headlines that should have been shouting about Rowanda’s tragic genocide that took over a million innocent lives, were instead full of celebrities and mindless media. Even when Rowanda or Africa were mentioned, they were subjected to racist stereotypes, pictures of safari often gracing the covers. Jaar firmly believed that as artists we are all political and critical thinkers, so he used his talent of photography to try to make a difference, by spreading awareness. His small exhibition the ‘Sound of Silence’ is evidence of his efforts, with a box room containing an 8 minute long experience viewing only a few images, aiming to have viewers spend a longer amount of time actually absorbing the art and its message.

It is why it is possible for entire countries to let themselves be duped by their government and decieved into conspiracy theorism. Politicians actually actively using conspiracy theorism as a weapon to get political points like we see with antivax, qanon, what russians are doing saying en entire war is not a war. All of it based on people "beliefs" and what tinhats say is their right "to believe" over tinhats accepting and facing the facts. It is not the same as freedom of religious beliefs
Absolutely and it’s very dangerous when you consider the wider implications such as you have mentioned. Especially since conspiracy theories often go hand in hand with gaslighting.

Something small I love about Daredevil 1.09. When Father Lantom is telling Matt the story about Gahiji in Rowanda, they don't recreate the story. You don't see it being acted out on screen. I feel like that's all that's done now, especially in other Marvel properties. It might have been a budget thing, but keeping it on Matt and Father Lantom is so powerful. Especially with all the reactions Charlie gives in his acting. You can see how much Father Lantom's words affect him. How he is truly listening/hearing Father Lantom. I just really love it.
