[As the most speciose and successful terrestrial animal lineage, insects have all sorts of interesting life history strategies and evolutionary adaptations. The trick is, making them things that can be viable in play for a tabletop rpg. Parasitoid reproduction is very common, and gets applied to lots of creatures that aren't insects. The more arcane life cycles are cool, but difficult to make relevant to players. The behavior of slave making ants is not something I ever have seen before in an RPG. It does have some pop culture impact; the ants in the B-movie Empire of the Ants are slave-makers, but my version leans much more heavily into biological weirdness.]

Erguzam CR 4 N Magical Beast This creature appears to be a red ant the size of a wolf. Its mandibles are smooth and curved inward, and its front feet end in broad tarsi with hooks and spines. It has no sting, but instead a small nozzle at the end of its abdomen.

An erguzam is a giant ant that lives as a parasite on farms and ranches. Rather than simply raiding humanoid settlements as some other species of giant ants do, erguzams instead take over the settlements completely, using chemicals to enslave its denizens and force them to work for the ants’ benefit. An erguzam colony begins when a queen, accompanied by a few soldiers from its previous colony, finding a farmstead and enslaving its residents. While the queen lays eggs, the soldiers fan outward in order to find more workers to serve the colony. An erguzam exerts its control over its slaves through trophallaxis—it feeds its victims a slurry of drugs that make its mind docile and pliable, and make its senses sharp enough to receive chemical cues from their exploiters. People so enslaved work on the farm growing crops and raising livestock, fixing buildings and refitting them to better suit their masters’ anatomy, raising the young of the erguzams and helping to raise any slaves too young to take care of themselves. They may even trade and engage with other people, all the while acting as cover for their monstrous masters. An erguzam’s chemicals cause humanoids to age rapidly, forcing erguzams to raid regularly in order to replenish their workforce, or to exploit longer lived species like dwarves and elves.

Erguzam soldiers do not take slaves on their raids with them, relying on their own power to fight. They preferentially try to capture smaller people, including children, as well as less heavily armored targets. Foes wearing heavy armor are more likely to simply be slain, cut in two with their scything mandibles or sprayed with the acid they can fire from their abdomens. Already enslaved victims submit to being fed their mind-altering drugs willingly, but when capturing slaves anew, the erguzams grab them with their front legs and pull their mouths open in order to give them their first feeding. If a creature is unaffected, it is butchered before the erguzam moves onto the next target. If it succumbs, the erguzam retreats from battle with its new slave.

Erguzam Queens Unlike the queens of other giant ants, erguzam queens retain their full mobility throughout their lives. An erguzam queen is an erguzam with the giant and advanced simple templates, and it can use its enslave ability at will. An erguzam queen’s acid spray deals 5d8 points of damage, and all erguzams within 30 feet of an erguzam queen gain a +2 morale bonus on all attack and damage rolls. An erguzam queen is a CR 6 monster.

Special Abilities Acid Spray (Ex) As a standard action, an erguzam can spray acid in a 15 foot cone dealing 5d6 points of acid damage (Reflex DC 14 half). An erguzam can use this ability three times per day, but must wait 1d4 rounds between uses. The save DC is Constitution based. Enslave (Su) As a move action, an erguzam can vomit a chemical slurry into the mouth of a pinned, helpless or willing humanoid. The humanoid must succeed a DC 16 Will save or be charmed by the erguzam and by all erguzams of the same hive for 1 week. Unlike a charm person spell, humanoids do not gain a bonus to their saving throw if it is threatened or attacked by an erguzam. A creature that succeeds its saving throw is immune to the enslave ability of that erguzam for 24 hours. Humanoids so affected are friendly to these erguzams and are compelled to work on their behalf. An erguzam can give these charmed humanoids simple instructions from a range of 60 feet with chemical signals as a free action, and can sense whether a creature is affected or not by the enslave ability of any erguzam from its hive. A humanoid affected by an erguzam’s enslave ability ages one year per week it is affected. An erguzam can use this ability three times before it has to return to its queen to replenish its supply. This is a mind-influencing poison effect. The save DC is Constitution based with a +2 racial bonus. Verminous (Ex) An erguzam is treated as both a magical beast and vermin for the purposes of spells and effects.

Lilia: Kami-Oshi love his design/backstory so much (I really like androgynous characters and I mean come on LOOK AT HIM like it was coming across someone selling the cafe cards of Lilia's playful land look that dragged me back into this game, and I LOVE characters who present themselves as very happy/carefree but between the lines very much hide low-self worth/issues. They're very interesting to analyze)

Malleus: Very endearing he's just a nerd who wants friends (Malleus is very cute as a character he's a sweetheart)

Idia: Just a mood/his story is really good (See the ENTIRE book 6 and I just love how he's just this awkward gamer who really hates socializing)

Favorite Dorms:

Diasomnia: Sleeping Beauty is my fav Disney movie visually I love the vibes here. The spinning wheel, thorns, and medieval theme is really good

Ignihyde: Most of my OCs deal with themes of Death so you bet I vibe with the literal dorm of the underworld (As the kid of a funeral director I grew up visiting and wandering around a funeral home so yeah lol)

Cult of the Lamb: Got me back into making fan-ocs (my preschool-early high school self was HUGE into making self-inserts but switched to purely original OCs for years till this game got me by a chokehold last summer I literally have a side-blog for an AU lol)

silly fun facts about mafukasa rpg horror because this is my rambling blog, so i shall ramble

they’re based off an au i had and never properly wrote out. the bare minimum summary is mafu & kasa have been trapped in a bugged out rpg maker horror game for like years and have been waiting for someone to download the game so they can leave yayy

it’s not inspired by any game in particular, just general common themes in rpg maker horrors

mafu & kasa don’t have names in the game, instead they’re referred to as haunted jester & possessed puppet. they try to communicate through hexadecimal code to bypass any censor though ^-^

their inventory Is relevant to the au. however, the star tsukasa isn’t, it’s just there because i needed something lmao, what would be there would be his jester hat

mafu’s individual line in her textbox is just her brand new world quote

there’s hexadecimal code hidden in the headers, it’s the same as the one in the middle top banner

i edited tsukasa’s eye shiny out out of all the cards. because i’m evil

did i ever finish the au? no.

there’s two stamps in each of the individual banners that blend into the background

mafu has string and scissors in her inventory, cause puppet :]

kasa just has a bunch of cards, dice, and dominos, he likes silly games okay

i made the template for the top banners myself, and they’re kinda wonky but i think they turned out kinda neat

the frame/border used around the whole thing is an Actual plain frame that i just pixelated a lot lolol

hey i love all of the work you've done on the cj fan game! it looks great, your art is really good! just curious, what size are the sprites? bc they seem like they don't have a lot of pixels but they're also pretty detailed (positive)

the sprites are an average 66 pixels and 24 wide. I'm just using the RPG maker "big monster" spite sheets as a template for sizing and drawing over them

Hi arcade! I was creating a rpg maker mv game and I'm struggling a lot with designing tilesets, how did u made them 😭😭 you saw some yt tutorial or sum?

The tricky thing about RPGMaker tilesets is that they all have to fit into specific templates/formats depending on where they're used.

You mind find it helpful to take one of the basic tilesets that comes with the engine and draw over it!

Not trace over it--but take the existing tileset and create a 32 x 32 or 48 x 48 template over it (depending on the tile size of the engine you're using)

Similarly, looking up RPGMaker tileset templates is also pretty helpful!

I do not give permission for my designs to be used as inspiration for any kind of RP resource available on Tumblr or otherwise. Anyone doing this doesn't have my permission. If anyone knows of any coders, PSD makers, anyone on tumblr using my friends as inspiration, please let me know so I can contact them.

That being said, I will have to decline because my docs are paid docs, and I don’t want some kind of free version of them on Tumblr even if they aren’t on the same platform.

I also want to add on that I myself take inspiration from Pinterest & that’s something anybody else can also do. I just ask that nobody take inspo from my own work because they are ( 1 ) paid docs and ( 2 ) pulling from my work directly for the rp community isn’t fair to me as a paid creator who also operates in the rp community.

designed a bunch of rpg maker sprites in 64 by 64 pixels cuz i heard u could do any size and then i couldnt find any template gridsheet of 64 by 64 squares side by side and once i managed to size one myself by doing math (which took me longer to experimentally figure out than it probably shouldve) i got rly in my head abt how well it would work n all that and how im overcomplicating a simple project and i decided to size down each sprite to the default 48x48 and now im TOTALLY REGRETTING THAT DJDHDJD i gotta relax man this is like how i was with cooking early on into being a hobbyist abt it lmao any mistake is like a bullet when ur new to a hobby,,, all i lost was slight detail the sprites still look cute and u can make out more or less the exact same images as they were prior but like the extra definition on accent lines that got lost is like too much loss for my soul to bare or something ksdhdhdk,,, anyways now that its resized hopefully i can finally implement the sprites tomorrow :3
