saw this doll on the Lottie doll website 🥺
on April 28th I went to the hospital because within the span of a week I wasn't able to take care of myself or walk anymore.
when I got a CT scan the doctor told me it seemed like I had a brain disease. I was really scared, I didn't know what that meant, I didn't know if it was terminal or if it was cancer.
on April 30th I was out into the neurology ward and after getting an MRI, spinal tap, and x-ray the doctors there determined I have multiple sclerosis.
luckily it hadn't spread to my spinal cord yet so they put me on a strong dose of methylprednisolone for a few days, I started feeling much better and I was able to walk, eat, sleep on my back, and brush my teeth again!
it was very scary to know that if I had developed multiple sclerosis a decade or two earlier, there would be a good chance I wouldn't have survived.
but I was discharged from the hospital on May 6th and have been improving since! I already have started my treatment with natalizumab, I'm able to go back to work, able to walk to places by myself, able to shower and eat by myself, able to do all sorts of things again!
it has been a very difficult year for me, I lost all of my friends, it's overwhelming dealing with disability applications, dealing with ableism, dealing with having to call in sick often to work, feeling tired all the time, the brain fog and bad memory, but I am alive! >0<
but I think I would take that over not being able to eat or shower :')) it is awful when your tongue is numb and you can't taste anything... or when you have vertigo and double vision 24/7... or when you can't walk in a straight like and you keep falling over... 😵💫
I was able to celebrate my 25th birthday, go to the concerts with my dad that i had planned at the beginning of the year, I was able to go to the anime and comic book conventions with my brother, and I was able to eat my favourite foods again! >0<
I like this Lottie doll because having multiple sclerosis and going through all of these things by myself takes a lot of resilience. there is no cure for multiple sclerosis, and I have made peace with that. there's no guarantee that I will ever return to how I was before I went to the hospital.
but I am strong and brave, just like this Lottie doll! >0< she even looks like me ehehe

Tired
I have multiple sclerosis.
I'm tired of blogs that either act like that means nothing, or think everything is the worst.
Let's be real, it is a degenerative disease. It gets worse. There is no cure. Some people have it better than others.
It's been 8 years (almost 9) since I stumbled into the hospital, thinking maybe I had the flu and a very bad ear infection.
Next thing I knew, I was admitted to the head trauma unit and learning to walk again. But, that's a story for another day.
They told me then I wouldn't be walking in a year. They were wrong.
But, I'm finally starting to notice this impacting my every day life, and I'm here to talk about it.
Hi, I'm Kate. I'm not drunk, I just have MS.

In 1972, Drs. Evelyn and John Billings and colleagues published a seminal article demonstrating that 22 women, adequately trained, could detect the approach of ovulation in the fertile window of their menstrual cycle...
Subsequently, Dr. Thomas Hilgers and colleagues introduced a standardized system for women to record these symptoms…This developed further the concept of fertility biomarkers, which provide information about normal ovarian cycle conditions or suggest the presence of pathological conditions…Many other clinicians and researchers have also expanded our knowledge of the medical applications of fertility biomarkers.
These findings established the biological foundations of a tool of fertility awareness tracking that has facilitated the development of restorative reproductive medicine: an approach that can be applied to identify and treat the underlying causes of infertility/subfertility…
However, the emergence of in vitro fertilization (IVF) in 1978, with the first successful birth of a baby girl, introduced a solution that operates independently of the causes of infertility. As a result, the RRM approach, which focuses on uncovering the underlying biological causes of infertility, has lost priority in clinical practice.

update
hiii sorry i haven't posted in a while. been busy with work, medical appointments, dealing with my disabilities, etc.
i still have my dollies and still love them very much!! I just haven't worked on them... all i can do most days is a few chores or errands then i sleep the rest of the day.
so there is not much progress to document. plus i haven't been collecting new dollies either.
i'm back living to paycheck to paycheck because i have run out of my employment insurance sickness benefits. currently trying to get my case file opened again at employment and income assistance but it is taking time (my printer ran out of paper and ink so i have to go to the bank in person to print my bank statements, they can't mail it to me because there is a postal strike in my province.)
plus i feel like i have collected all the pretty dollies there are! 😆 i haven't seen any that i want lolol
but speaking of new dollies...

NEW DOLLY!!!! 🗣️🗣️
ok so this was actually a surprise because i was expecting her to come in January?? i pre-ordered her and they said she would be delivered in January... 🧍🏻
so i had to do a double take when i saw the Barbie box in my package LMAOOO i was like "ermmm i didn't order any new dolls ☝🏻😳 what the fweak?"
but omg she's so beautiful!! she does look a lil similar to Cheyenne but their faces are still different

that is so amazing!!! when i was a kid, all my barbie dolls had the same faces LOL there was no difference between them. only Chelsea had a different face. so maybe this new dolly and Cheyenne are sisters? cousins? 😄
i don't have a name for her yet, been too busy to think of one.
but those are all the updates i have at the moment. no progress with any of my DIY projects, no new dolls to show aside from this one.
hopefully, someday i will have energy to work on my dolls. i want to finish Wednesday, Natalka and Alice.

I have relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis. I filmed this to spread awareness about MS. It hits me hard a few times a week, but most of the time I'm perfectly ok. This was on October 25th (two weeks ago). It's not normal for me to talk like this when I'm having a flare up, but severe movement issues, including speech issues and difficulty breathing are normal for me.

I'm not a fan of the fact that Dune Prophecy is based on Brian Herbert's books (which I consider to be noncanonical) and I am generally emphatically against prequels and I do notttt like this expanded universe business - that is to say, I have every reason to be disinterested in this show, perhaps most of all, as I have elaborated at length upon, that the Bene Gesserit story I enjoy is God Emperor into Chapterhouse - but despite that one of the things that made me happiest this year was Dune Part Two. Even through its unjustified book divergences and various other issues, I still loved it enormously and incongruently, and so if I can put that aside, I might still find something to enjoy in Dune Prophecy.
The Bene Gesserit are hard to get right because the basis on which the BG operate does not fit easily into stereotype. They're not girlbosses. They're not really femme fatales. Up until Heretics, they're never even "sexy"; I wonder how much the influence of Eileen and her passing played into this, because she had such an influence on the books (I mean, even in the sense that he felt more comfortable writing sexual material by himself). They're a political force, but not a neutral political force - this is the exchange of women within a feudal system, with the careful control of reproduction, the body as a politic, writ large instead as a political body. It works specifically for the setting, because without the fabulistic conceit (and, yes, many of the psychoanalytic and biologically essentialist ends; I can't expand here but I think this idea is evolved in some interesting ways though, centrally explored through Paul), it just wouldn't work the same way. I think that, for Frank Herbert's foibles (the aforementioned, Alia's arc in Children of Dune), he had very specific thematic and narrative ends which bolster the BG and consequently the female cast generally that they are given serious aims and roles in the story. That the women of the BG order engage in the exchange of women - Jessica and Leto's relationship is much darker in the books, but also, weirdly, more trusting - works as a potent narrative device because their morals and their beliefs and behaviours are so far and alien, measured in centuries, their lifespans fit as a collective, yet it's also an unnervingly fitting and dangerous critique of women acting under patriarchy and facilitating it. Except there is a sort of beauty to that ambition, a sort of righteousness, and I suppose that's one of the things I love so much, and so specifically, about Dune, is that you can sit with all of that, and you're allowed to appreciate it. At most you can tell Frank gets really fired up about bureaucrats.
But it's through that feudalistic exchange of women and the specific talents and practices and inherited body of knowledge in the BG, that is, the total mastery of the body as an internal and external force including the very soul made material in transference, which translates to that political and ethical responsibility they hold and enforce, not in the sense that women stay a man's rough hand - paltry and boring - but as actual participants and lessoners in society. For better or worse. It's interesting because the shift in Odrade's arc in Chapterhouse is not to reject that force, but to reject obedience (which is part of their relationship to the Tyrant), and obedience to an overwhelming maw of reactionary fear. "We are to punish them." It's the moment that's worth reading all three books for, to me. He tests them against the Honoured Matres and the Bene Tleilax alike: the Bene Tleilax do what they do with no moral aim, up until a very particular change in Heretics, but that twist only really makes them a further foil to the BG. The axlotl "tanks" (that's not the twist I'm referring to) are a literalisation of what the BG do, made extreme. So how different are they? I think that is not just a rhetorical question because of the literal technology involved.
What I also really like about the BG is that the specific thematic drive is not "lulz women control men with sex tee hee" - though this is a thing with the Honoured Matres, in contrast to the BG - but instead that libidinal forces organise life and society. It might sound like a fancy way of saying it, but what I really mean is that sex, sexual attraction, and sexual desire - indeed, lack thereof - motivate all sorts of behaviours and ambitions, and political desires, and culture and cultural values, and the identification of this fact and manipulation therein is a type of power they hold. The reason it is dangerous that Jessica loves Leto I is that she has given over power. She is not supposed to do this. (I think this is why Herbert retcons Paul being conceived out of love, not personal ambition to rear a kwisatz haderach herself, and having written this I think I feel somewhat better about the change; maybe these are confluent ideas in Dune).
The nuance of the BG is directly tied to the nuance of the Dune setting. The nuance of the Dune setting is what makes it Dune*: this is why I reject treating it as a straightforward didactic text, but the very common trend now is trying to outsmart a story, and fingerwag at people who seemingly don't get it. The BG are hard to get "right" in a desire to write a feminist story functioning as a moral invective - which fits women as political objects as opposed to sex objects.
I wish I could go see Dune Part Two again - it was a wonderful day out, honestly - and I was thinking that yesterday then read good things about Dune Prophecy, but I don't know what those good things constitute. So maybe I have to join in on Dune Prophecy.
*The unapologetic alienness and total commitment to what it is makes it Dune as well, and perhaps that's why Dune is hard to adapt.
#duneposting#is this an accidental BG screed lol#I don't read fandom meta for dune so I have no idea where this sits in the consensus which is amazing and awesome#and makes me feel so happy#for once in my life I am not cognisant of the fact I'm a polemic I'm a contrarian and I ruin everything#except for one person whose post I read complaining dune was very misogynist because misogynistic things happen which I think#happens to be the point as they say - whether that is interrogated enough for you I don't know#the fact that this came from an a/soiaf made me cry with hilarity#actually I've seen this twice from a/soiaf fans#and it's not like g/rrm doesn't have some of the feminism much more explicitly on his mind!

In 2024, senators introduced the Reproductive Empowerment and Support through Optimal Restoration, or RESTORE, Act, which was supported by the USCCB. Among other things, the bill aimed to use existing funding opportunities in Title X and the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Population Affairs, or OPA, to promote medical training in RRM [Restorative Reproductive Medicine]. OPA administers Title X, a federal grant program enacted in 1970 to provide comprehensive family planning and related preventive health services, particularly to low-income and underserved populations. An advocacy group called RESOLVE: the National Infertility Association, which is funded in part by IVF clinics, opposed the bill because it promoted “non-scientific treatment methods, health education, and research.” The RESTORE Act has not been reintroduced this session.
-Catholics decry IVF order, but a global strategy to oppose IVF remains elusive
#i try to keep this blog secular#but a big supporter of RRM is the church so sometimes it be like that lol#but anyway this particular tidbit angers me#IVF is predatory and misogynistic send tweet#women's health

Damn, zoned out again...
[They freeze upon seeing the newest member.]
...Oh. Clover, hi. I'm Black Heart. Been around a while. Unfortunately...
Um... Listen, I'm gonna just cut to the chase here - you don't want to be involved with anything going on here if you value your life. Getting mixed up in this... It's guaranteed to end in your death.
But... I suppose it's too late for that now, huh? You're already here...
You seem to be more aware of the nature of him than a lot of us were going into this. And if what you said is true, then it seems we all missed a lot of action... Very concerning.
If you want to continue down the path of the others, I won't stop you... But, if you want to keep talking with me about the potential for another ending where everyone is better off, including him, just let me know...
And hey, don't tell anyone I've said these things to you. I have everyone's best interest at heart, but it won't seem like that to the rest of the server members if they found out. I'm trusting you, alright?
