i'm dying over that reveal. truly. truly. because on paper, the concept that ruby's mother was just an ordinary person and what made her so special was this belief everyone had feeding into her own mythology, creating something larger than life, is actually pretty cool. and, yeah, from wild blue yonder we know the doctor absolutely handed the power of suggestion over to an unknown entity that made it something tangible.. so it works.

but like. that 15 year old girl decided to drop her baby off at a church in the middle of the night in the most ostentatious, medieval looking cloak and then proceed to point mencingly at the road sign on the off chance the security camera would pick her up and that would somehow give someone the idea to name her daughter after said road sign??

i'm just saying... if that's the way you handle giving your baby up for adoption then there is absolutely nothing ordinary about you

the reveal about ruby’s mother actually makes perfect sense when you think about it. why else would someone name their baby by pointing at a random sign in the middle of the night and dress in wizard robes while leaving said baby behind on a doorstep in a church if they weren’t a teenager whacked out of their mind on pain medications

Can I hear a huuuge shoutout to miss Louise Miller for getting out of her hsopital bed, finding a dramatic cape with a hood on the neonatal ward and walking, her thighs still bleeding as her placenta is falling out, to a church because she needs to keep her baby away from her stepdad? Icon.

i love the throw away line of ruby mentioning she already told her bio mum about the doctor. like imagine reuniting with the daughter you gave away as a child and she beautiful and smart and wonderful and she has an incredible family and though she's hurt she understands why you gave her up for a better a life and wants to know you and they're all so kind and they tell you about her chipping her tooth running up the stairs when she was 4 and at age 8 she wanted to be an actress and when she was 16 she got lost during a trip to paris and had to get home without speaking any french yet now she's 20 and she's running around... space. and time. with an alien. in a box. no yep we believe her we've seen the box move. yes he's a very nice alien don't worry about.

1. The day the Tenth Doctor met Donna Noble for the first time was Ruby Sunday's third birthday

2. Ruby was abandoned at a church of the same name as the one where Donna got married: St. Mary's Church

3. Both Rose Noble's and Ruby Sunday's mums were, at some point, the most important woman in the whole of creation, while also being the most ordinary people you could imagine

4. As pointed out by the Fifteenth Doctor, "rose" and "ruby" are both shades of red

5. Martha, Bill and Ruby have all expressed concerns about venturing in the past, asking about the consequences of stepping on a butterfly

6. In 14x06 "Rogue", when Fifteen thinks the Chuldur have killed Ruby, he asks Rogue about their lifespan. Rogue says 600 years, and Fifteen answers "Good, it's a long time to suffer". This parallels 3x09 "The Family of Blood", when Ten gives the Family a fate worse than death by trapping them and making sure they live forever. The terrifying thing with Fifteen, though, is that contrary to Ten, he found a balance between being happy and whimsical and fun, and then openly displaying satisfaction at the prospect of making certain people suffer

7. In the Christmas special "The Church on Ruby Road", when Ruby shows Fifteen all the pictures of the kids her mum fostered over the years, Fifteen tells her she's got the biggest family in the world. This is almost word-for-word what Sarah-Jane had told Ten in 4x13 "Journey's End"

I’m gonna be so honest when Ruby said she got a new mom I was literally like “oh, Carla got a gf good for her!” I completely forgot about Ruby’s bio mom. as if that wasn’t the main plot line of last season.

People are now saying, "RTD handled the mystery of Ruby's mother so poorly that I no longer care to be intrigued by who Mrs. Flood is." It seems people are more interested in knowing the answer than simply enjoying the intrigue they feel in the moment. If you are curious and want to know the resolution of the mystery, you need to understand this: your expectations may become unreasonably high in the process and you may feel that your headcanons are better than what you're told and shown. Don’t rely on the answer to the question; enjoy the feeling of intrigue. No ending of a story, no revelation of a mystery should ruin your experience. It's only a part of the story however crucial it may seem to you. Learn to separate these things and you won’t face disappointment. I wasn't disappointed. Yes, I didn't feel catharsis but no one guaranteed it to me. It's sad that there's no catharsis but on the other hand, I haven't felt catharsis in a long time. Therefore, I am very glad to see 73 yards and dot and bubble as episodes that have left an impression on me. It means I didn't watch this season for nothing.
