ok, for starters, i screenshot your question because you didn't censor the b word, PLEASEEE y'all don't write the full name in my inbox, i beg you.
also, when i said this fandom exhausts me, it's kinda because of that? i don't mean to be rude to you but i've seen varchies being so negative and i'm like how?! h o w?
1) this is riverdale. this show is fast paced, there's no slowburn in these areas. archie and veronica kissed in the pilot. archie and veronica broke up in 2.08 and got back together in 2.09. archie and veronica met again in 5.04 and had four episodes of basically constant buildup until they kissed. this season is a shorter one, we have two episodes for the midseason finale and another 9 after the hiatus. we have a fuck ton of plot and backstory to explore. veronica is archie's nemesis daughter. she has a crazy ex-husband who's said to be a "thorn in everyone's side". what gives? why does it make you think that there's no more story to be told for them?
2) ultimately, archie and veronica have spent 7 years apart. they have to get to know each other again. but do you really think things have changed for them so much that they will realize they don't feel the same as they did before? veronica has been married, and the minute she dropped that man, she went after archie. archie had a chance to be with whoever he wanted and he wants veronica. it's... how is it that you guys don't trust how inevitable their love and connection is?
3) why, in the name of god, would they use a couple with literal four and a half seasons of development and constant story as a plot device for b*rchie who had their fifteen minutes of fame and, ultimately, decided that they'd be better of as friends? do you believe in the b*rchie epic slowburn love narrative?
4) this isn't about their traumas or anything. archie and betty can heal all they want - they're still incompatible with each other. why? because after a decade since the pilot, betty still sees archie as the all american boy. she thinks he hasn't changed. she thinks he's the light in the window while archie himself is struggling with a shitload of trauma. he's not light, he's not pure. she wasn't perfect. but they still see each other as such and that's because they, ultimately, don't know each other. the window exists to prove a point that they're paralleling characters, they're not supposed to mid in the middle, they'll always see each other as their innocent selves when they were eight. they don't open up with each other. he helped her escape from her problems and she helped him fill a void.
5) please, let's try to trust archie's feelings again. i know after 4.18 it's hard, but it's been seven years in the show, and since the very moment that episode ended, all they've been trying to do is show us how much archie loves veronica. he said he was devastated when he found out she was married! he said he just wants her to be happy! she said he's the thing that can help her with that! please, we need to trust our ship and how much they've been given this season, otherwise this is pointless.
6) can we enjoy that archie picked veronica once again and just watch the show without going batshit crazy over the b*rchie "threat"? please. and stop listening to b*rchies, they’ve never been right a day in their lives!

I guess this is a barchie photoset. something about this convo just gets me...the lighting on betty and then the way they’re so relaxed and playful around each other. archie’s face is so open and hopeful it breaks my heart a bit

TOXIC!!!!!!! the thematic relevance. the energy. the goofy ass splitscreena
daddy lessons. funny as hell & also im insane

jailhouse rock!!!! infectious energy im gonna go listen to it right now!! fuck i miss the jail arc
out tonight. line delivery on ~i know some place sick~ is so rhythmic and fun
the world according to chris. mid but good characterization
superboy and the invisible girl. means nothing to me and also varchie lasting like 2 episodes in season five was literally worthless
what the fuck was that song she sang in the rivervale ep where reggie sold her soul? i literally cannot remember but it was such a weird choice tonally

I think people are really moving on from Rvd, especially tired shippers. I know once I learned they were going in the Barchie direction I took a huge step back and just watched clips on here if it was something I might like. This season has been miserable. The characters are miserable. Fans are miserable. The writers, the baiting, barely any interaction between a ship that was the driving force behind the mystery in the show. No heart at all. Now we know our favorite couples are going to be kept a part even longer. The writers seem into their new pairings and seem aware fans want the old ones back, but don't care because they got their season 6. I know it's likely an au, but a lot of people aren't going to watch until they know their ships are back together. I'm not watching the last 2 episodes of this season or the beginning of next if Barchie and Jabitha are the direction they are going. Many others feel the same.
I mean, I have literally said "I need a new show" in the past few days.
I don't think it's too much to assume when you look at the ratings that Riverdale has never done worse for viewers, for exactly the reasons you mentioned. They've torn the beating heart of the show out, and more than that, by taking away Bughead, even if we were to completely discount that romantic relationship, they've fundamentally removed anything that moves the plot forward. Riverdale used to rip through plotlines like Jack the Bear (I don't know who that is, my dad uses that expression a lot...) but this season we've barely seen any motion.
We should never have a show that you can miss five episodes of in its second half and fundamentally miss absolutely nothing important plot-wise. It's shippers, its casual viewers, it's basically everyone. The show is dying, hurting for viewers, and in no way seeming to improve.

rvd is doing a 5 episode spectacular to start s6 right? are those 5 gonna be unique in some way to a typical ep of rvd? if so, what are your thoughts and/or theories as to what they might do?
Yeah, the plan is a "five episode event" to lead off Season 6, followed by the rest of the episodes airing next year. I'd love to see Afterlife with Archie (i.e., zombie mashup featuring Riverdale, Sabrina and Katy Keene characters), though I don't think that's happening. But one that I think could happen is Life With Archie, where we see two very different futures of what could happen in Riverdale. In the comic, you see what happens when Archie marries Betty, and where he marries Veronica. I don't think those are the only two choices they could go for, but a Sliding Doors style mini-event could be great. Plus, multiverses are all the rage right now, so why not?

RVD S.1 E.1
Every kind of spoiler warning.
I am rewatching RVD from S1 Ep 1 after going through the entire series in one long binge because I feel like I must’ve hallucinated some of the stuff I remember happening and I really liked Season 5, where everyone’s life has gone kind of wrong, and I want to see them as Sophomores again.
- Is Riverdale  actually a small town?  There’s a forest with a big river, but this small town is big enough to have a ‘wrong side’ of the tracks, and there’s some place in ‘town’ that has dark alleyways in which crimes happen, and a sort of inner city space (like, where MadDog lives and where Jughead later raids with his gang).  And later in this episode, the halls of Riverdale High look extremely crowded.
- Alice Cooper wishing that a dead 16 year old boy (who impregnated her daughter) would burn in hell as the town is watching the police trawl the river for his corpse is really quite vicious.
- Betty is in a bra when Kevin is hanging out with her in her bedroom. Does this mean Kevin has seen Betty naked?  Is this normal in best gay friendships for these Gen Z people? Was it ever? He also tells Betty to take “The Ginger Bull by the horns tonight!” which gets funnier each time I think about it.
- There’s an astonishingly beautiful young extra sitting behind Archie when he and his rapist teacher are exchanging infatuated looks at the assembly.  Show business is so weird and unfair.
Veronica is popping out to me in this reviewing of the entire series (I’ve gotten to S. 5 Ep 10 and am going back to the beginning).
- I love Veronica’s introduction. Now that I know how Veronica will behave over the course of the next five seasons, I love her in this fresh-from-New York state, with the pearls.  I also love how she wears that cape to go pick up burgers, reminds me a bit of Lynn Bracken’s introduction in L.A Confidential, at the liquor shop.
- Veronica gets a slo-mo entry, justified in context, when she first enters Pop’s!  I had started to think only Cheryl got these. And Cheryl’s slo-mo glamour shots are just in her head usually.
- Why are black haired people the morally ambiguous ones in this world?  Veronica, the Lodges, Jughead, all the black haired and dark-brunette Serpents, Reggie v. 1 and v.2 ...
- Veronica talks only in references and I feel like Jughead would be the only one to understand them (”I am Breakfast at Tiffany’s but this place is strictly In Cold Blood”).  Jughead and Veronica are superficial and pretentious in the same way and I love them both for it.  Oh, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the book? Veronica hasn’t read it - the reference she’s making is to the Audrey Hepburn movie, which is the highly sanitized version of that book.  So what she means is, I am Peak Audrey Hepburn and this town like the true crime book.  Archie has no idea what she’s just said, and Betty knows it, and he laughs anyway.
- I was the new girl in school every 2 years K-12 and I am so in love with Veronica’s determination to make something better happen in this new school. I love the puppy way she latches on to Betty.
Jughead
- S1 Ep 1 is really very much Archie’s show.  I’m shocked at how little screentime Jughead actually gets.  He gets to be such a huge presence in the later episodes  and seasons, and becomes a stealth-protagonist who gets his own unacknowledged spinoff inside the show. They will keep sending Jughead to places where Archie can’t go and is unknown, because when Archie is present Jughead can’t be the protagonist.  But this stealing of ground from Archie must’ve been an organic development as the show kept looking for more material to expand on as the seasons went on, because this is not the set up in this initial episode.
- Jughead totally acts like a sour ex boyfriend in his first on-screen conversation with Archie, including being supremely irritated that Archie is not looking for him when they end up meeting in the diner. Plus Archie is pretty brutal when he calls Betty his ‘best friend’ when it’s clear that Archie is Jughead’s ‘only friend.’  And Jughead is so used to this too.
- I’d gotten to thinking Jughead was feline-faced but he’s not. He’s more rodent-faced.  And compared to Archie’’s clean cut sharp-jawline face, much more feminine.
- On rewatch I thought Jughead was too smirky and vibrated with ‘unsettled’ energy that clashed badly with Archie’s more naturalistic acting.

I think you taste on tropes>>>>> most of them were my favorite but I really thought that fake dating would be on the top i love that too but rvd kinda ruined it for me. fake dating when you’re already in a relationship... like wtf is that i know it was to make it more believable that jughead was dead but it was so stupid. sorry jughead my love but that was the dumbest idea you’ve ever had .
Fake dating IS a great trope!! I can’t believe I missed that one, thank you for reminding me lol. (There are just so many tropes that I love.)
Don’t let Riverdale ruin it for you, bb! The reason fake dating works is either because: (a) it is used in a slow burn situation where two people have been denying feelings for each other for a long time and the fake dating brings those feelings to the surface; or (b) it goes on long enough that “fake” feelings become real feelings aka To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before which is honestly maybe my favourite movie Netflix has ever made.
Betty and Archie did not interact for about 2.5 seasons, fake dated for two minutes, and then caught feelings. That’s not how you do that trope! But Riverdale burns through all its plotlines in about five minutes so, also, of course that’s how it did that trope.
I actually didn’t mind it too much? I mean, YES, it was a dumb plan, but the fact that the town of Riverdale accepted that Betty and Archie would never hook up while Jughead was still alive, thus proving he must be dead, will always be funny to me.

I’m not even going to talk about the trolls today but about how Mary and Petels both reblogged Netflix’s post about Jughead in a cup of eggnog and it made me realize even Netflix seems to realize that Jughead/Cole is the big get of rvd. They have more ads with him as the feature then any of the other cast. And when it’s not him by himself it’s a Bughead ad. I rarely see that many with other cast members. Kind of funny it isn’t just the cw is it RAS and Ted.
Oh past like five seconds in season one, they’ve looongggg gotten that, as well. The last time shit heavily featured KokeJ was for Netflix France with ep 2 of season 1 BTS.....and that’s long taken down....and the only person, again, anybody GAF about was Cole

Don’t get me wrong, I’m soooo happy about last nigh! But I’ve been seeing a lot of b*rchies saying that it happened to fast and that b and a are getting back together. Do you think there might be any logic to that? I don’t wanna be negative but god sometimes you never know with this show
absolutely no logic.
betty and archie had a conversation they’d been post-poning since s2, when they first kissed. it was established what they need from each other. that they don’t work because they’re fundamentally different. but that they can be there for each other if needed, as friends.
betty proved, yet again, that she can only give her darkness to one person. this was established in episode 1.10, when she showed jughead her scars after he said she’d change her mind when archie decided to be with her. archie proved, yet again, that veronica is the only girl who he can have emotional and physical connection, and who he can talk to - something established in the same episode, 1.10.
there’s much to unpack here still. varchie need to get reacquainted as adults, to see how they fit into each other’s lives after almost a decade apart, chad still hasn’t been dealt with 100%, hiram exists and is archie’s archnemesis, there’s much to their relationship and their journey as characters that we can work with, still, especially because, A G A I N, riverdale is plot-driven a show about mysteries and archie is basically a superhero. his journey on love is supposed to be stable as he plays hero around. clark/lois, barry/iris, etc. varchie is not the focus of this show, and neither is bughead, or b*rchie, or whatever. it’s the PLOT.
the plot for the season didn’t even start yet. we don’t know shit about what happened in their pasts, with the mothman, what hiram really wants, etc. this was all foundation. they need varchie together for the plot to move. same with bughead soon, converging for the mystery.
we’re fine. this isn’t one tree hill or gossip girl, don’t forget this show went four seasons with the same formula and will get back to it as soon as possible.

I liked Bh at the time but I just don't know how you reconcile them after everything that's happened, they've taken two very different paths and I know this may start discourse but I just don't think they're compatible anymore. Tabi and Jug seem much better suited. I actually think Archie ends up divorced w/a kid like his dad. Betty opts for neither darkness or suburbia and dedicates herself to the FBI/becomes a PI. Veronica I see going back to NYC. People change/move on that's what we're seeing
I like this for an endgame a lot. I think seeing the characters grow and change was a huge focus in season five, especially when it comes to their parallels with their parents, and Ive been an advocate for private investigator betty for a while too. I think they will all have to move on beyond that town eventually as well, and narratively it'd be a nice ending to see them leave rvd. I'd also love to see archie with a child :) and betty achieving balance is 100% the ideal. n yeah bh is nice platonically, but like you said I just don't think they would work romantically anymore at all.

imagine thinking riverdale season five aka the season where jughead sees the mothmen and archie gets carbon monoxide poisoning and veronica prints her own fake money to stimulate the rivereconomy and also shoots her husband and betty wields a chainsaw is the worst season of the show. sucks to suck I guess :/

what i want for rvd season 4: - Betty gets a fucking wardrobe - Bughead scenes together - - Can they develop friendships? - No more Hiram god damn.. - A regular storyline.- Cheryl + Betty don’t get tortured every five seconds.
Cheryl getting tortured every 5 mins? Are we watching the same show?
Yes it would be great if Betty and Jug could have some mental and physical stability. Yet, could they? Would they start to cause it? Maybe, it being all they've known. Would they become anxious waiting for the other shoe to drop. Cause it would be to good to be true without something messing it up.
I would love to see more Bughead scenes. I'd also love to see the friendships so you can legit feel something and go "yep, they're friends this would pain them. " I would also enjoy if they don't cover up a murder or commit one. Instead Betty is hallucinating like Mark did on Empire Records. With all the blood and Gore. Cause otherwise Betty would find away to save Jughead's hat. Maybe they went to a Gwar concert or simply watched two much Blair Witch 2....maybe it's Halloween and this year its going to be tales of the Crypt style and has nooo connection to the actual show. Haha or better yet RAS and the writers we worked you all up all season for that one part in Season 3. Lol Jokes on you we wrote it out ages ago knowing it wouldn't work. Isn't that great??hahaha.
I totally lost my train of thought now all I can see is them covering some random Misfits song, Like Die, Die my darling when that scene is playing or Gwar pops up and says, "Thank you Betty for the Sacrifice" "Now you gotta clean up the mess" sooo I'm ending it on that note. Sorry Anon.
