Update on Kiku
Been talking to an S2C practitioner and been playing video games as purposeful motor and unreliable body and speech have reduced some. Most reduce in unreliable body, still have unreliable speech but not as much recently.
Hope to do S2C sessions with practicioner soon, just have to see when have money for it. They made a set of sensory boards for us to try and we should get them soon.

ID: a set of four letterboards on a black background a set of three boards with the alphabet divided between them in yellow and red and one with the full alphabet on it in green, yellow, and red. End ID

A volume of the literary magazine Skipping Stones with all writing and art by nonspeaking autistic people! It is separated by 3 parts:
Part I: Being
The works in this section address common themes of being a nonspeaker, such as feeling relegated to the sidelines of human discourse, being underestimated, and having a restless brain and dysregulated body. Many autistic nonspeakers experience synesthesia and hyperesthesia, which can be at times joyful, but other times exhausting and overwhelming. Noah McSweeney adds: [This section] speaks to how we are inside. From my perspective, synesthesia is a mixed bag, not high or low, but an agony I must try to develop tolerance for, especially when I am in a group. When I am alone, it can be pleasurable.
Part II: Becoming
These works explore the joyous transformation that nonspeakers undergo when they finally have a means of communication. Love and gratitude figure prominently in these works, and there is a sense of blossoming. Joy is expressed not just in communication, but in being with others and in dancing.
Part III: Belonging
These works are about finding one’s place in the world, and pursuing one’s dreams and passions. Spellers want what every person wants—respect, friendship, love and the space to be their authentic selves. Guest Editor John-Carlos Schaut writes: “I would emphasize chasing our dreams may be realized through the liberation of communication. The path to freedom is through spelling to communicate.

cw for violence, assault, implied sa
The Cormac family were a moneyed lot; when the bombs dropped, you had best believe they were snug away in some of the best-kept vaults in the nation. Despite having a reputation to upkeep, the Cormacs have since found scandal nipping at their heels at every turn—especially only daughter Anne, born out of wedlock from an affair. Anne’s father’s wife divorced and left him, but in the small world of Vault 35, there wasn’t really anywhere to go. Judgement was cast on Anne long before she was even born.
Growing up under watchful—and usually disdainful—community eyes, Anne became rebellious and wild, deciding to live up to the hellion she felt predestined to be. At the conclusion of one memorably cruel community lecture, Anne’s father announced his shame in being related. Anne’s world crashed down in that moment, but, being sixteen and still a child, she acted out. Electing to be a burden on the Vault no more, Anne ran away that very night—something discovered hours later, when the security tag was found on the floor.
As luck would have it, there was a farm only a day’s worth of walking away. By the time Anne stumbled up the rubble of the driveway to the house, she was dehydrated and becoming delirious. The Mister Handy that had taken up residence there followed its primary programming, nursing the human life back to health. For three years, Anne and Mister Handy survived together, traveling when necessary and only when necessary.
Despite these precautions and others, when raiders did what they do best with a trade caravan Anne was traveling with, she was taken.
She was taken for sport to a raider colony, where she surpassed all expectation and won every fight they put her into. A sizable portion of the crowd crowed to throw her to a feral ghoul they kept in a nearby pit, but small-time raider boss James Bonny came to her defense and bought her for a bride before they could throw her in the pit. Anne was married over her protestations and suffered worse by the end of the night.
Anne was the war bride of a fourth-rate raider and treated like his bitch for the next two years of her life. On the night of their marriage she had sworn she’d slip free and murder him some night. He laughed then. It took two years, admittedly, but eventually he slipped up. Anne got her revenge and then some, lighting the night sky up with his camp once she was done.
Anne has talked her way into big towns and “settles” in them from time to time. She offers what she calls wasteland services, from parcel delivery to bounty hunting and everything in-between. It’s a high risk, high reward kind of lifestyle, but Anne’s finding it agrees with her quite well.

Kiku is looking into trying RPM or S2C to see if it will help with Kiku's apraxia and unreliable speech so a friend made these for Kiku! ☺️

ID: a stack of plastic stencil style letterboards. The top one is light purple and abc format. The next in the stack is orange. At the bottom of the stack is a set of three dark colored letterboards. End ID

I remember when a teacher yelled at me because I could not answer the question via a PECS card. It made me feel stressed and upset. I was six years old and it happened all the time.
I require a communication and regulation partner to help me voice my thoughts. They help me regulate by supporting the letterboard. They support the letterboard to aid my physical limitations and to help my motor planning. They change letterboard colours and stencils as it provides more stimulation and gets me back on track. My favourite letterboard colour is green because it is easy to see and it makes spelling easier.
The letterboard is not placed on the table because I need help with my hands. They have a mind of their own. If it was placed flat on the table my finger would point at the wrong letters because I need the letterboard up high to accommodate my needs.

I hope Soma Mukhopadhyay is haunted forever by the damage to the autistic community she has done for the past 2 decades and indeed continues to do
#my post#just learned there's another RPM movie from the Bergmans I hate it here#influence was so problematic even if you support RPM/S2C#you look into any autism-related subject and somewhere the ghost of Soma and RPM will haunt it and nobody talks about it#am i going insane

Started working on an II watch guide but it's kinda just turning into a simple analysis of the whole series and also revealing my odd rewatch order
#Look III is more fun when you watch it episode -> interview -> episode#also the reason it's ending up like this is I want to provide basic explanations of each seasons quality/tone#and a highly simplified explanation of why S2C isn't worth watching#Look I don't just wanna be “uhh it bad it stinky don't watch it” I think I should provide actual reasons. And also not be petty#object posting

https://i-asc.org/two-crps-are-better-than-one/
Caden Rainey and Jack Haynes, two nonspeakers who use Spelling to Communicate, on why it is important to have multiple communication partners.
It can be really challenging to only have one person to communicate with. Imagine if you could only talk if your parent or spouse was with you too. It’s pretty limiting especially when they can’t be glued to your side every minute of the day. It is even harder for our friends who have to rely on a practitioner to be able to spell.
And be sure to include your speller in the conversation about who they prefer as their next partner if possible. Consult us on all big, or small, decisions. It’s our life, help us live it fully. It is the best gift you can give us.
