Slow Damage Meta: How Taku and Sakaki are Near-Perfect Foils of One Another
(Like with the last meta, this one was posted on Twitter first. With that...)
Honestly, in terms of both characterization and narrative role, Fujieda is the only thing that's keeping Taku from being a contender for being the "true route" character, which says something about Kabura-sensei's masterful writing.
HEAVY, HEAVY SPOILER WARNING for under the “Read More”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just a few words from Toono serve as a massive foreshadowing for the final route. In Taku's route, it's easy to assume that Taku and Sakaki are on the same page when it comes to protecting Towa. It's not entirely wrong.
Technically speaking:
1. Both do want to ensure Towa's safety.  2. Both are described to regard him like their own son.  3. Like Toono said, both are keeping Towa's past a secret from him.
However, the similarities immediately end there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taku's concern for Towa is genuine, even if it makes him do questionable things. His protectiveness of Towa does involve Maya, but it's mostly about shielding Towa from the damage she left on him.
But why does Sakaki want to keep Towa safe, even in the routes where he gave up on enacting Maya's plan? Because Towa is still Maya's son and all that's left of her. So Toono's accusation towards Taku actually applies to Sakaki (without the infatuation bit).
Tumblr media
The most important part where they foil each other though is point #3, where they are secretive about Towa's past. I'm just recounting what the true route revealed, but anyways, their reasons for keeping mum differ.
Taku feared that if Towa remembered his past, he wouldn't be able to handle the trauma of his lost memories. And as we all know, his fears were not unfounded.
Tumblr media
Sakaki only kept quiet because he wanted Towa to remember Maya under specific circumstances. And by that, I mean if the way Towa wanted to remember her wouldn't allow Maya's plan to come to fruition, then Sakaki wouldn't be helpful in Towa's investigation. After all, the trigger that he needed to enact that plan was having any of Towa's art models kill themselves.
Tumblr media
With this, how they see Towa and how they knew Maya is as different as night and day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taku doesn't see Towa as a surrogate for Maya. Sakaki does. Taku never knew about the kind of person Maya really was until it was too late. Sakaki always knew.
There's more to this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taku may have been lying or vague on details to distract Towa from remembering the truth about Maya. But like with the candy shop owner, he noticed there was something Maya was hiding: that small part of her that was aware she's a psychopath and what it deprived her of.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But it was that same manipulative and ruthless psychopath that Sakaki admired in Maya. It was that same admiration for such a kind of person that allowed him to be Maya's right-hand man. However, that's all he saw, nothing more.
How ironic it is that the one who knew of Maya's psychopathy the entire time didn't see that little part of her that was human lurking beneath all her evil, yet the one who was deceived by her till the very end could notice that side of her.
Tumblr media
And besides the part where Taku assures Towa he doesn't see him as a substitute for Maya, there's this line: "I admit there was a time when your mother was my idol." There's some double meaning here.
While it flew past Towa's head, Taku meant to say that before he learned about what Towa really went through at Euphoria, he once admired Maya. He was one of the many who got fooled by her. But when he found out the truth, his admiration for her went down the drain.
Tumblr media
Isn't it just funny and twisted that all the things Taku says whenever Maya is concerned, many of the things that Toono accuses Taku of being, actually apply to Sakaki?
From seeing Towa as a substitute to harboring respect but not having feelings for Maya... when it comes to all those claims, Taku is just the scapegoat, whereas Sakaki is the culprit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The final route makes it clear what their stances really are.
Between Taku, Rei and Madarame, it's Taku's route who has the most replay value after you go through Fujieda's route because of *everything* you'll start noticing that you missed before.
And this, for me, is the one that stands out the most.

7 & 12? For the evils asks
the evils asks Just for you <3
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
listen. in line with worst blorbofication. i don't expressly hate the man, but god Damb does kakashi fandom just annoy the hell out of me. what it is about pale haired emotionally stunted men that produce this completely insane reaction in fandoms worldwide. what about that is so sexy to y'all. i Do Not See It. i don't think he was a particularly good sensei to team 7, and i guess his storyline is ok, but like the absolute insane way that fandom has reduced him to some whimpering pathetic baby cockslut half the time makes me want to fly into the sun. i havent even watched the fuckgin show but ur wrong. and why the obsession for emotionally unavailable men? i, for one, like a good man who can communicate a feeling. everyone including kakashi go to therapy challenge. ps pierrot and viz and whatever else companies i am begging you to make merch and illustrations for ANY OTHER CHARACTER GOD
i do love a good kakagai moment though. everyone go read sakaki by @urieskooki
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
tenten! fuck you guys. she's the funniest character in team gai listen. listen lee's a loser. i love him. but he's a loser. he's only funny in an i'm a walking social blunder way. neji's funny but only in the way the proletariat laugh at rich people who buy a solid silver tin can from tiffanys for £945 and call it fashion. tenten is the only one who is actually fucking hilarious. why is she not the star of every comedy fic. also she beat sasuke in the polls and i will treat this one specific instance as gospel thank u
consider the cursed asks

For day 2 of @rumicworldweek I wrote a silly little thing to show my love for one of the many doomed Rumiko Takahashi love rivals out there
Tumblr media
Summary: Tsubasa ponders an intriguing change in Sakura and what this means for his love quest. Set post-manga finale. 628 words. Gen.
Read under the cut. Also available on AO3.
The more Rika and Miho chit-chatted beside him, the more Tsubasa Juumonji furrowed his brow. Feigning ignorance, he decided the decades-old exorcism journal he was holding in his hands was more worthy of his attention.
“Sakura-chan has been smiling more since she made up with Rokudou-kun, don’t you think?”
“I told you! They are so dating, they can’t even hide it anymore”
And it was this exchange the one that made him finally take his eyes off the carefully annotated instructions on how to create a special blend of holy ashes. He went on to scan the classroom, as he normally did, in search of the object of his affection. Sakura Mamiya was handing the aforementioned redheaded Shinigami an additional bento box. The memory of the recent embrace those two had shared in the Spirit World –as seen through Annette-sensei’s crystal ball– burned in his mind. Thus, Tsubasa stared intently at the rumored couple, curious to see if the consequences of whatever had happened between them were a threat to his own love story.
His world momentarily sank as he contemplated how the normally stoic Sakura was indeed smiling the sweetest smile he had seen thus far. And she was dedicating that smile to Rinne of all people. He could almost swear he’d noticed a hint of a blush in her perfectly soft-looking cheeks.
But Tsubasa was, of course, a man of logic. This has an easy explanation, he told himself. The additional lunch was at this point a tradition of the friendship between Sakura and the financially broke Rinne Rokudou. And it’s not like the food itself was carefully cooked by Sakura herself, no. Perhaps her mom (age 39) had overdone her cooking portions once again. And the blush? Merely a trick of the mind, a most treacherous doubt that the bumbling Rika and Miho had planted in him with their constant gossiping.
His pulse violently accelerated the moment he noticed Sakura had returned to her normal expression and was staring back at him. He saw her –oh so charming– lips moving, muttering an excuse to Rinne as she strode towards the lovestruck exorcist.
“Is there anything wrong, Tsubasa-kun?” He could honestly never grow tired of the way her voice sounded whenever she pronounced his name, no matter the tone she used. Each of the syllables was his own private concerto.
“M-Mamiya-san” he initially spouted, a sudden confidence growing in his chest as he came up with a solution to disguise his stalking. “My father got me an exorcism job downtown this afternoon and I wondered if you wanted to come along, that’s all”
“Oh, sure”
And then the smile came back, and with it Tsubasa could feel his heart melting in real time. He failed to notice that this version of her facial expression was subtler –polite, even– compared to the one offered to his rival moments ago. After all, if he could elicit the most exquisite upturn of Sakura Mamiya’s lips, then Rinne Rokudou wasn’t as special as the girl’s friends had claimed.
I still have a shot with Mamiya-san, he internally shouted with glee, both of his fists up in the air. Today we’ll go on a date and maybe I’ll get to see more of her adorable smiles!
Or maybe not so internally…
“Juumonji-kun, you said that out loud. Again”, he heard an exasperated Rika say.
But Tsubasa Juumonji, young master of Western-style exorcisms (and self-delusions) paid no attention whatsoever. Not even to the stinging pain the tip of one irritated Rinne’s Shinigami scythe was inflicting on his head as he bluntly hit him, nor to the chilly and tight embrace of the long-distance traveling disembodied spirit of one Ayame Sakaki.
There was nothing for him to be worried about in the end.

Hello and welcome to Day 7 of "Let's Explore My Plot Bunnies"
Tumblr media
Sorry for posting this a bit late today, I was busy, and the idea was a bit complicated to put in words. (Don't you love when your brain gives you only vivid images but abandons you when you need to describe them? Yeah, me too)
The fic idea I wanna explore today is actually a collab fanfic between me and my friend @yokomisaki.
This is a Canon Divergence AU for Naruto that both of us came up with around *checks notes* July 13th, 2023. It actually started with me saying that "Shiranui Genma is definitely a motherhen to anybody that he deems in need of motherhening" and that evolved into "Shiranui Genma would make a great Jounin Sensei" before it settled into "Make Shiranui Genma a Jonin Sensei and then throw Naruto at him cause god, does the kid need someone like him in his life".
I came up with a title for this fic, and we already started writing it. I have done a small part of the prologue so far, but we have chapters planned out (just not written out yet).
Title of the fic:
"The late dog always barks at the closed door"
(Yes, it is a jab at Kakashi's habit of being late. Is it mean of me to do this? Yes. Do I care? Not really. I feel he needs a bit of a reality check for that; like, you can be late for your own personal meetings but NOT FOR A FREAKING OFFICIAL MEETING)
Synopsis/Description:
Shiranui Genma is many things, but he is not a teacher. At least not until the Hokage decides that, in the wake of one Jounin Sensei's death, he is to take a team of 3 freshly graduated children under his wing. The good news is that he is not obligated to pass them. The bad news is that he actually likes the brats - despite the fact that he knows only headaches will follow him now.
In the one year he had the brats for a lot changed, including what one of his students wanted to do with her life as a shinobi. Now, Genma is required to get a new Gennin to make up for the student (and she is still his student dammit; no official paper will ever change that) that decided to pursue the career of "not-battle active medic-nin".
When it was time for him to choose, he recognized a certain hyperactive blonde as part of the rooster he could choose from - which is weird since Hatake seems to want him. So then why was not the kid already spoken for?
After some consideration, Genma came up with his answer.
"Hokage-sama, I want to take Uzumaki Naruto as the new member for Team 3."
Some details:
I know Team 3 is supposed to be Might Guy, Neji Hyuuga, Tenten, and Rock Lee; however, I have always believed them to be team 9, so it is really hard for me to correct that belief. Thus, just for the sake of my brain, Genma's team is Team 3, while Guy's team is team 9.
This fic will have (so far) 4 OCs: Kawamura Chizuru (Part of Team 3 - retires from active duty but is still considered part of the team by Genma); Nomura Akira (Part of Team 3); Higashi Kyoka (Part of Team 3); Sakaki Ichirou (the boy that takes Naruto's place in team 7)
Yes, at Naruto's graduation team, because he also got to graduate, there was one person that would have to be put in another team as the numbers wouldn't add up (think instead of 21 kids aka 7 teams of 3, there are 22 kids that graduated)
We have most of the plot for the OG series already thought out; the Shippuden part is more complicated (because of what we do with the pervious part)
Naruto is getting the darn support system that he is in need of in this AU
And I am not overlooking Sasuke either. Without Naruto around to push him, Sasuke will realize that he is pretty much isolated (thank you Konoha Elders and Teacher from the Akademy (Not Iruka), you did a fantastic job *note the sarcasm*). Cause really, the main reason why it didn't look like Sasuke was isolated by others (and instead it showed he chose isolation) is because Naruto is like 10 people in one presence-wise. And because I am taking Naruto away from the picture, I raise you this idea: Get Raidou (or any competent adult) to interact with Sasuke. Sasuke needs more competent adults in his life at this point
Everyone - and I mean EVERYONE - is getting character development. Even just some characters that appear for a few times. And I am dragging Kakashi from his brooding corner, kicking and screaming if I have to. (And yes, that includes villains, too. *looks at my brain planned storyline* And summons get the same treatment as well)
Another thing: Political Sub-plot. Ya think that with all the importance they put on, not only rank but missions that get you in different countries, this show would have more political talk; but no. So we are bringing Naruto into politics. Inter-village Politics, to be precise. Naruto, prepare your Talk no Jutsu.
Also, Fuuinjutsu Made-Up Theory Stuff. Just because I can and I will (I am in charge of Fuuinjitsu stuff). Genma is making Naruto learn them from scratch.
We are addressing the fact that the Shinobi Academy of Konoha was turned into a "civilian playground" because of the Konoha Elders. (It's way worse than you can think if Genma makes Naruto re-learn stuff from zero) - there is no way any fight will have some bullshit pop-quiz about History or Chakra Theory. How in the world are those kids alive?
We also have Orochimaru Plot™️. A whole ton of it too.
We also get into the "Preparation to Take a Life on the Battlefield" thing. Because people there seem to not do it anymore. Like, get the kids to kill animals in the wild after catching them. Is it hard? Yes. But THEY NEED THE DAMN EXPERIENCE SO THEY DON'T FREEZE UP AS BADLY IN COMBAT.
Get Naruto into the Tactical Thinking. Not because he is Shikamaru Level at it; but because he is good at surprising the enemy. So Naruto's shenanigans + some tactician lessons = Perfect Combo for Ambush.
Naruto and Kurama interact earlier. And, while it won't be that much better than the beginning of their friendship in the anime, we are getting the friendship a lot faster this time.
Finally, Team 3, being trained by Genma, starts to pick up having Senbons on them. It's like their "mark" as Genma's kids. (Genma is so proud)
This is all I have currently (mostly because it's late at night here, and I am losing my thought process). I will also post what I have written from the Prologue after this is posted, so look forward to that.
So, what do you think? Good? Bad?
I will see you guys later. Take care and have a great day/night!

I'm in the middle of episode 9 of Night beyond the tricornered window, and I had a thought which I don't think adds up but still.
Rihito talks about his mother's jewellery he left behind at the house when he left and getting it back from Sensei.
I don't know when Sensei took over the lot and at what point in the timeline, but what about the jewellery piece from the jewellery box he gave to mama Mikado back before he left.
What I've seen so far it looks like he took over the lot after he had left them.
And Sakaki "gaining antibodies against death". First ever death vaccine! It's a medical breakthrough!

[88scones (Sakaki Tsui)] Sensei Shikkaku [Eng]: Chapter 1
Yk, how some manga writers, make one character look super younger and adorable and the other character way older than them but they're actually the same age or not in a pedo state? Yh... I rlly hope this is the case... or that would be rlly fucking weird.

Eiichiro Oda and Gosho Aoyama interview
there are some interesting bits in this interview where they talk about romance in their series.
Credits: Sakaki | Source: wsstalkback
--------------------------------------------------
“Love Comedy”, “Friendship” and Character’s Charm!
– What do you two think is your manga’s power?
Oda: I think the most important feature of manga is for it to be “a tool to make friends”. I know it’s a pretty common topic, but in fact I did make many friends when I was a child through it.
Aoyama: I hope "Detective Conan" helps people with their love relationships haha, that way readers can fall in love like the characters from the series. But well, those mostly end up as “murder love comedies” hahaha.
Oda: It’s all a dream world, so I always strive to draw beautiful scenes.
– Speaking of love comedies, Aoyama-sensei previously said that “romcoms”, “adventure” and “friendship” are the “3 elements of shonen manga hits”, and it is clear Aoyama-sensei is good at “love comedy and adventure”, and Oda-sensei is good at “adventure and friendship”.
Aoyama: Love comedies… You haven’t drawn anything like that, right Oda-kun?
Oda: I haven’t. There’s a tradition in Jump that states love comedies are love comedies, battles are battles. They’re two separated genres and totally different works.
Aoyama: Oh well, I guess love comedy developments while battling are not for Jump.
Oda: I haven’t read many of those either, but ‘Detective Conan’ integrates those elements properly! I think you make a really good use of those settings.
Aoyama: Well, I do enjoy love comedies, but I guess you’re not really interested in them, Oda-kun.
Oda: I’m not confident I could draw those, it’s a bit embarrassing haha.
Aoyama: On the other hand, friendship is a tough theme for me. It’s not impossible for me to draw, but I don’t really come up with stuff I think “Oh, this is cool”. I think the only characters I can picture that topic on are the police academy members.
Oda: ‘Detective Conan’ actually has a lot of romantic relationships, right? It’s full of bidirectional feelings. But I also know that if I draw romance, some of my fans leave. I think it’s fine when they’re one-sided feelings, but if it goes both ways, both characters lose fans.
Aoyama: I won’t leave haha. (I wont either Oda, please 🙏)
Oda: Ah, seriously!?
Aoyama: On the contrary, I think it’s exciting. Most of my characters have couples. It’s quite rare to find one without a partner.
Oda: People seem so supportive of couples! That’s something I didn’t really read when I was a kid. During the old days of Jump, there were mangaka that wouldn't even draw women. That’s why I’m one of those that sent submissions with female characters. I did want to draw strong women, and I think characters like Nami were quite rare back in those days.
interesting huh? 👀 I'm looking forward to a particular romantic comedy ~

Tonbo, me dit Saki.
Sakaki, me dit Saki.
On dit merci, à demi-mot.
Dans le vent, les petits éclairs de papier bruissent.
Je pèle ma clémentine. Sous sa peau verte, elle est parfaite. Orange, sucrée, sans pépins.

Omg Yamashita-sensei will release a special "Afterwards" story on 12/20. This is the new cover!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The synopsis is about an infectious curse. This time it seems Hiyakawa and Mukae was infected. The curse is a story-telling curse? Lol so those infected will tell the same story to others with some changes in names and places. They will also have difficulties in conveying it and those who heard will not be able to comprehend it clearly yet will also be infected. (Not really sure since my JP is basic, I'm just translating for myself so only like 50% sure lmao). This is the preview:
Page 1
Mikado: I hate scary stories but...
Mikado: the narration (?) is good... (°ロ°٥)
Erika: That was interestiing~ (≧∇≦)
Erika: That's right!
Mukae: Don't you dare say anything about being cursed.
Erika: bad-tempered... (¬_¬)
Mukae : I never thought that I would curse someone even once in my life.
Sakaki: what a good life, huh.
Mukae: Shut up!
Page 2
Erika: too old too weak for this curse though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (i'm not sure lol)
Mukae: uugh... -_-|| (timid/too weak)
Erika: It seems Keita-kun's [Don't say anything] appears to be stronger. (also not sure lol)
Mukae: ...
Erika: well then, Let's get rid of this curse!
I love how Hiyakawa doesn't even say a word and is just chilling there apathetically 😆
It'd be available on Amazon JP like other volumes so far, but I really hope @sublimemanga could also license this into English 🙏. Source

The Promises They Couldn't Keep
The Promises They Couldn't Keep (The People Who We Used To Be) by AntiqueOwl
“I am. Shame on you, Deku. You missed my coronation.” He couldn't keep it in even more, sobs freely breaking out and filling the space around them. Suddenly everything that was happening felt more real, emotions tearing through the apathy he'd clung to for so many years. She was crying too, tears silently running down her cheeks. Cheeks that still had baby fat when he had seen her last, but no longer`. When he put a hand on her shoulder to make sure she was real, she dragged him into a bone crushing hug and they both slid to the floor.
Izuku got captured during the war. A decade later, he's saved by the most unlikely person.
