The Evolving New York City Workplace: Two Important Updates Effective November 1st
The Evolving New York City Workplace: Two Important Updates Effective November 1st
Two important measures impacting New York City employers will be effective on November 1, 2022. The first measure is Mayor Adams’ lifting of the COVID-19 vaccine requirement for private employers, which was implemented by his predecessor Mayor de Blasio shortly before he left office. The second measure is New York City’s new “pay transparency” law, which continues the city’s aggressive efforts to…

The cost of staffing the premier’s office under Doug Ford has more than doubled since 2018, according to public salary disclosure data, spending that has far outpaced his predecessor Kathleen Wynne.
Public salary disclosures of those making $100,000 or more, also known as the Sunshine List, for 2023 show the total number of staff in the premier’s office under Ford, along with the number of people earning six figures, has grown since 2019, the Progressive Conservative Party’s first full year in office.
The increase in spending is a departure from the government’s initial declaration that Ford was ushering in a “new era of fiscal responsibility and respect for taxpayers.” The premier said that under his stewardship, his government would search for savings while remaining mindful of how Queen’s Park was spending public dollars.
In 2019, the Progressive Conservative’s first full year in office, 20 employees made the Sunshine List in the premier’s office, costing taxpayers $2.9 million in total compensation. [...]

"Arena and Jones recruited 512 heterosexual participants who were on average 34 years old for their second study -about half were women and half were men. Participants were told to take the perspective of a company's hiring committee looking to hire a new employee. . . Participants had to read the application and rate the applicant on several measures, including the extent to which they thought the information disclosed in the application was appropriate, whether they thought the person was qualified, whether that person would be a good fit for the hiring organization, how likely they would be to hire the person, and what the appropriate starting salary for this person would be.
Unbeknownst to the participants, the researchers wanted to find out whether it would matter if the mock job applicant was bisexual. To test the influence of this, the researchers gave each participant the same resume, but the letter of intent had a tiny modification which changed whether the mock applicant was gay, or bisexual, or did not disclose their sexuality at all. While some were given a letter with the sentence 'As a gay man, I encountered some challenges in gaining my coworkers' liking and respect,' others had 'As a bisexual man' or 'As a strong-willed man'. . .
Bisexual applicants were rated lower on various measures than the other applicants. Why? Because bisexual disclosure was seen as significantly less 'appropriate' than gay disclosure. The letter of intent from the bi man was rated as more inappropriate than the letter from the gay man, and both were rated as less appropriate than the strong-willed man . . . If the job applicant shared the 'inappropriate' information that they were bisexual, this had knock-on effects for the other aspects of deciding whether the person would be a good hire. This included receiving the lowest salary offers. On average the recommended starting pay for bisexual applicants was $30,126.99, for gay applicants it was $33,183.10, and for those who made no mention of sexuality it was $35,555.19. This translates into a 15 percent penalty for the openly bisexual applicants."

Clarence Thomas secretly accepted luxury trips from a major GOP donor
Island-hopping on a superyacht. Private jet rides around the world. The undisclosed gifts to Thomas have no known precedent in the modern history of the Supreme Court. “It’s incomprehensible to me that someone would do this,” says one former judge.
IN LATE JUNE 2019, right after the U.S. Supreme Court released its final opinion of the term, Justice Clarence Thomas boarded a large private jet headed to Indonesia. He and his wife were going on vacation: nine days of island-hopping in a volcanic archipelago on a superyacht staffed by a coterie of attendants and a private chef.
If Thomas had chartered the plane and the 162-foot yacht himself, the total cost of the trip could have exceeded $500,000. Fortunately for him, that wasn’t necessary: He was on vacation with real estate magnate and Republican megadonor Harlan Crow, who owned the jet — and the yacht, too.

For more than two decades, Thomas has accepted luxury trips virtually every year from the Dallas businessman without disclosing them, documents and interviews show. A public servant who has a salary of $285,000, he has vacationed on Crow’s superyacht around the globe. He flies on Crow’s Bombardier Global 5000 jet. He has gone with Crow to the Bohemian Grove, the exclusive California all-male retreat, and to Crow’s sprawling ranch in East Texas. And Thomas typically spends about a week every summer at Crow’s private resort in the Adirondacks.
The extent and frequency of Crow’s apparent gifts to Thomas have no known precedent in the modern history of the U.S. Supreme Court.
These trips appeared nowhere on Thomas’ financial disclosures. His failure to report the flights appears to violate a law passed after Watergate that requires justices, judges, members of Congress and federal officials to disclose most gifts, two ethics law experts said. He also should have disclosed his trips on the yacht, these experts said.

Black Lives Matter is headed for INSOLVENCY after plunging $8.5M into the red - but founder Patrisse Cullors' brother was still paid $1.6M for 'security services' in 2022, while sister of board member earned $1.1M for 'consulting'
By: Harriet Alexander
Published: May 24, 2024
Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, a non-profit that grew out of the protest movement, is haemorrhaging cash, financial records show
The group ran an $8.5 million deficit and saw the value of its investment accounts drop by nearly $10 million, with fundraising down 88% year-on-year
Despite the financial woes, the organization still paid relatives of the founder and of a board member hundreds of thousands of dollars for services
Black Lives Matter's national organization is at risk of going bankrupt after its finances plunged $8.5 million into the red last year - while simultaneously handing multiple staff seven-figure salaries.
Financial disclosures obtained by The Washington Free Beacon show the perilous state of BLM's Global Network Foundation, which officially emerged in November 2020, as a more formal way of structuring the civil rights movement.
Yet despite the financial controversy and scrutiny, BLM GNF continued to hire relatives of the founder, Patrisse Cullors, and several board members.
Cullors' brother, Paul Cullors, set up two companies which were paid $1.6 million providing 'professional security services' for Black Lives Matter in 2022.

Tumblr media
[ Paul Cullors was employed as the head of the security team at the $6 million Los Angeles mansion (pictured) bought with charity donations ]
Paul Cullors was also one of BLM's only two paid employees during the year, collecting a $126,000 salary as 'head of security' on top of his consulting fees. He is best known as a graffiti artist, with no background in security.
Patrisse Cullors defended hiring him, saying registered security firms which hired former police officers could not be trusted, given the movement's opposition to police brutality.
For the previous year, 2021, tax filings revealed that BLM paid a company owned by Damon Turner, the father of Cullors' child, nearly $970,000 to help 'produce live events' and provide other 'creative services.'
Cullors resigned in May 2021.
'While Patrisse Cullors was forced to resign due to charges of using BLM's funds for her personal use, it looks like she's still keeping it all in the family,' said Paul Kamenar, an attorney for the National Legal and Policy Center watchdog group.
Shalomyah Bowers, who took over from Cullors when she resigned, also benefitted handsomely from the group: in 2022, his consultancy firm was paid $1.7 million for management and consulting services, the Free Beacon reported.
And the sister of former Black Lives Matter board member Raymond Howard was also employed in a lucrative role as a consultant.
Danielle Edwards's firm, New Impact Partners, was paid $1.1 million for consulting services in 2022, the Free Beacon said.
BLM GNF also agreed to pay an additional $600,000 to an unidentified former board member's consulting firm 'in connection with a contract dispute'.
The non-profit group ran an $8.5 million deficit, and its investment accounts fell in value by nearly $10 million in the most recent tax year, financial disclosures show.
The group logged a $961,000 loss on a securities sale of $172,000, suggesting the group sustained an 85 percent loss on the transaction. Further details of that security have not been shared.
And the cash flowing into BLM's coffers has dropped dramatically.
Donations plunged by 88 percent between 2021 and 2022, from $77 million to just $9.3 million for the most recent financial year.
Patrisse Cullors, who had been at the helm of the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation for nearly six years, stepped down in May 2021, amid anger at the group's financial decisions and perceived lack of transparency.
A year later, in May 2022, it was revealed Black Lives Matter spent more than $12 million on luxury properties in Los Angeles and in Toronto - including a $6.3 million 10,000-square-foot property in Canada that was purchased as part of a $8M 'out of country grant.'
The Toronto property was bought with grant money that was meant for 'activities to educate and support black communities, and to purchase and renovate property for charitable use.'
The group had said it was planning to use the property as main headquarters in Canada, and it has now been named the Wilseed Center for Arts and Activism.
It emerged that Cullors transferred millions from the organization to a charity run by her wife, Janaya Khan, to purchase the property.
Cullors admitted to AP that her group was ill-equipped to handle the finances of a charity which received $90 million the year after George Floyd was killed - but denied any wrongdoing.
Cullors issued a statement denying she used the $6 million LA property for personal purposes, but then had to backtrack and admit she had used the compound for purposes that were not strictly business.
The activist also amassed a $3 million property portfolio of her own, including homes in LA and Georgia, although there is no suggestion of any financial impropriety.
It is not known if the group paid out lucrative contracting fees to Cullors' friends and family past June 2022, when a new board of directors was brought in.
The board is now led by nonprofit adviser Cicley Gay, who has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy three times since 2005.
Gay was ordered by a court to attend financial management lessons, and at the time of her appointment in April 2022 had more than $120,000 in unpaid debt.
She was one of three people appointed to the board, the organization said in a tweet. She subsequently was described as being chair of the board.
She told The New York Times she had been appointed to straighten out the organization's finances, after BLMGFN faced intense scrutiny over its spending of donor cash.
'No one expected the foundation to grow at this pace and to this scale,' said Gay.
'Now, we are taking time to build efficient infrastructure to run the largest Black, abolitionist, philanthropic organization to ever exist in the United States.'
It later emerged that Gay has been declared bankrupt three times, according to federal reports obtained by The New York Post.
Gay, a mother of three, filed for bankruptcy in 2005, 2013 and 2016.
BLMGFN has faced intense questions about its handling of donations, which surged in particular during the George Floyd protests in the summer of 2020.
The organization in February 2021 said it had taken in more than $90 million in 2020 and still had $60 million on hand.
Last year, it was down to $42 million, while the Free Beacon reports BLM has now spent two thirds of the $90 million cash it had to hand.
Cullors, the co-founder of the organization, resigned in May 2021 as director of BLMGNF, amid scrutiny of her own property empire. She has written best-selling books, and has a contract with Warner Brothers to produce content.
Then in April 2022 it emerged that BLMGFN had bought a mansion in Los Angeles for $5.8 million, which they said was to be used as a 'safe space' for activists and for events.
The organization responded to the reports in a lengthy Twitter feed, with the group noting that more 'transparency' was required going forward.
Tumblr media
[ Black Lives Matter has apologized following an expose that detailed how the organization had used donations to purchase a $6 million home in Los Angeles ]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ In a lengthy Twitter thread on Monday morning, the group vowed to be more transparent in the future ]
'There have been a lot of questions surrounding recent reports about the purchase of Creator's House in California. Despite past efforts, BLMGNF recognizes that there is more work to do to increase transparency and ensure transitions in leadership are clear,' it stated.
BLM then proceeded to blame the media for the furore and the 'inflammatory and speculative' reports that saw journalists probing the group's financials saying that it 'caused harm'
The reports 'do not reflect the totality of the movement,' the organization claimed.
'We know narratives like this cause harm to organizers doing brilliant work across the country and these reports do not reflect the totality of the movement,' one of the tweets reads. 'We apologize for the distress this has caused to our supporters and those who work in service of Black liberation daily.'
'We are redoubling our efforts to provide clarity about BLMGNF's work,' noting an 'internal audit' was underway together with 'tightening compliance operations and creating a new board to help steer to the organization to its next evolution.'
Tumblr media
[ The organization also criticized the original New Yorker article, pictured above, describing it as 'inflammatory and speculative' ]
Tumblr media
[ BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors (above) came under fire last year for a slew of high-profile property purchases. She resigned in May 2021 and has called reports investigation the $6 million mansion 'despicable' and claimed that criticisms against her are 'sexist and racist' ]
Tumblr media
[ The home features six bedrooms and a pool in the back. BLM claimed the home was bought to provide a safe house for 'black creativity' but had allegedly tried to hide the home's existence  ]
Tumblr media
[ The mansion comes complete with a sound stage (pictured) and mini filming studio which the group had used in one of its video campaigns ]
BLM attempted to justify the purchase of the mansion by saying it was made to encourage 'Black creativity' with the property 'a space for Black folks to share their gifts with the world and hone their crafts as we see it.'
The organization also went on to defend how the funds the group raised were spent including the $3 million used for 'COVID relief' and a further $25 million dollars to black-led organizations.
'We are embracing this moment as an opportunity for accountability, healing, truth-telling, and transparency. We understand the necessity of working intentionally to rebuild trust so we can continue forging a new path that sustains Black people for generations,' the group wrote.
The barrage of tweets, which notably had their comments turned off, ended with the group announcing they were 'embracing this moment as an opportunity for accountability, healing, truth-telling, and transparency' and 'working intentionally to rebuild trust.'
Tumblr media
[ Internal memos from BLM revealed the group wanted to keep the purchase secret, despite filming a video on the home's patio in May ]
Tumblr media
[ The Studio City home - which sits on a three-quarter-acre lot - boasts more than half-dozen bedrooms and bathrooms, a 'butler's pantry' in the kitchen (pictured) ]
Concerns over the groups finances have swirled for years with BLM coming under intense scrutiny in the past.
In February 2022 the group stopped online fundraising following a demand by the California attorney general tho show where millions of dollars in donations received in 2020 went.
The group said the 'shutdown' was simply short term while any 'issues related to state fundraising compliance' were addressed.
--
Everybody figured out that it was a scam and always has been.
criticisms against her are 'sexist and racist'
"How dare you notice the things that I'm doing?" is the manipulative language of an abuser.
to rebuild trust
Grifters gotta grift. Defund BLM.

Venus in 8th house: why do they turn ice cold?
Tumblr media
There is little doubt that Venus in 8th house makes some of the most intense individuals ever. But what makes them turn ice cold and dark?
They have a tendency to overly attach to anyone who seems to flatter them, show them love/likeness/attention. You can control a venus in 8th house (also, venus in scorpio) with flattery, manipulation, gaslighting, lies because they are easy to trust your words. These are some of the most gullible people around because of their intensity. Their intense emotions shadow their thought structure, judgment and perception.
They also emotionally attach to people quickly. Give themselves to their lover, friends, family wholeheartedly without reservations. But sadly, humans are evil by nature deep down. It is the primitive source of law of jungle. In civilized societies, the appearence changes but biology does not. There is no such thing as a genuine good person. There is no such thing as a free gift. There is no such thing as unconditional love. But these ideals are what venus in 8th house natives tend to believe in.
It is their energy that only attracts toxic people in their lives. Others seem to be having a fun time with friends and family but these natives are just surrounded by people who are selfish cunning narcissistic. The native seeks validation and acceptance from people, only to feel more lonely when the betrayal is realized.
With 8th house, everything is sudden. Sudden disclosure of the hidden personality. Someone who was close to native by blood or relationship, and suddenly native realizes that they were verbally emotionally abusive all along, gaslit them and used them for their resources, benefits and power. Someone who acted very friendly was just after their salary, social connections and perks you can give them. Someone who was flattering and love bombing was just buttering them for leadership, control and to make them dependent.
I have seen it many times how venus in 8th house attracts psychically controlling, manipulative, self centered and abusive people. These native clouded by their feelings intensity are not able to judge the intention of the other person until it is too late. There is something very innocent about venus in 8th house/venus in scorpio. The innocence is about projection of unconscious idealism on other people. Like fairytale romance and hopeless romanticism. How can others be evil if they flatter me? How can others be bad if they are love bombing me?
People who are attracted to the lives of these natives are their shadow figure. These natives are no saint. If they are intense it is because they want love from others. They want the same things as a narcissist but under different names. This is one reason why they also marry a rich spouse because of internal status seeking. These natives want to indulge in luxury and status. They are envious and jealous of others success and possessions. They are controlling and possessive of their resources, people and objects. Who said that love is innocence? Venus in 8th house natives use LOVE to feel powerful. They use their intensity to control their lover.
The narcissism of venus in 8th house is different from fire signs and air signs narcissism. These natives crave love, merger, control, caretaking, status, power, validation and public image all at once. But they also feel empathy, remorse, guilt, shame, sadness. I have seen fire and air signs being cruel users. Most of them will never mature and change.
So when venus in 8th house hits rock bottom or emotional turmoil and if the rest of the chart also supports it, they start doing self reflection and shadow work. They discover layer after layer of their psyche. They see their own evil. They see their own darkness. They are also exposed to the bad people in their lives who reflect their own unconscious traits to them. It all happens back to back because 8th house gives no warning. 8th house has no mercy. All karmic lessons back to back. You recover from one lesson only to be hit by the next one out of nowhere. Bloody out of nowhere. You are living your life trying to chill but 8th house keeps sending bad people in your life for self reflection. It keeps taking things from you. It keeps messing things up suddenly.
This is how venus in 8th house native goes dark and ice cold. They have to shield themselves. They know their darkness and see it in others. Maturity makes them cynical and deep.

The current Takarazuka Revue Policy on Copyright
As of yesterday after updating the Maiti article, my friend reminded me that Takarazuka Revue has updated their policy on copyright with an FAQ of 13 questions. This leads to limitation of expression in the Takarazuka fandom unfortunately and that’s why a “climate shift” of fan accounts privatizing their accounts.
For the official link, you can read it here, but the translation is as follows:
all intellectual property of takarazuka revue (names, lyrics, script, images, audio, video, merchandise, stage design, publications of performers, staff and performances) belong to takarazuka revue.
no photography and videography is allowed in the second and third floor zones of “takarazuka revue hall of fame”. in places that photography is allowed, unless you are in the foreground of the images, you must not post such images online.
takarazuka performances may be restaged in schools’ cultural festivals if (i) it is not for profit, (2) no ticket fee collection, (3) no salary distribution to performers. please do not change the title and content of performance. please show but not rent out the programmes.
it is stricly forbidden to record broadcasted materials at home in order to sell, rent out to others, or for other purposes beyond personal viewing use.
when using the music (lyrics/songs) of takarazuka revue, please first consult the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers.
all intellectual property contained in the “takarazuka revue pocket app” belongs to takarazuka revue.  there should be no disclosure (by means of saving, posting, recording) of such context on media pages. do not post pictures of merchandise on social media profiles.
phototaking of performers outside the theatre is currently forbidden, but you may do so for own use and commemoration. you must not distribute or sell such content on media pages. please do not follow performers for phototaking. staff will give warning in case that happens.
please do not reproduce or reedit merchandise and/or publications, and post such content on media profiles.
please be wary of taking photos for memory that the foreground should not include the performers’ appearances, or else it must not be posted.
stage design includes “title logo”, “stage sets” and “stage curtain”. please do not post images with the abovementioned context on media profiles, unless you are in the foreground of the image.
all intellectual property contained in the homepage of takarazuka revue belongs to takarazuka revue.  there should be no disclosure (by means of saving, posting, recording) of such context on media pages.
the copyright of scripts from original performances of takarazuka revue belongs to takarazuka revue. there should be no reediting, alteration and/or redistribution of such publications.
it is not allowed that you create goods related to takarazuka revue intellectual property for personal or commercial use.
it is not allowed that you create art related to takarazuka revue intellectual property for personal or commercial use. such art should not be used as media profile icons or banners.
my personal take on this policy rules: i will be making some of my accounts private too, but feel free to still request follow i will still allow. for instance, i have privated my account on twitter and created a new one where it would comply with takarazuka revue rules only by mentioning of updates in text, feel free to find this new account here.
i will also be more discreet in sharing my continual translation efforts.
but i do recommend if you have done the above, you don’t necessarily have to delete all, but private the account would be fine. feel free to message me if you have any questions, or asking other takarazuka revue fans would be fine too.

⟢ - Structure of the 𝐀𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍
Tumblr media
The 𝐀𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 operates as a corporation and trust, funding research for various fields of scientific study through grants. It also engages in many different charitable acts related to the rehabilitation and conservation of endangered Pokémon, especially those native to the islands of Alola.
The corporation was founded by current sitting president and CEO, Lusamine Delacroix, with her husband, Mohn Delacroix, serving as vice president until his disappearance. The pair set out to establish a higher standard for how humans, Pokémon and technology can work with one another, while benefiting the natural ecosystems. Aether works alongside many different organizations throughout, and outside of, Alola.
Fields of Interest
The foundation funds projects, research, innovations and expeditions related, but not limited to, conservation, ecology, biochemistry, physics, epidemiology, genetic engineering, and computer engineering. Scientists and scholars from across the globe often seek out the foundation’s funding, traveling to the Aether Paradise in order to meet with members of the board, and Lusamine herself. There is quite the impressive network of intellects connected to the foundation, and it is not unusual to see the Aether seal stamped onto many peer reviewed journals.
Grants and scholarships for students pursuing careers in STEM are also gifted by the Aether Foundation. Many of these students are then placed into internships at the paradise, or in one of the Aether Houses— and funneled into a permanent position of employment upon graduation. The foundation relies on having the most brilliant, cunning minds involved with their projects, and so they make sure to leave a good impression on the scientific community. It is pretty common to see an Aether representative at any major conference involving STEM, or around university campuses.
Working for the Aether Foundation
Employment with the Aether Foundation ranges across different positions— from field researchers, to chemists, to public relations, and many, many more. Those who work at the Aether Paradise work directly with Aether’s conservation programs, vaccination developments, and technology departments. And the genetics program and UB project, if you’re aware of the horrors.
Gaining employment, however, is no simple task. Lusamine expects an impressive resume, and a mind to match, but if somebody passes the hiring process, it is great job security— as long as they do not disappoint her.
All employees are required to sign a non-disclosure agreement upon being hired. All positions are by contract, and salary paid.
All employees are required to submit their biometrics.
The hierarchy
From highest to lowest:
President
Vice President (currently unoccupied)
Branch Manager
Assistant Branch Manager
Divisional Manager
Assistant Divisional Manager
Office Administration
Lead Associate
Associate
Intern
Scientists and research teams are categorized and ranked based on individual projects and assignments.
Accessing the Aether Paradise
If commuting to work, employees have two options: traveling across the water from one of the islands via Aether-owned ferry service, or by helicopter. The ferry service also carries tourists on public access days, so that they can experience the conservation deck, and tour the island.
Aether offers on-site dorms for those who would rather not commute back and forth all week, and for those who are staying on the artificial for an extended period of time for an assignment.
Security
Security is taken very seriously on the island; Lusamine is incredibly strict about it, and intends on keeping it that way.
All employees are assigned key cards, which are required to access all of the rooms and laboratories on the floors one through three.
All of the laboratories and doors on floor three, and in basements 1, 2 and 3 require a fingerprint and retina scan.
Certain high-security areas require two or three employees to use fingerprint or retina scan in order to unlock the door for access.
Higher ranked foundation members and scientists have a chip implanted in their left wrist, which is used as a “master key” to access everything on the Aether Paradise, along with the locks for the Aether House and research stations.
Basements 1, 2 and 3 have safety laser scanners installed that are programmed to scan every room, laboratory and corridor every fifteen minutes. If a persons whose biometrics have not been logged into Aether’s system is picked upon, an alarm goes off, and all doors are locked. Only Aether security guards, or high ranked foundation members, are capable of unlocking the doors in order to remove the intruder.
ALL points of the Aether Paradise have motion sensing cameras and CCTV streaming.
Aether buildings are known for their monochrome coloring and bright fluorescent lights. This is to prevent employees and visitors from finding dark or secluded corners to hide in, and discourages people from attempting to smuggle Aether property. It also makes it easy for visitors to be picked up on by the security cameras; everybody on staff is wearing all white, so somebody who is wearing even the slightest bit of color stands out.
In the case of an emergency, the Aether Paradise is capable of undergoing full lockdown mode. All incoming boats and aircraft are instructed to return to the mainland, and all outgoing forms of transportation are halted.

McArthur’s guilty plea for discreditable conduct stems from a 2016 incident where he was recorded assaulting a teen handcuffed to a hospital bed, for which he plead guilty to a criminal assault charge in 2018. For that, he was sentenced to three years’ probation with a conditional discharge.
McArthur has been on paid leave since 2016. According to public salary disclosures, McArthur received just under $450,000 in salary from the Guelph Police Service between 2019 and 2022.
Also from the article:
McArthur “admitted to losing control and striking a door and punching walls in response to a provocation from his former spouse in 2009.”

George Santos made history when he unexpectedly became the first non-incumbent out gay Republican to be elected to Congress in a "red wave" that swept New York state in the November midterm elections.
And according to a New York Times investigation, he may have a historically large amount of questions to answer about his resume.
The investigation found that Santos, who was elected to represent a Long Island district currently held by Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi, may have made numerous misrepresentations of key aspects of his background.
FIRST, HIS DESCRIPTION OF HIS EMPLOYMENT DOESN'T ADD UP:
• His biography says he's worked at Goldman Sachs, but spokeswoman Abbey Collins told the Times there's no record of his employment at the company.
• He's also said he was a "associate asset manager" at Citigroup, but spokeswoman Danielle Romero-Apsilos said it also couldn't confirm that he worked there, and said that the company sold off its asset management operations in 2005, which is five years before he claims to have graduated college.
• The Times found no IRS record of his a charity he says he owns, Friends of Pets United, and the beneficiary of a 2017 fundraiser by the group told the Times that they'd never received any of the money that was raised.
SECOND, HE'S REPORTEDLY FACED NUMEROUS EVICTIONS, CLAIMED TO BE A LANDLORD HIMSELF, AND MAY NOT LIVE AT HIS CURRENT ADDRESS:
• He was evicted in 2015 from a residence in Whitestone, Queens, after owing $2,250 in unpaid rent, per the Times. The landlord, Maria Tulumba, told the paper he was a "nice guy" and "respectful" tenant.
• He was evicted in 2017 from a residence in Sunnyside, Queens, after owing more than $10,000 in unpaid rent. Santos received a $12,208 fine.
• He claimed to be a landlord in 2021, but did not list any properties in New York on financial disclosure forms from either his 2020 or 2022 campaigns.
• The Times tried to interview him on Sunday at an address where he's registered to vote, but a person there said they weren't familiar with him.
THIRD, HIS HIGHER EDUCATION HISTORY APPEARS TO BE A LIE AS WELL:
• He's said he graduated with a degree in economics and finance from Baruch College, a public 4-year college in New York City, in 2010. But representatives from the school told the Times they had no record of his enrollment, despite searching multiple variations of his name.
• A biography on the National Republican Campaign Committee website says he went to New York University as well, but a spokesman for the university told the Times they had no attendance records that matched his name and birth date.
FOURTH, THERE'S STILL A MYSTERY AS TO WHERE HIS MONEY IN COMING FROM:
• He's reported a $750,000 salary and $1 million from a now-dissolved entity called the "Devolder Organization."
• The firm had been described in numerous ways, including as his "family's firm" that manages $80 million in assets and as a capital introduction consulting company. He did not list any clients.
• He was also the regional director of Harbor City Capital, a Florida-based company, when it was accused of running a more than $17 million Ponzi scheme. He's publicly denied knowledge of the scheme, according to the Times.
FIFTH, HE CLAIMED TO HAVE LOST FOUR EMPLOYEES IN THE 2016 PULSE NIGHTCLUB SHOOTING:
• He made the claim during an interview after his election, but the Times review found that none of the 49 victims of the Orlando shooting appeared to be associated with any of his firms.
Neither Santos nor the office of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy immediately responded to Insider's request for comment.

Historians and Hamilton (or a brief defense of Michael E. Newton)
There is a post out there that's something like "don't believe Michael E. Newton - he's not a historian and he's a finance bro." (I'm not deliberately vagueblogging - I just can't find the post and it's been weeks.) Now I'm not a Newton fan, and last I checked he was promoting an hour long youtube video on Alexander Hamilton's kindness (or some such nonsense), but he's conducted original research that merits review.
My concern with the post was two-fold:
That's just the old ad hominem fallacy;
2. Finance bro? - who do folks think Alexander Hamilton was?
There was a discussion on here about 1-2 years ago about who was/wasn't deserving of the title historian. "Historians" come from a variety of departments - journalism (Ron Chernow, financial journalist), English (Fawn Brodie, famous for biography of Jefferson and introduction of psychobiography), economics (Broadus Mitchell, still the gold standard Alexander Hamilton biographer) and so on. What ultimately matters is if they present their work for scholarly evaluation, and Newton does that. I have issues with some of his interpretations - though most are very limited anyway -but he's put his own or crowd-funded money towards finding and piecing together documents and put it out there for anyone to evaluate, as far as I can see (disclosure - I briefly interacted with him about a specific question about his research and he provided responses). The facts he's presented about Hamilton's early life are either right or wrong. He's also accepted by others wearing the historian hat, among them Richard Brookhiser (as the editor of National Review, maybe he's dubious, but he's certainly gotten awards and funding for history studies) and Stephen F Knott (can't really question his bona fides).
Now the great irony of Newton's discoveries about AHamilton is that they demolish the very argument that finance bros most want to make about the background of the man - that he was self-made, someone who rose up through his own merit, someone whose unfortunate background led to a lifetime of striving for the public good. Newton's AHamilton is a descendent of one of the wealthiest families in St. Croix, his mother - even post-divorce - had middle class wealth, the members of his extended family were the wealthiest people on St. Croix, he became a sort of business manager for an international shipping firm based out of NYC, he's gifted 15x the average salary of an American laborer by a relative, he arrives in the American colonies and goes to live with two of the wealthiest men in the colonies and attends schools that the wealthiest people in the colonies send their own kids to, and continues to receive opportunities through West Indian/American connections. And later, poor guy, his half-brother leaves him over 10x the average salary of an American laborer. This is not someone working their way up from the bottom, engaged in a struggle to overcome hardship and poverty. This is also not someone who is going to be personally insecure about his status. Compared to the average Anglo-American white man of that time period, heck let's even define it as the average Anglo-American middle class white man, Alexander Hamilton led a very privileged early life. But to repeat, that's not what finance bros - or those who love the Hamilton musical - want you to know about Alexander Hamilton, which makes Newton's work pretty interesting.
