Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes! Always. I love getting feedback and engaging with the people who take the time to read my work. 💜

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending? Ooh, it's gotta be this imagine in SPN fandom: "Sam crosses the line." In which he's in love with Dean's girlfriend.

(Sequel to "You are Dean's one exception.")

What the fic you've written with the happiest ending? Well, most of my stories have happy endings. But probably Never Say Goodbye (Dean W. x Reader). It's a soulmate AU, so very rom-com and fluffy, despite all the drama they went through.

Though I could also say the same of the last story in the Midnight Espresso-verse: In Bad Weather.

Do you write crossovers? No, I don't. I've enjoyed reading a few though.

Have you ever received hate on a fic? Yes, unfortunately lol. It's inevitable for as long as I've been writing though.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Oh yes lol. I'm a romantic though, so it's often a mix of fluff, straight up romance, occasionally dashed with angst and/or hurt/comfort.

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge. (I hope not!)

Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope, but I've received solicitations lol.

Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yeah, when I was a teenager just starting out writing, I used to write with one of my best friends growing up. (We're still good friends to this day.)

What's your all-time favorite ship? That's pretty much impossible. 🤣 It depends on the fandom! Nowadays I tend to write for OCs or reader inserts though.

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will? Ooof, nothing recent. But I finally finished And So It Goes, which took me 3 years for some reason. 🙃

Though I do have both a Jason Teague x OC series and a Smallville Clark Kent x OC series outlined that realistically, I probably won't get to. 💔

What are your writing strengths? I've been told I'm good at dialogue and keeping canon characters in character, which is always amazing to hear! I try my best.

What are your writing weaknesses? Action scenes and smut scenes are my biggest writing challenges, though I've been told I do a decent job at them. I know I tend to use adverbs a lot lol (I'm trying to curb that).

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? So I try to minimize use of this, but, I've gotten critiqued (putting it mildly) on this before for two reasons. Admittedly, I've had to revise myself in certain use cases, but also, there are slang words and phrases in certain Spanish cultures that wouldn't make sense to another Hispanic/Latino culture that doesn't use the word/phrase. So sometimes, it's not that it's wrong grammatically, but that it's slang.

What was the first fandom you wrote for? Oh jeezus, probably Chronicles of Narnia fandom when I was like, 10 and brand new to writing. 😂

What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to? Ooh a tough one. I feel like there are so many! I do have a story I had outline years ago now for Steve Rogers/Captain America back in the MCU fandom (which I've written in before). But that fandom is a bit intimidating. 😂

What's your favorite fic you've written? Also really tough for me. I think it's a tie between two series:

Midnight Espresso (Dean W. x Plus-Sized Latina!Reader)

One totally took me by surprise by how much I enjoyed writing the series and the characters (and figuring out how to write Soldier Boy/Ben 😂).

While the other allowed me to be a little more indulgent with myself, writing from my personal experience and my culture.

The responses on both stories have been amazing and incredibly heartwarming. 💗

Peace Be Still

Just over two weeks ago, I was undergoing emergency brain surgery and awoke in hospital lock-down isolation. The world had changed and through the dense fog of chaos, I heard Jesus speak the words once more…Peace Be Still. Hello Facebook friends: We know each other. Most of you know me through our beautifully interwoven lives whether in hometown Cedar Hill, ACU College days, San Angelo, KLST, KRRT or after Herb and I married and began our lives raising Sam and Charlie in San Antonio and Harper. Years of Autism advocacy has brought us together as has social media or through our church family at San Antonio’s MacArthur Park Church of Christ. With all resolve I wanted to share this story of hope.

PREPARATION WHEN I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT First let me backup a bit… Last August my family and I embarked on our trip of a lifetime to the Holy Lands. Led by Dr. Monte Cox, Dean of the College of Bible and Ministry at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, this journey was a 10-day immersion in faith, the Bible chronicling Christs teachings while on Earth. One of our most anticipated places to witness was the Sea of Galilee. It’s where much of Jesus ministry took place. As a child, I would marvel how Jesus calmed the waters amid the vicious storms surrounding the small boat he and his disciples were on as told in Mark 4: 36-41. “Master, the Tempest Is Raging” is an old church hymn, written by Mary Ann Baker and focuses on this story of the Savior. Unbeknownst to me at the time, it would be this passage and hymn that would reach and carry me amid the painful and isolated weeks that lie ahead.

THE ONSET OF THE STORM Aspergers101 was shut down December 31st 2019 and just shortly after, I was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia. Migraines were nothing new to me but the onset of this new diagnosis’s was swift and merciless. Trigeminal Neuralgia is a chronic pain condition that affects the trigeminal or 5th cranial nerve, one of the most widely distributed nerves in the head. Severe facial pain stemming from the brain. Under this diagnosis there is no cure. We were told there are meds that may be tried but with time they will lose effectiveness. The condition affected the entire right side of my head. Told it will gradually worsen and only experimental surgery (not recommended) was on the horizon. Grim diagnosis for sure but we got busy on finding the best solution(s) to remedy. The neurologist offered little more than 3 minutes of his time, medication and follow up in 3 months. As we realized the few options for medication relief proved both ineffective with nerve pain blockage and basic daily cognitive skill function, I had begun to research surgery options on my own. The frequency of pain continued its aggression until it was consistent. As my contact lessened with most people, the conversations with God increased. All I could think was to say, repeatedly, is that I am his. Romans 8 reminded me that not even death could separate us from the love of God and I couldn’t reach high enough at this time. The solution for this storm escaped me, not any research, determination or persistence on my part would fix this…I looked upward as I began to drown.

MASTER THE TEMPEST IS RAGING It was just past midnight March 15th when Herb took me to the hospital. It is important to know that while driving by a closer ER, Herb drove instead to Methodist Stone Oak upon ‘a feeling’. The pain was so intense that the hours/days that followed were blurred with, MRIs, brain/fluid removal, Opioids and various combinations of (and I quote: our arsenal of meds were exhausted) attempting to ease pain. 5 days in, Dr. Christopher Bogaev, a neurosurgeon associated with the Methodist Neurosurgical associates, appeared to Herb and I with the great news I was a candidate for microvascular decompression, the surgery I had read about weeks prior. He would operate in 3 days and believed this would wrap and protect the angry nerve from my brain. Confusion had set in when Herb and our sons, Sam and Charlie were asked to leave the hospital due to the Covid-19. The hospital was on lock-down and I was inside. My family would be unable to return, even for the surgery. Hauntings of intravenous opioids and cups of meds were administered every 3 hours as my body awoke ready for the next administration. Severe head pain continued but I was only semi consciousness at any given time. I could barely move and talking or ‘texting’ was a function I was unable to perform. During the torment of pain, opioids and loss of family contact my resolve was tested. Suddenly I had control over nothing not even my body. The story of Jesus calming the storm reached me during this isolation. I can remember being wheeled downstairs to testing prior to surgery and seeing faces of Gods love in hospital workers. One woman, either of us barely speaking each others language, spoke volumes through our eyes. Sympathetic goodness rolled over me as we exchanged passage of love without ever uttering a word. The technician holding my cross necklace for me during one of the many MRIs, told me of his parents recent trip to the Holy Land and how certainly God was near. My loved ones were forced away from me but no lock-down was to keep away Gods reach…he was indeed close to the brokenhearted. (Psalms 34:18) No surprise I would later find that Herb and Sam and Charlie spent the surgery parked outside the hospital in prayer. It would be days later I would awake with all my senses still operating and the damaged nerve held millimeters apart from causing agony. Jesus was there and had calmed all the turmoil that once had swirled so violently.

THE ELEMENTS SWEETLY REST Just 2 days after surgery I would be sitting up in bed (by 4:30a) ready to show my marked improvement and preparedness for hospital release. By 7a I was released and Herb was notified he could pick me up just outside the hospital just 2 hours later. As I was wheeled downstairs the realization that the world had stopped came into play as the hospital corridors & lobby were still. Though dizzy and weak, the drive home released me from my time capsule and fast forwarded to the world that had halted it’s fast-paced fury to a virus pandemic. I was home. Touch, healing, love and gratitude to be together with my family after not knowing we would see each other again was all present in the healing days ahead. God had guided and delivered us all during this tempest storm. We compared our stories of how so many things could have turned out differently yet how everything aligned and ultimately, how God was Always in control and always is. What a parallel to everyone. Isolated at home with some facing unemployment, sickness and worst of all fear. I wept often as I recovered knowing that the almighty God, the Messiah and creator of all…came for me during a wave of terror. HE was there as he always is...for us all. The overpowering song “Master the Tempest is Raging” will forever be a part of my fabric and will reverberate with the current pandemic the world is facing. I included the lyrics to the song and verses from the Bible that resonated over and over while going through fear, isolation, pain and uncertainty. Does Jesus need to ask, “Why are you still afraid, do you still have no faith?” Peace Be Still In the coming weeks, as the world continues necessary seclusion may the words Peace Be Still bring each of you a balm. A quiet, in the frightening squall and changing current storm as it unfolds uniquely to you and your family. A knowledge that God sees all our perpetrators and will never give us more than we can bear. If it comes close…know he is there.

GOTY 2022

I have several friends who love saying that 2022 was a weird year for games and that no games came out this year, but that's not really true. A wide-range of games downloaded on my wide-range of consoles, from the big huge ones that we all played and talked about to the niche ones that really connected with smaller audiences. Personally for me, after a couple years of unemployment and tough living, 2022 was a year where I had a lot more money to spend on video games than I had time to play them. Of my top 8 list, only two of them are games I "finished."

2022 was also the year that I got a Steam Deck, which made the aging hardware of the Nintendo Switch even more apparent. Still, the Switch managed to get a game in my top 8, while the Steam Deck really allowed me dig into some of my backlog while curled up on the couch. I feel like the PS5 really hit its stride with exclusives this year, while Xbox shined with their varied Game Pass offerings. Anyway, below are my top 8 games of 2022, followed by the usual addendums, corrections, and contradictions.

MY TOP 8 GAMES OF 2022

8.Trombone Champ  - I laughed harder at Trombone Champ than I did any other game this year. Just howling guffaws shaking loose as I frantically clicked the mouse button. It's a rhythm game where you play a trombone. It's hilarious. Highly recommend.

7. Marvel Midnight Suns - This is a late addition as this game only came out in December, and it's a long one that at fifteen hours in I feel like I've barely dug into, but I've already had a good enough time hanging out with my Marvel superhero friends in my spooky Marvel house that it has to go here. Looking forward to really digging into this in January.

6. Vampire Survivors - Vampire Survivors is like $2 or something. All you do is move your little guy around, avoid dumb monsters, and pick up powerups that make you ridiculously strong until the next round of stronger monsters threatens to overwhelm you. It's perfect. Even some of the clones that have chased its success this year are worth checking out. Some of my favorite gaming moments this year were getting incredibly overpowered builds in Vampire Survivors and laying waste to an ever filling room of weird bad guys, only to die at 29 minutes into a run.

5. Marvel Snap -  Marvel Snap is too good. Even though it came out in the second half of the year, I may have spent more time playing it than any other game in 2022. No game lasts more than five minutes, there are loads of possible strategies, every match is different because of card matchups and random locations that severely change the game. Plus, even when I lose I get to level up my cards and make them shinier.

The game is insidious in the way it primes all of the joy in your brain to activate, but it manages to do that without also being insidious about microtransactions. Yes, it has $50 packages that amount to just a couple variants of cards you already have, but all gameplay specific unlocks don't require real money purchases. Season passes are optional and cost $10, and yeah them being monthly sometimes feels a bit much, but I'm playing it so much that I'm happy to throw $10 a month at a it so I have even more numbers that go higher.

4. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - I played all of Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2, and despite enjoying both of them a ton, they both had slow enough starts and sometimes troubling idiosyncrasies that made them difficult to recommend. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is different, it’s an instant recommendation to anyone looking for a complex, interesting JRPG. The characters and story are immediately engaging. Also unlike the previous entries, the side quests are significantly more interesting, giving real reasons to explore the huge world.

Currently I’m only (“only”) 40 hours in, and I’m guessing I’m about halfway through. I’ll be chipping away at it for a large chunk of 2023, and that’s a-ok by me.  “I’M THE GIRL WITH THE GALL!”

3. Immortality - Immortality is the latest from Sam Barlow, modern FMV auteur, and this time he bites off way more than he should be able to chew, but somehow sticks the landing. It’s three movies worth of footage, with weird behind the scenes material to go with it, and all you’ve gotta do is watch it and try and make sense of what you’re seeing. Pretty quickly it gets a little Twin Peaks, but also always stays true to the genres the films within the game live in. It’s a spooky, voyeuristic ride that no film buff should miss. Also, it’s on Xbox game pass and on Netflix on your phone, so just play it.

2. God of War Ragnarok - I picked this up because I was supposed to. It’s the big PS5 release this year and my PS5 needs more games on it. I enjoyed the last one, but found it completely forgettable—Ragnorak is anything but. The writing and storytelling is just top-notch. I think the best way to explain it is that they truly respect every character in the game and give them all a ton of screen time. This does mean that the game balloons in length (I think I put in 45 hours or so), but it had me loving every weird dwarf, giant, and other mystical beast I met.

That game length is also less painful because they keep the mechanics just fresh enough without changing them so you forget out how to play. Playable characters and sidekicks swap in and out regularly in ways that feel natural to the narrative, but also keep you adjusting your playstyle.

It’s a great game and it makes me very excited for whatever that team does next (but it doesn’t have to be another one of these, guys).

1. Elden Ring - Elden Ring is so much. It’s the game that finally made me understand the Souls games. It’s the first game since Breath of the Wild to give me a true sense of exploration and wonder in an open world. I had so many terrifying experiences of stepping into areas, seeing the grossest, scariest thing I’d ever seen, and running away as fast as I could. Then twenty hours later, I’d go back to the same area and lay waste to that silly ugly monster.

I didn’t finish Elden Ring, but I put about sixty hours in, loved it all, and hope to some time eventually be in the mood to return. Even if I never do make it back, those sixty hours set a new bar for open world games for me and reminded me that games can still surprise.

Games I played that didn't make the list because they didn't come out this year:

Code Vein - After playing 60 hours of Elden Ring over two intense months, I needed more souls-like action, but I didn't want it to feel as "important" as Elden Ring.This is how Code Vein became my most played Steam Deck game of the year. I love it's weird vampire anime bullshit. I love that the combat is difficult and souls-like, but I can also just button mash 90% of the time. Definitely recommend it to anyone like me who wants something souls-like but not quite a Souls game.

Fortnite - I'm still playing Fortnite. Sorry. Every new season they add a ton of new stuff and it's a great game for my partner and I to play together. This year they even made the game look a bunch better. You can ride a pig around as Spider-Gwen and shoot a gun at Goku.

Destiny 2 - I played through Witch Queen this year, and it probably could've made my top 10, but then I also kind of burned out on the seasonal stuff a bit and chose to focus on other games. Sometimes I get a bit overwhelmed by all the inventory management, but Destiny 2 still feels better to play than just about any other game. Very excited for this the next big expansion.

Fire Emblem Three Houses - I finally finished this game this year! Fire Emblem still good! Turned out that maybe playing through 3/4s of the game on Classic Hard wasn’t the right thing for me, and in the last 20% I switched to Classic Normal and had a much better time. I’ve got that new one pre-ordered for later in January and I'll probably take three years playing that one too!

Yakuza Like a Dragon - Like a Dragon is still great! I'm still playing it somehow! I'm probably not even halfway through. I still love it.

Games I didn't play (or didn't play enough of) but would like to:

Neon White - Neon White is good! I played two hours and really enjoyed myself and then never went back. See you in 2023, Neon White.

Norco - I played a good amount of Norco and loved it, but fell off when they added a mechanic that felt too complicated at the time, and unfortunately I never went back. Now I have to decide whether to a.) finish it even though I feel like I've forgotten what was happening, b.) start over, or c.) just save it for some time in the future when I can give it a fresh playthrough.

Tunic - I was really enjoying Tunic! But it was also a bit too hard for me and I fell off and never went back. Hope to return at some point.

Need for Speed Unbound - This game came out of nowhere, dropped with no fanfare, and after a decade of unexciting Need for Speed games turns out... good? I’m only like 6 hours in, but the racing is solid, the art-style and soundtrack are captivating, and the story is actually interesting? Best of all, it seems like an open world racing game with a vision, a reason to keep racing, and not just 100s of icons on a map. Excited to keep digging into this one.

Games that I'm sad I didn't like more and might go back and play more/finish, or might just say goodbye to:

Overwatch 2 - Overwatch is still great when it's great, but boy when you're losing does Overwatch feel bad. The new characters and maps are fine, but the season pass progression and unlocks were pretty boring for me, and once I got my fill of More Overwatch I fell off. Haven't even turned it on in season 2 yet.

Horizon Forbidden West - Too many things on map. Want to know what happens in the story, but too many things on map.

Pokemon Legends Acreus and Pokemon Scarlet - Did these... both come out this year? Did I buy and start both of them despite not really getting into a Pokemon game since Pokemon Emerald? Did I enjoy my first 5 hours with both of them a ton and then forget completely about them? Yup.

So yeah, I think 2022 was a pretty good year in games, as I'll continue to chip away at my favorites and the ones I didn't get to. 2023 promises to be an even bigger year with the Zelda Breath of the Wild follow-up, Fire Emblem Engage, Starfield, and Diablo 4 being the games I'm most looking forward to. Beyond the big releases, I'm going to try to spend a little more time playing the games I already know I love, and I hope you will find time to as well. Happy 2023.

Three arrows farm - 2015

Drusilla made her way up the stairwell of the academy as fast as she could. She knew where Ash’s room was most likely situated. There was only one room in the academy that stood isolated from the rest of the living quarters, and it was on the top floor of the school. The room was known to be vacant until now, and a lot of students had pleaded with teachers to be given a room of their own. No wonder Ash’s acquisition of it had sparked disapproval from most students.

Once Drusilla reached the top floor, she walked down the cold and narrow hallway. She would never have desired to live in the most secluded part of the academy, had she been given a choice. Besides, Thais would have protested relentlessly if the matter was discussed. As she approached the door of the only room in the hallway, she paused. She knew it was wrong to enter someone else’s bedroom without permission, having lived the majority of her life with six siblings. But she needed answers.

The stories Julian and Emma had told when they returned from Thule were still fresh in her mind. If Ash was able to enter the mortal world so easily, who else had he brought with him? What purpose did he have in this dimension? Why did he have a sudden thirst to acquire knowledge by attending the academy?

Drusilla had to find out. She thought irrationally of Ty and how he would have loved to join her in the investigation. The idea of her brother encouraged her.

It was time for Drusilla Blackthorn to prove herself.

She turned the door knob and opened the door slowly. It was dark, and the only visible light was the illumination of the moon, emitted from the square glass window at the opposite side of the room. The first thing she noticed was how spacious the room looked compared to her own, although this was not atypical, considering Ash did not have a roommate.

It was a clean room, which was not expected of most teenage boys. Drusilla was sure Sam would be happier sharing space in this room, compared to the room he currently slept in. Ash’s bed was on the right side of the room. While on the left side, where another bed would have been placed, was a piano in its place.

It was well known that Jace Herondale knew how to play the instrument very well. It made Drusilla wonder if Jace of Thule had taught Ash how to play as well. Although, the piano looked newly purchased, almost as if it had not yet been played. The thought of Ash having mastered a musical instrument made Drusilla perplexed, and left her stomach fluttering for a reason she did not know.

Enough of this, Drusilla thought. If she became distracted, she would not have been able to focus on her investigation. She looked for anything that would indicate the reason why Ash had come to the academy, and whether any of his belongings suggested they were not of this world. Perhaps Ash had brought the black volume of the dead with him, Drusilla knew it was left there after the battle outside the Silent City.

She went over to the table beside his bed and searched through his drawers. The first occupied notepads and pens scattered in an untidy manner. The second had a number of steles, some of which were broken in half. It made Drusilla wonder why Ash had kept them. The last one contained an old leather-bound book, with a gold inscription on its spine. It looked old.

Drusilla picked the book up and read the title. It was called, ‘A tale of two cities’ by Charles Dickens.

She opened the first few pages, careful not to damage the already worn book. On the inside of the first page, there was an illegible piece of writing. Drusilla only recognised a few words: ‘With hope at last, Will Herondale,’ although she thought little of it.

Suddenly a piece of folded paper fell out. Finally, she thought. A clue. She placed the book inside the drawer and started unfolding the paper.

A shiver went up her spine as she recognised the illustration on the paper, it was a picture of herself. It was drawn with a familiar hand Drusilla knew too well. Perhaps the work of Thule Julian? No, she thought. Thule Julian had turned endarkened. This was her brother’s work. Her Julian.

Drusilla felt her heart pounding. Ash had kept a drawing of her. What did this mean?

Just as she was about to place the illustration back into the drawer, Drusilla heard footsteps coming towards the bedroom door. She froze and than hastily put the drawing away, and stood up to prepare herself for the unavoidable confrontation.

The door handle turned and opened. Ash was wearing the same clothes he had that morning and Drusilla could see the casual expression on his face falter as he gazed upon her shockingly.

She watched as he stood with his mouth agape and said finally, ‘what are you doing in my room?’

But at the same time he starts to spend a lot more time with you

His mom and friends definitely pick up on this quickly, but for his sake they never tease him in front of you

When you aren’t around though…

“So… what’s the deal with you and the farm girl?”

When you first met Seb, you would have to come to him, only seeing him on the rare occasion that he isn’t holed up in his room

But once he gets a crush on you? That’s over

He leaves his house way more often, taking paths that he knows he’ll run into you on

He also begins to invite you over not only to his house for some Solarian Chronicles, but even to Sam’s place to attend their band practice

Not to mention he sends you at least one meme a day

Sam:

Like Sebastian, Sam definitely becomes more clingy once he develops a crush on you

However, he is a lot more bold about it

He will often invite you to his band practices or to the bar with him and his friends

Whenever he notices you at the saloon on a late night he stops whatever he’s doing to walk you home, making the excuse that he just doesn’t want his friend to get hurt

But everyone knows that he doesn’t walk Abigail or Sebastian home

His mom definitely notices and teases him for it

“That girl has been coming around the house a lot. You two better not be doing anything inappropriate in your room while Vincent is home.”

“Mom!!!”

He’s blushing for ages after that

Shane:

Even when he has a crush on you, Shane is not one to be all head-over-heels for someone

He doesn’t think that you would ever feel the same about him

You’re young and healthy with a bright future ahead of you and he’s a sad guy with a dead end job and an alcohol dependency

Yeah he certainly thinks you’re out of his league

Despite this, he still acts nicer to you than he does most of the other villagers

He’ll start to show you some more of his personality, cracking jokes every once and awhile just to see you smile

One time he actually brings you your favorite gift, shrugging it off when you ask how he knew

Of course there’s the odd day where you don’t come into town and are in the mines all day instead, but he doesn’t get too worried unless you’ve been gone more than a day

At that point he drops by your farm, telling you with no lane excuses that he was worried about you once you open the door

He doesn’t go out of his way to see you most days, since he doesn’t want to come off as desperate

He hasn’t been in a relationship since high school so he really isn’t past that mindset

He makes comments on your outfits or looks often, careful to make sure it doesn’t come off as rude or creepy

Alex would like to act like he doesn’t get butterflies when you flirt back, or when you hug him for just a second too long, but that would be a lie

Another thing is that Alex becomes protective when he’s crushing on you

Someone looks at you wrong? He puffs up and stands right by your side to scare them off
