WELL BABES

Obviously this thing was mainly born following my proclivities - that said, the lore would be this:

Sebastian and Sam are childhood friends, everyone in town knows they are attached by the hip, and in my mind they are bound to grow up and old together - maybe they had some struggles and fall outs in their relationships, especially early on (I already wrote it somewhere, but my main headcanon for them is that at some point, as teenagers, they didn't even speak to each other because the feelings where too complicated, but eventually fell back together like puzzle pieces) but yeah, ultimately they are soulmates and are sooo getting married.

Then, since happiness seems to be my ultimate kink, I thought about them finding success in their work life which is one of the things that SDV is actually lacking for the marriage candidates also because with each other's support, once they get into a serious relationship and move in together, they WOULD be thriving and flourishing all around.

That's why I thought about Seb possibly becoming some big tech guy (hence the Steve Jobs turtle neck) but his passion would still be game developing so he would eventually go back to it, and get some recognition too (finally. Also he's not working from the basement anymore). For Sam the obvious route would be that of a successful musician, but thinking about his more nurturing side (like how he reveals himself in games once you have kids and suddenly he's taking care of everything) I actually pictured him more as someone investing and helping young artists, maybe writing lyrics and music for them, and he would perform only on rare occasions (he would enjoy his jam sessions at Gus' but only if Seb and Abby are joining him).

I think that because of their jobs they would alternate living in Zuzu City, to attend work and social events and meetings, and coming back to Pelican Town seasonally. (Side note: Maru would be living full time in the city being the girl in stem that she is, and her and the guys would always bring home some sick gadgets for Vincent).

Look-wise, the long hair on both of them are once again purely a preference of mine 🗿 I also figured Sebastian would start having a healthier lifestyle so he would be more buff and filled in (he had to start working out seriously or his health would have given up on him after all the hours hunched on his screens) His style would still be mostly all black but less Hot Topic and more Rick Owens, more minimal and cool as he is - but he would keep the gauges.

Sam, in my European mind, is the ultimate American Boy, but like in an 80ies kinda way, therefore as a dilf grown man who works in the music industry I HAD to give him the country outfit, with the golden buckled belt and the (not pictured) boots. Again, my perception of that might be swayed but it seemed like a nice transition from the more chaotic punkish/skater boy style he had when he was younger. Also he kinda looks like Kent but with sweeter, softer expressions, and the beard was just a necessity at this point.

OVERALL I'm way more invested in this that I thought I would be when I first conceived it, and not just because they are hot 🤠

Not sure if anyone's said this, but for a game where evert dateable is canonically bi, I wish there was more MLM and WLW ship art, including "char x farmer". I mean, there are copius amounts of it with Haley, and so much Sambastian that I've gotten sick of it (no offense to shippers, just a personal thing, I get overwhelmed by too much of anything at once). samalex are unintentionally flirty vocally. “i wouldn’t want you to go hungry. i care about you. you should be eating well. we could grab some breakfast. you and me. alone.” “why don’t you come to my next gig..? i’ll save you a special spot. just for you.” which they mean as friends but they just don’t hear the underlying tones.

alex would have a good voice if he wasn’t constantly straining it, unfortunately he loves belting passionately and straining his voice for whatever reason

sam is actually GOOD at singing. he’s also a natural when it comes to anything that’s artistic (painting, sketching, music, etc)

Honestly, my general ideas about sdv marriage candidate ships are both chaotic and a bit boring. On the one hand, I like ships that are sort of considered canon??? I mean Sam/Penny, Haley/Alex, Elliott/Leah, and so on. That said, I also like ideas like Sambastian (Sam/Sebastian), or generally A.S.S. trio (Abigail/Sam/Sebastian), Shane/Harvey, Penny/Alex, or Maru/Penny. Or even ships with marriage candidates and non-marriage candidates (like Elliott/Willy, for example) and two non-marriage candidates (Rasmodius/Marlon or Gil/Marlon, Pierre/Morris, Marnie/Marlon, or Lewis/Marnie if Lewis finally comes to his senses and stops acting like a teenager). I'm open to any and all discussions!

About the Expanded mod, besides Victor/Sophia, I also like to think of Sophia/Scarlett. Also I like (canon too???) Olivia/Magnus (Rasmodius), though I feel like it would just be a fleeting romance, nothing serious (maybe even something sad). Not sure about Susan and Andy, I honestly don't know, no ideas have popped into my head. About Claire... I like the idea of spiking her with Juliet from East Scarp, so like shipping candidates from different mods. That's the only option though, I didn't think for other candidates from different mods.

Stepping back closer to Castle Village, I can't help but mention Isaance (Isaac/Lance), one of my all time favourite ships. What was both a fun idea and crackship has become a cool idea with huge potential! Camilla with.... uhhh... almost all of the marriage candidates? Considering the witch herself admitted at one of the secret events that she had "multiple partners at the same time." Does it make sense to call it shipping, though, since she changes partners like a glove (at least that's the impression I got from her) and there's no one in particular in mind? I also like Isaac/Alesia. It's hard to say about Jadu, as well as all the Castle Village residents, since we don't have much information about them except for Lance. Plus, Flash plan to add more candidates in future Castle Village mod, so we'll see 👀

Ridgeside Village... Canonical ship options, at least for some candidates. I really like the feature of the Ridgeside Village mod, that I can choose for some couples to go the platonic route and then they will have events that hint that their relationship goes much further than friendship. Adds more dynamics to the game, while our Farmer is courting someone else, Paula and Anton, for example, sort of confess their love for each other. Of these canon couples, I like Faye/Bryle, I think it's a funny couple trying to hide their feelings under the constant nagging of each other. Blair/Sean also seems like a pretty good couple to me. Canonically considered Zayne/Irene, but I've been thinking about Zayne/Daia for some reason (I don't know why, I just think they're neat). Or Daia/Corine. Again, I'm open to discussion on all ideas :D

East Scarp doesn't have many residents unless you count the extra NPCs (some of which I couldn't download as there was no update for 1.6), I like Mateo/Aideen (also like Ridgeside Village, I can choose platonic paths for them). No thoughts on Eli and Dylan. If i remember correctly, Eli canonically is gay and Dylan is asexual, so slightly less options, And for others like Jacob and the rest I didn't think much for them to be honest, because with so many characters you just can't keep up. I can barely remember everyone's lore, quotes and events of all the characters already. Considering I've also downloaded both Sunberry Village and Downtown Zuzu, and that's more characters and more lore.

THE RULES:

1) What qualifies as a rarepair? This will vary from fandom to fandom, but for the purpose of this event, we are saying that a rarepair is one which has 100 or less fics in the relationship tag on AO3. Please check the ship tag on AO3 or ask if you aren't sure.

2) What characters are eligible? All of the following: All original base game characters. All original characters from modded content within the Stardew Valley universe, eg SVE, Ridgeside Village, East Scarp etc.

3) Are there any characters that are not included? These would be the following: - All OCs. You cannot include OCs as a third in a rarepair poly, either. X Reader fics count as OCs for the purpose of this challenge. All crossover characters from other fandoms, even if a crossover mod was made for it, such as BG3 characters.

As OCs are original in nature, the use of an OC instantly makes anything a rarepair. When tagging on AO3, we would normally use Character/Farmer anyway, which would immediately take the character out of the rarepair category.

If you really need to put your OC in the story somewhere, say for continuity of worldbuilding in a series or whatever, you can, but they cannot be part of the main pairing. So, they can play matchmaker, they can provide a friendly ear, or they can just be hovering in the background etc.

4) Are polys welcome? Yes, of all sizes. All members of the poly must have equal weight and importance to the story. For example, if you write the ASS trio, it can't be Sambastian with Abigail hovering in the back handing out mints.

5) Will there be a collection? Yes, this will be announced nearer the time.

6) What if there's no relationship tag on AO3? Then congratulations, you are first in the tag, and this would count as a rarepair, as long as it fits the character criteria mentioned above.

6) What about established canon couples? Even if they have less than 100 fics in the tag, they wouldn't count for the purpose of this challenge as they are already an established pair. You can, however, add characters to an established relationship and make it a throuple/poly; for example, Caroline/Pierre/Morris.

7) My ship would be a rarepair because every story I find with them, they're just in the background. What do I do in this instance? First off, this sucks, and I'm sorry. The only way that I could know whether or not they have their own storyline or are just mentioned in passing in one chapter is by going through and reading each fic in the tag, and I am not doing that. Until AO3 make a way to differentiate between the main ship and the background ship, they all go in the same stat, and would not count as a rarepair.

8) Do I have to have something for every day? No, you can pick and chose what prompts you do.

9) Is there a word count limit? Nope, your entries can be as long or as short as you wish!

10) Is art welcome? Hell yes!

11) Can I use background characters? Yes, definitely. Travelling Cart Lady, Mona, Clara, Welwick… all welcome.

12) Platonic pairings? Platonic love is love, and is valid and welcome.

13) Can I write the same pairing all week? Yup, go for it.

14) Should I post one-shots or chapters? whichever you prefer. All stories will go in the collection nearer the time.

15) What do I use when checking to see if my pairing is a rarepair? Just the ship tag, eg Alex/Elliott or Elliott/Alex, whichever way AO3 has it. No other filters, just the ship.

16) Do I have to participate? No, this is supposed to be fun and and not mandatory. Opt in and out as you please.

Look, they had a history alright? You can’t convince me otherwise.

Yeah, I know that TECHNICALLY 🤓☝️ Sebastian is more emo than goth AND I DID PUT EMO AT FIRST but it just flows better as jock and goth rather than jock and emo.

This playlist is based on their fics that I’ve read so yeah there are many songs alluding to them having sex first, feelings and *gag* love later. So yeah you can listen to this while reading the fourth frenemies with benefits story of them.

Also also, let’s be real, they won’t have a healthy relationship from the get-go. They both are extremely prideful and with their past with each other (that nobody really knows about so feel free to think whatever but in their canon dialogue they are definitely … opinionated) they may be a little (or point blank) toxic, despite the fact they’re more alike than they want to admit. Which is not a bad thing, I love drama.

So yeah, this is different from my Sambastian playlist since they’re not close in canon and there are little to none dialogues supporting them so I’m basing it off of their fics in AO3 and also my own interpretation of the ship. Which is why the in the moodboard, there are no pics of their canon interests (sports, bikes, etc.) because I made it more of their fanon relationship.

TL;DR this playlist is about sex, a not-so-healthy relationship with it and with each other, remorse and forgiveness of past actions, and fearing yet longing for actually falling for the inevitable.
