hate to tell some people this but fyi. once tumblr added alt text, a lot of old images got bugged to have the ID show (despite op not putting it there) as just saying "image". this isn't op trying to be a dick and screw with people, it is a known and common issue. you can tell it's a bug and not intentional because ive seen it happen on blogs that haven't posted in a decade, long before alt text was added. getting mad and sending anon hate about blogs "adding alt text that just says 'image' to mess with people" isn't something you should be doing. it is a bug. not something done by malicious actors. stop being aggro towards users who found out their old stuff had this happen, they aren't the one doing it.

ongoing random topics of interests that i would love to write an essay about but probably won't touch for a long while, if ever, because of various reasons i won't disclose here but

far be it for me to support queerbait in any form without, idk, being a class traitor, but old school queerbait, terrible as it was, was also weirdly inclusive so that they get the queerbaiting right lmao

parasocial relationships with famous people (any famous person, they don't even have to be anyone of real skill or note) have rotted brains and critical thinking and, most notably, critical analysis of fictional characters. interchanging the interaction with one for the other is what i imagine is the reason why people push for fictional characters' independence and autonomy because real people's independence and autonomy are threatened all the time within parasocial relationships so this concept of vigilant protection of these people are being conflated with the needless protection of fictional characters

media literacy is not necessarily dead despite my grumbling, but i also know that being literate and fluent in media and communications at this point also relies on being information literate, being digitally literate, and being values literate and that's a lot and few of those things are being supported, especially in conjunction with each other

I understand why Mav can never slow down. I understand it on such a personal level. I went around 800 km/hr (553 mph) yesterday in the L-39 (for reference you break the sound barrier at 1,234 km/hr (767 mph), which is Mach 1) and I can literally only think about what paths I can take to go even faster. The thrill is insane and I knew I'd be hooked but to actually feel it and experience the G forces and weightlessness doing manoeuvres like that. It is such a unique and all encompassing feeling. I want to feel that again, so desperately. My dreams and goals just got bigger and more ambitious!

i know im usually the #1 Homura Defender but sayaka slander irks me so much. "she died over some dumb crush"? how can you misunderstand a character so catastrophically...

okay, so, more coherent rewrite of that 5am ramble post i just made.

a biggg point of contention in any "is homura evil?" or "does homura hate her friends?" type argument is the last scene in rebellion where homura threatens sayaka, is rude to her friends, and kind of implies she could destroy the universe if she wanted to. we're not going to touch on those, really, but id like to introduce a point ive actually never seen mentioned:

the whole time homura is puffing herself up, issuing vague ominous threats to sayaka, being kind of rude, etc, her witch's familiars are throwing tomatoes at her.

(no, it isn't blood or anything in the second gif — you can confirm it via video link here).

throwing tomatoes at people, usually actors or performers, is usually a sign that the person in question is giving a bad performance or, in other words, not performing their role well or convincingly. it's also not just a cartoon trope, but was an actual thing (yes, i know that source is reddit, but it has the actual info and cited info there).

the whole time homura is trying to act like she hates her friends, or heckling sayaka, or implying she doesn't care about the world, her familiars are busy throwing tomatoes at her to show she is lying or performing/pretending, and isn't even all that convincing.

(and, like @ultimadoka pointed out, this also continues while sayaka is calling homura the devil, which could also be a point?)

this is nothing new but compliance to unnecessarily censored words in apps drive me nuts. just say sex. just say suicide. just say murder. just say sexual assault. name it. it probably stemmed from a meme but seeing sesbian lex actually drives me up the wall. as an information professional, it makes no sense to me to not use the words in order to contextualize it with the larger conversation surrounding that very topic and also to properly categorize it where it needs to be. jsut say porn. just say sex. just say the words. the algorithm is going to punish you regardless. it just doesn't make sense to me myself or i that people go into these otherwise great discussion points and say things like unalive. it actually feels like a net zero gain to me regardless of how good the points are

it's either people are afraid to assert themselves for being afraid to come across mean or people are just actually really mean on the internet and i don't like that it makes me sad
