As a kid we had so much fun with this keyboard. It had a built-in speaker which meant you could play back any sound out loud, moments after your sampled it. And you could sample any sound at any moment, because it also had a built-in mic. Endless fun.
We lived in Toronto at the time (this was 1985) but I think we must have been visiting our old home in New Jersey one summer, and brought the SK-1 with me. I remember one evening we sampled our own voice making a growl sound, (that was pretty scary all by itself) but then played it back on the low octave keys, which changed the pitch of the sound so it sounded like some kind of massive monster. We then stood outside the open windows of friends and their families on a hot summer evening, and terrified them with monster sounds. This was New Jersey afterall, with the legend (that still scares some people) of the Jersey Devil, who lurks in the New Jersey Pine Barren forests.
Later I'll tell another story about the Jersey Devil, which is why, by the way, their hockey team is called the Devils

Told my brother I was planning to go out after dinner to listen for and record frog calls and he said "why does your evening docket sound like a Bob's Burger's bit"

Joe Sample – Rainbow Seeker
A sublime solo set from the great Joe Sample – a set recorded right at a time when his work with The Crusaders was breaking very big, and Joe was becoming one of the hottest fusion keyboardists of the 70s! This set gives Sample a nicely different focus than The Crusaders – more keyboards in the lead, with a great mix of acoustic piano and electric modes – over these really well-crafted arrangements that feature key Crusaders members, but also allow for great work from David D Walker on guitar, Fred Jackson on tenor, and some other great west coast studio talents too. The vibe is great – almost a Steely Dan jazz album, and we mean that in the best way possible – on titles that include “Rainbow Seeker”, “Fly With The Wings Of Love”, “In All My Wildest Dreams”, and the classic “There Are Many Stops Along The Way”.

Not to be a snob, but it annoys me when bad songs sample better ones.

All my keeb stuff is here!!!! 🤩 I'm gonna be building it today!
I've decided to build it as intended at first, without mods, and use it like that for a few days. Then I'll lube and film the switches, add foam to the case, etc, so I can actually notice the difference the mods make lol.
