hope this isn't inconvenient but what lgbt in nyc podcasts do you listen to? i feel like the podcasts i listen to always involve people from LA
Ok wow that is v true. Frankly i think i heard so much abt monkeypox partially from guests on podcasts bc literally the biggest nyc comedy scene podcasters i listened to are now la transplants.(my go to was Sydnee washington but she moved to la i think? N her podcast w Marie fausten is Spotify exclusive) (Also i said podcasts but also ... insta stories lol but thats a mouthful) But I found some, didn't do research though :
Inside the Closet: Matteo Lane iirc hangs his hat in nyc i think Emma willmann is in la now
Las culturistas is one that feels like it doesn't need recommendation but hey as long as bowen on snl hell probably stay in nyc
Food for Thot : one of them must still live in NYC im sure (two moved to la though yrtugg ). Jo i think does. N the ones who don't are bicoastal i think
Like a Virgin : is it antisemitism to think that rose dommu lives in nyc? (Im p sure she does? I feel like fran moved to la? Both were recently in the same place though )
Secure the gag: an absolute shot in the dark but i think nathan pearson lives in nyc?
Straighto Lab: an even bigger shot in the dark whoops
(also totally not inconvenient i find it funny to go thru my podcast subscribed to list n this is making me realizing all of the nyc podcasts i listen to are hosted by str8s? I'll update this as more info comes to me from either their instas or new podcast episodes)

Podfic Recs!
One of my favorite things about fanfic is the existence of podfics. That said, I'm excited to share a few of my favorites with you! I tried to go for a wide range of fandoms so there should be something for everyone.
Works Alone read by kbirb pods (kbirb) Batman, (gen), 20 mins, Crack, Batfam When trying to pull the team together, Bruce’s ideas are dismissed, because he 'works alone'. He goes home to his kids to pout about it.
Straight On Till Morning read by reena_jenkins DC Legends of Tomorrow, (Sara Lance/Mick Rory/Leonard Snart), 2-2.5 hrs, AU-Canon Divergence Left alone in the Refuge, Mick and Sara decide they're going to be proactive about their fate. They end up becoming time pirates. Because of course they do.
The Haunting of Harrison Wells read by luvtheheaven (VioletEmerald) The Flash, (gen), 2-2.5 hrs, AU-No Powers, AU-Ghost Story Harrison Wells died in 1958. Almost sixty years later, Barry Allen meets a ghost in STAR Labs.
Not a Damsel in Distress read by nickelmountain Supernatural, (gen), 10-20 min, Pre-Canon, Case Fic Mary smiles and shrugs when her dad looks at her. Mermaids. She hates water-creatures. She hates killing things on family holidays. “Mary can come with me,” David says grandly. or, Mary and a cousin go hunting. The cousin is less than helpful.
With a Conquering Air read by AceOfTigers The Witcher, (Geralt/Jaskier), 3-3.5 hrs, Accidental Warlord AU, Slow Burn Jaskier arrives at Kaer Morhen knowing his family gave him up without a second thought, and absolutely sure that the dreaded Warlord of the North will value him even less than his own blood did. But the White Wolf and his pack are not what Jaskier expected...and if he's unreasonably lucky, Kaer Morhen might become far more of a home than Lettenhove ever was.
both have sharp teeth read by Shmaylor Daredevil, (gen), 1.5-2 hrs, Angst, Black Widow!Karen "And there are stories about wolves and girls. Girls in red. All alone in the woods. About to get eaten up. Wolves and girls." -Black Widow, Nathan Edmondson She is one of 28. The story of the girl who would be Karen Page, through Russian winters and New York streets.
If They Haven't Learned Your Name read by quietnight MCU, (Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes), 24 hrs, Buck Barnes World Revenge Tour, Humor Steve gets out of the hospital in two days, but just barely. “I’m fine,” he tells Sam, Nurse Eunjung and the phalanx of doctors assigned to make sure Captain America didn’t bleed out and die and get bad PR all over their nice clean hospital.“I have an advanced healing factor. It’s fine. See? I’m standing.” “That is not standing,” Sam tells him. “You’re bending the IV stand,” Nurse Eunjung adds pointedly. “Let go and sit down, they don’t grow on trees.” aka Steve and Bucky's Global Honeymoon Revenge World Tour.

Recommends: THE STACKS POD - Traci asks a question that absolutely blows my mind, to the point of not remembering what the answer was. “Who is your audience and are those the people reading your book?“ Is the best question I have ever heard in my life. The Stacks is my fave Wednesday and occasional Friday bonus epi listen… it’s pinned to the TOP of my podcast list so it always plays first. Give Traci a listen and join us in the Stacks Pack.
Ep. 314 Being Chesty with Andrew Boryga
Traci asked me why I love this question. My response- Authors (who aren't white) have the added hurdle of WANTING to write to a siloed audience but publishing wanting to be more broad and vast (read: white readers) which makes it hard to reach your target audience bc the marketing approach is different. Asking this q especially to a debut author gives us insight into whether they see what efforts their agent/publisher marketing dept are making toward their books, and is that at the expense of the people you're trying to reach? It's also about some of the conversations authors are having about book covers. Slapping those cute illustrated covers on a steamy romance or a lit fiction book works against us because cover branding is a promise to the reader. If I write a steamy romance but my cover looks like a funny romcom, am I reaching the audience that wants to read steamy romance? And if I hit romcom and get 2 star reviews for all the sex and profanity bc they didn't expect that, is it hurting me?
My second rec ties into my first and it was kismet that it played right after that episode. I listen to a long list of writing, author, publishing pods and one of my faves is the Wish I'd Known Then podcast. Authors Jami Albright and Sara Rosett interview self-published authors about how they found success as well as lessons they've learned. This week’s episode is on author branding and is worth a listen or two. I’m definitely going to run it back.
How to Find Your Author Brand - Wish I'd Known Then For Writers
Both episodes echo conversations that writers have been having about cover, about voice, about standing out but blending in. Both episodes are great and I highly recommend them!
WRITING UPDATE
My last reported word count was 63,523 words. Today I’m’ at 70,559 words. And I am not done. I’ll definitely have to cut some back, but I’m not worried about it yet. YET. Listen to today’s episode and stress out with me about it.

That Mother's Day gift
(Alone) - Scott is known for 3 positions: fetal, ascending angel, and the sideways tilt. Many times when the crew is sent to wake him up and throw back the covers they find him halfway on the floor, seemingly dragging the pillow he’s clutching with him. Or to find it look as if he was just excepted into the golden gates as his arms are held up and his legs straight as boards.
(Family) - Sara: Being twins they often slept in the same bed and shared a room at younger ages, so they knew what the other did in sleep, knew how to fold or where their legs were supposed to go. If you look at them in dim lighting you’d think they were one person, or a amalgamation if limbs so complex you didn’t know which foot was who’s. Even when just sitting together they would slip into a human knot that they both found comfortable, their mother often saying they seemed ‘like puppies piling on one another.’ - Ellen: Scott was Ellen’s son, her special boy, her “Star Rider”. While he stopped napping with her as he grew, there were times where he simply leaned over and let his head rest in her lap, her fingers playing in his hair until he drifted and lulled him to bed with her voice.
(Crew) - Cora: Cora is a soldier, she’s trained with Asari, she was preening to take Alec’s place. She also found herself taking Sara’s place as Scott’s older sibling, though noticeably colder to start. When Scott first walked into the botany lab, settled against her legs while she read her Asari texts on a crate, and dozed, she was a bit uncomfortable, not sure how to move or if to at all. In time she came to see the need for Scott’s resting with her, how sometimes he slept against her leg, or his head on her knee, or even just sprawled out while her feet rested on his side. He never spoke in discomfort and she let it be. - Liam: He knew the feeling, the weight on Scott’s shoulder, he could basically see it. So when Scott slipped in the rec-room one late evening after an ambush on Eos, when he crawled into Liam’s cross-legged lap and leaned against his bare chest before dropping out. He said nothing, just watched for awhile before readjusting and going back to watching his show. - Peebee: She didn’t like people in her business, so she never really questioned Scott on his when he quietly walked into her room, hopped into the escape pod, turned off the gravity, and slept. She would watch for a bit or peer in to make sure he was alright if he was there for awhile, but she never disturbed him. She would occasionally join him, tying herself to him so they could flout together and not bump one another. - Vetra: Raising Sid and being a smugglee she could see the signs of fatigue, when someone was close to snapping. So one day she called Scott in, pulled him into the corner by her desk, and deposited him in a nest she’d made for him, blankets and pillows galore as she would work and he would sleep. Sometimes when he couldn’t simply go to sleep she’d tell him stories of her smuggling adventures, or make up things just to entertain him, knowing her sub-vocals would lull him into a peaceful rest. - Drack: He’s a father to dozens, a matriarch of blood and war, like Vetra he knew the signs; he saw what little sleep Scott was getting. So one night when Scott walked into his private quarters to find Drack sitting on his bed, patting the space next to him Scott wordlessly accepted the invitation. Soon finding himself surrounded by the feeling and presence of Krogan, he settled in and curled against Drack who in turn curled against him. Later Drack noted the dull feeling of hands gripping him in terror, followed by Scott’s unsteady breathes and gave a steady rumble, reminding the human of his presence. Relaxing again when Scott evened out and found comfort. - Jaal: Angara sense emotion, so Jaal sensed Scott, never questioned anything the human did, or anything he asked. Never questioned when he walked in the armory, sat on Jaal’s thigh, slipped his arms around Jaal’s neck and softly snored. He simply continued to work on his weaponry and experiments, finding the situation not unlike his carrying of cousins in their sleep. - Lexi: She doesn’t know when she started allowing Scott to sleep in the medbay but she doesn’t really want to change it either. She knows he needs someone there, she’s been the one evaluating his psyche. At first when she found Scott on an examination table with the emergency blanket over him she quietly woke him and sent him to bed. But as it continued she found herself not caring or not noticing, she found herself bringing blankets and keeping pillows in a basket beside her desk. And she didn’t see the need in changing their ways. - Suvi: It first happened while they were drinking her tea, Scott had finished his cup and was dozing against her shoulder. She giggled and gently set him down on the couch, leaving him in a blanket and pillow to resume her station. As it became frequent she stopped moving, going and twinning their fingers together as he slept and she drank, quietly looking out the view screen and thinking to herself 'I’ve found my family again.’ - Kallo: He didn’t like it, thought it hindered his movements at first, when Suvi giggled and he thought he’d spilt something only to find the Pathfinder leaning against his chair, sound asleep with his head on his knees. He gave him a nudge with the foot and mentioned maybe the Pathfinder would prefer his bed to Kallo’s chair-back. But it continued, Scott moving from behind Kallo’s chair to the nook where his feet went and snoozing like a cat. Kallo gave Suvi exasperated looks but she merely shrugged and said to get comfortable in a sing-song tone.
(Lover) - Gil: Scott usually woke up either being spooned by Gil or facing him, a hand dipping in to hold Scott’s briefed behind. His own hands tangling in Gil’s hair while his face rested in the crook of his neck. They looked like every happy couple he saw in old rom-com movies. But he didn’t mind, he enjoyed the warmth he got from it, the security, the ability to let his guard down. He may not have it forever, but he knew he’d enjoy it while he could.

1 So this is the logan podcast anon, if you're up for giving recs then I guess what I'm looking for is a fictional podcasts, not documentary or liveplay and preferably without any kind of omniscient narrator. Ie all dialogue is in character. I generally prefer genre fiction like sci-fi but that's optional, and mostly prefer mystery or thriller
2 something with more than 1 actor or host, I’ve tried a couple that were just one guy talking into a mic and it was very difficult to concentrate. Tbh I started looking into podcasts after listening to a couple tie in audio dramas to the dumb scifi franchise I follow. And please nothing by the mcelroys I’ve nothing against them I just don’t think they’re funny or interesting and when I ask for reccs they’re usually all I get
—–
The idea of only being recd mcelroys sounds like my own personal hell. Like the clips ive heard r funny but not enough to subject myself to these white men. so my condelsences anon. I feel u on the single narrator/liveplay podcasts. So the ones im reccing arent either. Im gonna come back to this post to add some clarifications but i know if i just sent this post to drafts itd end up there forever.these r all audio dramas/fiction podcasts
Ones tht fit ur clarifications (bolded means i like it a lot)
Adventures in new america, Aftershocks, Alba Salix/axe and crown, archive 81, Big Data, blackwood, brimstone valley mall, bubble, calling darkness, caravan, congeria, the dark tome*, darkest night, deadly manners, eos 10, freed, girl in space, greater boston, in her burning, lethal lit, life after/the message, limetown, mabel ,star tripper, station to station, steal the stars (this might b my favorite podcast of all time, v embaressing to say bc its from a network), the after disaster podcast, the blood crow diaries, the bright sessions, the infinite now,the once and future nerd, the penumbra podcast, strange case of starship iris, the two princes, the van, unwell, video palace, blackout, carrier, fuck humans, limetown, point mystic, what’s the frequency, the white vault
Anthologies: Monsters out the closet, nightlight, nosleep, scp archives, the grey rooms, the long hallway, the truth, uncanny county,
Maybe (some of these fit ur criteria but the quality might not b wht ur used to, or they dont fit your criteria but theyre rlly well made or i listened to them so long ago so idk of i can recommend fully ill specify in a bit): a Scottish podcast, ars parodica, audio diary of a superhero, bear and banjo, bronzeville, ethan sees all,fan wars, gay future, harlem queen, homecoming,it makes a sound, moonface, mythos, oakpodcast, palimpsest, paralyzed, passanger lost, podcast meander, radio drama revival, return home, sandra, sight unseen, small town horror, station blue*,still lives, the box, the cleansed, the deep vault, the deca tapes, orbiting human circus, under pressure, violet beach, inkwyrm, lake clarity, modern audio drama, the orphans, unplaced, earthbreak
Ok, finally got a chance to write some stuff under the readmore. It’s very long but I know that when ppl rec podcasts to me, I like knowing a lot and also this is for my own reference as well.
Adventures in new america- Summary: Set a few years in the future, Adventures in New America follows the escapades of two mismatched African-New-American best friends — fat, lonely curmudgeon IA and lesbian sneak-thief Simon Carr — who take on a series of increasingly high-stakes heists to get quick cash to pay for IA’s medical treatment while attempting to survive the wilds of New New York City… and a secret cabal of Tetchy Terrorist Vampire Zombies from outer space. Intrigued? Good! Frequently, there will be musical numbers — and radical reflections on our dangerous, beautiful, heart-pounding world. This is from the night vales network and so the production quality is really good. It’s fantasy but with a scifi mindset if that makes any sense, fantasy elements exist alongside scifi elements. and it’s got a very comedic bend to it. The acting is all pretty good, and I enjoy it. Critical of capitalism and power structures in general.
Alba Salix/axe and crown: Fantasy but Shrek/Galavant fantasy rather than LOTR fantasy, I didn’t like s1 of Alba Salix that much but I liked the latest season and I really enjoyed every part of axe and crown. Axe and crown is very funny and it stars a curmegeonly gay troll cavern owner, his niece and his new much younger landlord. The landlord wants to change things up so the cavern can make money and be better competetion against the hip new place across the street. Alba Salix is set in the same world and is another magical workplace comedy starring the kingdom physician, a witch, and her assistants a fuck up ex-monk and a clumsy fairy. I really enjoy the second season a lot, its a lot of low stakes fun comedy. The looseygooseyness of a dnd liveplay but with structure and in very bit sized pieces. (It’s rare for an episode to be longer than twenty five minutes and the longest is 33. )
archive 81-  Summary:Archive 81 is a found footage horror podcast about ritual, stories, and sound. It’s kinda hard to explain because the second season is so different from the first, but explaining the second really spoils a lot of the fun. It begins with a man named Mark trying to figure out where his friend Dan has disappeared to after he took a job going through audio archives for a city, Dan left behind a ton of audio files for Mark to sift through though. I love the characters a TON, i adore the sound design it has especially how it makes certain things sound otherworldly, id say it’s more fantasy but it has a lot of scifi elements as well, like a really good marriage of the two.  I haven’t listened to the first season in forever though, so your mileage may vary on that but I found myself very invested.  I found it easy to keep up with who was who, even when I forgot, the story gives you nudges to remember who they are if you forgot. It can be confusing to follow sometimes but if you keep on things fall into place pretty easily.
brimstone valley mall- summary:The year is 1999. Lurking somewhere between Hot Topic and the food court, five misfit demons from Hell kill time inciting sin in a suburban shopping mall.

Big Data- Summary:What if someone stole the internet? This comedy caper takes 100% real concepts, like the seven keys to the internet, cyber police, relay calls, photocopier black boxes, 419 scams, and more, and turn it into an anthology of nerdy crime stories tied together by a global plan to end the internet. it’s a series of heists ranging from hijacking top secret military satellites, to stealing a dude’s pants. Features 73 actors from all over the world, including Paul F. Tompkins, Felicia Day, Jemaine Clement, Samm Levine, Amy Stoch and more! I loved this podcast when it came out, enough that I listened to it all at once on my janky phone that didn’t let me fast forward or rewind for certain podcasts (this one included) so it involved often having to  listen to the episodes a lot of times, because also it restarted the episodes if you started listening to another episode of another episode. But that was 2016 so I can’t bold it in good conscious. I loved the audio design and all of the actors are really good and from other podcasts. Kind of a whos who of audio fiction in 2016 also a bunch of actors who have like…. gotten season regular roles in tv and stuff. It’s finished and a very neat and tidy in story structure, gets it all done in 9 episodes (7 hours) in a way thats very professional. Also I’m pretty sure I remember all of the episodes having more than one person talking and no omniscent narrator but I can’t remeber for sure if thats the case for all of them. It’s a heist movie in podcast form, focusing on each member of the heist team.
blackwood- summary:Five years ago, Molly Weaver, Bryan Anderson, and Nathan Howell started a podcast focused on the local legend of a monster called The Blackwood Bugman. Quickly, the investigation grows out of their control, as they discover that, not only are the legends seemingly true, many people in Blackwood have turned up dead or disappeared without a trace. Worse, there may be a reason why no one has ever uncovered the truth before. Someone is watching them, willing to do whatever it takes to keep the secret. Their recordings have finally been released. I enjoyed this one a lot, its another finished podcast and I wasn’t sure if you wanted something so short form so it isn’t bolded, it’s from Skylark so it’s really professional sounding, the story is good and the acting is good. But also, my memories of it are Very Vague bc i listened in like a day while doing a laundry in 2018. It’s got six episodes all less than thirty minutes, but I remeber it being really interesting from a horror perspective.  It’s got a good mystery element as well, and reminds me of season one of the anthology show Channel 0.
Aftershocks: Summary: It all started when Riley was institutionalized after suffering a psychotic episode, after being treated she was moved to Amber Ridge. There she meets Ryan and Eli, also patients at Amber Ridge. Together, the three of them stumble upon the dark secrets of the institution where they reside.  The thing that stops this from being bolded despite me loving it is me not being sure if it’ll ever continue? I love the story though and the way that the mystery unfolds without any cheap ‘turns out this person wasnt actually crazy what an Injustice!!!!! stuck with the crazies when actually this person is Speshul!!!!’. It’s supernatural but also very fascinating.

Ok this isn't even a jokey post I think tht good omens shares a lot of narrative DNA with a podcast called once and future nerd esp wrt narratives n who gets to decide what's bad n what's good. But bc they have at least one black writer there (I think it's ....two now) they also real life racism along w fantasy racism and ethics.
There's a gruff very repressed gay knight, a pan queen to be who just went from rogue queen thief to going to going on a journey to reclaim her rightful place, there's a princess and a handmaiden who are in love.
There's a two main black characters, a woman and a teen boy, and the both get to be fully fleshed out characters. It's also had one of the best storylines I've ever encountered about sexual abuse and trauma ?
Idk it's just really well written and well acted and it delivers in ways that people complained abt good omens for ? Though Ngl the begining is a bit slow going, it's worth it to keep chugging along

If you like Pose I'd suggest listening to Marsha's Plate Podcast episodes on it ? They do episodes on each of season 2s episodes. For those episode it's the usual host Diamond (a black trans woman ) and a cis gay black man
And Id suggest listening to their other episodes too! The hosts are two women and a man, all trans, all black. The man and one of the women are in a relationship. They cover topics with a lot of nuance and lived experience.
In the latest Pose based episode Diamond talked about her own experiences both with Silicone Ladies and even a couple of times she Was the silicone lady.
