“Every single fucking thing I say is wrong,” he murmurs into the phone. A glance back inside reveals that his daughter isn’t paying the least bit of attention.

“Oh good,” Galadriel says cheerfully. “So it’s not just me.”

A dry laugh escapes. “Unfortunately not.”

“Don’t take it to heart, Hal,” she says in a reassuring tone. “Celebrian’s holding onto a lot of anger right now, and she doesn’t know how to work through it.”

He furrows his brow, leaning on the railing. “She’s just a kid. What could she possibly have to be angry about?”

Galadriel stumbles from the boathouse, sorrow speared deep into her heart.

She has wounded him greatly, her friend. The hurt in Elrond's eyes as he bid her leave ran deep. But it pains her equally so that he should hold her closest truth in his gentlest of hands, and find her lacking. Like Nenya on her centre finger her heart weighs heavy, bearing the twin loss of a beloved friendship and of a— her—

Halbrand.

Simply Halbrand.

Lost to her forever, for he was never hers.

Only the great foe’s. His servant.

She hisses and wipes angrily at her tears as she passes the tree line. Why will this torment not leave her? Her chest is cavernous, cut and opened as it has been ever since Halbrand seemed to change before her very eyes. As his visage grew eternal. His laughing eyes cruel.

A sob forces itself from her.

Elrond has forsaken her, but really, she does not blame him. She asked for his help, but he has been wounded too many times to offer her his grace now. He acted in her interests, believing her unwell, and she has repaid him thus. She loathes that she has added to his sorrow.

The snap of heather and whisper of leaf that normally comfort her so grate like a sanding stone. She thumbs her ring in frantic brushes as she flees ever deeper into the forest. Returning to her escort in this state would cause concern. Talk.

Nothing has felt quite right among the elves since she returned from Eregion, troubled and regretful, and without the Man quickly and mercilessly rumoured to be her lover. For which other mortal Man would she ride day and night for the elven healers to save?

No, she will let herself flee.

This fresh devastation shall be kept private.

Hand on fallen bough she falls to the woodland floor, folding in two over her trembling knees. Her breaths rip themselves from her.

It is justifiable, Elrond’s reaction. Abhorrent, that she should feel something… intimate, for the dark lor— for—

She should be abhorred. She should abhor herself. And she does.

But it tears her very soul apart.

She lets out a throated cry into her cloak.

A whisper over her silver ring, warmth against chill—

A soft pressure as his lips meet Nenya— the power inside her shudders—

‘Galadriel.’

Her jagged breath catches on the feel of his lips around her name like lamb’s wool.

It is wrong, their bond. As wrong as the existence of orcs. Bound from the skeins of their fëa in a moment of madness, of deceit.

But it exists. Across distance, through the unseen world. And Elrond does not know, cannot see, what she saw in their time together. Will not ever see. If he were to, might he know a quart of her pain.

Lol why are people getting mad at you for telling the truth?

Saurondriel was intentionally written with romantic undertones, Adariel was not. Now, chemistry is a different matter altogether because it is unpredictable. Sam and Morfydd do have it which was evident in that one second shot of their's. This kind of chemistry wasn't present when Joseph Mawle played Adar though he is a great actor too. Sometimes, things just happen and we go with the flow. It's as simple as that.

So far, Galadriel hasn't shown any attraction to Adar and vice versa. Rather, there is a valid argument to be made about Adar being attracted to Sauron but that's a topic for another day.

Anyway, Adariel is a fun ship to play with and it's great the actors are having a blast with it. It's not that deep. But, on the show, the only one,besides Sauron, with whom Galadriel will have a romantic connection is Celeborn whenever he makes his entry.

Exactly. I don't understand why this person insists ? As I say, you can completely ship Adariel while still recognizing their canonical reality, namely that they are not romantic (and the fact that the actors are in favor of shipping does not change this reality). Which is precisely what I do in addition ! I didn't feel any chemistry between these characters in season 1, it was only due to the change of actor in season 2 that I did. With him, there is an undeniable chemistry between the two characters and it offers great potential for fun. But writing-wise, there is absolutely nothing that brings anything romantic between these two. That's all. And it doesn't matter ! That doesn't stop them from being shipped together ! But the real canonical romance of the show is with Sauron for Galadriel (and Celeborn later probably when he returns).

some plot points have been consistently mentioned from multiple sources but galadriel/sauron duel is usually absent. based on more recent details i've read, i think that's because there's nothing worth spoiling. imagine the easiest safest most obvious scenario, that's what's happening. and it's not the predictability that pisses me off the most, but one specific aspect i find to be a deal-breaker if true.

i originally expected it to go down this way, but i got distracted by 'cosmic connection' nonsense and obvious pandering (total whiplash from post season one interviews, which politely deemed me an idiot).

but if i consider season one again, what was actually happening with galadriel? if you ignore all the tOUcH ThE daRkNEsS mumbo jumbo and focus not on what's being said, but what's being shown.

galadriel's temptation to darkness is mostly superficial. she's obsessed with avenging her brother's murder - practically noble if you squint. she made some faulty assumptions to further her (pretty admirable) goals - she can hardly be blamed for not predicting just-some-guy-halbrand disguise. the sum of her moral agonies amounts to 'my biggest weakness is that i do too much unpaid overtime because i care too much about the company.'

they haven't really shown proof she has this intense deep connection with halbrand or sauron, even if they keep saying she does. her pride was injured so she's frightened about being vulnerable to him, but they haven't identified the underlying kinship they claim exists. and if these leaks are true, that's because there never was one.

she wasn't drawn to him because of a shared ambition for power over others. in fact when he reveals himself, his desire to rule is what makes her certain she's not interested. what made halbrand think she might ever want to be a queen in the first place? nothing, they just wanted him to reference that speech. she was never earnestly flirting with darkness, it was just following her around the grocery store.

in retrospect it could never have been otherwise, because the showrunners said they didn't believe it when one of their writers insisted that people would ship haladriel/saurondriel. it must be a fluke of some discordant decision making.

you know that millisecond shot of halbrand in armor from galadriel's vision? i had a suspicion it was a reshoot based on how it looked. now i'm 99% sure they decided to film it after the fact and hastily edited it in for baiting purposes.

anyways can't wait till october to be let down for good so i can go back to knowing absolutely nothing about l/otr

(yes in the end i am to blame because the only thing from the show i really gaf about was the Most Unholy and Reviled Made Up Ship on earth. congrats to the 'c/eleborn is a cuck' crowd though, enjoy your hate watching i guess)

Written for an anonymous tumblr prompt: Sauron/Galadriel set during Ar-Pharazôn’s rule of Númenor when Sauron holds the position of the High Priest of Melkor. Galadriel, captured in the middle of a war, has been imprisoned and handed over to him as a sacrifice to be made in the Temple of the High Priest, but Sauron has other plans. From Akallabêth to the founding of Gondor, unlikely allies are forged.

My five favourite fics I’ve written…

1. The Blacksmith - my epic Halbrand/Sauron x Reader (and Galadriel - LONG LIVE THE POWER POLYCULE) story that is to this day my longest fic ever. 102k! I’m so damn proud of it and am still in disbelief I even wrote it! Set during the events of The Rings of Power Season One and beyond, it’s a tale of love and destiny and how the two intertwine, for good and for evil.

2. Your Blood, Your Power - first time ever writing a modern AU (I used to avoid them and now that is NOT the case). Haladriel/Saurondriel Vampire AU that sees Gal as a huntress, tangled in lust (and love? 😜) with her evil vampire nemesis Hal. People have told me it reminds them of Buffy and True Blood and I’m just floored by that!!

3. I Felt It Too - a one shot that I’ve been asked to continue (I promise one day I will!). Haladriel/Saurondriel, basically what if they weren’t interrupted during that scene on the log before Orodruin erupted. 😏

4. Two Rings - two short companion pieces about Saurondriel, set during the Third Age. Their rings of power can’t help but remind them of each other and what they lost, what they could’ve had.

5. I’m sorry but I’m cheating and picking two because I CANNOT decide between them:

Shake Like the Bough of a Willow Tree - Human!Halbrand what if tale about Orodruin never erupting. From Hal’s POV (and I think I told someone recently I hadn’t written his POV before when duh of course I have). Haladriel one shot, inspired by the song Movement by Hozier.

And… Barred - Haladriel one shot, another what if, set during their brief time imprisoned together in Númenor. Basically a PWP 😂

My Saurondriel / Haladriel word count is hitting astronomical levels after taking a break from writing fanfiction for three years.

So far, I have 19 works total, clocking in at 279,988 words in just five months. That's 2 unfinished novels with a current 167,260 word count, 5 novellas at 71,990 word count, and 12 one-shots at 40,738 word count.

Eventually, I want my TROP fanfiction to overcome my total works and word count in comparison to my ASOIAF fics. Which means I have to write 7 more works and enough words to beat a 757,727 wc, which leaves me with 477,739 more words. That is my personal challenge to myself.

As terrifying as that sounds. But if I can do almost 300k in five months, I'm on a roll~

An unexpected journey.

So I asked e/on’s twitter: Okay Silm question: Sauron has forged the One Ring and then he fucks off to Númenor to fuck them up, is successful at the fuckery, has his corporeal body destroyed in the flood and flits back to Middle Earth as a disembodied spirit. Uh, did he just leave the One Ring in Mordor during this time???

And then I was like: Me, the biggest One Ring stan: was it lonely for its master??? Was it all sad and pretty and not worn and sitting in a drawer? Why does the One Ring get to spend the majority of its sentient life away from daddy??? Why doesn’t daddy love me :(

A mutual was noting that both scenarios (Sauron taking the ring to Númenor vs. leaving the ring in Mordor) are unsatisfactory.

And then another mutual dropped this wonderful moment of John Reuben Reuel Tolkien, the biggest overthinker of all time, saying “okay okay okay don’t overthink this, you nerds”:

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes, I try to always respond, but then I often don’t succeed at that. I like to say “thank you” when I can and I love getting comments so it feels nice to say thanks. But if I ever fail to reply to comments please know how much I appreciate them and how happy it makes me that anyone else enjoys what I write! It’s so fun to share. 

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? It doesn’t have its ending yet but probably The Bargain. It’s … a weird story that’s headed to weird places. That symbiote snippet I posted a while back? Yeah, that's where The Bargain gets these idiots.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Ooh, I’ll pick a completed one and say The Law Is Reason (Free From Passion).  

Do you get hate on fics? I haven’t yet, but I have been appalled at the disgusting harassment members of my fandom have experienced on AO3 and elsewhere. It’s really sad and gross. The amount of abuse my fellow Haladriel/Saurondriel writers have endured is absolutely abhorrent and wrong.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yeah, I think most of my fics include smut. I have written an Aronwyn/Haladriel foursome, one of if not the first Bronwyndriel-without-the-guys fics on AO3, multiple rounds of Haladriel virginity loss, random gratuitous smut, and Omegaverse smut. 

Do you write crossovers? If so, what's the craziest one you've written? Nope! 

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of, but I’ve definitely seen it happen to varying degrees, and it’s another one of those things that makes me shake my fist at the clouds about the internet. 

Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! Such an honor … although I only wish I could read the translator’s work in their language, which alas, I definitely cannot. But ALSO, I have a fic that's being podficced and I literally cried with joy the first time I listened to the first chapter.

Have you ever co-written a fic before? No, I haven’t! I have done loads of brainstorming and “yes-and”-ing with writing pals though and that’s so fun and creatively rewarding.  

What's your all time favourite ship? It’s fucking Sauron and Galadriel, guys. It just is. I can’t. I wasn’t built to withstand TROP Season 1 without becoming permanently damaged and fully unhinged for this ship of doom. 

What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? Errrr … yeah, I do, and it annoys me because I want to read the story. It’s a Drarry AU I started probably 12 years ago featuring Amnesia!Harry and Psychiatrist!Draco. 

What are your writing strengths? Feelings. Porn with feelings. Banter.

What are your writing weaknesses? Action. Plot. Really need to figure out how to plot, and then, you know, do it. I prefer to vibe and chill with the characters, which is why I have a bunch of vibes-y one-shots and then some really long WIPs that have some serious question marks left on their outlines.  

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? When it’s incorporated smoothly, it can be really nice, but I don’t do it much, because I am not fluent in any of the languages my characters speak. Parf Edhellen is my bestie.

First fandom you wrote for? Uhhh it may have been some accidental semi-RPF back in the day in a composition book while I was in junior high. First online-published fandom? Harry Potter, like every other millennial of a certain age.  

Favourite fic you've ever written? Whaaaat no, how do I choose? I love them all in different ways. My favorite non-TROP fic: Drarry Forever. It's so cute. I loved writing it and I love reading it. My favorite TROP canon AU: The Chain. It's very much my exercise in "writing what I think TROP should have done instead" and there are parts that always give me chills. My favorite modern AU: Just What I Needed. It's the most personal story I have going and it's so much fun to write!

Ten Year Fic Favourites

As I mentioned in previous posts, last week marked the ten year anniversary of me posting fic online so as a way to celebrate, I thought I’d put together a little list of my favourite pieces that I’ve written over that time.

2013 - Heart (Jaime Lannister/Brienne of Tarth, Rated G, 7 Chapters, Fairytale AU)

Only a true champion and an act of love can bring back one lost to the snow and ice.

My very first challenge fic, this was written based around Hans Christian Anderson's The Snow Queen (and I think was posted around the same time Frozen came out - and after the multiple times I’d read the original, by the time I saw that film, I was highly disappointed in it)

2014/2015 - From Winter to Spring (Series, Modern AU)

Rush Hour Crush - (Dacey Mormont/Robb Stark, Rated T, One Shot)

Returning to work after Christmas may bring the same rush hour problems for Dacey but it also proves to be a little more interesting than normal due to the red headed man she quite literally runs into.

Sugar Plum - (Sansa Stark/Margaery Tyrell, Rated T, One Shot)

Sansa has jitters before performing in The Nutcracker in front of one of her idols, Olenna Redwyne-Tyrell. Luckily Margaery is there to make things better.

The first fics I posted that weren’t for Jaime/Brienne, both are just very fluffy and sweet. The first is a meet-cute, the second more of an established realtionship.

2016 - 33 (Jaime Lannister/Brienne of Tarth, Rated T, One Shot)

A Westerosi Battlestar Galactica AU mashup. One of my all time favourite things that I’ve ever written.

2017 - Found in Forbidden Nights (Jaime Lannister/Brienne of Tarth/Cersei Lannister, Rated E, One Shot, Canon Divergence)

And my other all time favourite thing I’ve written, which feels very strange to say given that when I wrote this the GoT fandom was plagued by shipping wars and a threesome with these characters was almost unheard of. I feel very proud that I challenged myself with this fic and came out the other side a better writer.

2019 - Carry on My Wayward Son (Jaime Lannister/Brienne of Tarth, Rated T, One Shot, Modern AU)

The Jaime and Brienne hunt monsters in the Supernatural universe fic no one asked for but I really wanted to write anyway 🤣

2020 - All Veth’s Fault (Caleb Widogast/Jester Lavorre, Rated G, One Shot, Modern AU)

My first, and so far only, step into Critical Role fanfiction, this is a Caleb/Jester meet cute at a modern day music festival. It came after a long period of writer’s block and was something that came together very quickly.

2021/2022 - El Tango De Rose (Rose Tico/Armitage Hux, Rated G, One Shot, Modern AU)

Written slowly during my pandemic writers block but not posted for a long time (since I’d psyched myself out of posting at that time), this is a Dancing with the Stars/Strictly Come Dancing AU where Hux is partnered with Rose and has to learn to dance the Tango.

2022 - Poison and Wine (Galadriel/Sauron, Rated T, Part One of Exiles)

My first Haladriel/Saurondriel fic written for this prompt by Scriberated - So… *awkward silence* who’s going to write the fic where shit goes to shit and in desperation Galadriel agrees to marry Sauron to save what’s left of middle earth? This was honestly meant to be my one and only fic for this pairing but clearly I was only deluding myself as I’ve written so much more since!

2023 - The Decurion’s Wife (Galadriel/Halbrand, Rated E, WIP, Roman Era AU. Part of the Time and Time Again Series with my amazing friend @somebirdortheother)

And this brings me right up to date as I’m currently working on chapter 4 of this Roman Era AU. This is the one fic I think I’ve done the most research for and it has been an absolute delight to learn about so many things about Roman Era Britain and the lives of soldiers and civilians up on Hadrian’s Wall.

The likelihood is if I’m still writing in another ten years I’ll have found other ship(s) to explore (or who knows, maybe I’ll have actually written a novel!) but for now this is what I have. And through all the inspiration and writers block, all the tears and laughter, I really couldn’t have kept going without all the love and support that each fandom I’ve dipped a toe into has given me. I know writers say this a lot, but for anyone who’s ever felt weird in leaving a comment on anyone’s fic - please don’t! Even two or three words can mean so much. And that kudos email makes me smile every time I see it. It’s a little thing but it means a lot. I love you guys and I think after ten years, I can confidently say - I AM a writer 😊😊😊😊
