Potatoes in pizza??? Built in French fry?? Holy shit you're a genius.
I went to college in the midwest. let me tell you. potatoes sliced in thin rounds like pepperoni, with red onions and maybe bacon bits if that's your style? incredible. potatoes in big thick chunks scattered over the pizza? lovely. I feel like I prefer potatoes with white sauce but they do famously go well with tomato based sauces also. I haven't actually tried fries on pizza, I wonder how the baking would affect their perfect outside crispness and soft interior...but I bet you could do it and I bet it would be fucking good
I also played water polo in college so I would eat an entire potato pizza by myself because I was burning so many calories and I can just eat carbs on carbs on carbs. I can't eat quite so many carbs anymore because it's hard to exercise regularly when you're working full time and also cooking for the household but I still fucking love potatoes on pizza

Fried egg anon, I am also holding your hand <33 We could become beautiful breakfast pizza together... (in a totally normal way) (also breakfast pizza is a thing it has biscuit crust, gravy as the sauce and then like cheese and egg and sausage on it it's so amazing)
ANYWAY PLUMADOT I HOPE THAT BECOMES USEFUL INFORMATION TO YOU ONE DAY. I, like another ask said, saw your art and was like "holy shit that's so soft and squishy and OMG THERE'S MORE BEAUTIFUL ART ON THE REST OF THEIR BLOG" and then I thought "wait, this also seems to be a really cool little internet person. And they say things that can be melancholy in a relatable way, and also things that are wonderful and wise and make my heart happy. You don't find that online very often, if ever..."
Then I followed you and then you made the DND AU WHICH IS AWESOME and you have cultivated such a sweet little community! I think so anyway. I like being a little ant-cat!
I apologize to be cheesy or gushy, but I think you spread light through your wise, kind words and your beautiful art. So thank you plumadot :)
-love anon 🍕
(whatttttt that actually sounds incredible somehow gjfdkgjkdfg)

For the domestic hc asks: 10, 15, 20 for mariocest?
Anon I mwah mwah mwah mwah mwah Love you thankyou SO much for the ask
Asks from Here
Tumblr media
10. What do they do when the other is away?
Keep busy mostly. Luigi does a lot of house work when Mario's off on adventures, and Mario takes any odd job he can get ahold of when Luigi travels.
Luigi handles his alone time a lot better than Mario. Mario gets a lot more fidgety when left to his own devices, anxious and depressed all on his own. If he can't find something to work on or do to be helpful he tends to just. Sleep a lot. Order pizza and sleep in.
He doesn't like it when Luigi's away.
15. What do they do when their partner is sick?
I think the Mario Bros both have stupid strong immune systems. The kinda guys who've only been "can't leave the house" levels of sick twice in their lives.
If Luigi's sick, Mario joins him in a lock down, only leaving the house to grab any prescription Luigi might need. He orders in Pizza and sets himself and Luigi up on the couch with blankets and tissues and whatever else he might need. He won't leave his brother's side for more then 5 minutes at a time.
If Mario's sick, Luigi has to physically fight him for the rights to take care of him. Mario does not take sick days. Luigi spends a lot of Mario's sick day just fighting him to lay down, take his medicine, stay still, just relax Bro. The easiest part of the process is getting him to eat at least. No stomach bug could keep Mario from a homemade Luigi meal.
Most likely though they'd be sick at the same time and need someone else to take care of them both. Keeping a Sick Mario from taking care of Sick Luigi would be a job all on it's own.
20. What is the first thing they say/do in the morning?
Mario is not a morning person.
Luigi is though. Loves to wake up in the morning. Loves to wake Mario up with a soft kiss and a hot mug of coffee. Loves to grab a shower right after waking up.
Mario in return, after lazing in bed with his mug, makes himself and Luigi breakfast. Something sweet like waffles with enough syrup to drown an elephant for Luigi, and something lighter like a banana sandwich for himself. Unless he has nothing to do that day, then he's making some breakfast meat. Sausage and Country Ham and Biscuits and Gravy.

What food do y’all have in good ol’ ‘Mercia?
all of it
honestly though it depends on where you are. America is a big immigrant country, with people from all over the world bringing their authentic food with them. if you're in a big city with a big variety of people (Chicago, NYC, LA, etc), you can pretty much find ANY kind of cuisine possible. If youre touring around Chicago and suddenly think "MAN i could really go for some moi moi rn..." you're in luck! you can easily find a nigerian restaurant to meet your needs no problemo!
now if you're in a small, podunk one stoplight town, variety is a lot harder to find. You WILL almost always have Mexican food as an option though. Good mexican food too. made by actual mexicans. i've been to a lot of mexican restaurants here in America on account of it is my favorite and I've never encountered one owned or operated by non mexicans. other than like... fast food like taco bell and such. white people mexican restaurants don't last long because they have to compete with authentic deliciousness and that's just not possible (obviously this is just my personal experience and i have not been to EVERY town in america so i'm sure there are some exceptions)
Different parts of the country have different popular foods. In coastal states you'll find a lot of seafood, naturally. Maine is rollin in lobster (joke about lobster rolls), and you'll find several different types of BBQ, from Texas to Kansas City to Memphis to a backyard near you 🫵. Southern Soul Food is one of my faves, what with the jambalaya and the gumbo and the corn bread and mac and cheese and so on and so forth, deliciously 🤤 (i swear if i ever make it to New Orleans one of these days, i'm not going home without gaining at least 50lbs)
We have a big pizza culture here and you can find different pizza types all over the country. There's some debate about which pizza is the BEST pizza, mainly with Chicago deep dish and NYC style in a neverending battle of butting heads. (personally i'm just happy to get any pizza so i can't say who is better)
Then there's the stuff like Philly Cheese steak, the Reuben, pies (so many pies, but namely apple and pumpkin are the big ones), New England Clam Chowder, buckeyes, cheese curds, tex-mex, etc.
Diners are kinda the backbone of American eating, if you ask me, because you're destined to find diners everywhere. they're comforting, they're familiar, they have big menus, and they're within budget. Diners usually serve breakfast all day too, so you can swing in late in the evening (or even in the middle of the night) and order a big plate of chicken and waffles and a warm slice of apple pie à la mode any damn time you want!
I hear non americans are always baffled by biscuits and gravy, because it definitely doesn't LOOK appetizing but it's SO good. country gravy with a spicy sausage on fresh, flaky biscuits? Yall i'm gettin hungry just thinking about it. that was the meal i ate, hungover, after my 21st birthday, and i didn't regret a single bite mmMMm
i also hear that non americans don't eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches but those are a big part of American culture, especially when you're a kid. aint nothin hit harder at lunchtime than takin a big ol bite of a gooey pb&j and chasin it with ice cold milk
Thanksgiving dinners are also iconically American food culture. gettin 20 of your family members together in one house, cookin a big ass turkey and serving it with a plethora of homestyle sides like stuffing, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, yams, mac and cheese, buttERNUT SQUASH, ACORN SQUASH, PUMPKIN PIE OH MAN OH MY i think i need to eat something before i gnaw through my arm
there's great native food too! frybread and succotash and what not. corn is a big thing for the indigenous people here and they popularized a lot of uses for it. I unfortunately haven't had a lot of it so i can't really speak on what's great and all, but if you just look up Native American food, you will see corn's influence lol
and OF COURSE we got the hamburgers and hot dogs. i know that fast food joints like mcdonalds have spread everywhere these days like a blight on the earth, but they're like... gas station burgers in comparison to the good stuff you can get. same with hotdogs. like i know that you can buy hotdogs from the store in a lot of places (for some reason in jars of liquid in the UK, i learned recently, which is..... fun) but they're not the same as getting a delicious hotdog with the works at a baseball game, you know? it's not the SAME. there's so much variety with what you can do with burgers and hotdogs! and Americans love to grill. it's pretty normal for households to have a grill they bust out every summer for backyard BBQs and cookouts.
anyway, i can't really tell you more about specific foods only in america because i genuinely don't know which foods here haven't either been brought over from somewhere else or have breached containment and gone off to other countries. i sometimes see restaurants in other countries have a "USA style" food and it seems to almost always be the most comically disgusting thing i've ever seen. (like pizza with fries and hot dogs as toppings lmaoooo)(ngl tho, i'd try it)
if anybody has some iconic American food to mention, feel free to do so! 👀

Hothouse flowers
Liz, Copper, and I traveled to Illinois this Labor Day weekend to visit family and celebrate her aunt’s 90th birthday. This is only the second time we have traveled to visit family since the pandemic began in March of 2020. According to Maps, our closest relatives live 737 miles (1186 km) from us, so we usually stay in hotels on our drive and at our destinations. When we were younger and without dogs (BC - before canines) we would just drive straight through.
Because Liz and I are both elderly and at high-risk for COVID complications, we have done everything possible to avoid catching the virus in the last 30 months. We are fully-vaccinated, double-boosted, and plan on getting the new vaccine this week. I telecommute full time, we avoid crowds, never dine out, never shop in-person, and always wear masks when in public. It probably seems extreme, but we reallly don’t want to get sick or have to deal with long-COVID. We already have enough health problems.
Unlike our previous trip to visit family last November, we seemed to be the only people taking precautions for COVID. I saw a total of ten people wearing a mask as we traveled through seven states. Maybe everyone has already had the virus, but I think they are just tired of the pandemic. Nobody gave us a hard time, even in the four Trump-loving states.
For the last two and a half years we have been eating healthy meals at home with green vegetables, no red meat, whole-grains, low-fat, and low-salt. On this trip, we ate foods we love, but are not used to eating - Sicilian style pizza, Chinese take-out, pork barbecue, potato salad, egg salad, macaroni salad, breakfast sausage and gravy. It all tasted good, but we didn’t feel that great the next day.
I am still not ready to go back to a normal life. I don’t know if I ever will.
Maybe, in a year.

Re: your tags about biscuits and gravy - just cos I really don't understand the hype for them (sorry)
I've tried it (in Alaska, we had biscuits, gravy and like some sausage burgers for breakfast cos we had a stopover there before we landed in Guam) and it was still gross 😅 the biscuits tasted sweet like cake and the gravy like mushroom soup... (Picture below taken at like 5am in anchorage, Alaska at some hotel we stayed in)
Tumblr media
We ate out every night in various restaurants (it was a business trip) and everything was sweet??? Even the pizza base and alllll of the bread. (And the portions were enough for 2 whole meals) Nothing was particularly tasty, I don't think there was one thing i was compelled to think "omg this is amazing"
I'd much rather eat beans on toast (which isn't meant to be like mega flavoursome, it's just a staple and it's cheap)
This was a bit more ranty than I intended 😬😂
LOLOL oh dear... well i’ve never been to Alaska, but if you get someone from the South to make you red eye gravy or a good creamy sausage gravy, it’s divine. I personally only use enough sugar in pizza crust to make the bread rise (one teaspoon of sugar for two 14″ pizzas... gotta feed the yeast...), but I have had “sweet” tasting pizza and bread and just... no thanks. A lot of cheap bread is way too sweet for me. So I’m with you there. Proper sausage gravy is more salty and sausage-y than sweet. But it sounds like you had a less than ideal experience, and for that i am sorry.

"put “top 5” anything in my ask and i will answer ok go"
Also foods and/or recipes
My second-most all-consuming passion! I spend a lot of time developing my own recipes, either from scratch or by improving old ones that I find.
Again, it no particular order...
Sheet pancakes: Basically a giant oven-baked pancake with swirls of jam/preserves. Shown here is 4-berry and apple butter, but you can use anything. It's a low-spoons breakfast for weekends when we have a little extra time. Bonus, it also freezes and reheats very well.
Tumblr media
Fruity rice crispy treats (a.k.a. Shut-up Rice Krispies): This idea was given to me by my beloved @crackinglamb because I was tired of cake for my birthday. She used to do it with cheerios, but the special part is dried apricots, cranberries, blueberries, and cherries. Everything this Angel loves in one dessert. 😋
Tumblr media
Sausage pinwheels: Another low-spoons breakfast/anytime meal that also freezes well and is very portable. I first came up with these when I was working the midnight-8am shift. I had very little time to stop for food, so a ziploc baggie of these in my pocket kept me going.
Tumblr media
Porcupine meatballs: This one comes from my SO, and I joke this is why I agreed to marry him. Ground beef mixed with rice-a-roni and then cooked in the gravy. Very meat-and-potatoes kind of meal that sticks to your ribs. One of my favorite things to eat during cold months. (Presentation needs a little work.)
Tumblr media
Lamb's super-awesome, most delicious pizza in the whole wide world!: My bestie makes the best pizza I've ever had. It's a labor of love, so it's for special occasions, but she's had decades to perfect the technique. It's wonderful!
Tumblr media
Honorable mention, because I don't have photos of either: Chicken pesto orzo and spinach bacon frittata. Two more low-spoons meals I developed that's easy on the stomach. CPO doesn't keep quite as well because the lemon juice will break the cream if you're not careful, but the frittata is one of those make-once-eat-for-the-week dishes.
Thanks again for the ask! I enjoyed this one. 🌼
