rfolgreicher Einsatz für den Schutz der Meeresbewohner: @seasheperd verzeichnet großen Rückgang illegalen Fischfangs im Golf von Kalifornien Sea Sheperd ist eine Umweltorganisation, die sich für den Schutz von Meerestieren einsetzt. Ihre Kampagne „Operation Milagro  V“ zielt darauf ab, den illegalen Fischfang von Totoaba-Fischen im Golf von Kalifornien zu bekämpfen, da dieser dazu führt, dass auch der vom Aussterben bedrohte Vaquita (Golftümmler) in den Netzen gefangen wird. Sea Sheperd patrouilliert mit Schiffen und Drohnen in der Region, um illegalen Fischern auf die Spur zu kommen. Sie setzen auch Akustikdetektoren ein, um den Aufenthaltsort der Goldtümmler zu ermitteln und sie vor den Fischernetzen zu warnen. Bisher hat die „Operation Milagro V“ dazu beigetragen, mehr als 3500 Fischernetze aus dem Golf von Kalifornien zu entfernen und mehr als 100 illegale Fischer festzunehmen. Die Organisation arbeitet seit 2015 auch eng mit der mexikanischen Regierung und anderen NGO’s zusammen, um langfristige Lösungen zur Rettung der Golftümmler und anderer Meeresbewohner zu finden.
